@@Ghost19_ Not sure if I can describe it very well, but basically, when you turn a side, the pieces all go in a circle, so they make it so that the pieces are all rounded to fit that circle perfectly. It's actually really cool, I took apart my 7x7 once to see how it worked and it's a similar idea, I could see how the pieces fit together and would slide against one another.

Hey John You can do it with only 5x5x5 knowledge if you also learn center commutators, plus doing the ring thing he showed in the video including bringing the other pieces for the bar from the previous rings down for easier insertion helps a lot with larger puzzles like this.

    Impressed.
At Xmas 1980 an old pal I hadn't seen for a while suggested we meet at a bar for dinner. When I arrived he was playing with one of these new Rubic's Cubes. After half an hour I decided that he was just twisting the thing at random as we talked. As dinner arrived, after an hour, he tossed it to me, saying Merry Christmas!
So I now had a cube that I had never seen in its solved state. There were "how to books" available but there would be no fun in following a recipe, so I spent a couple of weeks learning some basic moves, and after I had a set of basic moves worked out, I was ready. I created an algebra, wrote down my cube's position, and a list of moves to solve it. Some of those moves required 12 twists to get one result, and several required 4 of those moves. So certainly not an optimal solution, but it did work.
Its over 40 years since I last saw those notes. I wish I had them as evidence now :-)

I might try a cube simulator! Also it would definitely be slower to reassemble than to just solve. It would be harder to find the right piece, I still only solve one piece at a time. In my solve I average about 9-10 seconds per piece solved, and reassembling would take so much longer than that to get a piece to attach.

Wow just wow! Aside from how awesome it is to solve these cubes, the engineering of Rubik's Cubes just amazes me. The repair you did, putting pieces back in, showed the internal structure of the pieces, and that gave me a clue as to how intricate and balanced the structure of the cube is. For a cube of this size... that's a lot of algorithms to memorise!

7:35 I really like this view of it, and I agree. It seems like hell, but just the joy of having done it would be propelling me forward

Words cannot describe your persistance to spend over 6 entire hours of nonstop turning (and pop fixing). This is what encourages me to keep on going when solving big rubik's cubes myself.
Also, I just want to ask where you bought that cube from and how much it costs. I really enjoy solving big cubes from how time consuming and endurance-testing it is. I haven't seen any more videos of you solving the 21x21 though, and I was wondering if you would still play with it. It has been my dream to solve such a big cube like a 21x21, and I was wondering if I could buy it off you for a decent price (you may know that cubes as big as these can become very expensive, being around 1500 american dollars). I do understand if you do not accept this deal, so I would also like to ask where is the best platform to buy big rubik's cubes.

Setting this up/lubing would be absolute pain.
Being the people who put it together would be absolute pain.
This being a WCA event would be absolute pain.
    But being on a plane,
and this exploding in your bag
    Would be absolute *_HELL_*
