Frankly, I think you two could just hop on a flight to Canada and find a relatively affordable used van for sale. It doesn’t have to be a shiny new specimen of German engineering. It’s about the journey and personalities, the van is secondary.

Canadian here (who lives in the UK). Not quite so simple. Canada has laws about having a permanent residence to attach the van insurance to. We’ve been looking at exactly thjs idea. Need to find a province they would let it happen.
Liam, please don't say at the beginning of the video that you're going to explain about what's happened and then not! We all care about your journey and think it's only fair you at least say it's not a health or family issue. If it was a problem with the van you could have said it was a legal problem beyond your control or something! I am sorry that this has happened to you too. However you documented on a previous video the business you got this van from and now people are speculating that it could be stolen. Have you considered the impact this could have on them?
You are correct the van chassis number must have been flagged by the insurance company and the police will be all over the company that sold it, that's all I can think of.

As the van was not new, I suspect it might have been reported stolen. As far as I am aware, if you purchase a vehicle here, (Australia), from a dealer, it is guaranteed to be legitimate, but perhaps it is different in other countries.

Highly unlikely that the van was stolen as the dealership would have checked. The VRN is clearly shown on the video so anybody could do a search to see if it's reported stolen. Plus a quick search online will show you what is highly likely the same van, currently for sale in the South of England. I would guess financial issues forced postponement of any trip, which is rubbish news for them.

They have probably inadvertently fallen foul of those rules with nobody to advise them what they actually are. If this is the case, and they are not too proud to ask for help, we subscribers would be able to help them out of it financially, Im sure. The downside of living one's life in public on UA-cam is that everyone will naturally be curious as to what exactly has happened, so speculation (like this) is unfortunately part of the price of 'fame'.

I was actually quite concerned that you were going to be ill equipped for the North American winter, and also that you were going over there in very turbulent times. Losing the van could be due to one of four reasons. 1) Maybe a couple are divorcing and one of them sold off their prized possession resulting in a court order prohibiting the sale 2) Stolen 3) Still on finance 4) New finance not attainable.
After Tread The Globes experiences with shipping, I think just buying a van abroad and selling makes sense but whatever happens, you always turn these bad times into good 💪💪💪💪
I think you are going to have to explain yourself better Liam because you have a whole lot of subscribers fed up with that ‘explanation’ which actually wasn’t one.
A quick search shows that if someone plans on being abroad long-term or moving permanently, they likely need to settle or terminate their car finance agreement before leaving the country. All speculation of course. As long as you have your health and each other, you’ll find a way forward.
When we moved from the US to Europe 20 years ago it was made clear that financed vehicles had to be paid in full before being allowed to be shipped. I was wondering if they were paying cash for the van. No way a bank would allow an asset to leave to North America where they had no way of repossession.

Shocked but glad you’re ok. We had a similar event last month. We sold our house, moved into our van and then my father passed away. Leaving me the family home. Now we’re back in a house a again (albeit a lovely old cottage in the countryside where I grew up) 🤷🏼♂️

You will get through this. We had a setback where we were buying a brand new house and the build was delayed for 10 months and we had sold our old house, so were basically homeless. We got through it without any blame or frustration being projected onto each other or anyone else. Like you, we just gritted our teeth and rode it out. Oh goodness. I have some understanding of some of the feelings around this kind of sudden, outside of your control, type of loss because we've also been going through exactly that. Life upside down, had a plan that we thought we could rely on, and wham! Life said "Nope. We're not going that way". But, same as you, we are surrounded by love and that's all that matters. After accepting the grief for what we thought the future would be, we've also begun to see this as an opportunity to reimagine something else. To go back to our values and then try again, taking values based actions. We've decided to keep travelling in the same direction but we accept we are now maybe a few degrees west and will need to adapt our course further down the line. I feel for you both. Janine really wanted a permanent vanlife home and this must be very disorientating. X

