    Awesome! I just returned from a week in Sedona and am thrilled to have this wonderful tutorial and roadmap for editing my red rock images. I have only dabbled with my TK8 panels to date. But, after downloading the image provided in this tutorial and following your excellent step by step process, my knowledge has been significantly enhanced on the features of TK8 and how to use them. Thanks for your tutorials and associated detailed notes, I will be referring to them often.

    Hi Dave, great use of the saturation/vibrance mask and contrast modes in the curves adjustment. I find myself using the lighten & darken modes in the curves adjustment more & more and will certainly use a saturation/vibrance mask more. ..... Hey Dave....Don't forget to give us something on the elimination of halos by using an edge mask... Great work!

    I can't imagine how this outstanding edit could have been acheived as easily, as quickly, and perhaps as effectively, without the TK8 plugin.

    Thank you very much for all these tutorials and edits. One thing is clear to me: small edits in specific areas achieve a perfect edit, which cannot be achieved with global adjustments. Your contribution to get better images is priceless, and match to the title of your channel: the JOY of editing, turning something boring and tedious into a rewarding experience.

    Another excellent video and another hidden gem (for me). The Saturation and Vibrance button in the TK8 panel. How is it that I have been using the TK8 panel for a few years now and not noticed what in the world is that button!!!!! I have been using the Stamp Visible button and then launching ACR to add a little vibrance.....thank you DAVE!!!!! And maybe you could start a Joy of Printing channel....have started printing and very little joy at the moment...

    Hi Dave: Thanks for creating and sharing this video, and thanks Mario for providing your image. I liked the way that you built up the edits within this image and the repetitive nature of some of the edits worked well to re-enforce the concepts. Keep well. . . Cheers, Keith

    I enjoy all of your videos, but this one addressed many questions I’ve been struggling with. I really like the idea of using Brightness/Contrast to block off an area. I’ve found the Freehand Vignette action is often too dark and does mess with the saturation. I’ll definitely watch this several times.

    Thanks Dave for editing Cathedral Rock. What a great Christmas Present!!! It's wonderful to see how you pulled this together, I learned so much today (as always). Enjoyed how you brought in the Saturation and Vibrance mask and made targeted edits to sharpen up and bring out the detail in the foreground. So many cool and useful TK-8 techniques today. Many thanks for this and for "The Joy of editing" you give all of us. Mario

    Nhi Dave...really enjoyed that technique at 15:50 for lightening up Cathedral Rock. I would have simply used a color mask and a curves layer. But your technique of using a zone mask intersected with a mids 1 was really eye-opening for me. Adding that one to my toolset

    Fantastic video Dave. I learn something new with every new video. Now I have a question. I just bought a new computer and I want to get The TK 8 panel for it. Should I get the TK8 panel, or is there going to be a new update coming anytime soon that I should wait for? Any idea? Thanks for all you do to help us!!

    Hey Dave, I noticed in this tutorial when you made sky selection there appears to be a minor halo at the junction of the sky and Cathedral Rock. This doesn't is not an issue unless one potentially wanted to make a large print, 11 X 14 or 16 X 20. Is there a way to counteract generating a halo with TK8 in high contrast areas such as where landscape meets sky. The finished image is just remarkable.

    Hi Dave. I'm not clear on when to choose Midtones 1-3. Is there some kind of clue for which to use?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  Рік тому

      I use Midtones 1 for lightening the midtowns with a Screen Blend Mode. I use Midtones 3 for my balance and contrast adjustments to protect shadows and highlights from clipping.

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Wow. Thanks Dave.

    • @TonyKuyper
      @TonyKuyper Рік тому +2

      Mids-1 and Mids-3 (and even Mids-2) are really the same mask. Mids-3 just reveals more of the image's pixels than Mids-1 and Mids-2, and Mids-2 reveals more than Mids-1. The way to choose which to use is to estimate how much you think the adjustment needs to affect the image. If you want your adjustment to affect everything except the brightest highlights and the darkest shadows (like Dave's balance and contrast with the Color Grading layer at the beginning of his workflow), then the Mids-3 is the best choice as it reveals more of the image's pixels for adjustment. If you want a more subtle effect from a given adjustment, then Mids-2 or Mid-1 is more appropriate. These are both darker masks when you view them on your monitor, so they will allow less of the adjustment to filter to the image when they act as a layer mask.
