Here's the story that I know: Beethoven was teaching her how to play the piano and wrote the piece for her so that she could learn and play it. Then, he found out she was to get married, he got so heartbroken that he wrote the rest of the song to be incredibly hard/complex so she can never play it on her piano.
After he became obsessed with her he made half of this song, but he then found out that Elise was getting married to someone else and he made the song easy for her to play as she diddnt know pianno that well but when he found out he made the song so hard so that she couldn’t play it for all eternity💀
Fun fact: This belongs to a genre called bagatelle. I don’t know why this genre is rarely mentioned in the classical music communities. It is just a small piece with simple melodies. It can be composed for many instruments, but piano is the most common one bagatelles are supposed to.
Well, considering that the average life expectancy was probably around 40-45, women (girls) as young as 14/15 were fair game. Essentially, if she’s old enough to menstruate, she’s old enough to marry. Still kinda gross to mate with someone young enough to be your child…😬😬
@@secondchairmusicit was basically unheard of to be that old and not be married, that’s how it was for most of human history, being a teen wasn’t really a thing and you’d already be considered an adult
I mean… nowadays people would say that was wrong, but in the 1800s a 30 year old man marrying a teenager was completely normal. Reasons why women were married so young was because the age expectancy for people at the time was 20-30 years younger than now (they were dying in their 50s and 60s while our age expectancy is 70s to 90s), also as women we don’t have our entire lives to bare children. We are able to have children from when we get our period to 35-40. If you take a look at the life expectancy at the time, women didn’t have forever to have children. That’s why they were married off young. It’s also kind of like how rich families in the 19th century and down (18th, 17th, 16th, and so on) would have cousins or siblings marry each other in hopes that they could keep the wealth in and under the family name. That was all normal. That’s all I really know about that time period but yeah. In conclusion, what society now deems illegal, could have very well been normal 200+ years ago.

Age did not matter back then, my grandma was 14 when she married a 45 yo man. He had an accident and died and my grandma married again at 16. If they change the legal age to 20 people are gonna be surprised anyone was into 18 year olds.
I think age was viewed differently back then. Most didn’t live past a certain age so I think more weight to grow up quickly was put on younger people than today. Also to my knowledge there weren’t really any age barriers like there are today. So things that essentially differentiate responsibility based on age wasn’t really a thing. In todays world a 17 year old is typically immature and unable to function as a full adult. Back then 16 was probably what 21 is today.
Well, thanks...😅😅 I actually haaaate the shorts that I made prior to this year. I was only just learning how to edit them and now that I’m more experienced, I think they all suck. 😂🤣
You are certainly very ignorant of societal norms in the 1800s. The age of consent when a female could consent to be married was 12. Any education other than university was completed by age 12. University studies were completed by 20. Full time work as an apprentice could begin at 10 and certainly by 12 years old males were working full time. I great-great grandfather was riding a horse to herd cattle back onto the farm after a flood at age 4. A 16 year old woman was expected to be married. A 21 year old unmarried woman was a bit of a disgrace as she was entering into spinsterhood. Teenagers and compulsory schooling until 18 are a modern invention helping to dumb down people and unnaturally delay the birth of children. The average age of a female beginning menstruation is 11, that is an act of Nature.
Age is just a number. People thought differently about it then compared to now where you are an idiot and no nothing if you are under a certain age or not of the correct political leanings
Makes sense cause the piece is in A minor.

Oooooh….😂😂😂
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA 😂
I think the more concerning thing to people of that era would've been the fact that he wasn't an aristocrat rather than the age difference.
Some of these guys were practically cradle robbers 😂😂😂 17 and 40 is actually quite mild compared to other age differences I’ve read about.
Really were i live u couldve gotten married when u were 14 and girls maybe even 12 or lower when u hit puberty

That's, the most amusing thing I've heard in a while. That's just such a funny image in my head, the pettiness.
Beethoven said "f*ck u b1tch" in form of music lol
I heard this from that guy that plays the piano while singing the history of a piece...I learned more from him than in music class😅
I don't care if this is the real story behind it, but if it's an excellent story.

Please post these type of videos on composers!! I would watch these all day!
The age wasn’t the problem back then it was probably the fact that she was already ‘promised’ to another.
Well, the life expectancy rate was much lower back then so you had to wed young.
Yeah, I know that, but a 17 marrying a 40 year old is…sus. Very, very sus. Even if it was the 1810s. 😂😂 marry a 25 year old.
@@secondchairmusic It was absolutely normal back then tho. Especially with eccentric people like this.
I doubt there were many unmarried 25 year old women walking around at that time. They would’ve been considered spinsters or old maids

This isn’t confirmed. It’s not actually known who “Elise” refers to, Therese Malffatti is just one of the prevailing theories
You understand that age of consent is way lower than it is today in his time. The more you know. 🎉
