    This video is from our time living in Arizona and our channel was known as "Arizona Dreamz". We have since moved to the Midwest . New state, new channel name! We no longer make AZ content, but focus on family vlogs of our life in Michigan.

    When we moved to AZ, our rental had a pool. Our current house in South Gilbert does not have one. One reason we weren't too concerned is during the summer when it is the hottest, they are basically bathtub water because they stay at 90+ degrees for the water. Pools are expensive as well even when you do all the maintenance yourself. I was spending about 200 dollars a month just on maintaining the pool myself, without considering the extra electric cost of just the pool pump/cleaning systems, this was an older pool so did take a bit more work. My wife is now pushing for a pool again so we may end up building one at our current house but still in discussions.
    Another con is that a pool attracts critters like snakes, scorpions and the like as they are searching for water. Scorpions can live up to 14 days completely submerged as well. Had to kill scorpions on a nightly basis around the pool. With living close to San Tan Mountain myself, we see snakes a lot as well and if your back yard is not snake proofed it will find them in your pool sometimes as well.

      Really appreciate the info. Helps us with the decision making process. We've had our fair share of scorpions at a previous house with no pool, so not really looking forward to that. Don't think the wife wants to hear about snakes. lol

    Did you ever consider an above ground pool?
    This way it’s affordable and if you like it you can upgrade when your kids get older.
    Sign up for swimming lessons for everyone in the family!

    I have a 20k gallon pool here in Phoenix and it's literally zero maintenance and almost no cost to run it all year long, may be except little overhead cost for electricity for those who doesn't have a solar panels. If you can buy a house you definitely can invest couple grand into pool automation. Computerized salt water chlorine generator, muriatic acid dispenser, variable speed pump and remote monitoring through your smartphone. That's what I did last year. We've been through heatwaves and dust/rain thunderstorm recently, no algae whatsoever. It's all myths spread by pool maintenance agencies. Cannot imagine not having a pool guys. Funny story, when I was on the market after my dream house, almost all of my friends were like "don't go pool, you not gonna use it, running cost etc..." all the common stereotypes. Now they want to come to my house every day just to have a pool party. I live and work from my pool, in fact writing this from my pool, naked with two naked girls.

    A hint on how to keep your pool cool without chillers is to run an aerator - it is basically a fountain in the form droplets that shoots high and falls back on water surface while being cooled in mid air. It comes in the standard package with almost all pools out there.

    Nice video. My wife and i are back and forth on the pool idea also. We currently rent but plan to buy next year. We have a community pool which we have used a few times but its usually crowded. So we found a 10' x 30" pool that has a small pump included. We set it up on friday and its perfect to relax and cool off in. Regular cost is $80 but was on sale for $25 at Frys. I put a canopy over it so we wont bake in the sun while using it. When summer is over we will take it down and store until next summer. Unless we end up buying a house wit a pool hahaha

    We got the kids an above pool and they where in it almost every day but to keep it clean its a pain.
    I Recommend a small air pool with a shade canopy for the day. We also got our dog a little baby pool she loves it.
    We dont have any splash pad close to us but it's great for an outing to get out of the house and only a drive away.

    Nice video. My wife and I are currently having our house built in STV and will be building a pool as well. We currently have a pool and can relate to the cost of maintenance as well as cost to repair. We do have a home warranty that covers the cost to repair the pool equipment and have used it over the years to replace our pump, heater and spa blower, each time costing us $75 for the deductible. All things considered the home warranty is well worth the annual cost of about $500 per year because all major components of the home are covered including appliances. As for weekly maintenance, we take a water sample to the local pool store, they test it for me and tell me what if any chemicals I need. I purchase chlorine tabs in bulk, about $100 every two years and weekly shock at about $4.50 per pound (bag) 2 bags weekly, depending on the size of your pool, 1-2 bags. Average time I spend on my pool maintenance weekly is about 30-60 minutes. Is it worth it? For my wife andI it is, this is why we are building our pool in the Valley of the Sun. Thanks for the video!

