The vent valve and the 2 way valve both will trigger a P1457 as well as the charcoal canister, purge solenoid, and related evap lines. A leak in the gas cap, fuel filler tube/lines, and fuel tank will trigger a P1456.
which vent valve are you talking about? thank you
@@johnh9507 The one on the RH side of the canister is the EVAP Canister Vent Shut Valve, and the other side is the EVAP Bypass Solenoid Valve
Evidently its common. My 01 civic does the same. Wish i could just bypass and get the light out my dash 😂
I know P1457 can be cause by a couple things in the EVAP system but to try and pinpoint exactly my issue, what can cause the car to stumble upon turning it on?
My car is doing this. It stumbles maybe like a minute after turning it back on warm after running it for a while.
Could it be as simple as an intake air filter?
Check engine has been on for a while. I JUST had the purge valve replaced and the check engine has not turned back on after resetting. I’m running it to see if it’ll turn back on but it’s off as of right now. But it still stumbles upon turning on the car.
the p1457 cel is activated after two drive cycles in specific conditions according to alldata. so i don't think it woulda come right back unless pending of course. otherwise decent video, you should diagnose everything even if its just soapy water attempt imo, but waht do i know.
Hi I get on my 2001 civic code p0303. The coil and spark plug are OK. I noticed when I measured the resistance of the coils that the head cover is not grounded. Do you think this can be a reason? Thanks.
P0303 is misfire #3 code. Very easy check on ignition coil "good or bad". Hold the ignition coil to a ground and crank the engine, if you see sparks coming out of the coil then its good. Next step to check is injector pulse, using noid light, if it flash on the noid light then its good pulse. Then use volt meter ohm test injector resistance, make sure ohm test all the injectors, if one injector is high or low on resistance than the other 3 injectors, then that injector is bad.
I previously changed the other one going to change this one hopefully it won’t come back.
great video..Will the engine turn off by itself or should i clear it with my code reader?
Clear code with the code reader. Check engine light doesnt turn off by itself.
Great vid help thanks man....i got a 1456 on an 01 CANT figure it out yet( hav a gas smell @ back of car a lot)....any ideas/thoughts
would help frm u or anyone here THANKS
BTW sir WHAT scantool u hav there ??? I want one ... or can u suggest one( budget frm Amazon) for 01 civic that handles bi-directional😊
Will this pass inspection if you do not erase it in obd2 scanner with check engine light on ?
You have to replace it and erase the code. If you don't erase it, the problem is still save in the computer.
@@Ah_Duuu_Ma before I replace it when I test it with 9v battery, it's working, should I still replace it with New one ?
@@JIM99127 If you replace it, I recommend replacing it with oem part and replace the gas cap too.
I have a 2004 crv didn’t realize they both had different codes I replaced the vent valve but I did have the code p1457 and after I would get gas it wouldn’t start right away I cleared the code after replacing the vent valve and it came back about 2 days later I’m about to try that 2 way valve you replaced here is there a way to test that to for sure know that’s the issue?
Replace the 2 way valve ancheck the gas cap gasket, make sure its still good. Hondas do have a lot of problems with the vent valve and 2 way bypass valve. Very common.
Did u fix the Issue
Did u fix it??
I got a 99 Honda Civic it just big down and smoking and it won't start and the only code was saying manufacturing control
I have a 2001 Honda Civic Lx 1.7 as well , it’s running very sluggish , gas gauge is only accurate sometimes, it gets stuck at full or empty. Only code I have is P1457 , would this replacement make my car run like new again?
Check the purge valve first, make sure its not in the open position, and smoke leak test the evaporator system "if you know how to check it". Purge valve should be close, only open when it needs to purge. An open purge valve at all time can makes the car run very sluggish, weak. If its good then do the same as I did. Your car won't run like new its a 2001, it will run like normal like it should.
Is this also the same fix for trembling/engine shaking? when I’m at highway speeds it’s smooth and when I’m in drive at a red light it’s smooth , only when sitting in idle and reversing it’s dropping low in rpm’s and almost wants to die , I have done all tune up I don’t know why it shakes so bad
@@ronnieray7080same here if you find out be sure to post the fix
Can this cause your car to not start? Bc thats what’s happening to mine
This WILL NOT affect a no start. Not turning on problems, could be bad battery or starter. If cranks but no start, could be no fuel or no sparks.
****** If you are having issues starting this gen civic check your alternator mounting bolts. If the bolts become loose it causes ground arcing and can fry your ECU*****
Bro my Honda civic 2001 exhaust is smoking bad !What do yo think can be the problem?
Smokes coming out of the exhaust. Possible causes, (white smoke) slight oil leak into the valves (bad valve stem seals), burning too much oil. (Black smoke) burning too much fuel, running too rich (bad or leaking fuel injectors). (White with moist in smoke or smell sweet) leaking coolant into the combustion chamber.
Would this work for a 1999 Honda civic (p1457)
The part is a little different. It’s the canister vent shut off valve or the 2 way bypass valve. Replace both parts.
Can a bad 2 way valve cause a P0497?
I'm doing some troubleshooting on this shortly. I already looked into the purge valve solenoid and function tested it as well. I ended up swapping throttle bodies with all the sensors on it because I broke the throttle body housing, removing the screw for one of the sensors. This comment is for P0497 code. I have a 2004 civic JDM D17A. (Same as D17A2)
do you have the link to that part?
would it fit a 2003 honda civic?
this doesnt make any sense, most videos on the p1457 is the purge valve on the cannister
Do I have to disconnect battery before installing?
You don't have to.
Do This Effect Gas Mileage?
No
If do not effect gas mileage, will it pass inspection if I don't replace it ?
YES.
@@JIM99127I just cleared the code before emissions test and it passed, but I think it varies by state
p0457 0r p1457 ???
The latter--P1457. He corrects himself later in the video.
So every time I put gas it doesn’t start is this the main cause of it?
What do you mean put gas in and doesn't start?
Same problem with my 02, anytime I refill at the gas station I'll have a hard start problem. Could this replacement solve the problem?
@@officialdjmaxi1388 Make sure you put in the right gas. Hard start problem could be weak battery or weak starter or vacuum leak. Evap system shouldn't be a problem to start the car.
@@officialdjmaxi1388 Putting gas in shouldn't affect the car to start unless you putting in the wrong gas. What's the problem with with hard start, cranks but no start or slow start?
A purge valve that is stuck open will cause a no-start right after getting fuel. If it starts after a minute or so, it's absolutely a problem with your evap system.
While the fuel is entering the tank, it's creating excessive pressure, which is supposed to vent. When you have a faulty purge valve that is stuck open, the excess pressure is being built up along the entire system. When you try and start the car, it's almost like it's flooded (like an older car would get) because of the excess fuel vapors. Hope this helps, even if it's 10 months late
