I think the only benefit the LML and LMM have over the L5P is the true Allison 1000 trans. That 10 speed has a lot to prove if it’s going to stand up to its predecessor.
@@Brin.K Absolutely I own a 16LML and a 18 L5P the Allison 1000 is an amazing transmission that’s why I think the new 10 speed has some big shoes to fill.
@@Rubbermeetsrd I agree completely and tbh I want to give General Motors a generation or 2 before I chase after the 10spd, let them work all the kinks out first.
I was nervous of the 10 speed when I got my 22 but after 30,000 miles of pulling the north Cascades pass and Rocky Mountain passes with averages of 10 to 12,000 pound trailer I just can’t see looking back. I literally never run out of power and just have to slow down for the corners. And the fuel mileage never cease to amaze me. I’m not much of a gearhead, but I am interested in getting to my hunting or next fishing spot.
Enjoyed the content here. I have a 2015 LML on my 3500 Dually. I watch the numbers closely. I get 18-21 on the highway and 13 in town. When towing my 12,700lb 38' 5th wheel, it's about 10-12mpg on the highway. ALWAYS has enough power when needed to get into the left lane and pass with no issues when the trailer is on. Still have the CP4 but am putting an Air dog pre pump on her this month. 75K for mileage on the truck. Love her...
The banks derringer and pedal monster are well worth the money for the 23. In my opinion no 6 speed is going to tow like the 10 spd in the 20 plus. The problem with using so little fuel and trying to judge mileage is the amount of foam will shut the pump off at different times.. so unless you over fill it you're not gonna be very accurate
I got a nice chevy 2010 Lmm dually with, sb intake, straight pipe, 10 blade turbo, high performance solenoid and a five switch chip and this thing is a beautiful running tank
I have a Duraburb with an 08 LMM and Alison trans. It's a tank. Open road cruising it gets 20-22 MPG. I didn't hear it mentioned, but if there is a difference in the axle gear ratios, then the mpg and 0-60 isn't a fair comparison. Technically you would have to include the trans gear ratio, diff gear ratio, and tire diameters to make the comparison, but nobody going to change the tire sizes so they all have the exact same overall ratio. Still fun to watch.
My 2019 Deleted and Tuned L5P (3500 SRW) there is (like yours) A MASSIVE difference between the trip computer numbers and hand calculated. The trip computer is far more optimistic than hand calculated numbers. I still average 19-20 mpg hand calculated mpg (unloaded) on the highway though, which is amazing since the computer numbers show way higher. I get 11MPG. One thing you may want to look into is ensuring you wait 30 seconds after the first click upon filling up, and then topping off to the 2nd click. The reason for this, especially for diesel fuel, is that it foams up quite a bit, and each truck has a different fuel filler neck, which (given flow variances between pumps and fuel filler neck design variances etc) can result in larger differences especially with diesel vehicles. If you try this, you likely will notice that sometimes the time to the second click will be longer than others based on these differences. It's great to minimize the variances so you can maximize the accuracy wherever possible - and the reason most larger auto journalists do it that way (IE TFL etc). Anyway, still a cool vid - thanks for posting!
When I bought my used 220k mile LMM, I accidentally lit the tires up on the test drive (it was cold out). They boogie. Now with a tow tune, I have to be careful because at full send, the transmission will definitely die. Gets 21mpg with 35's on it at 70mph. Can't beat the thing, best diesel ever

The 09 os alot lighter than the l5p if Im not mistaken
I say build both and tune and maybe the exhaust will fall off :) i know someone if you want that
LB7 is king!!!!!
Sell the '23 and use part of the money for
'09 upgrades.
I still say get rid of the new one build the old one. A mild build so it's still reliable.
the LLY is the best😏
I'd keep the 2023 unless you put a 1,000 WHP and 2,000 ft lbs of torque from a boosted 12 valve Cummins.
You missing out on 2024 redesign
09 LMM GANG RAHHHHHHHHHH
Keep the 23. More reliable, time is money, and it’s a tax right off on your business
Def kills mpg
💯
Sell the ‘23 before the transmission goes out and build the 09!
New 10L1000 is not that expensive from the dealership. Sucks they aren’t reliable like the 6speeds. But I have a 94 Japanese sports car that cost more to replace the manual transmission. The 10L1000 does seem to go out fairly early when towing heavy and frequently though
Try to get an average off of a 25 mile trip lol😂. Hell my mustang could average 25 if I based it off that 😆.
Looks like you guys are driving 127, rich rules baby!
Little bit east of that 😉
