Here is a recount of my personal experience working at the USPS
Was an RCA. Worked 3 days, and left. Once I saw the "big" picture I knew it was not for me. Glad I made the right decision.

I worked as a carrier for 35 years. The postal service I started with is not the same one today. I had good supervisors and postmasters and I had bad ones. The connection with customers was what made the job bearable.The postmaster that I worked for the last two years made my job a living hell.
I did 30 and I can relate to your post. In the end it just became data management from a computer. My last few years were hell too as the bosses were just trying to make some number.

@@rotcataergeht , well in my case ,the postmaster was not only a micromanager but he seemed to have a problem with me. He constantly harassed me. He would make derogatory remarks to me and about me to coworkers within my earshot. He acted like I was trying to get away with stuff. He assumed I was lying when I would tell him something. It was definitely a hostile work environment. My previous managers and postmasters were happy with my job performance. How this postmaster ran things is similar to how I heard friends in other post offices describe their management. Not sure if that’s how they’re trained or it’s the lack of training.
My experience was just the opposite. My last 2 years my new PM was never in the office and the delivery supervisors didn't even come by with my DOIS numbers because I didn't care. I only cared for my customers and had to use a lot of 701 time my last year.
@@tkjjw The postmaster is supposed to be delegating responsibility and not addressing the carriers directly. I'd write him up just for that.
I was fired for not answering my cellphone to cover my regulars call out. Wasn’t scheduled. Best thing that could have ever happened. I know see why “going postal” is a very real thing. Be kind to your postal workers

Basically every big night, big sporting event, holiday, Saturday, and Sunday post office expects newer employees to work. Regulars always call out sick since they don't ask for vacation because it will be denied. Regulars get sick days plus 3 non-paid sick days before they can be punished. Depending upon how much the supervisor likes them they will not be punished. Typically it is a letter on the 4th sick day with no sick time and then firing. Basically if you're getting to a point you have enough seniority to only work M-F some carriers will just call out every Saturday or Sunday until they are only scheduled M-F.
I made it to 90 days and then WALKED! Jesus Christ! I went back to Afghanistan...think about that shit for a minute. Back.To.A.Warzone.........I'm happier here, and less injured.

I’ve been working since 2008 and trust me, he’s telling the truth. Things are even worse now, overworked days and cca’s are treated like dog shyt, customers are even more hostile and Managment are even horrible. Demanding 40% of the work force to deliver 100% of the mail. I work in Detroit.
Yeah delivering in congested urban areas filled with low-IQ people is much harder. The dumber the customers, the more work on the route.

I stayed for about a year and 1/2 and leaving was the best decision I ever made. I work in healthcare now and the switch is like a dream. Even with covid it’s so much better. This job is a shit show every day and a numbers game. I don’t know how this place could ever get better
If you other alternative to a PSE position 8pm - 4:30 am was Amazon with 4X 10 schedule 9am - 7:30 pm with Thursday, Friday, Saturday off would you take Amazon over the USPS is both were similar distances away?
Used to think post office carrier was the it job for a person who wants to deliver stuff for a job . Like compared to a pizza delivery boy or auto parts delivery driver. The latter paying the least

I worked for the USPS as a carrier for 17 years. I reported the Postmaster and supervisor to the Inspection Service for breaking the laws concerning sanctity of the mail. The Postmaster was fired, the supervisor was demoted to a PTF carrier. I quit two months later. End of story.

I agree with you whole heartedly. Unfortunately for me I liked the job before amazon. Now the number of parcels has destroyed my body. I found out to late just how little USPS cares about the employees.
Paul Seevers what was the job like before Amazon? I had a boyfriend join the USPS when he was in his early 20s and he went in as career, and made a career out of it.
Amazon has made me start looking for a new job, I work out in California & the amount of Amazon they expect us to deliver is literally a joke, simply impossible!!!!

I used to fall asleep at streetlights while driving back to the station in the dark. So, I went to the doctor and got a work restriction. It's never dark when I go home at 5 pm.

