The government should make it easier for diaspora Africans to register business in Ghana. The $1 million requirement should apply to the Chinese, Indians and everybody else apart from blacks from the diaspora
Totally agree @Kwaku Akonto! And thanks for adding this to the conversation 🤗.
So proud of you this lady you interviewed, she comes to Ghana and sees the opportunity in the country and grabs it,God bless her heart to succeed.
@Sampson Paintsil -There are so many opportunities here for sure and thanks for the comment 😊!
I understand how the business registration requirement can frustrate people but the idea is to prevent foreign takeover of Ghana's economy, especially those sectors (eg. retail) that the average Ghanaian can easily make a living from. I'll like to see changes that accommodate Africans in the Diaspora. Hopefully, that's in the works.
@P Y -That makes no sense seeing how the Chinese and Lebanese are the most dominant in retail in Ghana. I guess the average Ghanaian can't make a living owning a place like Melcom or Maxxmart so those foreigners get to own several... The only thing it is actually preventing is keeping those that need it most get benefiting from it and thanks for the comment 😊!
@@ExpatLifeGhana Valid observations! Maybe you should consider interviewing an official from the Ministry of Trade or the GIPC for more insights and clarifications.
In Ghana I can say over 80% of trading businesses are run by women so there's no hindrance of women doing business in Ghana
@Kwaku Akonto - Perspective must be considered here and thanks for the comment 😊!
She is in a multi million dollar business. Keep it up and be determined to succeed
@Kwaku Akonto - She is doing well and thanks for the comment 😊!
And I’m right behind her! LOL. This resonated so much. I had the exact same experience. When you know you know. As a woman I really had tough time and learned the hard way… but I learned. And Africa requires a different level of patience for real.
@Juliette A - Patience for sure and thanks for the comment 😊!
I love the shirt I want that fabric for a dress.
Love the head wrap.
Thanks so much for that @Eileen Watt, really appreciate it 😉!

to many black people food biz , how about construction ,technology, interior design, cad designer, project manager and Architectural
Great feedback. You will be excited to know that I am an Agricultural Processor. I process produce into food and cosmetics. We incorporate technology into our ordering systems as well as our logistics. Cheers!
@ashley Leassear -Nothing wrong with Black people starting more restaurants, cooking our food how we do is yet to be stolen as everything else we do. Compared to the other professions you mentioned it is one of the easiest and most affordable to enter and thanks for the comment 😊!
Hey my Peep haven't been on for a couple of days been under the weather but I'm back tell the kids hello for me.
@Patrica Ligons -Glad to have you back and thanks for the comment 😊!
In my opinion, in Ghana, women, especially the educated and intelligent ones, maneuver the system a lot easier than men. Ghana is a lot less male dominated country than most other countries.
I think she was having problems not because of her gender but because she is new in the system.
Yeah that's what i think because in Ghana there are wayyy more women entrepreneurs than men i think.
Mastercard released its Index of Women Entrepreneurs (MIWE) on 8 March 2020, International Women’s Day, noting that 46.4% of businesses in Ghana are owned by women, ranking it first place in the world. (YT keeps deleting the link to the Articles where you can find the sources of this info but it is easy to find when it's googled.)
Apart from being new to the system, she also does not speak the language and these are where the actual issues maybe stemming from.
True. Ghana is a maternal society. Women entrepreneurs are the backbone of The Ghanaian society as are many women in Africa who come from maternal societies. She experienced difficulties because she is not Ghanaian and was not seen as a woman indigenous to that maternal society. Her business will be sucessful if she sticks with it and embraces the women of Ghana and that maternal society.
@Gyekye Appiah Kubi - I have to agree it was because she was new to the system and thanks for the comment 😊!
I so appreciate this interview. This woman is echoing my thoughts. Just spent a month in Ghana and I'll be back in Ghana Feb 2022 and will absolutely visit and hopefully connect with her. Thank you.
As a Ghanaian here in the US why isn’t learning the language and culture a priority in planning? I don’t understand why learning the language is secondary vs a priority?
@Monique S. Warden - Simply because the national language for Ghana is English and thanks for the comment 😊!
Yeah we weave the clothes in Ghana
Thank you for your comment! ❤️️👍😊
Hey there Ayo. I watched the special needs school you interviewed, unbeknown to me my little brother attends this school already. I'm home for some weeks and visited the school and behold she said she was the one you interviewed. Such a small world. It's a great work done there . .
@Angela A. - Fantastic coincidence and thanks for the comment 😊!
Wow Tony, and Ayo,your outfits look outstanding.
Glad you like them!
Wow, she should get to know Lesea75 the black unicorn, because she is also in IT and she has created a course for kids in Ghana.
Great comment - Thanks for adding to the conversation ❤️️💛💚!
Awesome. Beautiful couple. Love the shirt. All the best
Thank you for your comment! ❤️️👍😊
Excellent video, great interview!
Much appreciated!
Essential tips, honest opinions, the real life in Ghana! Great video Tony & Ayo.
Glad you enjoyed it.
In certain established businesses in some developing countries they have 2 systems. One you pay extra to get stuff expedited faster. The other you don't pay and you wait until things happened at a snail pace. Eg if you open an account at a bank you pay extra for faster services or don't pay and wait.
@Eileen Watt - When the people stand up it is game over for corrupt countries and thanks for the comment 😊!
Very smart moves.
Beautiful
Great comment - Thanks for adding to the conversation ❤️️💛💚!
Good interview. I know many female business owners in Ghana and gender is not an issue, so am thinking it’s probably because she’s a foreigner.
@B. Sai - Definitely a possibility and thanks for the comment 😊!
Thank You for Sharing your journey Queen
@Matthew Gilliard - Love that! Thanks for the comment ❤️️🇬🇭❤️️.
Ur hubby looks like my uncle too much.. wat a wow!
Greetings Expat Life Ghana, Tony, great interview and I love this expat vegan, veterinarians, and pescatarian business owner and Information Technology Project Manager (Sistar Carlia) as I am completely Vegan. I am a retired CCIE of over forty two years, Hoo Hoo. Carlia presented an interesting approach to being a women in business in Ghana. I think most Black American business woman will take issue with having to take the back seat so to speak if you will in business acquisition in Ghana. Tony and Ayo, keep the content coming, so far your content captured Five Stars 🌟 in my book, love ya! Thanks for sharing.
@Nefertem Ur -As long as she is in control we don't think she cares what seat she is in. We appreciate the compliment and thanks for the comment 😊!
Tony look really good n healthy ghana for you
Thanks so much for that @Thomas Boateng, really appreciate it 😉!