Imo. a left hand drive will be better for the US (and also most of Europe)? Get a van in Europe or the US? I didn't like "being on the wrong side" when driving in the UK in a left hand drive; drivers glance at the person they think is driving and dont know that the driver has seen them, doors open to the road in urban parking places etc. (I love chevvy vans; the pulling power is a safety feature. Some have high top conversion.)
Going against the grain says it all... don't give up. When the tide turns, you will have the freedom and satisfaction from life you are searching for. You have chosen to not share the reasons behind the sudden change for private reasons that we must respect. I was actually quite concerned that you were going to be ill equipped for the North American winter, and also that you were going over there in very turbulent times. Whatever you do, we viewers have got your back on the spiritual and compassionate level. One way or another it's going to be okay.

Losing the van could be due to one of four reasons.
1) Maybe a couple are divorcing and one of them sold off their prized possession resulting in a court order prohibiting the sale
2) Stolen
3) Still on finance
4) New finance not attainable.
After Tread The Globes experiences with shipping, I think just buying a van abroad and selling makes sense but whatever happens, you always turn these bad times into good 💪💪💪💪
Travel Beans did it (and their first van burst into flames on the side of the road) but it’s difficult without a residence in the country.

A quick search shows that if someone plans on being abroad long-term or moving permanently, they likely need to settle or terminate their car finance agreement before leaving the country. All speculation of course.

When we moved from the US to Europe 20 years ago it was made clear that financed vehicles had to be paid in full before being allowed to be shipped. I was wondering if they were paying cash for the van. No way a bank would allow an asset to leave to North America where they had no way of repossession.

If you end up giving up vanlife, maybe time to get the canal barge. You tried it out not so long ago. Slower pace of life. In the uk. Im guessing not so much can go wrong with that ? But i am probably wrong. I too had a feeling that VW van was not the one for you. Go with your gut feeling. Cant wait to hear what comes next for you. Take your time. Shocked but glad you’re ok. We had a similar event last month. We sold our house, moved into our van and then my father passed away. Leaving me the family home. Now we’re back in a house a again (albeit a lovely old cottage in the countryside where I grew up) 🤷🏼♂️

You will get through this. We had a setback where we were buying a brand new house and the build was delayed for 10 months and we had sold our old house, so were basically homeless. We got through it without any blame or frustration being projected onto each other or anyone else. Like you, we just gritted our teeth and rode it out. Your attitude to life and each other will get you through. Thank you for sharing such a difficult time for you both ❤

Sorry that for now things are on hold. I have this struggle with the universe all the time. There are 2 choices. Is the universe putting these things in the way to show me I shouldn't be doing it? Or is the universe saying I'm putting all these things in your way to prove that you can overcome them? That is the struggle. The choice is ours. It does seem to me that when anyone goes outside the norm, if there is such a thing, that an amazing amount of things are put in our way to overcome. Good luck with your choices. Oh goodness. I have some understanding of some of the feelings around this kind of sudden, outside of your control, type of loss because we've also been going through exactly that. Life upside down, had a plan that we thought we could rely on, and wham! Life said "Nope. We're not going that way".
But, same as you, we are surrounded by love and that's all that matters. After accepting the grief for what we thought the future would be, we've also begun to see this as an opportunity to reimagine something else. To go back to our values and then try again, taking values based actions. We've decided to keep travelling in the same direction but we accept we are now maybe a few degrees west and will need to adapt our course further down the line.
I feel for you both. Janine really wanted a permanent vanlife home and this must be very disorientating. X
Its rubbish when plans change out of your control . I want to travel and see more of the world and keep getting my plans scuppered.. not going on to plan b just trying to find a new plan a 😂😂😂

Imo. a left hand drive will be better for the US (and also most of Europe)? Get a van in Europe or the US? I didn't like "being on the wrong side" when driving in the UK in a left hand drive; drivers glance at the person they think is driving and dont know that the driver has seen them, doors open to the road in urban parking places etc. (I love chevvy vans; the pulling power is a safety feature. Some have high top conversion.)

If the van did have outstanding finance from a previous owner then the dealership who sold it to you are at fault for not showing due diligence. If that is the case. Good luck x
