    I have always found it to be much easier and faster to unbolt the bed and lift that off with the hoist. You don’t have to manhandle the tank or disturb everything around the tank including fuel lines. Injector return rates aren’t fun to test on these trucks but this truck would be a good candidate to test them on given the issues you have had and the miles on the truck. I would personally test that before throwing a new CP3 at it.

    I got an 08 GMC Duramax. Bought it slightly used in 09 started working the known issues to make the truck completely reliable. I deleted the DPF and EGR functions, did a reroute of the PCV and added a FASS lift pump and fuel filter delete up front. Then replaced all fluids with synthetic. A few years ago I got very tired of the stock 26 gallon tank and did an S&B 62 gallon tank. The truck has over 200k on it and I would not think of getting rid of it. Runs perfect and pulls everything I got without knowing it is back there.

    I think you're gonna need injectors my friend. Ive been fighting the same exact thing with my LMM. The injector return rates were fine until I towed heavy in the summer heat. The fuel gets hot, the return rates spike and bam. P0087 reduced engine power. I installed new injectors and an AirDog 165 5g ( bought it off your website btw) and we are good to go. I also fired the parts cannon at it to no avail. I wish i wouldve just replaced the injectors right away.

    My LML Duramax did this to me twice. After the 2nd manual regen at the dealer, I had the DPF removed and had it tuned so the electronics wouldn't complain. A couple of months later, I had all of the rest of the emissions taken off and it is never been better. It came with the CP4 fuel pump, so I converted to the CP 3 while I was at it. Fortunately, I live in Texas where they only do safety checks on diesels, not emissions.

    I just got mine back after having very similar issues but only when outside temps where high (above 85 F) and while towing. They pulled the injectors for a bench test to simulate higher fuel temps and found almost all injectors had bad return rates despite good balance rates. Luckily the truck had no fuel pump issues or else the bill would have been crazy high. Had them do the race plug and install my air dog I got from you months ago since they were in there doing work.

    The sending unit was the problem with my son's LLY. I had replaced lines throughout, the filter and head, and a Raptor lift pump. Still acted up. I knew the fuel pump was fine being it would run fine and strong when it wasn't being stupid. I ended up putting in a sump on the fuel tank and now it runs perfect.

    Hey truck master, you are missing a important key element when repairing. The owner hauls a trailer. While testing a truck that hauls a trailer, you also need to perform test with a trailer that is empty and loaded. I'm talking from over 15 years of experience on working on trucks and including big rigs. I'm not bashing you or anything like that. You are doing a good job repairing vehicles but gotta pay attention to customer details. For example how they drive, what the vehicle is being used for, etc. I want to see you excel at what you do. Keep up the good work.

    Drain some fuel , and let it sit in a glass jar. If you see tiny bubbles that’s water / micro beeds!
    What it is actually is animal fats from fast food restaurants.
    Refineries are allowed to mix up to 20/40 bio diesel depends on what part of the country your in.
    I went through a similar situation with my trucks , had me chasing a ghost until a friend of mine who happens to work at the refinery and does fuel testing told me.

    Not to bad mouth a product , but I just purchased a completely new Fuel filter housing & filter assembly for my LB-7 & saw Nothing but bad Reviews on those Henkyo filter set ups !!! Just my 2 cents here . I paid the extra cash & bought a new Racor / Parfit OEM setup for mine as it’s been on truck now over 20 years & I rebuilt the Pump head once about 5-7 years ago. My truck only has an issue when shut down after a long run in hot weather. Sometimes it just dies after re-starting after about a 10-15 minute period & I have to pop hood & re-prime it & other times it has No Issues. The new filter head assembly with new filters for Airdog lift pump are all going on hopefully this weekend and I’m crossing my fingers this will solve my issues . The Edge CTS-3 has shown NO rail pressure issues running under any loaded conditions & Actual pressure is very consistent with required rail pressure at any given load & speed . Only acts like it has a vapor lock or restriction after hot & sitting a few minutes. Give it a 1/2 hour cool down & the damn thing starts & runs fine every time 😐. C-ya on down the road … 🤞

      I think all vehicles have a few hundred more sensors than is really needed to get up and down the road. It's a shame that you take your vehicle to the garage. The first thing a $3000.00 tablet is plug in to your computer to tell what's wrong. I say 90% of the time it still don't know the problem. And your looking at a ,$500.00 diagnostic fee. And you still don't the problem.

    I few Months Ago I had the same issue on my Truck. So after watching so many Vedeos on UA-cam I found one vedeo that I had watched about the Ignition Switch Solenoid ... I took it apart and cleaned it out. I found out that the "Resistance" on the Switch Solenoid goes out after it heats up. So I went to O'Reilly's Auto store and bout a new Switch Solenoid, after installing it, Limp Mode went away, no more transmission Problems, like "Shift Inhibited" that went away, check Engine light went off. So After I also changed my transmission fluid out, both Filter' from my Allison Transmission, and now my transmission shifts so Smooth. I was going of from the process of Elimination, where I started with a few electrical Diagnostics and Finally I tried the Switch Solenoid..... it's an option ! If someone is have those issues, it Drove me Crazy and I felt so Frustrated where I actually thought it was my Allison Transmission....I began to panic because I didn't have Thousands of dollars for a new Transmission...where in fact it was a part which cost me less than $ 50.. Dollars....my mind feels so relieved now, that I figured out what the Source was through Simple Electrical Process of Elimination....

