    The reason why people quit the the USPS is because they treat the new people poorly. When I say poorly you get the end of the stick. Supervisors are cranky. I was a CCA for 4 months and cried everyday after work. I was left to figure things out on my own. I had to work 60-70 hours a week including Sunday with no day off. While people who worked 10-40 years would come in and leave by 2pm or have days off. If they were the change the health benefits and give us PTO when we first get hired in it’s worth it. But your really just trying to keep a job that doesn’t wanna keep you. Health benefits is important. That’s one of the reasons I left. And poor management and their LLV suck. I almost died in those things. I was freezing cold and crying praying the heat would work.

      Rural is a LOTTTT better job with a much less useless union. If you're efficent you can make out pretty well with evaluated route times. Plus we aren't forced to half ass everything in the office and fuck around for hours on end on the street because we weren't allowed to do anything more than case flats in the office. If i were a CCA, i'd quit the first week as well.

Management is flooded on day shift and they overwork you but don’t appreciate you. So Im considering quitting too and I will soon

  • @openskies2615

    In talking to people who work or worked for the USPS, the reason people are quitting/high turnover is because the system to even get paid is archaic and inefficient--they still use paper time cards you fill out by hand and turn into your post office. The cards almost always "go missing", you are not paid properly or at all after months (after busting your ass), it is exhausting to fix, it is unfair, there is chronic wage theft, there is no accountability. The wage theft/errors are so chronic, they even have a 800 number you can call. This is how bad it is--the incompetence and unfairness has been institutionalized. The bottom line with all of the people I spoke to, and you experienced this yourself, is working for the USPS is dehumanizing and anyone with a modicum of self-respect will quit. Even cleaning houses pays more and confers more respect than subjecting yourself to the thankless, sad, pathetic monster that has become our "U.S." Postal Service. It will destroy you (including your body, your mental health) and when it does, nobody will care. They will just move on to the next victim.

I can't stand being taken for granted...Im not saying throw a parade everytime I do something im supposed to do...but don't push what I do aside either. I think the one common denominator is poor management and leadership cause you get these supervisors in there that haven't carried a drop of mail before trying to tell you to hurry up on the routes that you never done before and get back to the office only to carry more mail. Do they realize people have lives outside of work?...guess not! If your interested in having any kind of a life this is not the place for you

    I worked at the Statesboro post office and most of the employees there had a horrible attitude and they treat new people poorly. From my first week there if I asked a question most of the staff would act like they didn't hear me or they would mumble a negative comment about me, etc. My first week there I asked a senior person where something was and she yelled at me and said "I ain't got time for you." I worked about 60 hours a week and 6 days a week, but the worst part was the employees there. She is right most of the senior people would take long breaks or just disappear. Kind of funny I liked the physical part of the job, but the bad people ran me off.

      Sorry for my late reply. If you want some cash and have no important social plans or a family to worry about, just do the holiday season. Because they will work you 10 - 12 hours a day. I hear that nowadays, if you get hired for Christmas only, you can request to do parcels (packages) only, or mail and parcels. Don't take my word for it, though. For most people, working at USPS is a very physically demanding and stressful job. Good luck out there.

    Marie, In 2018 the self TERMINATORS as I call them are the quitters who terminate themselves, it is better for the USPS because these are not the kind of people the USPS are wanting in their work force, don't you agree? Also the employees who are constantly missing from their assigned operation sounds like a Supervisor problem because they are not keeping track of their employees assigned to them, Do you agree on this? The First Line Supervisor is responsible for finding problems in his/her operation, if they do not want to supervise their operations correctly then they should be sent back to craft, this will be the MDO's problem then. A Supervisor cannot be buddie-buddies with their employees, once a supervisor becomes management, all that comes to an end, if a supervisor is letting an employee getting away with this, then the MDO needs to take action and put this supervisor down. The employee doing the not working thing, should be given some sort of discipline for falsifying their time sheets, not being where they are supposed to be, don't you agree? In my opinion the USPS needs to come up with a better way of vetting new employees, for one, I don't think HR is giving the correct information to potential new hires what is actually happening in real life as an employee, of course their job is to get the people in the door, in 2018 the amount of self terminators (quitters) was at 32.5%, that is a huge number, so that is why I say that whatever HR is doing is very wrong and that should be looked into and revamped, this is my two cents. Marie I hope you can continue to keep up with the young kids in the USPS. Alpha Mike Foxtrot, out.

    • @MarieAdventure
      @MarieAdventure  3 роки тому +2

      I think because the public only sees the people at the front store post office and the mail man delivering mail to their homes, they assume that that is what post office work is. So now they will apply at the plant unknowingly the tasks involved, a repetitive and laborious task that young employees 18 and above find it uninteresting. My former young co-workers left early, every week people are resigning. But my mature and older co-workers stayed. For the permanent employees who have been there morethan 2 years, they could have been an example or someone to look up to. But some of them are lazy and the new comers who are hard working are picking up their slack and that is very demotivating. I work in tech before and we get rewarded for hard work and innovation. The permanent workers work twice hard so the new comers work their A off to compete. But's the reverse with government jobs. Regarding with supervisors, in the tech industry we like higher ups who are not aristocratic. Because our job is hard already, I am a computer programmer and web developer, I also develop mobile applications. This job is brain wrecking, so the supervisors who are senior programmers have empathy to us because he/she have been there too. But in the labor force, it is necessary to be a tough supervisor because there will be some workers who will abuse the system. They are the lazy ones and taking too long breaks. But they can't get fired if they show up everyday and work a little. Anyways, the best part of my job at the usps is I met employees who are in the page as I do. We are there to work and make money to provide for our family or in my case I'm paying for my own higher education. I'm taking a course at Stanford University.

      @@MarieAdventure Marie, I enjoyed reading what you had to say, and yes the general public all they know is the window clerks and the carriers, they have no clue what it takes to get their mail to them (i.e. bills, junk mail, checks etc.) mail processing is and has always been the unknown work force that does not exist to the common person. In my time as a Supervisor, periodically I would give my employees official USPS Certificates of Appreciation along with a monetary award, these were for outstanding work, in my opinion , and they liked the checks also, I presented those awards in front of their co workers, I also gave Safety Awards, same thing as the Outstanding Awards but for Safety along with a check, 90% of my employees were either good or very good, the other 10% were my problem children that I had to deal with, you see a Supervisor has a progression to issue discipline, 1st warning, 2nd official discussion (this starts the paper trail to issue discipline), 3rd Letter of warning ( more paper trail), 4th 7 day Suspension, 5th 14 day suspension, 6th Termination, so you see difficult to terminate someone, I personally terminated 6 employees because I was determined to correct my operation, and keep it running smoothly, The Supervisors of today may not want to go through this process and as such just turn a blind eye, I that is the case they should be sent back to their craft. I sure your Tech job was very different then your previous tech job, this is a different animal, but the bad apples need to go whether employee, supervisor or mdo's. take care and as always from what hear on your videos, you are a keeper for the USPS, keep up the good work and use plenty of your balm for your sore muscles.
