If you are driving somewhere in the state and you see a dust storm heading your way, do not try to drive through it. Get as far as you can off the road and turn your lights off. Just stay there until the storm passes over you. It only takes a few minutes generally. After the dust passes over you, be prepared for a lot of rain!

I was born here in 1951. Yep, I'm 70. Been all over the world, wound up back here. Arizona has low desert, high desert, forest, snow, above the tree line, Flats, ravines, rivers, lakes and one big canyon. We have great old west and mining towns. 1/3 rd of Teddy's Rough Riders came from here. Lots of old mines and a few caves too. Everything. If you are new to the south west, try Tucson first. Even Paul McCartney bought a home there. Home of Linda Ronstat too. People come and people go, but I'm still here. I like it.

Yes embrace, so if you are a changeling type voter find somewhere else, we like fishing and hunting camping and we have some great scenic getaways. On the subject of hunting the folks in Az have a lot of hunting gear and it's open carry is most parts. Dont do it in the cities it's sort of frowned upon. But in rural area it's fairly common. So dont freak out city folks, oh and they have earthquake fault zones, a few in active volcanoes, and flash floods. Don't ever camp in a dry creek bed, and make sure you are a bit away during monsoon season ..NEVER!!! It can be extremely hot in the summer , so hydrate!! Do yard by 9am lol.

The heat of Arizona is no joke. Being a kid from, Detroit, Michigan. With grandparents and an uncle in Tucson, Arizona. We drove down to Tucson, Arizona. In our brand-new big, 1970 Chevy Station wagon. And I was able to bring my 10 speed bicycle with me. At, 13 years of age.
I loved Tucson. Sure it was hot. But it was nice and dry. Compared to the, murderous humidity. Of living on the Great Lakes. What a relief!
And so we were going to be there for the summer. And on this beautiful bright and sunny day. It was a nice warm, 115°F. And I went out riding my bicycle. Around downtown Tucson area.
At one point. I stopped. I looked at the building. With the time and temperature on it. It was 4:30 PM and 115°. And I had no idea where I was? Or, where I was staying? Who I was staying with? Or, what their names were? Oh? Oh? Something's wrong……? Something is very wrong.
I think I sort of realized. I had come down with a case of sunstroke, heat prostration? And I knew I was in trouble. I did not know what to do? But then I remembered, something.
My uncle had 5 Tire Stores.. And was called the Tire King of Tucson. So I went to a phone booth. Grab the phone book. And look for Tire King. Because I can't remember my uncles name? It's my mom's maiden name. I can't remember my mother's maiden name. But I remember Tire King. And there's a phone number!
I called the phone number. Got some guy on the phone. Told him my uncle owned the place and I need some help. He asked me what the problem was? I told him I did not know my uncles name? He realized what the problem was. He says hold on.
And so he picked up another phone.. And called my uncle who was at one of the other stores. Told him I was in trouble. And what corner I was standing on.
He kept on talking to me. And within a few minutes. My uncle pulled up. And rescued me. He took me back to my grandparents high-rise apartment. They loaded me up with water and salt tablets. And stuck me on the living room couch. Where I remained. For the next day. With the worst headache. I had ever had in my life. In my young 13-year-old, life. And realized I made a mistake and dodged, death. By remaining in the downtown area. I never broke a sweat. As the sweat drives. Before it comes out the pores of your skin. You never sweat. You just, passsout, fall over and die. If you are not cautiously careful with the heat. In, Arizona. Even if you're downtown on a bicycle. As I rode into downtown from the suburbs. Just a couple of miles out. Like two or three. Like nothing.
And so I don't think I was outside for more than an hour and 1/2. Before I was overcome. I went through no, issues or problems. Until I didn't know where I was? And I knew. That I should know where I am. But I don't. And something was very wrong.
It was a very sobering lesson to learn. About how fast one can be overcome. Even at the peak of, super energetic health of 13. Oh my goodness?
And ever since then. Not only have I been very careful. Now at 68. I am overcome by the heat, very easily. But I cannot tolerate the cold. So it's heat for me, baby. Give me that heat. At least I will pass away comfortably. Not shivering and cold.
Yes I don't think I would've gone much further before collapsing. Good thing I was near a payphone.. When there used to be, payphones. And calls were only, $0.10. One thin dime. But they are now, historical artifacts. Does a payphone have unlimited service? Yes if you pay for it. It's only limited by your coinage. That's why we still have coins. It was for phone calls, gumballs and candy bars. Not to mention cigarettes in machines. When a pack of cigarettes would cost you $0.35. Even at 13 years of age. Good thing I never smoked, cigarettes. Until I was age, 56. And I've got a lot of cigarettes to smoke before catching up to everybody's Cancer. Capricorn,, Pisces. Unicorns et al.
I think I have some permanent brain damage from sun cooking? I got a sunburn on my brain! And Blisters on my Fingers!

Nobody seems to really tell the public. What the temperature's can actually be out here. They downplay it a little bit. The temperature in Phoenix has gotten up to a 120° when I moved out here. Maybe 8 years ago in August. Mesa was a 117°. It gets super hot.
Protect everything window tint, shades. For your wind front windscreen when you park cause not everybody can park under a tree. Don't leave the house without stuff to drink. I keep a cooler usually in my truck. With ice and water and drinks don't get caught out here in the summer time with no drinks it could be your last mistake. Make sure you've had the maintenance done on your vehicle before even coming out here. If you gotta relocate in the summer you know. Check your belt hoses, all your liquids have your oil changed. Have the car vehicle in top condition? So you don't break down on the highway.

