Criminality aside, Naka was forced to release Balan WonderWorld before it was finished. I’ve played that game and can see what he was trying to do. Another year or more and that game could have been something to remember.

I would recommend that the people wish to tell Nintendo to buy out Star Fox if Nintendo doesn't want to do anything with the franchise, just so they can make the games however they see fit. But again, as people who make creations for companies, you have to be "Really" careful with what you introduce to video game companies, and if you wish to make the best product, than introduce you're best one later in life and not early on....I would rather buy out a IP rather than go to the company who owns the IP in the first place.

I suppose this really boils down to a case by case basis. In terms of Nintendo, I think training the new blood to fill in the shoes of the roles passed down by others is a good example of “upholding the legacy”. Sega sorta does the same, but it’s more haphazard in most cases…especially with Sonic.
But the difference is Nintendo has put this practice until it felt like second nature and they have the *experience* .

IF nintendo wants these types of video game "auteurs", they should make a specific division just for them. Nintendo works with a system of teams that make different types of games. They could have an extra one that does the creative excersies that these game developers are known for. Or quickly establish links and good relations with them if they create their own studios, give them the certainty that nintendo will treat them good.

Also, the strategy doesn't have to be universal, i've seen some other comments and i agree that, for example, someone like Kamiya should be more of a partner than get into nintendo itself, he's very.... Disruptive let's say.
If i was nintendo, i would take in the other 2 into a special studio just for them.

I mean, I'm not surprised considering those born in the 1960s are going to be in their 60s and 70s, same with my parents, but that happens with each generation. We, as the people growing up in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, can lead the next generation of gaming in a different way than what our predecessors did...As a kid, being at age 7, and looking at movies I watched as a kid thinking "It would be really cool if I would take one of the video games I loved playing, and adopt it into a movie format that I can enjoy for decades to come, and basing it "Exactly" like what you would find in the video game itself but filmed in movie format". This way, why would I bother playing the same game over and over again, when I can watch a 6-8 hour video game movie of say "Mario Power Tennis, Mario Party 5, Kirby Air Ride, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit II, SimCity, Hamtaro Ham-Ham Games, Pokemon Channel", etc....I myself am not a good or great video game programmer or designer, but what I can do is take what I have played from the video game itself, through research to see what the game contains, and convert it into a movie format (that is not like the video game movies that Hollywood makes, but rather from the video game player's point of view, that's more personal and mature, compared to the kiddie running gag/dark humor/stupid comedy I consistantly see from Illumination, Walt Disney Company, Paramount, Warner Brothers, and Universal/Columbia pictures to name a few...)....And this is what I thought of back in December 2002 when I was 6/7 years old mind you.

I think Nintendo should act fast and hire Davide Soliani and Hideaki Itsuno to join their studios. I don't know if Kamiya has started his own independent studio or been hired by another developer, but since Nintendo trusts Kamiya's work with Bayonetta and Astral Chain, they should bring him in as well. Nintendo did mentioned in previous articles that they wouldn't acquire any studio or any developer that doesn't possess "Nintendo's DNA" or philosophy. But, since Nintendo stepped in to save Bayonetta by funding and publishing Bayonetta 2 (And we got all other Bayonetta games) and Kamiya got to continue working on it they gave him creative freedom, I'm sure Nintendo would want Kamiya involved if they wanted to do an Astral Chain sequel since Nintendo owns the IP. Astral Chain is an awesome game! Soliani's dream was clearly to work with Nintendo and Miyamoto and we all saw him get emotional at E3 2017 when they gave him the spotlight being involved with Mario + Rabbids, and what was originally controversial at the time, ended up becoming one of the best new types of Mario RPG games ever. That was like a WW moment. Itsuno may not be someone that possess "Nintendo's DNA", but Nintendo would probably want to see what he would develop for them since he worked on DMC. Whether that be a new IP action game or work on any of Nintendo's IP's and put his own spin on it.
These guys have talent, and whether or not they'll find work at other studios or look at making their own independent studios, They or Nintendo should look towards getting them on board to join NoJ and see where their talent goes.

I am worried for this unprecedented brain drain of the Japanese market. These are all talented people that are leading some of the biggest gaming companies. Which puts those like Capcom and Square Enix in very rough positions.
On the flip side Nintendo has been nothing but great to their employees. Usually when you get in, it’s hard to get out. And when you do they do get out, it’s usually nothing but good things with the only downside is working with underpowered technology. So if Nintendo is making moves, probably expect a whole new part of the company that is making original stuff.

Up until right before he quit Kamiya was vocal about how he has always planned Bayonetta to be a 9 game long saga. And there's proof that he was serious. There's a strange space station that is on screen for only half a second in the first game, and it's covered in an odd amount of detail despite being completely irrelevant. When asked about it he said he was setting up a future game in his long planned out plot. I feel like if he was forced out there's a good chance he would be vocal about it, but regardless the instant switch from saying he plans to work there for decades to resigning makes me suspicious. It's like if a politician was adamant about running for office and then changed their mind the next day or something. I hope he's not under some kind of NDA he's uncomfortable with