I’ve been a regular for 2 years, been carrying for almost 4 and everything you’ve said is spot on. Management is incompetent, and shady as hell. It’s not worth it lol it looks good on a resume, it’s a stepping stone to something better. I’m currently applying for different jobs. I’ve literally been laughing out loud listening to you lol it’s 💯 accurate. I’m not trying to be a negative prick, I’m just speaking from experience. It will give you customer service experience, but damn literally everyone at my office is miserable lol even the ones who make $32 plus an hour. Money doesn’t equal happiness.
I just started as a holiday clerk assistant and was hoping to get on as PSE but I'm 47 with no degree & this is the only thing I can find that pays decent & has good benefits. Im at the point of my life where I don't have a social life but I come home everyday hurting bc it is physically demanding. I hope you were able to find a better job. It seems like you're expendable there but as long as it pays the bills and gives me some extra money to save and spend on things I want then I'm thankful for the opportunity.
And the insurance is fantastic. As you get older you need that good health insurance.

I work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. I take my lunch, eat in my own vehicle I bought. I love it. I lost weight, I'm stronger. I did fall while delivering. Hurt my knee and fell again and hurt my ankle. But im slowly healing. I listen to bible teaching cds and worship music the whole time I'm working. I love it.

I’ve worked for the Postal Service for over twenty years. No job is perfect. No person is perfect. Do I love my job? No. However, it has provided me and my family with a good life. We have put our through college and one more to go. I am thankful for USPS. I am blessed to have a great paying job with awesome benefits.
That’s what I’m saying I’m 28 and blessed that this opportunity came my way... there’s pros and cons with every job out there.... but a job is a job so is a career... but it doesn’t matter what type of career field it is.. but how much are you willing to be paid to do the job.

Just passed my 90 days. I get about 1 day off every week and a half ALL 10 hour days, typically closer to 11 or 12. Drinking like a fucking fish, struggling to hang on to my hobbies and skills in the gym and as a certified trainer. Stacking a little more cash and getting the fuck out. This place is dark. Real, real, real dark.

@@joleaiperlis5347 So OT calculated per day not weekly total so they could have you work 7 days straight at exactly 8 hours a day and you would get no OT. But if you work anything over 8 hours on any single day that is overtime pay. You also go into double pay if you're over 56 hours...unless it's the holidays then you never get double pay. The hourly pay has gone up some since I quit but most of my checks were between about 800-850 a week. Ok way to make some passable cash quick if need be, but it will destroy your soul and life while you're there. Fuck the USPS. I hope they collapse entirely as soon as possible.
Hello, I just have to say that you are on target with everything you're saying. I was treated like absolute garbage as a pse, and now that I'm a regular clerk my hours are worse. I work 2 am to 10:30 am. Shit hours but theyre needed because we are getting killed with Amazon parcels to the point its a miracle the mail even gets out!! So I converted and work at the MOWU and MOCU. Im partially parcel distribution and partial window clerk. I am now getting called nicknames by a certain mailhandler….even to the point where he suggested he would break me. This is our Federal Government at work? I'll go work for Trader Joes and get full benefits but obviously not the same pay. But you see, that's the trap of the Golden Handcuffs....great pay, awesome benefits, and an abusive, tedious, and angry/hostile work place.

BS. My signing up as a CCA eight years ago was the smartest thing I ever did. Now I have plenty of money, good health insurance, a good route, and I don't even work overtime because I have a work restriction. If I had quit when times were bad I'd never have the life I have now.

I think more people need to realize how they get their mail and packages when they sit on their asses at home doing nothing and ordering things and realize it’s not easy to get you that phone case, piece of clothing, furniture or anything else and to get you your letters, bills, checks, or paperwork from your job or anywhere else this is what your postal workers, delivery people and Waterhouse workers have to go through. So next time be a little more thankful.

