    A man who used to live by my nan brought a VW split screen brand new in the late 50s early 60s drove it home. His wife at the time hated it but he refused to get rid so he put it in his garage on blocks and paid a VW tec to come out and service it. When he passed away VW offered to buy it back as it was all completely standard with only 11 miles on the clock from new.

    Never go anywhere without my jump pack. NOCO Boost HD GB70 2000A been priceless used it twice for storage when I've not moved for a while and the vechicle battery has gone too low and for my previous which was a Toyota hybrid that the aux battery was not man enough for winter when short journeys just depleted the battery too quickly.

      The battery will get damaged and have an early death if you keep letting it get low. You need to have a system to keep it charged when not in use.

    • @tradecarsdirectltd2344

      Ken you need to trickle charge Toyo Hybrids wont charge driving them as they don't have a common alternator ! So when we pop off in the moho for a long weekend we charge it then, else the battery will deteriorate quickly.

      @@tradecarsdirectltd2344 Toyota's advice is to drive 500 miles a month to keep the vehicle battery charged, they've just put too small a battery on the Yaris Cross, it's a very common problem, hence why I got rid of the car after the first winter. It's only winter when the cars suffers as the battery is stressed more.

    I don't know how your lithium/ inverter is wired but I'm able to run my sargent built in charger if needed on the inverter which can charge/ boost the cab battery from the lithium, in theory that should provide enough current to help jump the cab battery.

    Heard this so many times about AA and RAC falling short. A lot of the insurance provided recovery services arent much better.
    For this reason we never travel in Europe without Red Pennant from CAMC.
    Having needed to use them the service was amazing.

  • @lowrider075

    G'day Steve, I have both a jump pack and a "trickle feed charger" (NOCO Genius 5) that I connect to the vehicle battery and plug in to the house battery. This maintains a small amount of charge from the solar to the vehicle battery. There is a plug you can attach to the battery and leave under the passenger seat where you plug the charger into so you do not have to access the battery all the time. Haven't needed my jump pack since I started using this. Glad to see you're all doing well and back together

  • @daviddavies293
    @daviddavies293 3 місяці тому +4

    I wouldn’t exclude the possibility you have an alternator problem. It would be unusual for a battery to fail on such a new vehicle. Fitting a new battery would resolve the problem short term.

    • @paulcoveney5232
      @paulcoveney5232 3 місяці тому +1

      I thought the same. The new battery will die in no time if the alternator is not charging it.

    • @tradecarsdirectltd2344
      @tradecarsdirectltd2344 3 місяці тому

      If it was the alternator it would have discharged and died a long time ago. A faulty battery will keep on going as long as vehicle running. Lead acid will deteriorate quickly if they keep running low on charge.
      Mine charges off the solar when standing.
      Also Steve if the stop/start not working it means your agm battery is not at 100% which it need's to be.

    I appreciate this vlog is probably ages ago for you now but I’m interested in this battery. Why on a new motorhome that is being driven regularly would the battery fail? Is it an alternator issue? Is the new battery working properly? Seems an odd fault on such a new van used regularly.

    Sorry to hear of your troubles but glad you were able to sort things out. We had a breakdown in northern Norway that required our 3 year old van being repatriated on a low-loader. We too were with the RAC, who were useless. Many comments below say the same. Our experience is in this months MMM magazine letters section if you're interested, but my point is that neither the RAC or any other provide will change without consumer pressure. You are in a unique position to lead a charge on this - fancy taking it on?

    Disappointing another problem with the van at less than 3yrs old & around 25,000 miles? Maybe we’re just lucky but only on our second vehicle battery at 12 years old. Also is it normal for the Sevel type vans to use so much AdBlue? I fill our VW Crafter up with around 15 litres once a year when servicing and that’s it. Never have to top up on long trips and do roughly the same annual mileage and trip lengths as yourselves.

They failed to respond within a reasonable time after uou reported a problem. You even had to go and purchase a very expensive battery yourself, then pay €50 to get it fitted, that is not good enough imo. Red Pennant is a must for all Euro trips, as they seem to be the only recovery service that work's. Forget AA/RAC they just can't cope once you outside the UK . . .

    We have enjoyed watching this video, we stayed at the same campsite in Berlin earlier this year. Can’t agree on the cleanliness of the showers, it was the unpleasant smell, we used them once & after that our facilities on our motor home. You are paying simply for the location & nothing else.
    When we travel we do expect facilities to be clean. In our tour of Germany this was the only one with such facilities ☹️

      RAC are crap in the UK as well. I waited from 07.30 until 11.00 for RAC to come to me on M11 hard shoulder to be told I need recovery. Limped off motorway from danger, no recovery by 16.00 !!…….rang my brother who made the trip to help me. 😮 suffice to say first and last time to use RAC in 16 years. Moved to another breakdown provider. 👍

    Because of creeping populism and the growing influence of unpleasant right wing politicians, Germany has unilaterally imposed these new border controls. Hopefully not the start of the end of Schengen!
    But it does underpin the value of remembering our battles against the Nazis, as well as honouring those people who risked their lives crossing the east/west border!
