I can't believe you're just working this out as you go. Incredibly amazing job guys!! you should be so proud. wouldn't be many couples who could pull this kind of bespoke build off - really inspiring
Hey guys! I came to the channel for the Unimog a few days ago but I stayed for the awesome videos! I've been binge watching all your older ones in the Jeep and now I'm loving this build series. The house part is looking fantastic and I love the carpet and seats in the cab!
@The OutFit you do know that a normal domestic fridge collects water underneath in a pan from the defrosting system that runs once or twice a day. Also, that water is important for cooling off the compressor, so it can't be simply drain to the outside. Also they don't like being on an angle, and you will have to run your inverter 24-7. You can still sell that and get a proper vehicle fridge. Your vehicle is an off roader, those fridges are not designed to cope with constant movement and vibration.
Great work. You two handle the unsolicited “input” so well. We are full time travelers and don’t UA-cam mostly because we financially don’t need to but the biggest downside is the negativity in people’s comments. I’m sure some are helpful but so many are just unnecessary. Keep positive and keep building, if you change something later that’s just part of the journey!
It tends to be an Australian trait to go earn your money and not be e-begging so when people are obviously shilling it never goes down well with viewers. People are negative they just don't say it to your face so when you read the you tube comments that's reflective of the society you are living in.
Not so much of a negative comment or giving unsolicited advice. I was one of the people who mentioned that the drain from shower might be am issue. The reason behind my comment was because I have done things on my builds that I had stuffed up and wished someone had pointed it out to me as it would have saved my trying to sort it out in the middle of nowhere. My comment was because I didn't want to see people spend hard earned money and time only to have things go sideways out in the middle of nowhere without any help or shops around to get what they need to fix it. And these guys have have done a few things that wouldn't have worked out and had it not been for people not commenting on their videos they would have been none the wiser and it could have cost them more in the long run
You both are a inspiration to a lot of us travellers and do-it-yourself enthusiasts. Keep it up, dont give up and enjoy the fruits of your hard labour.
great build, have been following from the start. We also have the Truma aircon installed but we went to the metal fabricator with the template and got him to make it in stainless steel with drop throughs (the vent ducts) 100mm deep with very fine stainless steel insect mesh and caps (so if we were to wade , we can shut the vents off with the caps)
Guy’s I stand corrected on the plumbing concern I am glad you did not encounter the back pressure issue which I expressed concern about but well done the living quarters and the front cab are really taking shape and are really starting to look awesome. Well done to the pair of you and enjoy your break you truely both deserve the little get away.
Chris...to speed up the drainage, a system requires ventilation, meaning, it needs a pipe to the exterior to allow air entrance to the drainage,,,,Congrats on the camper build!
Have a great time away. I would have thought most your Have done so far Have been right on the money because of all the research that you both do on every thing you both tackle.
Your aircon should be where all your electronics are found as to keep them dry. You can build your step platform that could fold under the truck with hinges and then roll up to the door or slide when you unlock it.....Cheers, Chris and Ange.
Nice progress and a great idea to have some R&R to allow you to clear your minds, enjoy mother nature and come up with your next game plan for the remainder of the Unimog build. It has been great watching you both throughout this journey and thank you very much for sharing with us. Have a lovely trip. Love Jason from Melbourne Victoria.
As far as the drain system; don't worry about it, in buildings they require a trap of some sort at drain points to keep system gases from coming back out. Not to mention the occasional ring ect that falls off often times can be recovered in a trap.
Looks like a great unit, similar to the Dometic under-bunk maybe? Interested as to why you are thinking one outlet up high and two down low? Cold air descends as it cools does it not, hence why usually A/C outlets are up high in buildings. Plus, maybe you’d rather have cold around the upper torso than the feet I think. Just a suggestion👍
We have the same air con in our 17' poptop caravan. Heating is great, cooling isn't so good above 30° in highish humidity. The fan noise is quite loud from the unit. In saying all of that, we hardly use our air con for cooling or heating. And I stand corrected on your grey water. I'm glad it drains well.
