Hello from Austin, TX! Thanks for this video. Always enjoy y’all! Sadly, it appears that Ghana’s government was unprepared to respond to the call made to the diaspora. The responses overwhelmed the systems and processes in place to make for relative seamless integration. You and other UA-camrs are aligned in your experiences and assessments… Am truly rooting for Ghana, wishing y’all the very best!
What you guys are going through...thank you. I'm sorry that it's not streamlined well but thank you for being there and being a part of the solution because you will help make it better for those of us still trying to come.
I am a Ghanaian living in Houston, TX and visit Ghana as frequent as I can. I understand your frustrations. You have positive energy with all the chaos. I hope the immigration staffs make changes to make this process easy. Have you inquire about how you can become a Ghanaian citizen?
@Mohammed Adamu - The process is delayed because Ayo's dad is deceased and we have to basically go through the system as if we were regularly applying and thanks for the comment 😊!
@@ExpatLifeGhana Seems like his passing set off a string of unnecessary bureaucratic misfortunes. The land, immigration, and god knows what else is next. But it should not be so. Methinks having a native Ghanaian parent (especially a father) even if no longer alive, should protect one from, not be exposed to, bureaucratic roadblocks.
Thank you so much for your sense of humor and your information. I live in Wisconsin. Never been out of the country before. I plan on coming to Ghana in March of 2023. I hope alot of this Covid craziness is calmed down by then.
This is how change happens, someone needs to voice it out and you guys have made that case. I hope the government hears about the bottlenecks and addresses them. Thanks for laying down the foundation for us those who planning to join the club.
So sad and pathetic. Very disappointing the way everything runs in Ghana. Oh and when they say come over, they really didn’t mean for you’ll to come and stay, what they meant was, come spend money, go back make more , then come back and spend it. No single institution works in Ghana. The bribery and corruption has actually gotten worse with time
Kenny Kenny…you cannot paint a whole country with a wide brush. First, have you been to Ghana? What is your personal experience? There are many working and functional institutions in Ghana. Some may be slow granted, but that doesn’t mean you have to label all institutions in Ghana like that.
The road blocks are not towards only foreigner but citizens too, I’m watching how long you guys hold up dealing with the Ghanaian system and bureaucracy . You’re now experiencing the real Ghana
I’m from Southern Africa and I love your channel! You do a tremendous job in informing and do it from a very honest point of view as you spell both good and bad. God bless you both!!!
At some point we need to bear with foreign countries they of course not America. They have their systems the reason why their covid cases not as crazy as the US, 40 million cases already as of today. They saying come doesn't mean they will give you a pass on everything. Let's abide, good to know because it won't be a problem for me. Thanks for the heads up.
This is SO real!!! It is ridiculous how hard it is to even get to Ghana (maybe African countries in general?). It is completely contradictory to the "come home" invitation.
I just applied for my visa in DC to come to Ghana for a visit in Oct. I was pleasantly surprise to have my visa mailed to me in 4 days. And it wasn’t expedited.
We all have the 5 year multi entry. What you dont realize is once you enter the country, you only have permission to be there for 90 days. You must renew every 3 months. I exhausted my 3 renewals and had to leave. Heading back in 1 week. They make it damn near impossible to convert our visiting visa to a resident visa.

