Mr Jeff, I have viewed your entire series of putting the sheetrock up, and all the steps up to ready to paint. I have an old pole barn here in a swamp near Gainesville, Florida that I'm making a sewing room for my wife of 43 years. I have already put the interior walls up, wired the electrical, and put in sub flooring. I've got the sheetrock up at this point, and I've got more holes and cracks than "Carter has liver pills." I've never done taping and mudding before, so I think I'll do it your way. I like your way of instruction. You have a kind face. Thank you for your tutorials. God Bless You!
Might be a bit late for you, but a automatic taper will really help. If you are doing a barn, it really is worthwhile to buy some specialty tools.

Nice technique on removing screws and using the handle. I'm one that has made those 3"-4" mud circles for that drywall sticking out 🤭 or sandpaper trails, but no more. Thank you.

Understand the corner and mudding technique too. One side and dry so, there's no dirt in the mud doing the other side. Less is more. 🙂

Killz oil primer can is one of the oldest and still used by many for any kind of drywall repair this product is just amazing
Take it from me, I have going been to drywall school, Jeff is really good at drywall. I haven’t seen a thing he does that would be bogus in the trade.
I go around first and fill large gaps first.Use the back of the knife to push in non tapered edges.Jeff ,thanks for the portion on proper angles you hold the knife and trowel for each phase of the process.

Hi Jeff! OLFA style knife trick... I leave my blades long... super convenient when I want to extend the blade and bend the knife flush to cut flat along a wall or clean a corner... then retract to cut routine. To keep it razor sharp, I have a discarded diamond rod ... kitchen style ... like $16 on Amazon or Ebay.... few swipes with that and razor sharp. Also... my blades last a year or more by resharpening... the ten blades that come with the knife will last a lifetime! You have helped me learn so much! I just review your vids before tackling the impossible!!! Subscribed! Thanks, man!
I'm planning on renovating my office space in the house I bought a few months back. They got these thick trims in the corners, saggy wood textured paneling on one wall and a ugly textured ceiling. Turns out all that thick trim everywhere was covering up the fact they didn't even try to mud or finish the corners at all. They are just inch gaps in the drywall behind them and I'm gonna need to put in a lot more work than I was expecting. At least I have this channel to get me up to speed on how everything should be done.
Although I don't see anyone do this today, my grandfather built himself a box that held mud, a spool with paper on it. You'd draw the paper which would slide under the mud in the box, and out the other end where you would would pull it to the length you needed, and tear it off. It'd be coated with a film of mud, which could be slapped directly on the wall and pressed or imbedded directly onto wall. It was super fast as I recall and didn't require you to pre-mud the wall for the paper.
I am making a tiny house out of a 420sqft. Building and installing shower, watched your video on it a few times you do great at instructing and have giving me confidence and information to try it myself! And I havebeen watching your videoes on sheetrock, mudding and tips ! You said to put questions in comments, so here goes! The sheetrock was done prior to me getting building and in moving have bad spots cracks and some walls painted, I had to remove to upgrade wiring! Here is the questions, can you mud tape etc. Painted walls?
And cracks , how do you do them , , have not seen in your videos yet, saw one you said you sprayed something on torn or scratched places, but can not find name of stuff you spray!
Anything you can do to help with going behind poor mud job or torn or scratches and especially what to do or tricks when doing painted walls, or if it can be done!

And you help me stop getting ripped off by industry, but they do so much to not sale us complete products , never get everything needed and they try to trick you if you do not look close and I have noticed they even say 1 thing on outside and on inside find out it will not work as is or without other parts! Really bad and vague information, almost criminal!

The tip on only mudding one side of the corner at a time makes a lot of sense. I was driving myself crazy trying to do both sides at the same time.
Just to make sure I'm understanding him correctly - Jeff is saying to do one side of the corner at a time. Let the one side dry thoroughly. Maybe use a fan or a vacuum to speed up the process. Then come back the next day to finish the other side of the corner. Is that how it should be done?
Jeff, your videos have provided such good info over the years, that it gave me the confidence to do my own kitchen remodel (which turned into stripping everything down to the studs because I kept finding more problems). My mud work is far from good, but things are coming together. After painting, I can see some flaws, but I plan to go back and repair them. Cabinets and flooring are not installed, yet. It won't be perfect when done, but I'm taking my time to do it the best that I can. Thank you for all your hard work in providing these detailed videos, and for educating those of us who are DIY-ers.

