I lived in Phoenix area for 19 years. I have never seen a coral snake or a rattle snake in the city. Yes they are outside of the populated area. the same with a lot of other critters. However scorpions are everywhere.Just spray your back yard once or twice a year and you wont have any problems. Hire a professional. Don't be afraid of critters. Be afraid of crazy drivers from ... you know where...LOL. Don't be afraid of wild life. You don't bather them, they don't bather you. You may even enjoy looking at them. You pull in your driveway and a rabbit will jump from a bush. Coyotes and Foxes on golf courses, you get the idea. Beautiful Arizona.
I’ve lived in AZ my entire life (29 years) from Phoenix, Glendale and now Peoria. Never seen a snake or scorpion in or around any houses I’ve been in. Saw one scorpion at a friends house in a new development and he just stepped on it to kill it. Other wildlife I’ve seen... the random coyote here or there and a shit ton of pigeons.
How did you like Glendale? My plan is to transfer out that way in April-July 2020. I'm just starting to look at apartments. Glendale seems to be around what I'm paying for rent here in KY.
did you go hiking and stuff though? i love hiking I want to hike the trails/mountains once I move to AZ I am just a little nervous about the bugs i might run in to. i have no idea what to expect. do people wear certain clothing to hike out there? to reduce risk of bites?
Venomous, not poisonous.Sorry to be that guy but you have to ingest something for it to be poisonous. Snakes are venomous.I'll see myself out.Great video though.
Been in AZ for 27 years. I've seen 4 scorpions. And 2 were already dead. Snakes? No. Maybe one or two. Caught one. NON-poisonous. But all in all. NO BUGS! NO SNAKES> No nothing! I love it here!
I notice not one of these videos people are posting about AZ critters never mention LIZARDS. I remember always seeing them running around my grandmothers house. They ones that get in are pretty tiny & move very fast.
Chickens love to eat scorpions! Chickens will eat black widows, and the cockroaches to a chicken are like M&M candies to an eight-year-old kid! I have not seen a single rattlesnake in the 22 years that I have been here. In my neighborhood, bats come out at dusk, and are voracious flying bug eaters! Another great, and practical blog of yours, well done!!
No, don't let your cats outside! They'll become coyote or owl food. Cats are actually super helpful at alerting us indoors when there's a scorpion in the house so we don't step on them and get stung.
I just got stung by a scorpion a few weeks ago. It hurt like heck and the area was numb for several days. But I talked to a nurse over the phone and didn’t need to go to the hospital. Most healthy adults should be ok. But if you’re allergic to stings or bites or a child, it could be a lot more serious. I’ve talked to several people who’ve been stung multiple times and were ok.
Arizona Dreamz cool. Thanks for all the info. Was out in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area in December. Stayed at the Camelback Resort, beautiful area. Love the sporting venues. Both Talking Stick and Gila Arena are awesome.
If you keep your place outside web free that will keep the scorpions down. Also, no wood piles, keep palm trees with no palm frawns as they live in them also. Large roaches like the palm frawns also.
As a healthcare worker I heard of more snake bites back east than here. I've been here since '05 never saw a scorpion, snake, havalina since I've lived here. I've always lived in the urban areas. On the edge of town is where the critters are.
Great video, Thanks so much for answering my question! Not sure if you said "you may have to lose a cat" but I'm am not looking forward to losing my cat due to a scorpion lol . Thanks again!
No problem. I probably made the “losing a cat” thing sound much worse then it is. The fur from a cat is good protection from scorpion stings and cats are usually too quick to get stung. It does happen but it’s rare. Your cat should be fine. Lol Thanks again for tuning in!
How are the killer bees? I'm allergic so just wondering if you see them often and how aggressive they are. I'm looking at possibly moving into the north scottsdale area.
It really depends on where you live. Some neighborhoods have issues with scorpions, etc. and some don’t. That’s the case in any city around here. I don’t know if Chandler has them worse than other cities.
My cats just eat Scorpions. I was sweeping the floor a few weeks back by the front door and found a stinger and some legs. We've seen about 6 Scorpions in the house in the last 15 months. Most of the time I use a paper towel and grab them and flush them.
Not gonna lie. Scorpions are my biggest critter concern in Arizona. Especially with young kids who are used to running around barefoot indoors and out here in Maryland.
Gilbert can definitely be a hotspot for scorpions. Lots of communities build on farmland which is where scorpions tend to be concentrated. We've had scorpions at every house, though some neighborhoods are worse than others.
I live in the central valley of california and everything that you have mentioned we have here and common sense says 95% of the time you leave them alone or stear clear of them and they will stear clear of you. I haven't seen the beetle that you are talking about though. I will keep and eye out for them when I move there
Thanks to insectek I haven’t seen not one scorpion in five years! when we first moved into our home in Scottsdale it was infested I would kill two or three daily. I would recommend insectek to all my family and friends!
I wish I could give you some advice, but farming is not my area of expertise. There's several youtube videos out there of people who have started farms in the desert so you might want to look into those.
Don’t know how common horseflies are. Mosquitos come out during the rainy monsoon season. It can be more prevalent depending on where you live (Gilbert had quite the problem with them last Summer). My wife (who is prone to mosquito bites) swears she’ll never live by a lake again. Once we moved, she really wasn’t too bothered by them anymore. Obviously standing water brings on the mosquitos.
Me and my boyfriend are planning a move from northern minnesota to tuscon az pretty soon here and my worst fear is spiders. Do you have any advice on areas where there is less of them and how to keep them minimal?? And how often you actually encounter them. Ive heard you have to shake out your clothes and shoes every time you use them 😭
I don’t know about the good/bad areas in Tucson for spiders. My best advice is to hire a good exterminator, as many people do here. If you will be in an apartment, they should be already spraying. I’ve never had much of an issue with spiders. Scorpions on the other hand were the big problem for me. A spraying service took care of it.
AZ seems such an interesting place to live but man... My wife (and I of course) would freak if we ever come across a scorpion, in our house !! lol We don't see scorpions all around like this back here in BR. Anyway, AZ seems a nice place to live. (Plus: the heat wouldn't be a problem either lol)
Getting a company to spray monthly does wonders regarding the scorpions and other pests. And if you don’t mind the heat, you’ve already conquered one of the biggest complaints people have here. Lol
I believe so, but there may be certain snakes you can’t so I would double check. I’ve heard about people eating scorpions here. One family who does that was in a news story.
Are there lizards? I'm moving to Phoenix next year from Florida - we have tons of lizards always running around here, so I'm curious. Your videos have been helping me so much! Thanks!
Yes we do have little lizards here. I see them in my backyard sometimes. Not sure how the numbers compare to Florida, but you probably will come across them. Thanks for watching and glad the videos have been helpful!
Wrenchettes iive in FL and I want out. I also wish to move to AZ. Florida is fun at first but after 3 years you just want out. People are rude and dumb here and it's dangerous too. Personally I live a great life in Florida but it's not really my passion as is Arizona. Consider it.

Was it hard to adjust to move and weather? And different animals? And what area is not heavily populated? Looking for small towns 2,000 or less.
Arizona has many small towns , with a easy drive to a bigger town.
Look on a map of Arizona.
In Florida we find small scorpions and large spider inside the home during the summertime.
U can actually cook the scorpions in some olive oil and it's a good snack..
I got stung by a Scorpion. Not fun. We spray every month now.