02:30 Okay, the thing you mentioned here is what the average movie production is...But on my end of things, people shouldn't have to follow the same guidelines down by hollywood unless you're going to go for the corporations of filmmaking...For me, filmmaking is merely more of "Interpretations" of how you see the characters, story, everything as it is...But even a good director could easily just make a sequel to the film that has no connection with the previous film, and either makes a good film or a bad film altogether....The thing is, my creations are just as flexible as the video games, because in my head, with filmmaking, I can envision it however I see fit, but the scriptwriting is the one that makes or breaks your film....In term, short films is the one that allows you to make proof of concepts, and you can easily change things to however you see fit....At the end of the day, what the outfit and costume crew say to the director have their own "Interpretations" of the story, "Cinematographers" have their own interpretation, "Movie Companies And Producers" have their own interpretations of the same story....So I do think what causes films to be disastrous has to be with people and crew/cast members "NEVER, EVER" be on the same page as the Creator, Producer, or Director of the film.
In terms of video games though is just as similar to TV Shows, Music, and Books. Books you can make it as vast or weird as you like it, but video games are more interactive...Hence why they're not given the same respect from both hollywood AND television companies compared to people who do play games....Again, for many Gen Xers and Baby Boomers in the past, they see video games as merely "One-Off" or "Fad" type of hobbies that you would play for a few hours, but that's about it...But for Millennials onward, they gobble that stuff up like its thanksgiving/christmas every year. So while yes, there will be errors, but it requires just as much teamwork and cooperation as video game crew/staff does....And let me tell you, much like movies and tv shows, there are many, MANY video games out there that are just as bad and awful as films and tv shows from before the 20th century....When leadership falls, the whole project fails and you are forced to either abandoned it, or release it as is and create tax write offs to cover your costs and liability of the project....But from my perspective, Video games are much harder and take more time to learn than DJaying and Filmography/Filmmaking combined.

Not surprised how dei, esg, or the crazy toxic activists have infected the gaming industries that limits what the developers can do and results of that causing to leave these major companies. And as of now, the games are made by carting to these weirdos and causes not only many game downfall (and series) but the company itself.
I already seen square enix and capcom are struggling with them pushing heavily on these dei nonsense that limits what games they can make and making it for everyone will just not making for everyone. Especially if the games are 99% for E and T for everyone and teen and no M rated games and those M rated games are censored to the point that it’s rated for E………..
What worries me that namco also got infected and may suffer the similar fate with the other gaming industries. As for Nintendo……. Nintendo of America is taking some toll from the dei nonsense, but the main company in Japan are safe for now with Kyoto bank blocking blackrock from buying any shares from the jp side as blackrock influences has been a major cancer to entertainment as their push for their political and their communist dictator beliefs turn into the propaganda they want to mind control the people, is a dead touch to anything that gets into their influences.
My hope that the gaming industries will get back to their selves again as we are seeing the damage it caused in the us entertainment, especially with disney tanking so many hits with 2 movies made some money thanks to chapek early decisions before backstabbed by iger and paramount is pretty much shut down after reaching bankruptcy with skydance buying paramount……

I had an idea once of a sequel to Kid Icarus Uprising made by Platinum games. Now, I think if Sakurai and Kamiya could team up to make a sequel, that would be cool. Kamiya did want to make a Star Fox game and Platinum did help with Zero, so he would have experience with the flying segments. The ground segments in Uprising seemed like it had potential to be a DMC/Bayonetta style action game, but the controls of the 3ds probably held it back. Getting the creator of DMC and Bayonetta to make the ground combat for Kid Icarus sounds fun. If Bayonetta could somehow make her way into the game as a boss or something as a witch that has come to fight an angel, that would be a dream come true.
As far as Itsuno and Soliani, I think your suggestion of having Itsuno around to take over Super Smash Bros if Sakurai wants to do something different (like focus on Kid Icarus!) is an interesting idea and Soliani could be great to have as a Nintendo fan that already has experience working with Nintendo's most important IP.

Hideaki Itsuno very likely left Capcom due to something to do with Dragon's Dogma 2. DD1 was his "dream game" and he had to petition Capcom for years to get it made, and to some degree, became their guy on DMC almost to get DD1 made. After DMC5 I think he wanted to give Dragon's Dogma one more shot, and he got that with DD2, which in many ways seems more like a remake of the first game rather than a true sequel or follow up. DD2 didn't seem to do super duper well financially, and both critical and player reception has been mixed, and I wonder if that middling result got Capcom to nudge toward letting him go, or if he felt constrained by Capcom during development which is what he might blame on leading to that result. Hard to say, but I don't think such results were conducive to him staying at Capcom anymore at the least.
I tend to agree that of the three creatives mentioned in this video Hideki Kamiya is probably the one with the highest likelihood of working with Nintendo in the future. Though at what capacity is a big open question, since if he's a known firebrand with a big personality that doesn't necessarily fit with Nintendo's relatively quiet image.

Nintendo has a ton of talents internally. So I don’t think they’d go out to recruit already established external talents. Nintendo also has a very unique culture that if you like it, you’d die with them, but if not, you’d hate it with a passion. The company is not for everyone or for anyone. Now for their subsidiaries like Retro, and others western studios they may have interest in external talents.

Large dev studios and publishers going belly up and/or downsizing, can only be a good thing, the industry is stagnant and rotten. The devs who are leaving and/or losing their jobs should form new independent studios and make games that are truly creative and free from preaching narratives. In a mostly digital age, Publishers are a relic of a bygone era. Just look at Pal world and Larian.

Both Larian and Palworld are not good examples. Yeah we had fun with Palworld but lets get real. It is a meme game. I would be very upset if Palworld becomes base line for game quality. And Larian is essentially lying to people. They are partially owned by Tencent. Around 2020 Sven sold some portion of company to Tencent. Also they are not small and new. I played their games in early 2000s. It was called Divine Divinity. They are following the same trajectory with CDPR.

I hope they create more games with Platinum Games together. A studio with a strong focus on action games, could help Nintendo to get a audience, that like those type of games. Of course I hope for Astral Chain 2 and a new Star Fox. Star Fox is these action series from Nintendo and they did nothing with it since the Star Fox Zero and 10 years before that Star Fox Command (I did not count Star Fox 64 3D 5 years before Zero). But 2026 could be a new Star Fox, the 10 years are then over. 😏