Like the boxed paper tape idea for corners! Going to be repairing a tall recess that leads to a skylight in a bathroom, so the stiffer construction of this particular paper tape could make it a better solution.
its the lowkey grilling of the sons learning the job that gets me lol my dad was like that too years later im like damn he sure grilled me a lot and gave me crap but hell if i cant set plumbing and concrete like a landscaper lol
You do a wonderful job explaining everything. I am a DYI homeowner and have completely upgraded my old knob and tube 1890 home to putting in a new boiler, and spending a summer vinyl siding with making all the trim breaks buying a used break for $700 and selling it at the end of the summer for $600... beats the rental prices. Anyways you remind me so much of my self its uncanny. I love to teach others because its rewarding. I don't have any formal training other than being raised by my Grandfather and Uncle who both were in building homes trades so I paid attention because it was interesting, Honestly I wished you were around when I watched a lot of Bob and Norm. Anyways keep up the teaching and I have watched a lot of your videos and became hooked on RenoVison DYI and enjoy them very much.

Jeff, most olfa knives have the cap on the end that is slotted to allow you to insert over blade and snap off. Please wear safety glasses when snapping the blade like you showed. Having been in the construction industry and safety engineers for over 30 years safety is very important. You do a great job and I enjoy your channel.
I need to do some drywall repair in a room with carpet. Of course I would use a drop cloth. Most of your drywall vids are on a construction site. I have to be much more careful. Would using a tray be better than a hawk to minimize spills? Will the 4x10 still work or would I have to use a 10in knife? Having carpet changes the process like cleaning the tools etc. Maybe a video addressing non new construction would be helpful. Your videos are the gold standard for DIY homeowners.

Can you go into more detail as to why you apply muf on the side of the knife? Are you applying mud to fill the crack or to give the tape some sort of adhesion?
I've noticed some explanations like this missing from your more recent videos. Is one of the things that always helps me a lot. Explanations why you do something a particular way.

I've been watching your videos to be better prepared for our renovations on the new house. Most of them I've watched twice so I retain the information. Hey Jeff, i cannot find the video where you comment about this product you use to sweep the floor after working with drywall. Anyway they dont sell it here. So I used ... used ground coffee. It is ideal if it keeps a bit of moisture because it works like adhesive to the dust. It is perfect for sweeping when you are fixing drywall inside finished house (with finished flooring).
If you’re using a brand new 4” knife give the corner edges a sand so you don’t rip and tear every piece of tape you try and bed

Hi Gregory Brown if u have a brand new drywall knife u never sand the edges of a new knife for drywall the edges are designed to be sharp so u get perfect corners especially on your smaller knifes your problem is u don't have enough experience it takes time me to get the feel of drywall knifes something this guy y forgot to tell u taping is an art and Jeff dose not compare to a real pro big jobs should be left to the real pros Jeff is good enough to do his own work but he is no where as good as guys who do taping for a living
Was hoping for more details about types of tools, like for example, what the heck is blue steel? What type of sanding blocks should I get? Do I really need so many knives or can I just get by with one?
The ASMR is an added bonus that really makes this show both educational and relaxing. 😌 Definitely one of my favorite wind down bedtime shows. So far, I've applied a little bit of something out of every video either to my home, or be the head knowledge guy for friends in projects. Thanks Jeff!

when you remove the bottom it should have a slot to use to remove the part of blade you want to remove so you have control of the blade so it doesn't go flying!

My Dad would get aggravated if I marked anything with ink pen. Because ink pen will bleed and bleed with mud or paint. At the first of the video I could hear him lecturing me on ink pen. (Thanks for bringing out my old memories) I miss my Dad.

I seem to get ugly results. I think my mud started to get a little dry and leaving some rough spaces. I did try to wet it a little, but after awhile still had the same issue as if I was working on the area too much (trying to get it perfect) and it had dried a little and I keep adding more mud. It's truly an art and takes practice.

Hi Jeff, I have been binge watching your videos! What a gem! And we finally got a house and it really needs a lot of care. I consulted a general contractor and ask about if we can do the finishing work like tiling up shower and install electric radiant flooring ourselves and tiling, installing vanity etc, so that we can save some money. Where he go ahead and add a bathroom for us and of course plumbing and wiring. He refused me and explained that there are rough in inspection and final inspection and he can’t trust our work for final inspection, which would damage his reputation and license. We are not sure if this would be the case for all the contractors? Or is it really that what we are asking for is too much? I guess my question is how can we legally renovation with help yet doing most of the labor intensive job ourselves. I live in New Jersey by the way. Hope you can see my comment! Thank you so much!
I finally caught a video upload!! 😂 I have so many questions that I left on older videos. I've heard different things from you depending on the age of your video. So which is your favorite, vinyl or linoleum planks for kitchen and home? How do you get off thinset from concrete? Your tile video totally skipped over this because they had their tile over old flooring. Also, I love you and your videos are so awesome!! Love your personality!
thinset off concrete is usually removed with an angle grinder and a cup grinder wheel. there is also a commercial sized grinder that looks like a floor polisher. I love vinyl plank. Cheers!