Just thinking of your box access steps. Is the height of the door more than the height of the ground outside to the box floor ? If so, you could mount a hinge just on the inside of the door and have the ladder stored there. Open the door and flip your steps out. At night, with a rope attached to the bottom end you pull up the ladders and close the door. Just a thought.
Have you considered putting a t piece or valve on the aircon duct and poke it through the front of the box and into the cab of the mog? If you plan to run it when driving, might as well use some of that cool air where you are going to be seated
Stinky vent pipe? I have an idea, compressed air invention with an extra air tank. Test the present system first then see how you go. Excellent work guys love the videos
Good to do a shakedown before you finish as you might change your mind on the final layout/fit out. Maybe some removable covers for the AC vents to stop dust ingress while on the move. For the toilet vent have you considered a inline marine bilge blower fan. Have used them in off-road racing to make helmet air supplies, stepping down 3" in size to two 19mm hoses and still had air flow. I like the attitude of "I'll try it if it doesn't work we will try something else". I have done many Km's on the original seats, air seats luxury.
Great work guys, should be a great little shake down. You might want to add some fibreglass flywire those drain pipes to stop mud wasps and other creepy crawlers going into them.🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🇦🇺
Quite informative thanks for sharing. So regarding the AC how many batteries I need to make it work practically? Is the power dispersed from batteries easy to regain via solar? Or I need an alternative charging method (Gas Generator Inverter for example)?
Nice setup, Im looking forward to see were you take this unit. Just a few things to consider, running a converter to power up a fridge is thirsty. Also if your gonna be doing deep water crossing, your air con might fill up with water.
Hi guys, you thought about your toilet being up against the shower wall so you have full range of left to right ability . There you also wouldn't be standing up against the door to shower. Also water not aiming at shower door.
Awesome stuff guys 😁 How about a little skid shield to protect your outlet plumbing from the occasional bush you may have to drive over. Safe travels….😊😊🤝🤝
Hey Guys! It's all coming along so well! - Had a thought... With the toilet lid/box, would it help if you built it on a slight slope down towards the front? That way the water from the shower that lands on top will flow off reducing the amount you'll have to clean after showering?
@@damiand1719 I don't think a lot of heat would be sucked in if they are moving at 80km/h, perhaps when in car parks or city streets, but that just means the ac runs longer to get the temps down.
Hi Chris like the videos they are easy to watch. Can you tell me how the camper body walls are fixed to the floor/tray ?? Also a comment regarding your a/c, the issue with mounting the unit on the floor is that cold air falls to ground level as heat rises and stays at the ceiling level, the longer the ducting the less air flow. Hope this helps
Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
Hi, I am doing a bus build currently and was also wanting to use the quickboard you guys have used. Do you have any opinions on it yet? Has it been easy to work with? Would you be able to show some more details on the installation of it? Thanks Josh
If you use a fan(s) to circulate the heated/cooled air to avoid stagnant areas the outlet locations are not that critical 👍 What is the BTU’s of heating and cooling on that unit, it looks small?

The rams horns as you called them for the shower drain will act like a P Trap and stop the bad smells from your storage tank filtering up through the drain's in the shower if anything they should be more pronounced not tucked up
It's not a holiday or break if you take the Mog. I would call it R&D for the Mog LOL. Enjoy yourselves and We will wait patiently while you recharge your battery's :).
Yes I was told windmill for your RV there and should put out more electricity than a solar panel wheel so if you need to run their air conditioning day and night you shouldn't have any issues okay but you can easily check it out for yourself you know other night we'll have a good day
With the cab mounting having some degree of isolation from the chassis and hence the box, I would agree a deployable cab mounted yacht type wind turbine would be a smart move, with likely minimum vibration nuisance.
hey guys. just about to fit one of these to our off road van and I have some questions (if you have the time)... is there, or did you fit, any kind of dust filter(s) underneath the vehicle? All I can see is 4 holes that will let bulldust in. If not into the vehicle, at the very least into the air con unit itself.
Hey! No we didn't as our camper tray is 1.5m off the ground. But when we go on long dirt roads (like Cape York or Simpson desert) we usually tape the hole to limit potential dust getting in.
