Thanks for that clear explanation. I have one bearing making a noise, the front left one and bought the same kit you have. Now I do not have a press though, but I figure I will make a plan to reinstall that stub axle. Wish me luck!
You could hammer it on with a hammer or use a bench vice with some old sockets, Bongani, but only if you are skilled at this, I suggest you go to your local mechanical workshop and ask them to press it for you, they may charge you a small fee.
@@bonganilejoane358 I managed to simply tap it in carefully using a hammer and large piece of round steel bar, making sure I hit only around the outer ring of the bearing so the rollers would not be damaged. It was surprisingly easy, needed a few sharp taps but no massive force. Just make sure you start off with the bearing square on to the hub and work around the rim as evenly as possible to keep it entering nice and straight.
They changed that hub a little since I had a Fordzda, you could change front disk without removing the bearings, though I guess they did that to get it thinner and easier for the SAMCOR assemblers to put together. Hope you either made a set of marks to get the alignment back as is, or took it for front alignment, as those strut bolts set your front suspension camber and castor, and getting them off will result in uneven tyre wear. Plus one for the press to get them back together, though you can do it with the good old four pounder as well if you are careful, and yes, glitter grease is not a good thing to have, unless it is black moly glitter grease.

Why is it that those mazdas always have a problem with the front wheel bearings I have now had to replace mine now 3 times in a space of 2 years .... people tell me it's a common problem on these cars ..... could it be the way its put in or what ... . Would love to hear back from you ... where are you situated?
What i have done is the following, bought a PQ169 bearing asked the engineering to cut the HUB and STUB AXLE to the size of the bearing and also cut a groove in the STUB AXLE for a CIRCLIP and press the bearing into the hub and it works like a charm!
Morning , hope you're well. What would be a good brand of wheel bearing to buy for a 96 Mazda 323 160i? The sales person mentioned that these cars have a bearing problem so it won't matter if I use SKF or Partquip, both will have issues after months
Thanks for the great video. It was a bit harder doing it than watching you do it😂. But I managed and it's working great. Do you have any advice on how to check gearbox oil on this car? (Manual box) Thanks!
In front of the gearbox there is a 24mm bolt that needs to be loosened and removed, With the car level add manual gear oil until it overflows, then put the bolt back, and make sure the washer stays in place.
Hello Gary. Trust you are well. Quick question - is there anyway to remove the brake rotor disk without removing the driveshaft nut to pull out the drive shaft from the hub ? My rotors are warp and I am planning on having them skimmed. Appreciate any feedback, thx
Hi Nico, I am assuming we are talking about a Mazda 323, if so, unfortunately, no, to remove the brake discs, one has to remove the entire bearing hub and most of the time the bearings as well, as it tends to get damaged when removing the discs, alternately there are guys that would come to your location and skim the discs on the car, this is a great saving. I hope this info helps. Gary
@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Hi Gary. Yes it is a Mazda 323. On car skimming will then be my solution. Your videos and advise is always helpful and appreciated, thank you very much.
@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Hi Gary. If I may ?? Just an update, rotors was skimmed today and brake shudder is gone!! Car`s brakes is perfect. Done by Graaf Brakes up here on the East Rand of Gauteng. Cost ?? R200, I kid you not :)
I have done exacly the same, the only problem i have is whem i tighten the axle nut. The wheel doesnt turn anymore, the little ring between the bearings is fitted. Mazda demio 1.

Some guy told me not to tighten the nut too tight, as it can damage wheel bearings because this cars wheel bearings is weak... is it better to use a torque wrench to tighten the nut? If so how much torque is needed?

How else to put it in if you do not have a presser?

I never had any issues with SKF bearings ever but plenty with Partquip, that is my experience.

Great, those are both excellent brands

Howzit buddy have you ever done the shock replacement on a 323 it doesn't have the Allen key to loose the top shock mount
A long, long time ago, Juan, I think it has a flattened bit on the tip of the shock that could be held with a vice grips.

Thanks, Cedric, I am learning all the time.
Why did you used the packaging crease cause I heard many people recommend Castrol crease
Because it was formulated to work with that bearing.

What causes the friction after putting in your bearing? The bearing and outer CV joint become unbearingly hot and then the bearing breaks.