Ha. Same here. I took a job as a PSE thinking it might turn into something full time being a disabled Vet and all, I thought I had my foot in the door for a career job. What a huge moronic mistake that was. I had NO chance at ever getting full time and if I did it would was going to be in some miserable little office no one wanted to work at. The waiting list for the office I worked out of was huge, everyone wanted to work at it and for the life of me I can't understand why because the place was a total hell hole full of miserable people who didn't get along and the management was total shit. On days we needed extra people, they didn't schedule anyone. On days like Amazon Sundays, where two people could easily do the break down, they would schedule five people to be there just so they could kick us out before 8:00am. 2 hour shifts, 4 hour shifts, 10 hour shifts, never consecutive days off, they were always split. The career clerks, most of them, were total assholes who would never help with the morning break down although we had 17 city routes and 5 rural routes to scan and sort, regular parcels, spurs and all the Amazon shit, usually 6-10 pallets. If you came in at 4 your were lucky to get a break by 9:30. Worst job I ever had and my best day there was day I walked in, tossed my badge to the post master and told her, "I Quit." In 30 years of private sector employment, I never quit a job the way I did there because I was never treated as shitty anywhere I ever worked.

Split shifts, working 12 days in a row, but still never getting full time hours..our manager had created a scenario in which the old clerks were fighting with the new clerks over hours, making up stuff to get the new clerks written up and get their hours cut...no actual metrics on job performance just he say she say...strangest job I ever had, glad to be out

Totally agree. They call the carriers so much it’s ridiculous that we’re driving our routes and gotta answer the phone. And they don’t pay for our personal phones. It’s bs
You don't HAVE to answer your phone. You can actually write a grievance statement and forbid them from calling you on your personal phone. We had a union steward who did that. If they wanted to talk to him (this was before the new scanners with the text feature), a supervisor would have to go find him on his route. I just keep my phone turned off most of the time.
Yup Jeff u are absolutely right we can file a grievance and win it. But they still do it. And a few times before I was a regular they would send messages on the scanner. Thankfully they don’t bother regulars as much as when ur a sub
We have to use our own phone for GPS, on routes, no compensation. Not to mention our times are messed up
I've been an RCA for 2.5 years and I love it. I have a full-time job too, but I really love working for the post office. As far as "good pay", that is all relative. I make $19.06 an hour which is okay in Wisconsin, but would be nothing in a major market like NYC or Seattle...etc. My full-time job has benefits and pays 54K a year, which would also be a joke on the coasts.
It really comes down to the people at your office. If you have a postmaster and coworkers who look out for you and you don't mind hard work, it can be really great. If you have bad people in your office, well.....
The real tragedy is that the onboarding takes so long and people don't really get to experience the job until months after they have applied.
As far as the mail trucks, why didn't we just have Dodge and GM make a bunch of RHD vans for the postal service back in 2008 when we wrote them bailout checks? The government could have killed 2 birds with one stone. Instead we have carriers driving trucks from the 80s while we wait for a committee to pick the truck to use for the next 35 years.
Oh, but I do drive my own vehicle. I have pedals installed on the right.
I actually like my old FFV for a lot of reasons, but the 8mpg mileage is a joke. It's an awfully inefficient way to spend the customers' money. Replace the engines with newer ones that get 20 mpg. Much, much cheaper than replacing all the trucks.
The trucks are a joke, no way we should be driving trucks from 1980 in 2022. They’re outdated & unnecessary, not to mention beyond unsafe 🤦🏾♀️

I got attacked by a pitbull within my 2nd month, called the supervisor, her worry was just the route not being finish. Luckily, I wasn't injury just a few scratch. I got traumatized for a couple of weeks. Quitted after my 7 month of working there.
You are 100% correct. I have worked there for a little over two years now. I absolutely hate it. I am a CCA and I got heat exhaustion in June this year, my manager called the ambulance and I went to the hospital. Well the Dept. of Labor denied my claim that I got heat exhaustion. Completely ridiculous. I have a $2000 ambulance bill and I was told if my claim is denied then I'm responsible for that bill. I'm trying so hard to find a new job that makes a decent amount of money. You're right that it's a toxic environment. You're spot on about everything lol.