      @@LivinOurDreamz - Thank you for the information that you provide. My wife and I thought long and hard about our decision to make Arizona our new home. Coming from SoCal was kind of a big decision for us as we are nowhere near retirement age but we are fortunate enough to have a home that we can sell to make this happen. Also the prospect of building a new home on an acre lot was very appealing. Needless to say we are very excited and a little nervous at the same time. Hopefully we'll start seeing more information/videos on STV as I see most people are looking at Chandler/Gilbert. For whatever reason STV isn't on too many peoples list and that's ok with us as we list the semi ruralness of the area that we are buying. Again, thank you for the work that you put into your videos, I know that these take a lot of your time but it also shows how proud you are of the Valley of the Sun. On last thing, if you ever get around to do a video of any side by side trail videos that would be great. Thanks Again!

    We have a community pool within walking distance from the house. Good option so that you don't have to maintain it yourself but the HOA dues cover the heating and cleaning costs.
    But I can really relate to the Mrs because it's easy to get cabin fever here in the summer.
    When your boys get older, you will probably feel much more safe with a pool, unless you have frequent visitors who have small children.

    • @LivinOurDreamz
      @LivinOurDreamz  4 роки тому

      Yes, it will probably not be so frightening with older children and continued swimming lessons. Right now having a pool nearby to go to this Summer helped a lot, even if it wasn’t as convenient as I would have liked. (~the Mrs.)

    I read a lot of the comments but not all of them, but I did not see any mention to the cost of the water. The water you put in there doesn't stay there. There's splashing and evaporation and you need to top off the water quite frequently. My grandma had a pool at her Scottsdale house and she was always yelling at me when I'd splash too much water out lol. She had the hose in it at least twice a week just topping off the water level. Then every couple of years she would need to have it resurfaced which would require draining it and then refilling it again once the work was finished. Not a pleasant water bill. As for the water temps, I was in that pool every single day during the summer and it never really felt like bath water, although my grandma's pool was in the shade for half of the day. I stopped using the pool around the time I was 13.

    • @LivinOurDreamz

      The water bill is definitely something to consider. I don’t think we even thought about that one.

My girls and I occasionally wear box braids and braided protective styles. Living in the midwest I am always able to find someone to do our curly/kinky hair. Knowing that Arizona isn't as diverse, is it hard to find a salon or people who are able to style curly/kinky hair? Specifically braids, protective styles and weaves?

    Hey you guys.......but there are all those months when the temperature is in the high 70's and 80's even low 90's that is perfect for enjoying the pool. But good to know........I definitely want a pool, but would rather buy with the pool already built. I've had a pool before, and rather enjoy the cleaning and chemical maintenance. I find it therapeutic vacuuming the pool and testing for chemical balance. Pools are enjoyable, for me.

    • @LivinOurDreamz
      @LivinOurDreamz  5 років тому

      The weather hits you different here with the low humidity. So the 70s and 80s just don’t feel as warm here as it would somewhere with more humidity. Plus I think people are so used to being fried from the high temps, anything below 90 feels chilly. Lol

    Recently moved here to Arizona from GA, and having a pool was a priority for my wife and I, and yes we invested in pool maintenance, which is around $99/mth and never had any green issues, pool stays clear all year. Thinking about going to salt. Community pools are disgusting, have you noticed how many people don't get out to use bathroom. Having your own oasis in your backyard is so worth it I feel even if you only decide to use it twice a year...

      During our research, we read that people were paying about $10-50 extra on average for the water to fill up an empty pool and didn’t notice a change except when draining and refilling. One person said they lost about 1/4 cup of water per day. Not sure how it affects the electric bill.

    Arizona Dreamz
    - is it hard to keep pools cool. i would think with the endless sun beating down on the pools in arizona it would feel like a bathtub after a month.

      Yes, bathwater pools are a thing here. Some people get pool chillers to drop the temps by several degrees. You can always put in fountains which is also supposed to lower the water temperature.

    Hello guys..interesting video. I tell people when they're bored read a book. If you don't know how to swim, you don't need a pool period..Make friends with your neighbors and go "Dip your Feet" in their pool...lol ..a simple solution..and you save lots of MONEY

    You might want to check out the pool company that is doing your work. Check there track record. People get ripped off.

    You know you don't have a built-in pool you can buy a portable inflatable pool from the store and just have that

      @LivinOurDreamz  4 роки тому

      Yes, we have talked about possibly just doing that.
