  • Installing an Exergy Fuel metering valve into a 2015 chevy 2500hd duramax diesel LML. This valve will keep the metal in the low side fuel system only. If the cp4 fails only the injection pump , fuel filter , low side fuel lines flushed and tank need to be cleaned.

    Just wanted to say thanks for the Help ! Just installed my Exergy onto my 15 LML. Felt like i was doing heart sugery with trying not to have even a spec of dirt into the Pump during instal. All went well there was a few very small pieces of metal on my old screen but my truck has 183k and it runs great so far. I have been running the Hot shot fuel lubracisity additive.

      Tottaly agree , the Duramax’s are definitely the worst to work on compared to ram and ford. I believe the cab is supposed to be lifted to remove the egr assembly (doesn’t need to be). Even to do the fuel system you’re supposed to pull the transmission and turbo.

    Thannk you for your videos man. Very helpful. Recently im havin issues on my 2012 lml with roughly 240k miles on it. The truck will just kinda hiccup and stop running for a second then come back. More recently within the last few days its been hiccuping as i slow down at like a stop sign and then go into limp mode. And finally nownit just stays in limo mode. It always throws the same 2 codes p0091 p0193. Do you think is an indicator of failing cp4 pump or is it common for fuel regulator to fail? Any advice you have id he grateful. Thanks

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  9 місяців тому +2

      Sounds like you have a wiring issue somewhere. The p0091 is for the fuel pressure regulator 1 circuit which is the one in the pump called the volume control valve. The p0193 is for the fuel rail pressure sensor located on the back of the driver side fuel rail near the firewall. I would first start with a good visual inspection of the wiring and if nothing is found wiggle the wiring while its running to see if it acts up to locate the location of the problem.

      I believe its the poor quality fuel in the us aswell. I always recommend running some sort of lubricant addictive to help these pumps and changing the fuel filter often with a factory part. I understand your point, I’ve had two of these valves save the high side of the fuel system. When we do full system replacement on the lml and the Powerstroke 6.7 if the customer doesn’t opt for the upgraded cp3 for the lml or dcr for the Powerstroke we install these. I am curious on the restriction of these valves , but I have yet to have any issues with them after installing probably 50 of them.

      Not at all , cp3 is the way to go. This just prevents the metal spreading to the injectors and rails when the cp4 fails. What I suggest is install this first and when the pump fails do the cp3 conversion. The valve alone will save over 5k at a shop not replacing the injectors and rails.

    Did you see any problems starting the truck when it got to warm, but would start fine when cooled down? Could this be CP4 related??

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  10 місяців тому +1

      I have experienced that issue with a couple ford 6.7’s (similar fuel system as the lml) and a couple lml’s aswell. Usually that’s a sign of a bad injector (injector is leaking the high pressure fuel into the return) or the fuel pressure regulator is acting up (on the drivers side fuel rail). I have yet to see any cp4 issues besides them blowing up. And from what I’ve been told it usually happens while driving and they slowly decrease power and then shut down. Start with checking the fuel rail pressure with a scan tool. If it’s close to desired I would check the return rate from the injectors next.

      @drewsshoplife just installed a airdog lift pump, truck needed one no doubt I currently have 247,000 miles on the truck I have no problems with it at all other than a little startup problem when it is cold fires right up, when I drive it and get it up to temp it will not start until it cools down to at least 170 degrees on the temp gauge, looked at fuel rail pressure injector timing all that good stuff everything looked good to my knowledge. The truck before the lift pump was added was loosing prime due to not having a lift pump and I bought a fuel filter housing cause they sometimes develop cracks in the housing causing the truck to suck air and not start but now the lift pump is added it has prime in the filter. Running out of ideas on what the situation could be???

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  10 місяців тому

      @@jimmystrough6775 Sounds like when the its loosing fuel pressure when the engine is hot starting. You should verify that with a scan tool and verifying the actual vs desired fuel rail pressure. If you are not able to build enough pressure at a hot start you could have a or multiple bypassing injectors (bypassing to return) or an issue with the fuel pressure regulator.

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  Рік тому

      Unfortunately that’s usually what happens when the cp4 fails. I have yet to see the volume control valve fail by itself yet. One of the easier ways to tell is remove the fuel filter and see if there is shiny metal in it. If so the pump has likely failed. Before pulling the control valve I would check the high pressure on a scanner to see if it’s low. If so pull the volume control valve and you’ll likely find metal.

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  Рік тому +1

      @@kyle-409 This is a great start, I would suggest doing a nice filtered lift pump like fass or air dog and run a fuel additive. @@kyle-409 Maintenance is key on these trucks , use factory filters. The energy valve would be the best place to start. The lml’s seem to be very reliable besides the cp4 and emission systems.
