    You guys are so cute! I love your videos. We just moved out here from the suburbs of Chicago to Gilbert. We are a family of five too. We were sticker shock at the cost of homes here. We couldn’t believe we even had to go up $10k for our home and we were even out bid sometimes! Registering our cars was also a big expense too. I would also add to another myth in Arizona is there is no greener.

    • @LivinOurDreamz
      @LivinOurDreamz  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, the car registration costs were a punch to the gut. Yikes! And there being no greenery here is definitely a popular myth. We even talked about that for the video, but cut it for time. We already had gone way longer than we planned!

    Great job busting the myths and delivering a much needed message about doing research and having realistic expectations. I think many just try to move (anywhere, not just AZ) without a solid plan because they really want to move. I was chomping at the bit, too, but for over a year, I researched everything heavily - jobs, maps, crime maps, housing, cost of living, weather patterns, culture, local news.... everything I could think of. Then I came out to find a place to live 4 months ahead of time during the summer, and I drove all over the east valley - deliberately during rush hour twice. Just to get a sense of what it’s like here. One still can’t know all the nuances, but the research can help make a better experience, or at least avoid a bad one.

    • @LivinOurDreamz
      @LivinOurDreamz  4 роки тому

      We wish everyone was so thorough with the planning process. It would save a lot of heartache for sure. But you are right, sometimes the strong desire to move makes people skip a few steps!

    Moved to Phoenix area 4 years ago from Oklahoma. The mosquitoes almost ate me alive in San Tan Valley. We moved to Mesa last year and don’t notice them as much. I have seen a javelina in Fountain Hills in daytime, and more than one person from that area has shared that a bobcat has drunk from their pool and even napped beside it in the daytime (I actually saw one of the pictures of this.). I hike a lot and have seen numerous rattlesnakes while hiking-on the trails, and they can be out almost any time of the year, particularly once the temp reaches 70+. Scorpions? They sell blacklight flashlights here for the purpose of locating scorpions. They are in the soil, under the rocks in your yard, near fruit or palm trees. They are virtually everywhere! But strangely enough, one home may see numerous ones and his neighbor not so many. Cost of living? Yep, it costs more than Oklahoma! We have adjusted and dearly love it here because there is so much to see and do. I do think I see more Cali license plates than Arizona! We have LOTS of us old folk and snowbirds from our northern states & Canada. LOTS of veterans and golf courses! The people really are friendly. Everyone talks about how bad they drive here. Not true! They ought to try driving Dallas! Phoenix is really easy to get around. It is a super clean area. Tucson much smaller and not too clean but a fun place, too. Will always be an Okie but proud to be here now!!

      The Northwest is beautiful but lately has turned into a nightmare! Arizona has a beauty all its own. There is a ton of things to do here in the whole state. Ignore the heat. Everything is air conditioned. The fall and spring are fantastic. It does get cold at night in the winter. Ignore the bugs. Be wise but they aren’t that bad.

    Coming from Tulsa, Oklahoma, the pleasant surprise was lower property taxes and lower home owner's insurance. Plus, Tulsa is squeezed by turnpikes so our higher cost in housing was basically a wash with the lower costs in taxes, insurance and turnpikes.

    When I looked last year I found that the winters always have more precipitation than monsoon season because it is normally a longer soaking rain than the quick heavy downpours that happen during Monsoon season. As far as scorpions.. I equate them to Bees/Wasps in that their sting sucks and can be dangerous if you are allergic to them but they normally are not deadly. Have seen mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, javalina, and about a dozen rattlesnakes with one being in my yard but my house backs up to one of the reservations so I expect to see wildlife it really depends on where you live.

