Just a heads up the water will reverse back up the pipe for drainage in the shower because you drilled the hole into the waste water tank at the bottom not the top of the tank , also , no point in having a 90 mm fan if your going to reduce it anyhow , hope this helps :)
Hi Riley, thank you for your comment! As it's the most liked comment and other people commented the same, we have decided to run a 'plumbing test' today and film it. It will be in next week's episode, you will be interested in the outcome 👍
That fridge is going to use much more energy in the conversion process from 12 or 24 v to 220v ac. You going to need a very good pure sine wave inverter.
agree. X-section area is probably only 10% of the 90mm. Those fans dont generate any appreciable pressure and are severely restricted if you reduce the area that much
I’m sure reducing the 90mm fan to 22mm will reduce the CFM ( cubic feet per minute) output of the fan it will only be as good as a 22mm fan . Those types of fans need the same air coming in as going out
Mount two check-valves at the upper side of the drain tank, and drain each side of the shower separately, without using any 90° fittings. Use smooth flexible tubing to connect the drains individually into the holding tank.
Hey guys, your grey waste set up will not work properly when the tank is full, as the inlet is at the bottom of the tank. I suggest to connect at the top. You will have to move your fanny trap aka the waterless trap up high. Also try to have continuous fall or you might get some blockages. another thing you could do to future proof the set up is to put pipe insulation around any exposed water pipes or waste pipes.
Sorry Chris, I don’t like being a grinch/ knocker but I see some glaring issues. No 1 ) the fan diameter is and needs to be unrestricted in other words the cfm of air cannot be restricted you will get back pressure and burn out the fan plus it won’t be very effective, 1a) the sewage breather pipe should be taken to the highest point so as the smell can dissipate freely and not blow back under the mog and impact your external rec space.2) merbau great Indonesian timber but it swells a lot even with water proof varnish the moisture ingresses vis the end grain and you will get bowing of the timber, I hope you used t55 sika flex floor adhesive for it is the only floor glue that is vulcanised and therefore has the greatest chance of coping with the movement of the timber/ CAUTION timber and soap is a very slippery combination, please be aware of this. 3) your grey water tank the waste needs to come in from the top of the tank or you will get back flow the fuller the tank gets.4) please do not put in a window on that front panel you are guaranteed to have water and dust ingress issues, it is your choice but an led bar will provide more than enough light without using very little power and is a far cheaper option.5) all your external pipe outlets should have dust caps on them except your high mounted toilet breather that should have a micro screen installed on the end. 6) your fridge is a cracker but please make sure that all the working parts are supported by rubber and foam to limit any damage due to vibration issues caused from corrugated roads.6a) running a large converter for your fridge will generate a lot of heat so please be aware and take it’s placement into consideration.7) it would be wise to put a protect plate over the area where your plumbing is, so it is protected against accidental damage caused from branches or rocks being flicked up and damage your plumbing. The added advantage is all your pipe work will be dust/ dirt free. The interior cladding you purchased is in my opinion the best on the market .The final point is remember fluids should always come in to the top of the tank and there needs to be a slight fall over the whole length of the pipe so the pipe does not retain any fluid. Please don’t think I am a professional knocker, I just want you to have the best well built mog on a budget that has hassle free systems and long life durability
Chris: sorry to say that the shower drains, the way you have them set will not work. You will have MAJOR issues with drainage, and water back up. If you keep the system as is, you will have to pressurize the drain. It will be better to drain each side of the shower drain separately into the TOP of the holding tank. The "T" with the 90° elbow, along with the check valve will cause Problems. I have no way to send you a drawing for proper installation.
I have noticed that you have put your inlets into your tanks at the bottom of your tanks. This will create back pressure and stop flowing as soon as the level equalises. your inflow should be on the top.
that bathroom came up amazing guys, well done. A few tips for the fridge if i may as we ran a smaller one but very similar in our slide on for years without a single problem..No1 put some pool noodles between the condenser and the fridge back to stop it vibrating on corro roads. no2, put some rubber blocks under the motor mount plate to stop it bouncing about on the rough roads and cracking the pipes..no3, we made some shelf frames out of 20mm plastic angle from Bunnings on the front of each shelf to stop things bouncing out in travel. cable ties held them all well. no4, our fridge drew 600w @240vac and we ran a 2000 w inverter 24/7 while travelling and it never failed us. i had 2x 250w panels and 2x100w gel batteries and only on bad weather days did i need to top things up with the genny or my foldout 120w panels. The fridge is now in retirement in my workshop and still never mosses a beat after i did those few simple mods to help it cope with bouncing about the country. Hope this helped a little
Just a heads up on your grey water tank. The water inlet to the tank needs to be through the top of the tank, not the bottom. Having it through the bottom will cause the water to backup and not drain. The other issue is water will be forced backup the drain into the shower when your travelling. Also your toilet paper roll will unroll while travelling if the roll is left on the holder while travelling. Sorry not being negative to your build, I'm really enjoying watching what your both doing.