By the dipstick. Once the get warm they collapse and cause restrictions. Specifically on the feed side.

    I had the exact problem with a 95 f150 6 banger(gas). I changed fuel filters multiple times on my back the road. Filter wasn’t dirty after the first change but thought maybe it’s a dirty tank so I even blew air back into the supply towards the tank thinking it’s a tank sock dirty. All didn’t help! I traced every inch of the fuel line and found something I had never seen before up by the firewall next to distributor. Too tight to get to it on the road so I banged it with wrench. That fixed it! Had double power from there on out too. I believe it was because I used fuel injector cleaner and it locked something up inside that little regulator? I think I heard you say something about a regulator (I know that it’s nowhere near the same type system but if there’s a regulator and he added injector cleaner. Maybe! Idk but worth a try. Good luck sir

    Been through this ended up replacing all fuel lines adding a 165 air dog lift pump deleted the fuel lines on the engine and deleted the fuel test port and added a cp3 hi flow kit with a ported fitting and a new fuel filter head assembly since after rebuilding the stock one I still wasn’t happy. And yet was still getting p0087. Come to find out one of the first things I ever did the Ppe fuel race plug wasn’t seated in 100% and letting diesel into the return lines anything past 20k psi there for throwing it into low fuel pressure and I tested this by disconnecting the return line off the plug and ran my own 3/8 line down to a clear water bottle took it for a drive got it into limp and saw the bottle was over flowing full so diesel was getting past the plug. Fixed the plug and haven’t had a problem since. But I also replaced the whole fuel system except for a new cp3 but did a ported fitting and new fuel pressure regulator on the cp3.

    If injectors are returning too much fuel it will drain the rail, pretty common, the rates will read fine, injectors will sound normal and all but there physically returning too much fuel and draining the rail and cp3 can’t keep up. I’d put money on injectors not the cp3

      Deleting your trucks when you are a shop owner would probably put a target on your back with the EPA. Their fines kill diesel shops.

    The best way to tell if your injectors are returning to much fuel without doing the time consuming bottle test is your will always have very high fuel temps . Way above normal . Lmm injectors are bad about returning to much fuel . Your balance rates are always good . Very seldom is it a cp3. I’m a experienced diesel tech .

    I have had recurring intermittent problems with reduced engine power on my 07 Duramax except it has been a throttle position sensor correlation code every time (can’t remember the number). Changed pedals with other trucks and new ones, changed the plug, ohmed wires, cleaned connections. About the only thing left to do is replace the ECM. Nothing makes sense. So frustrating, especially when it acts up pulling a trailer.

      You need a harness to pedal module . Probably a bad wire .

    Check the suction on the cp3. If the truck doesn't have a lift pump the injection pump could be bad on the suction side

    Also my lmm is a reduce power no codes found related to fuel presiure

    I also own a 2007 lmm. I’m not a mechanic, but when my truck was having the same issues, we changed everything possible, new fuel lines, added a lift pump, and still had the issue. The solution was the changing the injectors. The truck has run like a top since. Going on 2 years now

    I don't know but Banks fuel pumps, parts, etc. to me is the only way to go. More and better engineering. If you are building specialty trucks then do whatever, but if you are building general trucks for service, then Banks.

    I have the 7.5 LMM with the exact same issues!! I have thrown a new FPR on it, Fuel lines not kinked, new fuel filter housing (now delete kit), Airdog lift pump, and now waiting for a fuel rail pressure sensor.... I also bought the sump and will be installing that soon. I hope its not a CP3 issue... but my question to you is if I put the sump in, will I also need to replace the sending unit or can I just leave that alone and just block it off?

    • @hdstreet4524
      @hdstreet4524 11 місяців тому

      Just did a beans sump and 165 lift pump, you can just block it off. But I would keep the return line hooked up so fuel from engine still has a place too go. My feed and return are both on the sump. Also keep it plugged in so your fuel level sensor still works for your fuel gauge. Lastly, double check when you install the sump that you do not hit the sending unit and or float. Wasn’t the most fun job but the after is well worth it

    • @TruckMaster
      @TruckMaster  11 місяців тому +1

      Keep it in place and just run the sum no need to block it off except the suction port on the sending unit I believe

    • @hdstreet4524
      @hdstreet4524 11 місяців тому

      @@TruckMaster you are correct. Beans kit came with a 1/2 inch plug. Mine wasn’t so easy, pinched the line to hard so plug wouldn’t go in, had to cut the fitting off and use the plug with a clamp. The rubber braided lines I noticed are way under quality which you saw on this truck. There is actually a gm bulletin on all those sections from tank to motor collapsing. Had to replaced my main feed line the other day due to that. Lift pump helped but on a hot day cruising 75 on cruise I could tell a small lag still. The pump helped keep the kink spots open but not enough. Ordered evil energy fuel line and used the feed quick disconnects from air dogg kit and made and ran a brand new line. So far so good.
