Not bad for a first go! The blade thickness for swords starts at 3/16 of an inch. The bit in the handle is called the tang. Yours is a full-tang construction. The blade should also be somewhat broader. Make sure you oil every piece of iron on that thing or you will wind up with a pile of rust. Keep it up and you'll get there.
Thanks man, I got ambitious with this, with it being all large and big, but I'm gonna focus on something smaller and more manageable so I can hammer out the finer details!
I'll give you an a for effort, but you really need to start off with simple knives until you get the hang of it. Also rebar isn't a good steel for blades as the carbon content can vary wildly. If rebar is all you have to work with I would cut a piece off and heat treat it to see if it will harden before you spend all that time making it. I don't know what tools you have but you should definitely get a belt sander if you don't already have one. You could make the blade look a lot better by cleaning up the edges and flattening it. A 2×72 is what I use but they can be a little pricey for a good one, a cheaper option is a 1×30 from harbor freight, it will work ok if you buy some decent belts ( the belts harbor freight sells are shit) it will just take a lot longer than a 2×72.
Start with leaves, hooks and small knives. Mild steel for the leaves and hooks and some leaf spring for knive. Learn how to focus on hammer control. As you progress you'll be able to gradually learn the nuances of bladesmithing.
Reminds me of the book dragonrank master. A samurai goes to Scandinavia and trains a Vietnam soldier who traveled time. He makes fun of his samurai sword. So he gets him a sword from a drunken Smith. That looks to have been forged with rocks haha
I commend you for trying but this is not something i would give to a friend. put it on display in your shop and use it as a way to look back and see how far youve come from that.
stop making blades dont even think about it make leaves and j hooks get your hammer technique down first make Several 100 forge intricate shapes and twist first learn the movement of steel then move forward

@@gamecarnival365 you shoulda seen my first couple knives lol but i am finishing up a mini xiphos sword right now i needa do a full size one
The metal that the handle pins into is the tang if that helps, and it looks pretty dope!
This is sick! It looks like it'd do poison damage!
Really good for a first sword man.
@@Bobastus thanks, there's more to come too!

Its a pretty cool thing making your own sword. Good first try. Youll only get better with time. Good effort 👍🔪🗡️⚔️🇺🇲
I think it's a cool first attempt, very anime.

thats very nice,i like the finish but satin would be better,it would be better to be a bit wider and thicker blade

Try it on tatami dawg
i thought it was a Dacian Falx from the thumbnail
I think I unknowingly made somewhat of a flax because I wanted to exaggerate the feel of a katana for my friend, a fun coincidence!
hey brudda I would suggest a lil less curve, better metal, shorter handle, and I would glue it but its a katana.
Your getting there.
You're*, dumbass.
looks more like a Shamshir
If you reversed the side on which the edge is on, it's almost an exact copy of a Falx!
If I get the chance, I'll make a smaller, slightly straighter falx, thanks for telling me!