Was a gold prospector in serious isolation for many years. Only used 12v fridge for two years. Ended up with solar and two Vitra Frego 240v fridge freezers I would never use 12v fridges again. I would also protect any hard plastic pipe or valves underneath, rocks fly around under there at a furious rate.
Yeeeahh Babby!! Looking outstanding. Editing skills, transitions and composition are getting as good as the mog. I have a lot of bad words to say how incredible your home is looking, so you know is good. ¡¡PURA VIDA!!
Don’t cut another hole in your shell for the extra window, holes/penetrations should be kept to a minimum or you will up the opportunity to get water ingress problems… just add a nice light with a comfortable colour temp in that area. Beds are for sleep so dark is better and cooler 👍
That's a fair point! Although we aren't sure it would be bright enough for our wardrobe area? We've ordered a 12v light that we will install soon on the wall we've just built. We'll complete the build and decide what to do :)
Good work, I agree with the toilet exhaust fan comments. You have to much restriction on the fan. You will decrease the performance and longevity of the fan motor. You have to remove the black 20mm pipe unfortunately. Cheers
It is an absolute delight watching you two working together . Yes there is off camera , but what you show on camera is what Love is all about . It will not be long before you stand back and say " We built that " truly something to be very proud of . I hope Bunnings watch you in this build ,because without you I would say Bunnings would go broke . Hope they sponsor you in a very big way ..
Great episode and worth the wait. I'm concerned about the 240v fridge needing a big inverter running all the time, It's not efficient, The fridge may switch off but the inverter will continue to chew the power even when nothing running. Also shower drain pipes will hold water because they are curved, that will smell if left for long periods and freeze up too. Sorry to throw constructive feed back, maybe ask others if I'm correct?? Love your work ethic Chris and Ange. You're doing an amazing job. Marty from Perth
Hi Marty I think you are correct with your comments on the 240v fridge the inverter will chew power, heaps of solar might cover the demand in the daytime weather .A large number of Lithium batteries would be a must hot overcast weather generator only solution. Ian
ha bud, you should have put your gravity grey water waste and piss jerry can holes at the top not bottom dont think they will fill also breather fan will be noisy on the shitter cause you have reduced flow
Chris, the shower waste should have been plumbed to drop to the “top” of the grey water tank. Where you placed it at the “bottom” you’ll never be able to fully fill the grey water tank (maybe only 1/4 capacity), as the back-pressure from the water already in the tank will eventually equalise against the water from the shower to effectively form a block and your shower is going to backup and flood! I understand why you did this as the top of the tank is pretty much level with the underneath of the floor. If you want to keep your current arrangement you’d need to install a 12v in-line pump, switched on when having a shower to then actively force the water into the grey tank.
I hope you guys realize that all the time and effort and money you have spent to build that bathroom specifically the toilet you could have just bought a cassette toilet with your drains and holding tanks being below the the base of the MOG they're also going to be prone to freezing and damage from being off-road and you're going to need a check valve on the shower drain so that the water from outside in the mud when you're stuck in a river doesn't flow in to the mog
Thanks for sharing your progress. Your work is inspiring. I start my similar project next month. Good to see you improving your “wheel-estate” on my ol beast.
Great work as usual! At 12:00min, not sure if you want to have your grey water inlet sitting on the bottom end. It won’t fill up much further than the inlet height and the other issue might be back flow when tilted at an angle towards the passenger side. I would probably position the inlet on the highest point on the side of the tank.
I think you'll find running a fridge that big with an inverter constantly running is going to drain the batteries like crazy and also overwork the hell out of the inverter, bushman do a 130L upright fridge which is surprisingly large and you can fit a lot in it, although it is $1500 but you're better of buying once right
@@heartobefelt The most efficient (from a power perspective), is to have the fridge compressor running at directly from the batteries. In this case a 12V compressor. Power loss due to cables is insignificant (and you can just over-engineer the cable cross sectional area), compared to the losses having to go through an inverter running 24/7!
my only concern would be is that the location of the hole that the shower drains into your tank is way to low even with a water trap there is not enough pressure to push more then a few liters into your gray water tank. you might want to look at putting the drain pipe at the very top of your gray water tank.
