- How to set up the #Arturia #vocoder on the original #MicroFreak:
With the 2.1 firmware update the MicroFreak now has a vocoder. Yes even the original MicroFreak now can do vocoder. Of course you need a microphone and also set up the Arturia MicroFreak the right way. This info is in the manual and in menus.
Let me show you how to do it!

thank you sir, you opened my Microfreak to a whole new sound territory!
Thanks, this is the best Video on UA-cam to Setup my new Micro Freak Vocoder.
I have a Source Audio Hot Hand 3 controller. One of the outputs it provides uses a TRRS jack to provide a pair of motion-controlled 0-3.3V CV outputs. To be able to use it with other devices, I scored a bare TRRS plug and made myself a little breakout box, to separate the tip and one of the rings into separate outputs. A person could do the same thing for the headphone jack, and use one of the isolated contacts to connect up to a small box with your choice of mic jacks for your choice of audio inputs. Heck, include a 1/4" mono jack for plugging any other instrument in as the modulating signal.
Salut Montréal!
Very interesting video starting from a clean init preset and tweaking the important properties of the vocoder. I thought you had the shortcut to initialize a preset (just one) but it doesn't seem to exist.
Most important missing steps from this video:
Press the Utility button, then using the "preset" knob, select Mic Settings and push down on that knob. Then turn knob to selec MIC DETECTION, push down on knob and then turn knob to change to ON.
Then navigate same menu to MIC GAIN and try something high like 50db and test talking low.
You're welcome. 🌈🌈❤
Like the video and how in depth it is. Closed captions would have been fun.
You can always turn on the automatic close captions.
a tip from me if it's useful for anyone. an old IRIG guitar input for ipad/iphone has the right connection and gives you no mic, but it gives you a 1/4 phono female input and room the the headphones as well. that might be easier sometimes. make sure you give it enough gain
How bout that "Noise" oscillator option on the update?
Hello Sir! You forgot to mention how to raise the gain on the microphone 🙂
Apparently you can buy the goose-neck mic, but it won’t ship to the UK (or Canada either, I’m told). However, I’ve now spent all of €10 on a lav mic with trrs- hope that works. Now I just need to find someone with a pc so’s I can update the firmware!
I guess I could have read the manual, but thank you!
Let's be honest with ourselves. Who really reads the manuals for these machines 😂 it's more fun to mess around until something cool happens
Big Thanks for your Video :) I get today my Microfreak and nothings happens 🙈 Now i known what i must do. You made my Day 🙋 One Question, my English is not soo Good. Can i use the Arturia Microphone from the Vocoder Edition? I mean, i can buy this seperatly. This works too? Greetz and Stay Healty :)
Yes it will work with the original MicroFreak.
@@Nu-trix Thank you :) Have a nice Day 🎼🎹🎼
Appreciate it. Its not explained properly in the pamphlet and isn't self-explanatory by any means. It takes a precise wording in a search engine to get even hete. Thanks for the tip. The gooseneck mic is for sale for abour $30 USD.
I downloaded the firmware update and connect the Microfreak to my laptop with usb. But don't see the MF connected to my laptop. can't open the download. What am I doing wrong, or not doing?
Check that you only use an USB cable directly between your Laptop and the MicroFreak (no hub). Open the Arturia MIDI Control center software. In it, select your MicroFreak, Check the actual firmware. If needed click firmware update. It should be ok.
What mic are you using, sounds like there is a hp filter on it?
I’m using the Apple iPhone headphones earbuds.
Nu-Trix The Synth Guy wow that was a fast reply however I meant throughout the whole vid not just the vocoder, perhaps I just can’t see it
Anyway, not finished the vid yet but your great and have earned a sub!
@@cameronpritchard626 It was one of the last videos that I used my Audio Technica Lavalier mic ATR3350. Not so bad for the price. Now I changed for a Audio Technica Pro-70.
Nu-Trix The Synth Guy Ah, thanks, I’m pretty new to microphones so I’m trying to comment and find out about them.
Nice Vid Thanks. I have a Mic that needs phantom power to run (From my mixer). Do you know how I could connect this mic to the MicroFreak to use as its a good one.
It will not work directly into the MicroFreak. You need phantom power and the pin for the mic must be TRRS.
it might take a few adapters, but does your mixer has an aux or send on it? can you take a cable from that send and put it into the freak? a cheap outdated irig phone adapter would work. you would just need a quarter inch instrument cable (not a trs) from the mixer to that
How do get the presets ? Thank
u
They will be included in the Arturia Software center. You can transfer them to the MicroFreak.
For some reason it's not working thanks though
Get to the point dude