    Your wife is amazingly gorgeous! 🥰 True statement, not influenced by you. Lol. You guys had my husband and I giggling throughout. We had so many preconceived ideas about moving to Arizona before we got here. You touched on a lot of them. Now we've been here for 8 months and totally agree with you. We are also from Ohio! The Columbus area specifically. Our previous home, we paid $1,600 mortgage. And it was brand new, built for us in desirable school district. Here, we pay $2,100/m for a smaller home in a less desirable school district in the North Phoenix area plus we get a lower pay rate by $20k/year. Not to mention health care costs are double here than Ohio was and gas, food, etc. And like another lady said kn the comments, tagging our vehicles! Yikes! What an expense. I think my husband's truck alone was over $500! Mine half that. We still have no regrets, as we love the area. The proximity to California, Utah, Texas and Colorado (hubby's home state) can't be beat. Not to mention Mexico. Northern AZ is night and day from the Valley. We had the privelege of driving all around northern AZ then west to east from Buckeye (we stayed temporarily there for a month) over to Queen Creek. We settled near Deer Valley though and have enjoyed our community a lot. We haven't gone to this mysterious Tucson area you speak of, but I've also heard it exists. 😂 Thanks for your content! I've been watching you guys for a year and enjoy every video. And your scorpion smashing skills are off the chain by the way, lol. Stay safe and healthy! Oh, one more thought. We enjoy tent camping and wondered if you have any recommendations for where to go for that and if you'd be up for making a video on it. We did see your recent video (nice potty! Lol) on dispersed camping near Sedona. Your kids are so cuuuuute. Thanks so much!

    • @LivinOurDreamz
      @LivinOurDreamz  4 роки тому +1

      Glad you are enjoying it here, even with the financial differences from where you left. We are still adjusting to the school quality here v other places we’ve lived. But we do what we can to compensate. Basically all the places we’ve camped so far have been good for tent camping. Sedona, Williams, Flagstaff...we just went to Prescott and found the nights there to be more comfortable because of higher temps than the other places (Sedona was warmer at night as well, but probably too warm in the day right now). Always nice not to be too cold when more exposed to the elements. We will see about going into more detail in a future video. Thanks for watching our channel!

    Lived in the Southern California, Portland, Oregon, Las Vegas (no mosquitoes) and North Florida. Moved from Florida to Columbus, Ohio for a great job and have now retired. In 2018, I discovered Payson in a retirement vlog and since then looked at the states I used to live in, but to put it into a common phrase, I'm going to "circle back" to Payson. The valley is just too hot in the summer and all I can afford is a manufactured home in Apache Junction and that doesn't appeal to me. I was wondering where you were filming this video; could imagine the smell the fir trees and hear the rustle of the wind. Thanks so much for debunking the myths.

    • @LivinOurDreamz
      @LivinOurDreamz  3 роки тому +1

      Funny enough, we were actually in the Payson area camping when we did the video. Payson is a go to Summer escape and we enjoy spending time there when it gets hot in the Valley.

    Tucson exists! We've lived here on five acres in the foothills for twenty years. On our property we've encountered:
    javelinas
    rattlesnakes
    scorpions
    bobcats
    pack rats
    tarantulas
    Gila monsters
    assorted lizards
    mule deer
    coyotes

    I have been doing a lot of research over the past year, as Arizona is on the top of my list as I look to retire from New York City.. I have been very discouraged by the cost of an existing homes, and the cost of a piece of land that I would then have to build a house on the Real Estate websites. I think that it is currently a bad time to try to buy, so I am thinking long term a this point.
    I love the rain. I'm glad to hear that is rains, sometimes torrentially, in Az. However, in NYC, rain doesn't bring mosquitoes (which I particularly dread). Also, since I am from New York, I'm used to having a big grab bag of ethnicity around me. I am not looking to move there to meet new people, but it would give me comfort to know that I won't be overwhelmed by a single ethnic group that demands that I subscribe to their point of view 'or else'.
    I will comment again, but it would be nice to have a direct email so that you don't have to search ALL the comments to get through to you.
    Thanks from a future neighbor,
    Brian

      Arizona Dreamz I’m in San Antonio and after a little google searching it appears Arizona is just a little more expensive than it is here.