Omg I just quit my job working as a mail handler at the post office. Management and this one lady who was a regular worker kept BULLYING me and treating me like the problematic angry black woman ! Then they played VICTIM when I attempted to speak up and basically were saying to shutup, take their abuse, and do my job. After this one manager claimed I was treating him like the bad guy and told me to just go do my job and this one lady told me to leave if I don’t like it here I was DONE. By the way, I ended up going on breaks late because the supervisor of my area didn’t care and forgot about me. I had a micro manager where I worked watching my EVERY MOVE and I had to tell one person I was using the restroom every time I went to the bathroom. I been there for 2 weeks as a Casual Mail Handler. I also got hurt at the job multiple times but I didn’t say anything because they preached about safety and were basically saying it’s your fault if you get hurt. Fortunately, I got an email that I have an interview today. I’m not going back. I QUIT! I also run an online business so I only worked at the post office so I can make extra money.
Congrats. Trying to get out myself. Was a casual last year and survived because of good management and co-workers. This year there's a new MOD and he hates my guts, and takes every opportunity to watch me and my screen to see how fast I'm going (just started a week ago as a pse mp). Willing to go work at Whole Foods to get away.
I applaud you for leaving! I’m a PSE and I was told today by my supervisor that they “own” me. They’ve said they want to break me and wipe the smile off of my face. I’m so stressed there but I need the money.

I was going to apply, but working 6 days 10 hour shifts. Nope, I have one life and a good balance is important to me.
During the holiday season at my office, we worked 15 hour days and the wouldn't allow the overtime pay until the holidays were over. I went an entire month and a half without a day off, no joke. We work Sundays too delivering Amazon. I tried talking to my union and they said that management doesn't have to give you a day off.
@@kimberleehinkley5978 that's a complete lie. They are required by postal regs to give you at least one day off per 14 work days minimum. That doesn't change at all regardless of the time of year. Call your local Union President and file a grievance. Trust me, I did the same thing but did it for *5 months* before I started standing up for myself. Proudly been a carrier for 2 years now, and I don't take that shit anymore, and I've also found a much better office.

Ive been a carrier now for 3 years, they aren't allowed to work you indefinitely, and you can grieve it. Also file an EEO for hostile working conditions and I can almost guarantee you a day off. Also any days off turn off the phone so they can't call you in

Couldn't agree more. I was hired as a Casual for the holiday season... when they ask me what shift I wanted, I said the swing shift which was 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.... my first 4 days on the job I was working 3:00 p.m to 4 in the morning the next day!!!! Ridiculous!!!. I couldn't do it, so I quit. totally misled me. I NEVER signed up for a graveyard shift. Plus I was not promised future employment since I was a casual, so it wasn't worth it for me to stick around.
I'm currently on my 5 day break. Been working for 2 years now, and I don't intend to leave (unless I get my degree and find something that works with that). The post office is the best job I've ever had. The management is the worst, but I managed to finally find a small office a year ago, and I only spend maybe 15-30 mins in the office each day. Mostly done by 4-5:30 and work 5-6 days a week. Bought a house, have a family. Its not bad if you can find a small office. Don't ever work in a city though, it will kill you if it doesn't drive you away first
How do you spend only spend only 15-30 minutes in the office? Don’t you case your route? Casing a route then loading your truck takes atleast an hour

Can I ask you is that the 360 position. I applied for the MHA position but it didn’t have causal or holiday or temp or 360. But I’m hearing that this Is what it may be. Since you’re on your 5 day break did you have to work the entire year straight or did you still get at least one break. Thank you so much I advance for answering. I want to get my credit together and buy a house give back to my parent both my mother and grandmother retire from the post office one after 21!years and the other close to 30. I know the work will be hard my mom tells me the stories but if I continue staying at a job just because it’s comfy I’ll always continue only making 12.50 an hour at 38 years old. I got goals ready for a change.