I think the government embarked on the "year of return" initiative mainly to boost tourism and attract investors... They probably weren't expecting people to be interested in relocating so it's a shock to the system.. like "ooh so y'all wanna LIVE here?" 😳 Maybe some of these issues could be discussed with the office of Diaspora affairs (idk how effective they are but they have nice photos on their website lol).. they could possibly help mitigate some of these policies or point you in the right direction to make your transition less hectic Love your content 🤗
Yeah, they didn't realize many of us were dying to get out of the US. Office of Diaspora Affairs is speaking tomorrow about citizenship. We shall see what he announces.
I love you guys, the best family! Thank you for being honesty. You made we want to go to Ghana the first time I watched your video. But I instinctively know this is not the time. I'm just hopeful that covid will go away for a long time, so that we can have some kind of normal so that I can visit. Thank you I appreciate knowing what's happening there, it helps to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. Stay your same wonderful selves, GOD bless and keep each one of you safe and prosperous. Amen.
Though YOU have been in country for an extended period of time, you come into contact with others who may be tourists et al, thus may be reason for testing. Love your every vid.
I believe as more and more people get involved, an appeal could be made to the Diaspora Division of the African Union to start a conversation that would eventually result in visa free access for all people of African decent on the continent.
As good as that sounds it’s honestly impossible. Why? Simply because African regions are easier to access by regional citizens then it’s broken down to countries. You need to remember that 54 sovereign states have their own independent laws. Even a citizen of a neighboring country has it tough to settle if they try to move migrate. AU has no mandate to make a uniformed law on the continent. That’s not what it’s charter upholds.
Every country has it ups and downs but peace is vital. Ghana is African and peaceful. I've been to 25 countries working all round and I love the peace in Ghana. Thanks for sharing anyway so the people of Ghana can improve on service delivery 😊

Lesson here, DON'T relocate to a foreign country on a tourist visa. I probably wouldn't publicly post this video because chances are Ghana immigration services will watch and see that the tourist visa is being abused and used in a way that's not meant to. @ The Evans: If you plan to stay longer than the 60 days visa allows, start applying for residency early. It is not an easy process but we went directly to Immigration headquarters, didn’t use connections, nor pay anything. Filled forms, went back and forth 3 times. The second time we had to bring a reputable local to sign and vouch for us. The 3rd time we paid for and picked up our passports with the residency stamp in it. You pay according to the number of years you get. All the best. Some hassle some pain but in the end it well happen.

In January 2020 I applied for my residence permit and should wait 3 weeks to get my passport back. After 3 weeks the time had come, the passport was ready and I looked at the date. The UK voted to exit the European Union not to long ago and it was largely because many British people did not want people from Europe (Eastern Europe especially) to keep coming to the UK as freely as they did. She's a certified nail technician/artist and someone who owns a successful nail salon (another black woman) offered her job with no pay to work for 11 hours a day, 6 days a week. Nothing to cover transportation, childcare, lunch and personal care expenses. She attempted to negotiate some kind of pay and the woman offered $50 a month. This is what a successful, wealthy black woman who charges at least $75 per client and thinks that she's doing someone a favor by offering them an opportunity to work 66 hours a week and neglect their self and their child for $0 to $50 per month. I'm an hourly worker in the U.S. with bills and a mortgage and I could still afford to pay someone in another country $50 a week to do nothing or make videos of their day to life and post it on YT.
Why hasn’t she started her own nail salon or daycare for diaspora who were born in the States, Caribbean or U.K. and other European countries? Hello from Austin, TX! Thanks for this video. Always enjoy y’all! Sadly, it appears that Ghana’s government was unprepared to respond to the call made to the diaspora. So sad and pathetic. Very disappointing the way everything runs in Ghana. It ain't that difficult, you can apply for dual citizenship.

The African Union is an incompetent boys club that is next to useless.

A Ghana that I am sure many Ghanaians don't even know because they do not have the means to travel for pleasure. A luxury that some people from the diaspora can afford. So yes even if I come and spend the little my Pounds, euros or dollars in Ghana, it is still contributing with my LITTLE means to the Ghanaian economy at my own level. That is hows Israel was built. Devoted women and men contributing at small levels until a Nation was born. I would love to visit Ghana with my children who don't know Africa and who knows may invest on a long term basis. But yes if the paper work is discouraging, the I will go elsewhere.
The UK voted to exit the European Union not to long ago and it was largely because many British people did not want people from Europe (Eastern Europe especially) to keep coming to the UK as freely as they did. This way they are creating a system more like Australia and Canada where they allow entry based on the need of society at that time.
That why, I moved to Mexico 6 months free Visa, no covid test.

