Unfortunately Dio will never get the recognition he so rightfully deserves for being such an amazing lyricist and musician period. He was also an incredible human being. I had the pleasure of seeing Dio on February 14, 2001 in new Orleans on the magica tour and he was just as glad to have us there as we were to be there. Never forgot his roots or where he came from, incredibly humble and gracious person who took time to speak with everyone who wanted to speak with him. I'll never forget that experience and can't say enough good things about RJD. R.i.p Dio

Bach can. Coverdale can. Eric Martin can. Gillan could for a time. Jack Black can. Marek Piekarczyk can. Steve Tyler can. Coltrane Jr can. No one is a large overstatement. But he did have a unique and easily recognizable voice. Definitiely in the top of tops. My favorites would be other singers than Dio, but would I dare say one is better than the other - no. In anyone's (certainly mine) top 50 the differences are so minute - mainly not about scale or power, rather tembre or emotional load - and they're depending on individual taste. So any way: "no one" -not. I think "no one" would be more in place when talking of singing "Child in Time". BTW - is it easy for you to decide whether you prefer Dio or Tyler singing "Dream On"? I can't decide (though I like Perry's guitar more than Malmsteen's)...

Friday May 15th 1987 - I was invited to the Record Plant by the Man himself. This was the song they were mixing. To this day, one of the greatest experiences & honours I've ever been gifted. Ronnie trusted me enough to allow me to hear one of his songs that was not yet finished, and then have me be the first person outside the band itself to hear it in its finished form. Bless you, Ronnie.

@@thewildbruce5612 Very long story. 21 y/o fanboy in Australia, met Ronnie, Ritchie, Jimmy & Cozy on the 76 Rainbow tour (a part of that story no-one would believe unless they were actually there). 4 years later, Ronnie was back in Sydney with Sabbath. As a budding journalist, I did a long one-on-one interview (the only one he gave on that tour, I believe). We bonded. Whenever I was In LA or he came to Sydney, we always caught up. 1984 at Sound City (rehearsing new songs for Last In Line) - spent a couple of nights there with Ronnie & the band. 86 in Sydney when he toured with Dio. Then in 87 at the Record Plant. Last time we caught up was after the H+H gig in Auckland in 2007. At that point we hadn't seen each other face to face in 20 years. I'd changed a lot, but he immediately recognised me, gave me a huge hug and began chatting about my friend in Brisbane who he'd caught up with the previous night. He was one of a kind.

And a miracle is something you need
    They'll take your diamonds
    And then give you steel
You'll be caught in the middle of the madness
Just lost like them, part of all the pain they feel, yeah
And all the fools sailed away
    All the fools sailed away

I've been listening to Dio since 82. He had a great voice but he is not even close the best singer I've ever heard in my life. Objectively speaking, If I'm to judge a voice by technical skills, that would be Dimash. I don't love most of Dimash's music like I do Dio's, nor is Dimash my favorite singer, but so far Dimash is by far the best singer I've ever heard.
There are good singers, great singers, masters, and then there is Dimash, I call hm the bar, and he keeps raising it.
Every professional singer and or vocal pedagogy that I've seen listen to him say things like "he's not human", "he's an alien", "how is that even possible", ect They often drop their mouth wide open in disbelief.
Sings in 15 languages, so far.
      Plays 7 instruments, so far
      Sings in multiple genres
      Sings using multiple techniques
      His vocal range is C2 - D8 (6 Octaves + 2 Semitones)
Flawless transitions from chest to head (fully connected), to whistle register
His breath control is insane, which allows him to sing these super long (and often super high) notes, weaving in and out of a perfect vibrato at will like it's no sweat.
To top it off he was born with perfect pitch
He's only 29 and still growing as a singer.
Dude worked hard for over 20 years, no doubt, but he's also a genetic anomaly it would seem.
He's so good it just isn't fair.

Dio has such an incredible voice. Such a unique power and tone from someone with his frame. A career and voice that spanned across generations, Dio is one of only a few vocalists to have reached so many. A magical angst reaching deep into your soul. Dio gave his all with every performance. Never losing his magic over all the years. Ronnie James Dio is likely one the most influential vocalists from 80s Metal. Dio earned his place in Metal infamy, not only crafting an unforgettable sound signature to Dio, his LIVE performances can only be described as intense and magical. The 80s were ripe with innovators in the world of Metal music but few can match the influence Dio had overall. From shredding guitar leads, sorcery and glimpses into the recesses of your darkest dreams to the "horns" that are now iconic to metal fans the world over. No one has quite had as BIG an influence on the 80s music scene than Ronnie James Dio. 3 albums are a staple to any 80s vinyl records: "Holy Diver, Last in Line and Sacred Heart" Ironic that the World's First metal Band, Black Sabbath would eventually go on to produce the two Greatest Metal artists that would change the world of music forever. Ozzy & Ronnie James Dio! While I love them both and could NEVER try to compare. They both played an enormous role in paving the way for millions of metal fans all over the globe. God Bless Dio. Rip RJD!!! May your beautiful voice ring out across the Universe forever and ALL time.

@@piratesinmypants No close, From my knowledge of vocal physiology and Bel canto, Dio is another level of vocalist in terms of vocal structure and Ronnie was a master of modern technique open-throated at a very advanced level, master of glottal compression, resistance and control; Dio sang effortlessly throughout virtually his entire vocal range and indeed reached his highest notes in his 60s, his embouchure was perfect and he sang without any resistance to his breathing and without any degree of tension in his facial expressions like Gillan and many singers I've analyzed often perform in times of facial tension and beyond the obvious breath noises. Anyone who has analyzed and studied the singer's entire vocal structure knows that Ronnie James Dio was an extremely virtuous vocalist, very consistent and with a perfect singing style.