Everything you said is true. I worked for the USPS for 3 years. Evil does exist in the post office. The postmaster and the supervisor are evil people. They think they know everything but they are so clueless. A bunch of brainless Management people. The carriers are hard working people. Anytime and anywhere when someone goes crazy, we called that person "gone postal".
That should say a lot about what is happening to the carriers in the post office.
Dude. I submitted a voluntary resignation. Had no issues of any kind with being late or anything like that. Did not submit a resignation because I would have been terminated. But, rather than accept my resignation, two days later I was terminated. My offense? I submitted a resignation. Why did they do that? Not because it was right or necessary. Because they could. So now as a disabled veteran, I couldn't even get back with the USPS in a more suitable capacity.
I just quit last week. I offered a 2 week noticed and my supervisor made me work the day I submitted my resignation like a mule. When I was done with my route, they sent me back out. The next day I texted her to ask if I was on call, and she told me to not come back. That office was horrible.

That all depends on the office you work in. Where I am, its not that bad. There's those few supervisors that try to give you a little more work than usual and try to make you finish in under time. However, I make sure I get my hours and make them pay and regret they ever gave me that much. 💰 😈

Well, I can see it if a person has no aspiration to do ANYTHING other than this. ZERO job satisfaction. No time to breath. Take the job, lose some weight, then leave. Job sucks but the pay is pretty good. I was on pace to make $80K first year. How many jobs out there where you can make $80K first year, with no degree? Not many. As for job being physical I've worked physically tough jobs, post office was nothing to me in that regard. The problem for me was putting up with management. If it wasn't for management trying to push unrealistic time expectations onto new hires I could have done the job standing on my head.
Now what I'll say as far as physical aspect that sucked, working in the winter with snow/ice on the ground. I had many aches from stopping myself from slipping and falling. I'm almost 40, thankfully I take care of my health or else I probably would have been hurt. I:
Almost threw my back out keeping my balance on ice. Never even knew what that meant until it happened.
Hurt my knee stopping my body from falling on ice.
Hyperextend a knee running back to truck after delivering a parcel- house had a drainage ditch in front completely disguised by snow accumulation. So as I was jogging and hit that part my knee said "no sir".
Slipped and fell on black ice on someone's driveway (delivering parcels again) thankfully landed mostly on side of butt (not hip or tailbone).
There were other more minor things. Point there is the pain from said things went away after 2-3 days because I take care of myself so I'm very pliable and strong. That said, I'm also not getting any younger and I know any one of those things could have been major, and eventually my luck would run out.
That, at least in my case, was the troubling aspect about the physicality if the job. The actual work itself was a piece of cake.

@@brandonlevy8680 That's one of the main reasons I left: I was there only a few months and came close to some pretty serious injuries almost slipping on ice.
Everyone tells me the ice is almost gone, yeah until next winter and I'm right back at square one.
The big main reason though was because my bosses were psychos. Like I believe the one was mentally ill (bipolar) and the other was super-immature and would throw tantrums. Needless to say, neither were good fits for the job. Their pushing us to go faster and faster somewhat contributed to my injuries.
Two instances of slipping on ice but using something on my body to stop me: 1) About two weeks in slipping sideways did what I could to stay on my feet- the right side of my lower back completely absorbed the impact, I still get pain 2 months later. 2) Same but slipping forward, my kneecap absorbed all the impact, almost blew out my knee. I still feel it too.
Those were two big ones where I felt like I dodged a bullet on some serious injuries. I started thinking, "yeah I'm in really good shape for being nearly 40, my body is still very pliable- but it's not going to be able to just keep resisting serious injuries forever". I knew that sooner or later one of those injuries was gonna stick.
It gave me a real appreciation for not having to constantly walk on snow and ice for 4-5 months out of the year. I've worked quite a few dangerous jobs, but never anything where I kept coming so close to seriously hurting myself so frequently.
That's without looking at inherent dangers of driving LLV all day with all its blindspots. Driving itself isn't bad or even very dangerous, but when you have someone bugging you to go faster, and faster, things start to get frantic.
@@threezysworld8089all you have to do is cite the contract. You don’t have to work fast at all. And they give you cleets for snow and ice. It is a shit job but its not all bad like everyone say. Just need to play the game by understanding the contract.