Have you ever been to Arizona? It's really nice here. I don't know what Australia's like, I have seen a lot of documentaries about the deadly wildlife there. It sounds like a very scary place to live.
My most favourite celebrity from Australia is Steve Irwin. I remember where I was when he passed from a stupid stingray barb to the heart. I was at work, a nurse, passing morning meds in Chico, California. That was back in 2006. How sad, he was a good man.
I was bred, born, and raised in Northern California. Summer of 2019 it was 121° F. Then I was chasing a dream in Washington State, but yeck!!! That was not the place for me. Now in October 2021 I find myself, my husband and our three little fur babies living in a RV in Quartzsite, Arizona. Ready to start all over again. I'm 60 and my hubby is 64. You can do anything you put your mind to and the Lord allows. GOD bless you and yours. Have an awesome day! 💥💥✝✝🙂🙂

My health depends on desert land no grass trees covid was not kind to me so I need dry air. I want to start a new chapter with my hubby. Taking a vacation in Nov. I been reading a lit about everything I know a got a while but we are coming. We want to retire here. And enjoy the fun. Foods restaurants. I know a big city will be different . But I not one for conversational or arguing. I don't ever talk politics you will never know who I want . Religion either I go to church my religion and it's nobody business Mt believes I silent to others about that. I will love it here I just know this is our calling. Good points but this is very Phoenix centric. Spending most of my life visiting Arizona I’d say break it up into 4 sections. Phoenix valley, Northern Arizona (flagstaff/Williams), Southeasten Arizona( Tucson, Sierra Vista/Bisbee, Sulphuric Springs valley) & maybe the western front of the Colorado river. I guess Showlow/white mountain area would be another as well. Climate in these areas are all a little different.
But for sure respect the local people and embrace Arizona for the beautiful state it is.

I used t live in Phx. from 1964-1987. There used to be a bar on 43rd Ave. and Northern called the Runnin' Grunion. I remember the owner Greg, a very laid back fellow. Well lit and attracted a crowd essentially in their 20's. Going further north on 43rd Ave we would come to Beardsley where a horseshoe shaped hill was and have desert parties at night. Also on 7th Ave and Camelback were two strip joints. The Uptown Express and the Camelback Lounge. Camelback Lounge was where I had fun times back in the 80's. Good times.

After 25 years in the bay moved to Gilbert a month ago, I don't believe it is practical to expect folks like myself to switch alliances as soon as I crossed Bakersfield. I love Arizona and cherish the intact way of life and freedoms and as a registered conservative I have nothing to change in this state when it comes to politics however switching loyalty overnight is asking for too much !! For example : I watched Steph Curry live 2nd row seat at the old oakland arena in his rookie season and watched in front of my very eyes the joy == >Igoudala, Green, Curry and Thompson brought to the Warrior fans who were for decades considered the DOORMAT of the nba or the legacy Bill Walsh left for the 9ers to inspire multiple head Coaches including Pete Carrol !! I really njoy the sport and this year the Cardinals have a real shot of going all the way while the Suns are up right there with Golden State ... .I will let you decide if you would change your loyalty overnight if you were in my shoes !!!

Just make sure to leave all the nanny state BS and entitlement attitudes in that nanny state(not mentioning any names, we all know) when you move here. This is AZ, not CA, NY, OR, WA or any of the other blue liberal states, and we like it just the way it's always been.
If you are in a desert climate, stay hydrated!! Summer heat WILL kick your butt and it can kill easily. Watch the high country too, as weather can go sideways at the drop of a hat with monsoon in summer, and wintertime, well, self-explanatory with snowfall, slick roads and cold temps.

I have arthritis and I’m experiencing a problem regulating my temperature. When the temperature goes down, from 70 degrees, I get really stiff and my circulation is affected as well. Will Arizona work for me as I’m getting close to being aged 59. I don’t like air conditioning that much anymore because it makes me physically uncomfortable and unable to move. I love the sunny area with a few shade. I drink a lot of water even in cold temperatures. I can not tolerate hills. Can walk better in flat areas. I love doing ceramics but I can’t tolerate the wind. I like wildlife but I can’t go on long hours of hiking due to my lower back issues from being hit by a car in 1999. The hills and then the pandemic aggravated my lower back even more. I want to be in the sun more often so I can get active once again after being literally housebound due to back stiffness. How can people manage to live in Arizona and to stay active even in hot w temperatures?

You can rent a car at Flagstaff and find an enterprising situation......and tour around with some jugs of water. When you hike on a mountain and can see out about 50 miles, it is so amazing. There is almost no place on entire east coast that you can see that far because so much humidity in the air. And the nights are cold in AZ so you sleep well under blankets. By 11am it's tee shirt weather, always sunny, about never rains. Restaurants like in New Mexico have no competition and dont hire real cooks either. So you do you own cooking and see if you can do better, and you can. Kent Rollins cowboy cooking ......videos. Fake people burn out in AZ in 1-2 years or months, so whoever is left is the real McCoy. I moved to CT from AZ and it's not all it's cracked up to be trust me. Much better way of life here. And it's open carry, unlike here, people are freaking crazy out there! Like ignorant crazy 🤪 not the best place for kids either if you have any, the heat hits you hard, it's oppressive and it's hot all the time. I used to visit Mexico frequently and with all the poor people here and tons of Mexicans (nothing wrong with that) it's a similar Mexico vibe, the wage gap is extreme, so many homeless, others will say "there's homeless in every city" but a simple Google search shows thats it's out of control if you don't believe someone who has lived in multiple states on both coasts... its so easy to get drugs you'll always see someone strung out "tweakers". Lots of pedophiles... Sounds really negative but people get so hyped up about AZ for some reason. It sucks. Seriously, usually they never lived in multiple states to be able to compare.