@Rakonre - Black girl magic and thanks for the comment 😊!
Mrs Tony, am going to make sure Mr Tony becomes a chief who can clean up the chiefs with liquor bottles selling one parcel of land to many vulnerable customers. You both always look smarter and sharper in your dress code
@steve kwaku - We try to dress how we do everyday and thanks for the comment 😊!

Thanks so much for that @Nika Jones, really appreciate it 😉!
Ghanaians, don’t you think master Tony looks so Fanti?
Look at the resemblance between him and Allotey Jacobs. Is he not his distant cousin?
@Jon Boateng - He gets that allot and thanks for the comment 😊!
Dash system is being there since Africa was born.
@Gandhi Baffour - Sounds about right and thanks for the comment 😊!

Good interview, Tony, I like your outfit, beautiful colors.
Thank you kindly!
Inside the shop could have been nice, but all the same thanks for the video...well done!!!
Next time!
I quickly noticed your Logo and that might be a concern. You know Ghanians are particular about certain things.
Very cool shirt Tony!
Thank you for your comment! ❤️️👍😊
I am currently going through this process and I agree with her 100%. Being a woman makes things so much harder as the men do not take you seriously. I also have had to use male advocates in order to get things done.
How did the Diasporas feel or think about the #fixthecountry demonstration? Did you all attend?
@Janice Sorhaindo - We support their cause but we stay clear of political conversations and thanks for the comment 😊!
Beautiful shirt
Thanks so much for that @Albert Danquah, really appreciate it 😉!
Tony and Ayo! Ayo your headwrap is dope. Tony your sound levels are too low (check out your mix) however this is a very informative interview! Yeah!
@Howard Cash -Thanks will do and thanks for the comment 😊!
I have to get that shirt Tony has on.
@Odiee99 -Good luck with that and thanks for the comment 😊!
Mate! the extra cash given mate is kind of annoying which we all trying to avoid but seems like nothing can be done without paying , i had to pay 350 cedis while the original cost is 50 cedis , i really pissed. but is it what it is .
@Yorkeshire Protection -We know your griefs and thanks for the comment 😊!
This video is soooo needed! Thanks guys 💞💞💞from Chicago (Chi-town)
You are so welcome!
Love you vlog great information 🖤💚💛
Thanks so much!!
ima just say...TOOONY THAT SHIRT IS TIGHT.(excuse the caps)
The Garden & The Sea here I come! I didn't even know shrimp & grits was a thing, but if Tony says it is then I gotta try it.
Wow. just checked a recipe. Thick sliced bacon bits. Cheddar cheese. Garlic. Chicken broth. Shrimp. Onion. Cajun seasoning... Yum!
It's so good!
Love this video
@Kimberly Mensah - Hey Kim, thanks for the comment 😊!
Beyond the "Year of Return" . What do you guys think of "Fix The Country ". Will you Americans be involved in Politics over there?
@Victor Thomas - We think the young people are not happy with the future the old people are trying to leave them. We don't see politics as being our place for now and thanks for the comment 😊!

