@@LivinOurDreamz Also, adapt. Like, park in the shade. Park facing East so your windshield isnt getting blasted. If you are chatting outside, seek shade. Even a little but helps.
Lived here all my 38 years. The heat doesn't bother me. After it gets over 105 degrees, it all feels the same to me. The cold is what I can't handle. I have my AC set to 81, and often find myself under 2 blankets lol
We have gotten more sensitive to cooler weather since living here. The 70s is sweatshirt time. Maybe a jacket. Lol

I moved here 3 months ago. The heat is real. But bearable since there isn't much humidity. Just make the move, if you're thinking about it. ✈️✈️✈️

This is our first summer in the valley. It is HOT but still so much better than the Midwest winters and humid summers we left.
Glad you feel the tradeoffs are worth it. I think that’s how a lot of people get through...thinking about the alternatives.
Husband is right. You can't just sit inside until the weather gets "nice" again. In the Spring and Fall it may get hot during the afternoon, but it is 65-70 when you wake up in the morning and gradually warms up. Does the same thing in the evening, but in reverse- gorgeous patio temps. If you stay inside you are missing alot of nice weather. Even with that being said- June / July/August are oppressive.

zero degree temps we used to get when we lived in Wisconsin. We were in Yuma a couple of weeks ago and it was 122..... a sauna. You're not complaining Mrs. Dreamz! I totally get you! Mr. Dreamz, I am with you, once I it hits 110. I'm like "Ok....too hot now."
It’s hot, but no going back to the freezing temps. We just gotta suck it up for a few months and dream of October / November. Lol

You have a really nice family. I'm stuck in miserable Toronto, Canada. In Canada you have the choice of moving to where it's cold...or where it's colder. I hate it! People are pretty cold in Canada (that's for sure). It's super expensive to live here too. In 1988-89. I got my opportunity to move to Southern California for a year. Loved the heat, loved the people (Americans are the best!), and the cost of living was reasonable. A little known fact: Canada had it's chance to annex Turks and Caicos Islands and blew it. The thought of a Canadian territory in the Caribbean didn't seem to be particularly appealing to government. Now the opportunity is gone.
Southern Californa is perfect not too hot like Az.
Can't wait until I move out to Arizona in 2021. My family and friends have told me to think of the summer as you would to the winter here in Chicago ( Winter's are longer it starts in December/ January and ends in late April or early May.) Hunker down, only go out to work, shopping or anything else because like winter you will adjust.
Sorry Mrs. Dreams I am a fan of the heat and have been out to Arizona 3 times so far in September, May and August. Love the heat because my arthritis pain and asthma do not effect me out there. If I get tired of the heat I can go up to Payson. I'll trade in the humidity and dew point in Chicago as well. I'll have to adjust to no spring ahead and fall back. It's been super dry in Chicago as well this year.

I'm moving to Arizona from Chicago in 2021 also. I'll be ok with the heat because we're buying a house with a pool. We had a pool here but got very little use out of it. Summers are short in Chicago.
When you accept it as “wintertime” it’s easier to deal with hibernating for awhile. But if you’re liking the heat, you’ll have a nice transition to desert life. Always appreciate your comments and thanks for watching!
Pete Brown I will not miss the day light saving time when I move to Arizona. I rather have the heat then humidity.
I agree with your wife -- the heat/breeze TOTALLY feels like a hair dryer on your face!! Moved from CO to AZ this May and it's nearly October and just now under triple digits! Did not realize 5 months of such extreme heat. As you said, record temperatures this summer (and smoke with TONS of brush fires!!) and everyone says that's the new normal with all the growth/development/concrete and it will only continue/worsen. oh and YES to the pool!!!

I toaltly agree with what you said about the snow. I'm from northern Wyoming living now in Congress Az. Back home I did not go out for about 6 months. Here I can get things done in the morning and stay inside in the afternoon.
I'm back after 43 years. The heat hasn't bothered me as much as I thought it would. I remember 118° in our very shady back yard. If it's hotter, it's probably because of so much more concrete and black top. Since I'm not able to get out and drive around, I'm loving your videos.

I've been living here for 8 years, and this summer somehow feels - it's too much indeed. We used to have massive monsoon rainfalls by this time already. But the good news is that it's only about 3 months of hell - to enjoy 9 months of heaven.

I’m from Indiana and we’re planning a our first trip to Arizona/Grand Canyon. I appreciate your sharing with us how you feel about your dealing with the temperatures there. It will help us plan and prepare in advance for the heat. Being half Mexican, I will for the first time be in the area of my ancestors. Who knows, maybe we’ll bring some rain your way.

