    There are many great techniques and tips in this video that will make anyone better regardless of experience level. But I think the title is misleading, that this is not a beginner's class but more for someone with moderate to advanced experience who can use this to perfect the art. I can't see a beginner come close to being able to use the techniques in this video without days, weeks, months of prior experience. That is not to discount any of the content - it is all spot-on and demonstrates an admirable mastery of the trade. Great video for people of all skill levels to watch and learn. Beginners need a much simpler set of beginner skills that will help them at their level.

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with all us beginners. Any one going into the business should watch and learn as it seems now days contractors and their employees are just to busy to take the time to teach all these tricks and tips. Unfortunately there aren't enough generation x'ers that are willing to learn these trades or even want to do this type of manual labor which has made it difficult for contractors of all trades to find qualified and competent help. I'm a 65 year old that just needed a little brush up on my limited drywall experience.

    Seeing the father-son dynamic in this series gives me inspiration for when I'm a father. My dad, and so many other dads of a particular generation, used to "communicate" with me by getting me to "help" with a job, by proceeding to do everything while I stood around and passed him the odd tool and learned next to nothing. Then he would be perplexed when I moved out of the house and had no idea how to function and just kept passing myself tools and standing around. As a result of my lack of an education in that regard, I turned to papa UA-cam, and thanks to incredibly effective communicators like the fella in this series, I can do more than my dad can do and better. Now my dad sees my skill set and thinks he taught me all that. I love the man, but I just needed to vent. Moral of the story? Teach your children, use words, and get them to do the work. Be the dad in the video.

    I've been struggling with mudding the joints for a few days now and I just took a break from mudding to tell you i just had a breakthrough!! It was as if the heavens opened up and gave me "the skills" lol! My biggest mistake was not holding the taping knife correctly! I was literally plowing thru the mud with the way I was holding the trowel . It seemed no matter how much mud I put on the tape joint the joint would wind up lower than the wall in the center where the tape is. Lol! I found out that holding the blade flatter against the wall it didn't plow the mud away so much! It also made my seams extremely level with wall. This in turn not only made my seam flat but it also requires little to no sanding afterwards! Its amazing! The seam actually shines when doing it correctly! No bubbles ,no unevenness, no issues whatsoever! ....I feel amazing! I can't believe I'm actually doing it correctly and its coming out looking like I hired a guy that knew what he was doing! Lol! My advice to anybody struggling is hold your knife or trowel blade almost even with the wall and do what the video says. Feather the outside of joint by applying pressure at an angle to both sides then gently float the joint in the middle for your final whipe! It actually works!

    • @kamranayub
      @kamranayub 3 роки тому

      Thanks, the first time I did the horizontal joint I didn't apply enough mud first to put the tape on so it was not adhering right. I took off the tape, let everything dry, came back next morning, wet sanded it back down, then redid it. MUCH BETTER the second time. I haven't used the trowel yet so thanks for this tip!
      I think the big thing I also didn't realize was that as long as the very inside corners look great it's easy to sand away any imperfections. The first/second coats don't have to be perfect, it's the final coat where you want to me more careful so the corners all look good. I'm still on the second coat phase and I've probably rewatched this video like 10 times lol.

    2nd video ve watched on mudding. I am used to using plaster for building models. So I have a feel for mud. done many patch jobs but never took the time to see how it's really done. AS soon as I saw you grab a 4inch pallet knife and the mud holding thingy I knew I didn't have to investigate any further. In 1st video I watched the guy used a battery of scraper pre-whet the paper and so forth. Limited tools and no hassle great video Sir!

    It comes in handy to have a soft rubber mallet, not metal, nearby when teaching someone how to mud. If they start that icing a cake bullshit, a small but authoritative tap to the side of the head will cause a lasting impression.

    Bit of advice for all of you. Go to Home Depot, find the Mexicans looking for work. Find the ones who know how to do drywall. Pay them a good wage, 24 pack of beer and I guarantee you the finished job will look better than any contractor you can hire. You've saved money. countless hours on you tube (cause I can watch this guys dyi videos all day).

    As a former teacher myself, you my friend make most remodelers beginners. You are an excellent teacher. And you know what your doing! You tell it like it is in the real world, and how it should be done fast! When your doing it for a living, time matters, because time is money in your pocket, and there are other contractors that need to get in the house to do their job. To get the home owners moved in. Thank You for such a great teaching experience!!!

    Hey Jeff, quick question about taping: In a previous video, you mention that you should always tape your inside corners first, and then do you horizontal joints so that the tape on the horizontal joint butts up to the inside corner tape. In this video, you do your horizontal joints first and then tape right over them when doing the inside corner. Does it matter one way or the other which one is done first and if the tape overlaps each other?

I wasn't doing a great job, then I watched this video and it changed everything. Awesome job explaining all the intricacies in an easy to understand and engaging way, you are a master.

    No real disagreement moistening the paper tape for years and many sheets over the years has served me well for years . Seen many ceilings mainly not mudded properly as not ENOUGH mud used appropriately
