    Thanks for watching my entire video ;). The Petaminx came unstickered, so I had 1212 stickers to apply. I did 3 or 4 faces at a time over a few days. I don't mind big stickering projects because I'm motivated to have the puzzle ready to play at the end.

    Nice job! Like, seriously! This video show some serious dedication! I have just actually received a Petaminx of my own in the mail last week! I have been wanting one for quite a long time, and seeing your videos finally convinced me to get one! Have not solved it completely yet, but I have no doubt that I can solve it, because I can easily solve my Teraminx. The teraminx I have actually solved in one general sitting (with occasional walking/water breaks lol) for about 2 hours. This Petaminx, however, is a beast! I scrambled it a few days ago. This is got to be my favorite puzzle yet! It is just so massive and beautiful! I have been working on it the past few days, just solving a little bit at a time in my free time. Just finished face #5! Got a long ways to go!

    Thank you Pete for this. I do not need tutorial, can solve it by myself using logic, but it was so inspiring to look at your video until I got one of my own. I NOW I GOT IT. And I am proud owner of the FIRST petaminx in my country (Croatia). I got it as a gift after pushing everybody around me to buy me this twisting puzzle. So scared to find out how much time will it take to do first solve. I love petaminx. I love it i love it i love it. And I love every minute of this video.

    • @MarinaMatic

      I just solved petaminx for the first time no instructions or similar, just logic, and it took me 15 hours. I posted a video of me solving just one side. Pink agony is the name. I was always good with logical tasks. When I got first rubik cube 3 years ago it got me hooked. But I am a slowcuber. I solve it without algoritams.

    What I find amazing about this is that he can calculate, articulate, and execute every move while consistently communicating with the viewer. An achievement like this looks like it could be purely intuitive. I wouldn't be surprised if other persons to solve this were asked how they accomplished the task only to answer "I just knew what to do" In a savant like expression, but PetetheGeek gives a methodical and helpful step-by-step guide that is borderline understandable. (Borderline because the average person when asked to repeat the steps will probably goof and forget important steps in conglomerating each face of the figure.)

    I was thinking of getting this petaminx myself but it seems you're spending more time alligning the puzzle than on actually solving it. Are there any better turning petaminxes or is this it?

    • @PeteTheGeek196
      @PeteTheGeek196  8 років тому +1

      The MF8 petaminx has a reputation for being a good turning puzzle, but the way I'm holding at arms-length it in the video is NOT ideal; I couldn't see the alignment very well and - as you point out - had to put in more effort. It is much better to hold it closer to the body and I prefer to solve the petaminx in my lap. For now, MF8 is the only manufacturer of this puzzle.

    • @bouwmr
      @bouwmr 8 років тому

      I may have been a bit hasty in my comment, meaning I was at the 2 hour mark or so when I made the comment. Later in the video you do explain the not so ideal fysical position you were solving the puzzle in and the effect it has on your turning. At the moment I am at 6:05 where you just started on the middle wing edges. It is quite a marathon, even just watching :-) (not in a single session, I am in my 4th day now). I would love to see a Moyu 13x13 demo solve if you would have the time for that in the future. You have an amazing channel, not the boring unboxing/review of yet another 3x3 by yet another teen. I hope you keep posting the good stuff! On a side note, you convinced me of getting one myself now.

    I did not understand a single thing. I guess that's why I damn near flunked high school math. But this just blew my mind. I've seen so many people working really hard to solve the rubik's cube and to see this happen is just incredible. Incredible video!

    8 hours long? Did Peter Jackson direct this?

    • @mineturtle1000
      @mineturtle1000 10 років тому +6

      No, then It would be 9 hours long, split into three parts. But there is only approx 8 hours of content, how can he do it? Great question dear reader. He would fill the remaining time with unrelated drug references, a small and ridiculous mockumentary on large rabbits and the story of an elf that tolken never wrote about.

    Where can you order a normal rubix cube?

    • @ivnitroxb
      @ivnitroxb 10 років тому +1

      Rubik's brand cubes are available at Walmart stores and walmart.com . Also try amazon.com, speedcubeshop.com, thecubicle.us, championcubestore, etc. Do your research on cubes before buying.

    That was actually really fascinating. Without question the solve is impressive, but what's more so in my opinion is that in all that time not a single F bomb or any curse spoken. I know I couldn't do that. And to answer one of your questions, I think at least mid to late 20's is when many would try to tackle such a puzzle, but I wouldn't be surprised to see teenagers do this also.

    17:41 actually that's exactly how I solve it, Pete. In ring layers, so it does work. Ever thought about solving it layer by layer like a cube, as in no reduction? Not sure if it is possible or not, but that would be really fun to go for one day. I just finished a petaminx solve last night though, so I'm not too excited to just scramble it up again for a while. ^^

    Recently got a petaminx and solved it for the first time... in one sitting. It took 7 hours and 43 minutes. I had just gotten it, so there was no stopping me. But having done it, I can say I will never do it in one sitting again, nor do I recommend anyone try.

    OK, as to your question at 6:56 about whether or not you should have edited the video, I like this "raw" footage much more. Mostly because it shows what actually might happen (pops) if we (the viewers) would attempt to solve a petaminx ourselves. It also shows that even if your puzzle-solving skills are out of this world, you are still human (making mistakes), which gives me at least some hope I could do it too.

      Did you get the joke, though? It's a petaminx tutorial. All of the "minxes" (except for pyraminxes) use the same scale of size. Did you not see that it was an 8 hour video? I know that my guess was far-fetched, but does it really matter? I think not.

    Good grief. I only just solved my Megaminx for the first time (after like, 2 days because I kept screwing it up real bad at the very end), and looking at THIS thing, well.... yeah. That's.... not something I'd be managing anytime soon. I can only imagine the ridiculous frustration of screwing up THIS thing at the very end.
