I agree with you about the wide stance and that brick red. Brick red seems like a better option for when you're trying to make it look like leather or pleather, which doesn't seem quite right for this Superman design.
The A-Frame is such A Killer! Hence why the Batmn (Grappling Hook) & Superman 2 Pack- version is better, IMO. Back in the day I bought 3 Back of these! & Today I still have A Batmn, A Luthor, A Doomsday, A Darkseid & A Supes on the _Superheroes_ bubble card.
This superman action figure has that tough and stern look in his face, think of buying him to put him up against the cyborg superman dc classics and re-create the reign of the supermen ;-)
I actually love this figure so much I bought 2. I also prefer the head on this one. It's got a stern experienced Superman the other head has really odd sculpting. I would say the new Multiverse Superman has one of the best head sculpts though.
I have to say I think this head wins over the DC Universe Classics head, no contest. The DCUC head looks like some kind of surfer dude. The DCSH head looks like Superman to me. I'm going to buy this figure just to do a head swap.
You’re right the red tone they went with is awful and is why I bypassed this one for DC Icons Superman. I call it Campbell’s Tomato Soup Red. Anyway, the Icons isn’t perfect but I really like the colors they went with. Really want to get the upcoming NECA Superman vs. Aliens.
This face sculpt looks makes him look like David Hasselhoff. When I see what the figure was supposed to look like on the back of the packaging I cannot for the life of me figure out why Mattel never gave us that.
I love the DC Universe Classics Superman body because it doesn't have the wide stance and stands taller, but I prefer the headsculpt of the DC Superheroes Superman. I think DC Superheroes Superman came out near the Brandon Routh Superman Returns movie so I think Mattel was inspired by it and made the red more muted like the movie (though I would've preferred a more classic brighter red).
Nice review man, i agree with you about the hip joint, really sad. In my opinion the head make the figure. The plastic is better than dcuc, i own both too. Perhaps the new dc collectibles line brings us a near perfect superman.

I sanded down a bit of the crotch area very carefully with a Dremel and also a little of the inner leg in the crotch are. Be very careful cause it’s an easy one to mess up but you can do it. 👍🏻
Keep your cadence up when speaking, be yourself and real while keeping things upbeat. Review only what you like and don’t get caught in the “I must review absolutely every new figure just to get UA-cam views” trap. It was a little difficult to rip into this one too. I’d like to get one just to have on card. I see this Superman as almost historical in the line of various Supes figs.

My favorite Mattel Superman figure is the Superfriends version. I'm just a cloth cape kind of guy.

That’s the hopes I have too. We will just have to wait and see if the paint is applied cleanly. 👍🙂

I just wish they had have painted the eyes a bit better. The spit curl is dead on though.