Post Master terminated me, corporate said, no you are still employed, UI said, you have to take her back or terminate her, Union was no help...but that's ok, I have the best job now and am happy. A postal employee told me,,,they did you a favor!

This is the way it is for mail carriers: if you get struck by lightning on a clear day, they will find a way to blame it on you. There is always the feeling of a giant boot about to stomp on you.

It's much different than my previous Federal job at the Departement of Treasury. We had every holiday off and rarely worked on weekends. The USPS is the opposite.
The funny part is my office has people with college degrees showing up as cca's.... Make sure you get a degree that you are actually going to utilize for work. Or my honest advice would be to get into a trade like plumbing or electrician or something similar. If you get the right trade under your belt you can realistically take that trade anywhere in the world.

Once I got the notice, I amended my return and paid the taxes. However, my operation felt that it was done on purpose so after 2 years of getting the proposal, they let me go. Nick Biv All facts. Been a CCA for a year and a half. All of the relationships in my life are on the rocks, myself, kids, girlfriend, family. I told one of the senior carriers recently that I appreciate his resilience cause this job is for the birds. I’m handing in my 2 weeks tomorrow. I really can’t wait. True. Fuck that. Just retired in September after 33 years of thankless service. My niece wanted to apply at the P.O. and i told her if she did, u would never speak to her again.
Everything you said is true. It didn't take me years to find out but only a month. The first day in orientation the "trainers" hinted us of horrible bosses, we were never told we were supposed to be getting paid for our travel miles (to go into headquarters). It took me 3 weeks to find out about this. At the very last day of the "Academy" just because my trainer works for the office I was assigned to. I did my shadow day and I past out due to the heat inside that damn death-trap. Once back at the lot I met with the "supervisor" and asked her about making sure I was getting my travel mileage paid, she then replied to me, "I have no idea what are you talking about". Thinking she was being silly I continue working for the next 3 weeks.... Very bad mistake. I kept asking for them to give me proper training as I was not comfortable with the route, I met with the regular and the postmaster to made them aware of the situation, we all agreed I needed a few more days to understand the process and to get the route down. Well, the very next day, the "supervisor" assigned me to that route all alone.... It took me almost 11 hours to complete the damn route and once I returned to the lot I was met by the postmaster again. I told her I was very upset at the poor communication she had with the supervisor and I was about to quit at that very moment. She tried romancing me into giving them more time and that she would make sure I would get the training I needed. Once I got home, I was able to think peacefully and made the decision of resigning the very next day. It has been 2 weeks now and still, I have not received compensation for my travel miles or my last week of work... heck, I think they might be holding my mail at this point...

It was a horrible experience. I finally received my last paycheck and again the travel mileage wasn’t paid, it happened about 2 weeks ago. I decided let bygones be bygones...., until yesterday, I received another check from them, well let’s say it was their way to tell me to “f” off. The amount I received was for $0.00.
I will be contacting an attorney at this point.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get paid for that extra mileage when I get sent to another station 45 minutes away (like an hour 15 from my house) but nobody knows about it or will tell me how. The most ive gotten is that its a mysterious form somewhere on the equally inscrutable postal website.

12 years with the postal service. Once my kids were 18. I left! As a substitute rural carrier I never had my own route. The postal service holds mail back when the count comes. That’s illegal. They do it!