If you want to hear an opion from a miserable person who can't wait to get out of here. Here goes. I've lived all over the country and summer here is way worse than winter anywhere. I've lived in places with bad winter's too. I'd much rather walk in the cold than the heat. I can't cool my oven garage right now but I could heat my garage with a cheap space heater and work on projects in the dead of winter in freezing temps. I'm not here by choice. I'm here temporary for my spouses job. I can't find anything positive about this heat. I'm about to pass out after 15 min in it. I have never done well in heat. I have fainted a few times in the heat so I do think some people have better genetics for heat or for cold and mine are definitely better suited living in cold temps. So I don't think it's something I can ever adjust to. I try and I just come in about to pass out putting ice packs all over my head and neck and drinking tons of ice water. Also it's really expensive to cool your house, much more expensive than heating a house.
Watching this now from Boulder CO! I can open my window and it feels as if I turned my AC on! It's amazing! We get Sunshine every day but it doesn't rain much!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the heat!!! I’m moving back to AZ next month and I’m super excited I DESPISE the winter!!!!! When I lived there last year, the heat honestly didn’t bother me that much.

It's just HOT! No cold water in the summer. Basically, I have adjusted to going from home/ ac, to car/ac etc. I agree with you all. Yes!! I'm encouraging you to get your son a pool!!
I agree with her, I couldn't get used to the heat. When it gets in the 90's I start migrating north. I spend my Winters in Yuma.
On July 15th 2003 I remember it was 115 for the high and mostly cloudy and windy in the evening. The morning low was 96. Which was one of the warmest low temperatures on record.
I live in the white mountains between Showlow and Concho. We hit 106 so far today. We live without AC. It is cooler to be outside in the shade. Drink lots of water and try not to do any work.
I’m the same way. I could handle the heat to about 110. After that it’s a little sweaty. I remember once when I was taking to trash bags out to the dumpster in the afternoon and before I got to the dumpster the tops melted off lol. I also had a hard time with how warm it stayed during the night.
Were moving there soon. I'm used to hot summers 105 in CA but nothing like that. My ultimate place to live is on the ca coast. The best weather to me in America
The worst thing is the hot wind. That’s what freaks people out the most. However this year is unseasonably cool for august.

Living here my whole you understand fast that it's not fun being outside during the summer. I go out during the morning or at night. If I do have to go out during the day I always bring water and use sunscreen.
My father's family came her from Chicago area in 1947, after WWII. He hated the cold/snow and his father needed a dryer climate for his health.
As a kid, I had no idea that it was freaking hot here. I was in high school before I realized it was uncomfortable here. I spent my life working construction so I have had my share of it.
I never got used to it. In fact, the older I got, the more I complained.
If you worked inside, it would be no problem. You live in an air conditioned house and drive to air conditioned buildings so you are only exposed for a few minutes in the parking lot :)
You learn to adapt by parking in the shade and standing in the shade if you are outside.
If you have a pool with shaded areas around it, you can comfortably spend some time outdoors.
My bottom line is, I'd take Phoenix over the humid South any day. 70 degrees and humid is far worse for me than 100, breezy and dry. Ive been comfortably working in my back yard landscaping from 5AM until 11AM and it is still nice enough.

I prefer heat over cold.....I lived in the Sonoran desert my whole life, its gets pretty cold here too...I just moved to Simi Valley tho, like 20 min drive to los angeles,its feels perfect here...constantly in the 70s

this was a great video and realistic talk about the heat. Love your kids. I've been here 6 years and once before for 10 years. Although this past year was extra hot for length of time... it started with over 100 in May. But... I remember a few years back when we had 115+ for like 30 days altogetther. The heat IS doable and you do adjust. Your wife is right though - having long loose pants IS cooler than shorts in the heat of the day - that is why the gardners are fully covered. I personally would never willingly go back to cold.
I live in Prescott Valley and this is the dryest year i can ever remember. Ive lived all over Arizona for most of my life (36 years) and its obviously getting hotter and dryer. Yet this past winter was one of the coldest and snowiest! Spring was cold and came late. Welcome to global warming. Because of La nina we will likely have a warm dry winter and it may last all through 2021...but in general global warming doesnt mean just hotter...it means more extreme weather all over the world. Its just getting started so be prepared! Great video, loved watching you and your wife banter😁