#facts. annoying loopholes to jump through for eternal peace of mind is apparently too difficult. The irony is that the Chinese are doing it, Europeans, Indians etc. yet somehow about 80% of the complaints about Africa comes from our fellow black American brothers and sisters. It's extremely sad because some will happily spend 10 YEARS in Japan just so they can "qualify" to become a Japanese citizen (even though the Japanese will never accept you as one of them). Yet you won't see complains about it yet somehow when it comes to Africa in general just go on UA-cam

@@eileenwatt8283 harass you? With a 200 cedi / $35 payment? Where in America do you pay less than $35 for even a hospital check up??
Get real mate. Y'all are acting like Ghanaians are chasing you out of the country.
I'm curious bush man cause you have some candid views on this topic.....are most American expats in your experience looking to assimilate into becoming Ghanaians or self segregate as American expats living overseas. Is this relationship to help build Ghana for the betterment of the people and expats????
I think Ghana isn’t the only country milking the covid cash cow. The rough with the smooth. Good vid both, best wishes from the UK 👍🏻
I hope those in the Jubilee House are listening.
Watching from Sydney Australia
You guys know how to turn a painful experience hilarious. You had the full African experience.
This is Africa. All you described is true in most of West and West Central Africa.
You think Ghana is bad, go to some other countries and you will find the same or worst.
You forgot to say Come and spend your money in Ghana!!!
@Joyce Cooper -Thought that was a given and thanks for the comment 😊!
Please get together with other expats and get in touch with the officials. Making it easier for us who may decide to come after....to make a new life and invest in GHANA or share the little we have with the lovely people of Ghana
I should let you know.
"share the little we have in Ghana" Statememt is offensive to many Ghanaians. They HATE the "we are here to "help" you, "Save" you perception..the poor will tell you there are many Ghanaians that are richer than you!!!.
TMH Yah have a place for His ppl.
@Dsman -Trust that the government knows what is going on and thanks for the comment 😊!
Shouldn't have to. The Ghanaian government knows exactly what they are doing. If you invite people to return, then at least have a scheme or process or procedure in place to facilitate them. This return is looking like a total scam. Where is Wode Maya, the evangelical who is inviting people to return and build Africa. Maybe you ought to confirm that African governments and people really want the diaspora to return. Only Rwanda seems to be sincere about having the diaspora return.
@@111pp7 I guess you are speaking for yourself under the guise of speaking for other Ghanaians. The statement is offensive only to those who want to be offended, like you. This family has returned to Ghana with their skills and experience and whatever they own to use it for the benefit of Ghana and themselves. Is that really offensive? Really?
Your facial expressions aren't that of complaining, rather revealing a culture shock.
Services rendered by certain institutions are still unreformed to meet current standards.
Its about the money. If you haven't left the country, I don't see why
@Afro G - Because you are not in Ghana to understand what we value here and thanks for the comment 😊!
@@ExpatLifeGhana so tell me
But I think I understand where you're coming from
How much money are we talking about here though? And in exchange for what?
I have been in Nigeria since January and it was costly to leave the African countries I was temporarily in to come here (TZ and Rwanda, then Nigeria). I'm visiting London my hometown soon to see my fam. I haven't even left yet but want to run back to Abuja, Nigeria lol. I'm so afraid to get 'locked down' in the UK. There is a certain amount of freedom I'm experiencing in Nigeria that is just not on offer in the UK, even though I was born and raised there. There is no way Im trading that.
I thought about moving there behind all that "Right of Abode" bullshyt. But after extensive review of videos, blogs and long distance communication with some locals, all I hear people saying is how they are struggling and suffering. They suggest that if you do come there, to have money to start a business because finding a job will be difficult and not financially beneficial.
Ghana is very expensive. You need to have money coming in every month.
@@AS-rw7rf Only way I could make it there while trying to establish something is if I was collecting unemployment benefits from the USA.
@@tjbooker9948 that yes many retire to go there to sip on their social security. I hear it is very expensive there especially in the capital cities.
Ghana is expensive, especially transportation, internet and some foods. Housing can be high and electricity. Jobs not available. You must have your own money. I'm married to a Ghanian and we live in the USA with plans to have business in Ghana. We will live in both countries. I like Malawi also.
@@myrtisallotey8928 what business? I’m married to a Ghanaian too, I’m from USA
FYI .. Black Star Line Corporate Credit Union in Ghana, lost 100 account holders money to thieving corrupt employees...
i had to pay a lot to leave ghana after covid lock down last year
It took us a month to get residency, after 3 visits to Immigration head office. We did not use any connection and no one asked for bribe. However, our case may not be the normal, although it should.
exactly this couple just spread misinfornation. they do no research on what is on offer for them to get residency just come on you tube to talk nonsense that is misinformation
Pram Accra, can u pls explain the process and cost? Thank u
Did you have a GH connection outside of immigration in some way? Like a partner or spouse?
Too much hassle. I'll go to my own country. If i were a foreigner applying for visa in my own country the process is easier according to what expats posted.
There is always a breeze outside if we have to wait.
Ghana maybe is changing their minds.
They are working on it, any moment from now you will hear a good news
@@jeffreykofikarikari762 hope so because African Americans can go to the Caricom countries that are selling citizenship and get accepted instantly if they deposit the money in the country. They don't have to put up with some of the inconveniences of Ghana.
Wow! This will definitely have some kind of 'pause' on those in the diaspora that was considering relocating. I agree with you, since there was such a big campaign for us to "Come back home" there should already be a process in place to streamline this process. Great video, The Ghanaian lifestyle/food/water/ is looking pretty good on both of you. #Blessed
Nobody is pushing you to ghana we Ghanaians started ghana ourselves and little by little we will get there
@@albertarmah8734 well tell your government to rescind the offer to return. No country is an island not even the Caribbean where they gladly welcome investors. Ungrateful.
@Cotton ForTheSoul - They thought it would be more visitors and not people actually wanting to make it a home and thanks for the comment 😊!
@@ExpatLifeGhana this couple always spreading false information. Ayo has never been happy. She is just looking for excuses because she wants to leave. If they had done their research they would have residency by now. How do other people from the diaspora live in Ghana of which i know many.

