Thank you so much for this. I am a grad student at NYU majoring in Computer Engineering and currently applying for Product Management internships. I have a bunch of research papers and projects related to ML, NLP and Deep Learning. Should I include any of them in the resume as they don't really feel relevant to Product Management? Any advice?

I'm currently trying to transition from a marketing strategy role into a PM role. I do not have prior experience working as a product manager or even in the tech space so this was very helpful! As for marketing roles, do you suggest I include social media manager type roles? Most of my recent roles are in analysis, strategy and data marketing but I do have some previous experience in social media management.

I have 3 internship, 1 in a PM intern in a fintech startup, 1 User experince and research intern in a very new edtech startup, 1 Product launch intern in a gaming startup. Are these relevant to write, also how to write in the best way
hi Krishna, your experience is very relevant. You should list all of them on your resume. For the second internship, definitely emphasize on customer interview. how did you turn customer experience into requirements. what did you do in your first internship?
@@DrNancyLi In the 1 st internship I learnt about the work of a PM and worked on the engagement and revenue generation. Did User research,Made PRDs, and also did the sprint planning for the execution.
Also, I am a final year UG student at IIT Kanpur, India.

Thanks for your insightful suggestions! I wonder what should I do if I have irrelevant work experience such as being a content editor for over a year, should I try to package it more like a product manager experience or just not mention it on my resume? Also, if I worked for 3 years and then back to school for a Master's degree when I searched for a job after graduation, should I put my work experience or my education at the top of my resume?
If you can package it like PM, then go ahead. But you must understand what is PM before you know how and whether you can packager it. Check out my product portfolio video to learn more. Education at the bottom

Thank you Nancy ❤ could you please provide any suggestions ? I'm a product manager with over 10 years of experience in the local European market. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I had to take a gap period in my career. However, during that time, I continued to stay engaged in the field and updated my skills through various courses, webinars, and conferences. I'm now looking to get back into the product management role and am seeking suggestions on how to improve my visibility in the job market, particularly given that I don't have North American education or experience. I'm passionate about product management and have a strong track record of using creativity and problem-solving skills to address various situations and challenges.

Im from Sri Lanka and I'm working as Product Lead in a Startup for over a year right now. Apart from this I started my own startup and I have been working as CEO and Product Manager for it for last 3 years, and unfortunately I haven't launched any products yet to the market.
I have designing skills (I built Wireframes for both my startup and the full-time job)
I have developed marketing plan and business plan for both the jobs
I have programming knowledge and currently learning Java and Python
I have done multiple customer validation, product market fit analysis. Customer review & feedback
I have B.Sc. degree IT but not a Master’s degree
I have been applying for jobs for last 4 months, I have landed only 1 interview and got rejected in it apart from that I got rejected from countless number of application at the early stage itself.
Would you be able to help me out? I'm unable to realize where am I going wrong. I need some guidance.

I want to transition into PM. I have received 2 APM interviews but unfortunately didn't move past the 1st ones :( I need to brush-up my resume but mainly, how do you speak like a PM and make sure you're hitting all the necessary considerations?
First of all, congrats on landing two APM interviews. Your experience should definitely qualify you for PM roles. Hi Dr.Nancy, I have 3 internship experience but not really relevant to PM. But I have made up my mind to become a product manager during my last internship, before that it was more like a self-exploring journey. btw I just finish my bachelor degree in economics:)
One is with a FMCG market analysis company that my responsibility was to update quarterly data and analysis market performance for our clients, such as L'Oréal , Estée Lauder, Unilever.. And the second one is in Shenzhen stock exchange as a market supervision team intern.
Last one was in a software App startup, I had some product brainstorm and product testing experience.
I'm struggled to pursue this dream cause I don't have the background. Thank you!
