We have a term in boxing for coaches and fighters that learn about the sport not just inside the ring, but outside of it too. We call them "students of the game." You're the vlogger version of this concept. You, sir, are a student of the game of vlogging. What a great overview of Casey's filmmaking and how his scene selection serves his storytelling. I learned a lot from your video.
Haha! I suppose so! Nice connection with the sport of boxing. I’m more into basketball, and we also share this term. But more importantly, I finally starting to allow myself to apply the things I’m learning, and begin to really enjoy this process of making films about everyday lives.
Thanks for the tips!! As always you bring these easy-to-miss details and tips and tricks to people’s attention! :) cant wait to see more personal videos too!
Broooo! I'll watch any Casey video breakdown you'll make!! Great video and I can only imagine how much effort you put in to these kind of videos! Big fan!
Good video. One of the things I see that Casey Neistat does well is, he does a lot of things that look dangerous, like writing his electric skateboard in the middle of traffic or crashing his bikes into cars, setting up a table for questions and answers in the middle of traffic or on the edge of a building. All these things seem very dangerous. Although I don't think he is careless or dangerous. He is very careful and smart. He knows how to make it look dangerous and he gets people's adrenaline going by watching the video because they want to see what happens next. What do you think?
yeah totally agree. Being a rebel and reckless is definitely something he consciously cultivates as a brand identity. I remember there was an interview with one of the guys from David Dobrik's crew, and they were talking about a collab they did with Casey. He says Casey was meticulous in directly what everyone should be doing and when throughout the entire day. And supposedly on their plane ride to vegas(?), Casey sat down next to him, and asked him, "what's your brand?". That totally doesn't sound like something that the Casey persona would say from the vlogs. I'm not saying he's fake though. But, he certainly thinks it's funny to make videos that plays up a side of him for entertainment. Hence the reckless opening of boxes. XD
Great analysis! Got here from your video about Matt. Your observations and additional insights are gems every UA-camr storyteller needs to know and Imma go and apply them to my videos soon. Keep it up King! 👌
one of the best breakdown of the camera angles, was wondering why no uploads since last 3 years. superb channel