So now as an adult I can apply for Ghana Citizenship?.
@@kofow483 yes, you just need to complete your dual citizenship application (IF Canada permits dual citizenship as Ghana thankfully does)

Interesting... Can u post a video on the permanent residency process vs visa renewal process?
I wanted to come back to Ghana but it's now a tier 3 for Covid on the government website. It is all about making money off if us.Which is so sad to me.
Yeah because the US government doesn't make money off it's people. We're talking about $35, it's not the end of the world
Sounds like...how to squeeze a lemon. It is not a good look Ghana and other Afrikan nations for those returning and adding value and contributing verses prior to the invite home foreigners their not contributing but benefiting for self and there's.
Why when I bring up similar situations I am quiet up and my informationed unhelpful. The purpose of having you take another Covid test is simple; to have you pay more money.
Glad to see you are going through the same things others like me have gone through.
Don't forget; it was the administration of Jerry Rawlings and Kwame Nkrumah who invited you for unselfish reasons. I can't say the same for the present administration or previous ones.
A young lady I've connected with online from Accra said she can't get a job without someone proposition her to sleep with them first or working for months on probation without any pay. That's equal to almost $0.19 cents per hour. Knowing this is a single mother with a toddler daughter.
She needs to connect with other diaspora in Ghana through African-American Association of Ghana maybe someone there can advise her on setting up her small business and helping her find a salon shop location.
@@alanaweaver8942She does want her own salon to run from a container shop. She's lived there from birth, has no income and loves with siblings. No support from parents. One of the parents is on board of directors for an organization to help aspiring entrepreneurs but doesn't seem involved with their own children or their aspirations. Not so easy to do anything you suggested under those circumstances.