Thinking it if reverse winter is perfect. We got lucky this year with a very mild summer especially compared to 2020. That was a brutal summer. 2021 only had a handful of days over 110 degrees. You also definitely get somewhat use to it over the years. It still blows.
Humidity and cold u can't get away from.. hot can be controlled by mist...
My niece that I visit who moved from Michigan to Arizona almost 21years now can't get use to Arizona heat.
It's all about how you can handle the heat. If people survive in South Florida they can make it in Phoenix without a problem. Miami is located about 550 miles further south which means the sun intensity is higher but the biggest issue is the very high humidity. There's no humidity like that in the southwest. Im not saying summer in Phoenix feels a lot nicer than summers in Miami but if it's so unbearable like some people like to claim in on UA-cam nobody would want to live there . 1.7 million people live in Phoenix I assume they can handle the heat. Millions of people live where it freezes for months too like I mentioned earlier it's all about how you can handle extreme temperatures.
I moved here from antelope valley, ca. It was hot up there.. but it always was cool in the morning and cool at evening/night and we had a breeze that normally felt nice I thought okay the temps in az seem to only be 3-5 degrees hotter I can handle it., and nope.. I can’t handle it. Their is no breeze and when their is it’s not a nice one .. and it’s hot from like 9am till 11pm I’m not used to it never letting up. I’ve only lived here a month and I’m kinda sad about the weather, moved up here for my husbands medical program so only need to live here 3 years till he’s done but we will see.. i have to give it a full year before I come to a real answer on how I feel .. Peoria seems nice tho so far for families (I have 2 kids) so that is great!

Phoenix is humid, definitely not dry. Especially during the monsoon season in the summer
My friend moved to Arizona a couple a years ago. It took her a while to get used to the heat. When I visited Phoenix Arizona early last September 2019 and it was a 100 plus. I remember walking out of Phoenix sky harbor airport and went WOW it felt like a oven but with humidity that Michigan would get on top of it would be even worse.
Humidity definitely adds an extra layer of misery.

In Australia you get used to the hot weather (in Summer) but some days can be crazy 10 degrees cooler or more and then the next day hot.
Yes, we noticed that at night it's still hot but am ready to move now. We love it out there. I agree, with the Mrs I don't have to be out in it as long as I have a/c am good I will buy a portable a/c if I have to. I rather deal with dry heat anyday & not with freezing temps & yes I have fallen on ice & scraping snow off the car window no thx not for me.
A/C makes everything better. Lol A portable one is a good idea as a backup.

Yesterday in Phoenix, I fainted in my yard after drinking from my water bottle. I fell on ground & both my knees are cut up. I'm still dizzy today.
This is my 3rd summer here. Moved here at the first of July, 2018.
2018 had a great Monsoon Season.
2019 had a late starting summer and hardly any Monsoonal moisture.
This year had an early summer, heat all summer, and a Nonsoon.
Swamp coolers work great in May and into June. But I use only my central AC for the rest of the summer because it's just too hot.
When I first moved here in the summer of 2018 and went into my backyard, I thought what on earth have I done?
The first summer is roughest for a lot of people. Lol Interesting to hear about the swamp coolers. We were curious how well they did during the hottest parts of the Summer.

I agree with the Mrs...I am tired of the snow but I am so ready for the sunshine but I also believe the only way to get with it is to get out in it...2yr count down leaving the Midwest behind...love your videos trying to find my location is the hardest part...I think I am in one location looking for homes i am in another location...I think I will have to get a realtor
110 hot to get inside 76 , 34 degree diff. 10 degrees cold to get inside 68 , 58 degree diff.

Fire Starter Hey! Congrats! Against many peoples advice due to cost, I landed in Scottsdale. This was only based on the job I secured and schools. The other areas researched was Tempe, Peoria and Goodyear!
Was in Tucumcari New Mexico one summer traveling....got out the car and my tennis shoes started melting to the pavement. Hottest I ever experienced. I think it was like 119 or so that day.
If you have a pool you'd have to have a chiller for the summer. I didn't even know that was a thing until recently. My sis in law lives in pheonix with a pool and they don't use it in the hottest months because it's too hot it's not refreshing
Love the heat work in Yuma on base. Worked in Tucson and Ft. Huachuca love the heat. Way better then the east coast humidity and midwestern cold weather. Just have plenty of water when out in the heat.

One more thing, for walking on ice, you just wear Max Trax over your shoes and you won't slip. I just bundle up and to me that is more comfortable than summer here. I can go for a walk in freezing temps but I can't walk over 100 not even in the 90s. I don't see many people out in the heat here either. It's like ghost town in my neighborhood when it's 110 out. And even if that is the equivalent of a blizzard we've had over 40 blizzards this summer then.
It does become a ghost town around here during the hot months.
I see how you can just reheat your food by leaving it outside in a cage. They should invent a sun powered oven to take advantage of the heat. Is it just great for solar energy? All houses should have solar panels
I think I could adjust but I'm not sure my kids could live without the ocean that is all we do in thw summer. But it is so tempting

Hot summer in Michigan. Its August and still 80 plus degrees here.. my lawn is dry and burning up.
August and still 80 lol. That's why we're moving there. On the Gulf Coast we don't even get 80 for the low in summer with 100% humidity. Every night everything is soaking wet then the sun comes out to make it worse.

