Paul Jackson Jr. on guitar...Nathan East on bass...Greg Phillinganes on keyboards...Steve Ferrone on drums...and Ray Cooper on percussion...with all the love and respect, I don't think people realize for a moment that this are one of the best session musicians you could and will get in this world. Ray Cooper on percussion. He and Nathan were in Clapton's Unplugged only months after this. I can recommend Fourplay - Between The Sheets live with Chaka and Nathan. She was blushing the whole song.
Sad that few folks really are aware of those names, who they are/were, and how good they made the music and live performances of that and current era. Nathan has performed on rock, pop, R&B, funk, jazz and it keeps going.......they should do more film documentaries on the guys who played on the records and live.....amazing artists.

Why she sing like that!!! Hitting the high note like it's nothing!!! Smiling like she just playing, if that's me, I will be losing my breath hitting the very low note!!!! One of the best!!!
Not bad to look at and dream about either.....at least back then.... I remember her Chicago and Rufus days very well.....she was that Black female superstar who did not sell out her body and do nude photo shoots.......not a Pam Grier.....but equally beautiful. Subject of many erotic dreams......
I have the same quality for Celine Dion's cover of Whitney Houston songs wayback 1992 and Mariah Carey's Love Takes Time at Arsenio Hall with the same quality.
I love Chaka and this song is one of my favorites…still speaks to me today! It’s a combination of her beautiful, unique voice, this song’s amazing melody and the lyrics. These lyrics struck a cord with me in the early 90s and still do in 2024! Thank you Chaka!!

They make it looks effortless ... immense talent. Chaka's voice is from another planet. And Nathan looks like he has 2 brains: one is playing bass and the other is just enjoying the act like he's part of the audience ... do they still make artists like these?
I know. I listen to this on repeat and try my damnedest to just be OKAY. I've been listening to the album version so I figured they had her in the studio prepped and she went off but figured live it wouldn't be as good. I'm depressed, she actually sings this amazingly without any effort. She's a treasure.
Exactly. She is a musician’s singer because she is a singer with a mind of a musician lol. She uses her voice like an instrument. She has jammed with some of the best there is.

Many of these female RnB singers were trained in churches when they were children, in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The result was that in the 80s we had women with powerful voices in American music. After so much training since they were kids, singing for them, ended up becoming like breathing, it became a natural thing for them. Today we, unfortunatelly, don't see it anymore.
