The history presented in this video and everything about making a foil, epée, or sabre is completely wrong. The foil evolved from the epée which evolved from the small sword which is an very loosely an evolution of a rapier which is really a blade that has no prior precident. The sabre evolved from the military sabre which evolved from the scottish broad sword (a contemporary to the small sword, and was not in fact a wode bladed medieval weapon, but got its name as it was broader than the slim small sword). Modern Olympic blades (not sticks) are either drop forged, cut, or pressed, a blacksmith does not make the blades. Foils and epées will only have a pommel if they have a French grip, the vast majority of foils and epées will have a pistol grip. Only Sabres always have a pommel