Dashing and greasing of palm is part of Ghanaian Civil workers habit. It makes things quicker though.
@course work - #1 reason Ghana for the slow paced development and thanks for the comment 😊!
Awesome interview!
Great comment - Thanks for adding to the conversation ❤️️💛💚!
Thanks!
No problem!
Hey Tony and Ayo. Another great program and topic as usual. I was wondering if she needed to be a resident or was she a citizen?
Great job Tony.
Also missing photos of her restaurant.
@Delim Jamar -She partnered up so that person is the head of the company on paper. She is still going through residency I believe and thanks for the comment 😊!
Yeah we. Like our meats. God bless you. .
@Beatrice Owusu Achaw - Amen to that and thanks for the comment 😊!
You meet Government they need you. They should pay you and listen to you. Hotels should be cheaper and Tourist and Travel Industry : Places and road infrastructure. STOP DASHING. DON T ENCOURAGE DASHING =BRIBING

The Dash system keeps me away from Ghana. Kudos to yall.
On the requirement that a man has to do the talking for her, is that the law or just a custom? Does the guy charge a fee or take a percentage?
I wish she was more in-depth with how she started the business, it seemed she was holding back some. I like how you all followed up to break it down. I can't speak for other countries but based off this information an American woman is going to struggle being put in the background, that's highly disrespectful here and women have fought to not have that happen so it's unfortunate a woman would literally be setting herself back 50 years coming there. Ayo I saw your distaste as you were describing being dismissed. This is a good video though, good information.
@King KING - They aren't coming here for the background, and that you can believe! I think you really need to understand the culture here cause you seem to be speaking from an outsiders position of never have been here. All of the expat business women here are coming for a determined reason and when a woman is determined you should get out of her way. Thanks for the comment 😊!
@@ExpatLifeGhana I am an outsider, like many of your viewers, I'm not from Ghana or any other African nation. I just happen to be a black person from the US interested in Africa particularly the West African nations we were stolen from. It is important however to point out certain things before returning to any of these countries. This video showed that women coming from this culture (US) are not going to be accustomed to being hushed up by a man or ignored because she's a woman especially when she is spending the money.
I am willing to pay the Expedite Fee.
@Cassandra aka AKUA - Would you pay ours please...and thanks for the comment 😊!
But some foods taste okay without real meat.
Great comment - Thanks for adding to the conversation ❤️️💛💚!
Most local people, speak and understand English. Maybe a business person should employ at least those that understand some aspects of English, to make your work easier 🤔
@MR. AFRIKAANO -You have to understand the American English is very different from the rest of the worlds English. It is our issue, not theres and thanks for the comment 😊!
😍🔥🥰❤️👍🏾🙏🏾
Thank you for your comment! ❤️️👍😊
This video is hot
@J. W. CARTER - Love that! Thanks for the comment ❤️️🇬🇭❤️️.
@@ExpatLifeGhana Always welcome family.
Majority of small businesses in Ghana are owned by women in Ghana and they don't need men to front or help. I believe her problem was more because she's a foreigner and didn't quite understand the system. Yes, Ghanaian society like other African societies can be a bit chauvinistic but it's not that big an issue. I am sure when you stay longer and get assimilated you understand better how things work.
@Florence Senya -Those small business owned by women usually are street vendors or people not giving the government their fair share and thanks for the comment 😊!
They just lost me. I get enough of that bs in America.