Always enjoyed following this build, I'm commenting now to offer some constructive advice because I can see you guys are trying really hard. Taking the extractor fan to atmosphere at 90mm would have been absolutely fine. The shower waste underneath the veichle is running uphill so it'll be extremely slow draining. Ideally you want a slight 'fall' on the waste or if that's not possible keep them flat. Most importantly though, the liquids waste tank taking the foul water from the sink/shower will need to be vented in order to allow it to drain at all. In houses Soil stacks are vented to prevent any sort of vacuum restricting the flow of waste, the tale tale sign of a vacuum preventing drainage is Glugging. Get yourself a 32/40mm 'Air admittance' fitting from your local hardware store and install that into the top of the tank. All the best guys!
I’ve been waiting so long for the video that I was scared to watch it. What will I watch now that I have. Great job guys. It’s almost time to get out just a few more things.
Fantastic progress, just watch the merbau, it leeches tannins for a while, maybe try Jarrah for a similar colour, although it is pricey and heavy, or Bamboo it is lighter and ok with constant water. Need to watch the flex pipe going through the chassis for rubbing, looking forward to the next video to see if you get any backflow from the shower drain
Hi guys doing a great job, I think the 240 v fridge is a big mistake, inverter power is very inefficient and will kill your batteries as a full time use, we have a great upright 12 v / 240. V upright fridge that cuts off at night when not in use 👍
Good work guys, but a couple of issues I see. The drains from the shower into the tank won't fill the tank like that due to back pressure, reducing the fan isn't going to work real well, fridge running off the inverter all the time, 12v fridge would be far more efficient and the merbau decking will leach tannins that will stain everything even if you seal it very well
The Iverter in our van has a very noisy fan to cool it and runs a lot of the time it’s on .I hope yours won’t have the fan running too long to run the fridge ( or is quieter than ours). All the best, love the build so far.
Nice progress! Love following the journey of the build every week. Just the kwila decking will bleed and stain anything around it a dirty brown red colour. Might not be the best product to use there especially getting wet constantly.
Yeah Aaron is right, that merbau timber leaches tannin for a while. Solid stable timber apart from that. Maybe leave it outside in the weather for a few weeks first. Even though I reckon that shower base will end up dirty and red after a north/west trip anyway.
Careful with that old wood, especially around a child. There might be lead in that old paint and I’m not sure how far that kind of stuff penetrates into wood.
Great video as always guys! Have you done any research regards what angles the fridge can operate on? I’ve been thinking about a domestic fridge as well due to coast, but what I found so far is that they don’t like being on even a small angle for a short time when running? Any info you have would be highly appreciated
Hello guys, how is the DIY separating toilet and shower tray holding up? You had some problems with water going into the toilet hatches and used a plastic bag on top op it, did you end up finding another solution? What would you recommend doing differently for someone starting a similar install? I'm planning something very similar and was thinking to have the hatch on the vertical side of the toilet instead of the top, and maybe have another on the outside wall to get out the bin. I've been following you for a long time since before the mog build! Really enjoyed all the videos and your adventures, can't wait for the next one 🔥
I think that fridge is gonna be a possible issue for you... 326kwh...is 326,000wh/year... That works out to 926.13 wh/day. An average 200ah lithium battery is 2560wh total.... using 460wh overnight & 926wh in 24hours on a rainy days, will put a BIG load on your electrical system.
Volts x amps = watts. Regardless of voltage, it will always equal the same wattage. 12v x 20A = 240w 240v x 1A = 240w So as you can see...if the fridge uses only 1A @ 240v...it’s still gonna suck 20A from a 12v system, without even factoring in inverter inefficiencies. On a rainy very overcast day, you’ll be lucky to see 4A from solar panels...now if you need 20A for the fridge, you’ll need a lot of battery storage....where as most 12v fridges, use 5-10A to run...& they also cycle, not stay on constantly.
the hoses for the shower outlet, if it has a curve it will keep water there on the washing machine hoses, it all has to be downwards otherwise water will be kept in the middle and normally that's no prob but you said something about freezing?
Very nice vids! Just discovered you guys recently via Overlanding facebook pages. Totally unrelated question btw, what brand are those black/grey camo leggings Ange is wearing right at the start of the vid? They look awesome on her.
The issue with the shower drains you will have is once the tank fills up a bit it will take a lot of head pressure from the shower to push water in to the bottom of tank that has grey water in it pushing back it won't work you should have put the inlet on top of the tank.
