- It's no secret that I've tried a lot of gels. These trials have turned out great and some of them not so great. I decided to look up what gives hair gel hold so that I can find patterns in the gels that I like. I feel a tiny bit more confident with selecting a hair gel.

I didn’t like Camielle Rose, been wanting to try Kinky Curly, but maybe Knot Today.😂 I like Wetline, Shea Moisture Daily Hydration Styling Gel and the Mane Choice Biotin Infused Gel. After learning how to get rid of the crunch I am loving these gels. Now imma go check theses ingredients.

Great video! Gels with pvp/vpva copolymer don't work on my hair. I can't even apply it on my hair cause it feels very rough and weird. So I stay away!

My favourite gel since last month is eco styling coconut. I’ve never tried it on a wash and go I just use it to lay my hair down. It doesn’t flake and my hair isn’t hard after. It has PVP in it.

Thanks for this information! I had the same experience with Camille Rose, and I use Wetline Extreme. Recently I started using As I Am Curling Jelly. It has pectin and xanthum gum in it. I love it's medium hold on damp hair.
Really great video, since changing my eating habits ( vegan too) I have started incorporating these sorts of products into my hair regime as best as possible, anyways you mentioned getting our gels and see what holding agent is included, currently I had been using CR curlmaker, however today (wish I had jumped on here first before doing my hair) decided to try JC curls on the go styling gel. Now both has pectin in the top 5 I do believe however for my fine/medium strands the JC has given me a slight crunch something I don't have with the CR, I think I used a lot more of the JC because I couldn't get a feel for it while applying if that makes any sense, anyways these two most likely will be the gels unless/until I come across something else. Oh yeah btw tried your method from your updated wash n style 2018 video really liked it short simple and it even worked. 😀

The "hold" ingredient in the gel (Design Essentials Honey Curl Forming Custard) that I used today is Xanthan Gum.

The assignment was fun and empowers us to read the ingredients on our hair product labels so that we notice ingredient patterns which can help us not waste money on products that don't work for our hair.

can you do a review on La Bella Maximum Hold Styling Gel, I know they sell it at target and walmart for like 22oz for $2 or 35oz for $3...it comes in avocado oil or coconut oil...thanks
Does pectin act as a protein? I have been using Garnier Fructis Curl Jelly for about a month and now my hair is breaking off and rough. This is a new product that I’m using.
Pectin is a film forming humectant. Humectants typically help bring moisture to the hair.
Then it may not be the pectin in the product. The product is Garnier Fructis Curl Jelly. I like the consistency of the product and I want to determine what ingredient may be causing my hair dry. Maybe it’s the second ingredient: HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE. I had to stop using this product due to the dryness and just sticking with the products that work.