Back in 1980' some lithuanian men were in Afghanistan (as part of Soviet Union military in this country). Those, who were deployed in Kabul were more lucky, but the weather in Southern Afghanistan (Kandahar) was brutal

I live in Maine our summers have bad humidity. Hoping to move to Arizona i have experienced the dry heat before it was at 110 and liked it.

I live up in the beautiful white mountains Az. It has been hotter than normal. I've been thinking about moving down to the valley of the sun , listening to the both of you I'm gonna have to rethink about moving 🤔 the expression of your kids face has me 😂 laughing. Guys, I shouldn't live in Southern AZ at my age and get bumped off by a heat stroke!. I'm like Mr Arizona, I love the outdoors. They'll find me outside burned to a turn! It's a tad bit too hot in summer for a senior. I'd have to go further north. But I heard someone say this recently, referring to these pandemic times. "Where you are today is where you will stay"! I believe that! So my dream of desert living is on pause anyways. Thanks for the chat!
Yep, a lot of moving / travel dreams have been put on pause during this craziness. We aren’t seniors yet, but living up North during the Summer would be the perfect scenario for us!
Do you guys turn on the air conditioning all the time? Does it cool down at night? I m afraid of blackout and people dying from heat
We were thinking of moving to a retirement community in the Phoenix area like Anthem. We currently live in Sacramento, CA where it gets hot during the summer but it usually cools off at night with cool delta breezes. So it doesn't cool off at night and the breezes are hot there in the Phoenix area? Ugh. We may have to look at northern Arizona like Prescott or Flagstaff instead?
It's probably getting hotter because there's more concrete to absorb the heat. That alone will raise the nighttime lows, and that means that normal daytime heating will result in higher temps.
I’m sure that’s a huge factor.
Does it help if a house is made of rock or double layer bricks like they do in Australia which helps to insulate the house from the heat in the summer? Are there any double brick houses in Arizona? Is there earthquake? If not, double layer brick or rock house would help with the heat

I definitely wouldn't suggest someone from a Midwest state or cool state to move to phoenix.
Lived in Tucson 10 years. Moved to Florida but have not experienced hurricanes yet.

We used to visit Florida every year when we lived in Ohio. We talked about moving there at one time, but the hurricanes made us a little nervous.
Honestly, heat has never really bothered me. Days that around ~115 I try to avoid going outside much because it starts to feel like your skin is being burned immediately, but even then I don't dread temperatures like that. I know how to keep cool.
On the other hand, I DO dread temperatures that are less than like... 65 degrees. I despise the cold.
I am thinking about moving to OKC or Phoenix, and I am a cold weather guy. I am leaning towards Pheonix mainly because the diversity and there is a lot more beautiful women in Phoenix than OKC.
You also have the yearly Tornadoes and cold winters in OKC (it was -11 last week) not to mention all the rainy days. It also gets 110 in OKC plus the humidity.
I just moved to AZ and whenever I tell people I just moved out here they say just wait until the summer

I believe you get used to it. You either want to live in Arizona or you don’t. Learn when to hike or go to the park. Use some common sense. The spring and fall are spectacular. Everything is air conditioned. Take care of your car because there are specific heat issues for a car so you don’t get stranded. Shop early. It doesn’t last forever.

If you are considering moving here from California, the heat is unbearable. You won't like it at all! Go to Nevada Utah or Texas.
We better adapt. Keep in mind the Sun is ever expanding and so the temp on Earth will slowly continue to rise. Of course, we're talking a LONG LONG time. NASA says a few hundred million years.....But then times flies.

Arizona I never been to phoenix in the summer but I don't want to go then because the heat and the sun is trying to kill you. And, you need ac to survive

I was single When I move to Phoenix 8 yrs ago, but now I am seriously considering moving to Texas or Florida for my two boys, 2 and 4 yrs old. Here, hotter and longer summer each year, my kids can’t go outside play at all, no mention boating, fishing, hiking...Now because of the COVID-19 mostindoor playground closed, that just make kids nowhere to go during such terrible summer.
It’s been a difficult summer for our kids as well (more than usual because of Covid and being stuck in the house). The hot weather can definitely be a huge con for a lot of people.

Yes. Sedona, Flagstaff, Prescott, Payson are popular day trips to see the Fall colors.

Before I moved here I used to ponder that all the time.......now that I live here I wish I never would've listened to the heat pundits because I wasted so many years NOT being in Arizona.
Are the summers that bad ? not at all.
For the people complaining ask yourself....if its that bad why don't they leave?
People who do leave always come back and if they don't come back Arizona will always be on their mind.
When I moved from a city ( and I've lived all over the country ) I never looked back from the city I left from.....but notice anything that says Arizona how many people from other areas comment on it.
If where you moved to is so much better.......why concern yourself with Arizona ?