HELLO.. i am very happy with my Inverter and its very cost effective for charger /inverter i use the GROWATT 3500 w inverter for my 12M Buss we live in full time.. hit me up if you want to chat about power systems. nice work on your build
Thank you for letting us know! We got hacked recently so everything was removed so we had to change back everything - our correct account is @the.out.fit
The first 1000 of you to use this link will get a one-month free trial of Skillshare Premium Membership: skl.sh/theoutfit09211 Who else use Adobe Premiere Pro and get frustrated with it? Would love to get some feedback on anyone using DaVinci Resolve!
You can also drain your shower water directly to the ground. It is environmentally safe. (unless you have stupid regulations that will not allow you to do so).
I use Davinci resolve , much easier than premiere , plenty of aftermarket consoles and stuff for it to help with workflow but the best thing is the amount of tutorials available online 👍

You should keep the fan outlet size as is, reducing the air outlet size will put some stres on the fan.
The head pressure of the grey water tank is going to keep you from filling the tank. The hole should be at the top not the bottom.
How cool was that !!! turned your shower into a bathtub LOL (if you forget to pull the Plugs)
It’s certainly coming along..👌🏼
The fridge looks great, hope you guys measured it up so it’s fits thro the mog door🙂
I will let my friend Jordy vanderput know you did a shoutout 😃 good progress on the build!
12v x 20A = 240w
240v x 1A = 240w
So as you can see...if the fridge uses only 1A @ 240v...it’s still gonna suck 20A from a 12v system, without even factoring in inverter inefficiencies.
On a rainy very overcast day, you’ll be lucky to see 4A from solar panels...now if you need 20A for the fridge, you’ll need a lot of battery storage....where as most 12v fridges, use 5-10A to run...& they also cycle, not stay on constantly.
You should make timber 1half inch with inch gap on two pieces of same timber In your shower
the hoses for the shower outlet, if it has a curve it will keep water there on the washing machine hoses, it all has to be downwards otherwise water will be kept in the middle and normally that's no prob but you said something about freezing?
How is the fridge holding up after the last few years? Any opinions or regrets?
We have filmed a one year review if you look at our videos at the start of the year :)
Good video
Very nice vids! Just discovered you guys recently via Overlanding facebook pages. Totally unrelated question btw, what brand are those black/grey camo leggings Ange is wearing right at the start of the vid? They look awesome on her.
Thanks a lot for watching :) Legging is from Bombshell Sportswear, absolutely love it!
@@TheOutFit Ahh, many thanks for the quick reply! Was already googling what the SB on the leg stood for ;) Good luck with the build of the new rig!!
It looks good and you out of water
Would it be possible to somehow bubble the stinky air through a water filter?
The issue with the shower drains you will have is once the tank fills up a bit it will take a lot of head pressure from the shower to push water in to the bottom of tank that has grey water in it pushing back it won't work you should have put the inlet on top of the tank.
the floor of your camper were did you getit and what is it
It's called Thermolite : ua-cam.com/video/iiSzKmrgQ_k/v-deo.html

HELLO.. i am very happy with my Inverter and its very cost effective for charger /inverter i use the GROWATT 3500 w inverter for my 12M Buss we live in full time.. hit me up if you want to chat about power systems. nice work on your build
Use already posted this video
Are you guys expecting a baby?
I didn't look at full a you did what I said
Do you think the gardina fittings will withstand the heat from the exhaust?
Perhaps try to insulate them?

Hi new subscriber.
I need to say you have issue with the Instagram account link. If you press it pops other account.
Thank you for letting us know! We got hacked recently so everything was removed so we had to change back everything - our correct account is @the.out.fit
Am I missing something? Did you guys have a kid?

Who else use Adobe Premiere Pro and get frustrated with it? Would love to get some feedback on anyone using DaVinci Resolve!
You can also drain your shower water directly to the ground. It is environmentally safe. (unless you have stupid regulations that will not allow you to do so).
Marine showers, and sinks drain overboard. The only water that goes into the holding tank is the "black water" from the toilet (head in marine lingo".
I use Davinci resolve , much easier than premiere , plenty of aftermarket consoles and stuff for it to help with workflow but the best thing is the amount of tutorials available online 👍
@@cyberspooky Good to hear, thanks! I think I'll give it a go to compare - Premiere Pro updates are ruining the software!
Are you draining the liquids into the bottom of them tanks ????
Good progress! I love the look of the walls! Y'all are doing great!