It's the worst of the worst. Getting your buns handed to you Monday only to do a one tray day on Tuesday and give every resident a Dish or Citi junk mail. If its a small package that fits in a mailbox, we should deliver as many of them as possible. As for loading up an entire LLV with Amazon boxes,, you need to hire people specifically for that. USPS has a death grip with Amazon to sustain their 6 days a week schedule. You could go to 3 days a week delivery and eliminate half the carriers. Its the only way to pay the remaining carriers a fair wage ie $26 an hr starting pay and give RCA'S specialized vehicles.. Get a package management system built so we can take more small packages , spurs so you can eliminate casing package reminders Living in the era of Grammy Gertrude to keep this 6 day a week schedule going is just plain foolish. I quit as an RCA 6 weeks ago , because I was tired of casing 150 to 200 package reminders on bad days, and my jeep was constantly breaking down

It's rough. I was working easily over 60 hours a week. One day off- that's laundry, bills and groceries- there goes your day off, now back to work.

I've been an RCA for 2 years now. I still haven't became regular. Its currently 5:00 AM. I haven't been able to get off the couch since I came home from work. My back hurts. I've been depressed since the pandemic started. Most of the time I'm not motivated to do anything after work. I eat horribly damn near everyday. If I had a bad day I eat a lot of sweets to make myself feel better. Alot of ppl drink and smoke. Theres never enough carriers. And now they make RCAS throw post because there is not enough clerks then we have to run our route and cover routes thats down. I'm over it but im not motivated to find something else. I honestly don't even want to work for anyone else after this. But they say the benefits are good once you turn regular. I feel like it's not worth it.

Truth!! I just started and already upper management treats me like garbage. If not for my awesome supportive coworkers and trainers I would've already been gone, but I'm gonna stick with it till I get fired.
I'm an RCA and what you said is true, but we are NOT paid to be on call. I'm not sure how it works for CCAs, but management claims we are. According to the contract only if you have a phone from the government(which I don't) we do not have to answer.
As a former World-class marathoner who once averaged 18-22 miles per day around a job & still running 14 miles straight every single weekend, I'm going for it. I am older, childless by choice, haven''t taken more than two days off running at least 2 miles per day going on year 4, love routine work and have trained through every kind of weather and temperature twice or thrice daily without days off, I am not the least bit concerned about the management or anything prior to becoming regular. As a regular, getting done at 3-4pm with $ and benefits is something I have almost never enjoyed. I don't love micro-management but good luck avoiding that on any job. If it's not your boss that hassles you, it's your customers. Take your pick.

I put up with it until they tried to make me wear a face shield at the window. I quit about 2 weeks ago. The post master was an ass hole. Everyone else there was nice however.

Don't do it! I'm a cca and have been there over 2 years, it pays well but the amount of stress it puts on you and how much they run you into the ground is horrible. It's not worth it.

I started drinking once a year on my birthday. Now I drink everyday. I've been out sick 2 months. I haven't thought about my route in two months don't care about it honestly. It's been really nice to focus on myself and my life. The job gets pissed because I won't sign up for overtime. I don't need it. Don't waste your days over working yourself for this job it only awards you with more work. They do not allow you to a work life balance. My mental health is going to go to shit in a few days since I have to return to. I have to hear the gossip, I have to hear the whining, the Bs I have to adopt tunnel vision again. I'm looking to change crafts. They don't care about your safety, I'm tired of cursing out management I need a position where they leave me alone.
Allison, I'm glad i listened to your video. I'm a CCA over at Newport Beach, CA. Ive been here just over 2 years and am just about to be converted. I'm having doubts about staying with the Post Office if it wasn't for this Covid depression and if i had the time and the energy I'd be looking for something else. I don't know where you worked but I'm amazed that our experiences and feelings are so similar. I'm looking at some of the comments below, at our office the supervisors were all good. One moved on and got promoted and another got sick and retired. Their replacements are horrible. I'm stuck in a route that no one else in the office wants with a supervisor that I want to go postal on. Listening to you and reading these comments have been very therapeutic.

I recently retired after 34 years and I would never allow my child work there. The CCA's are abused BIG TIME! I retired at the top of my offices seniority list and had a sweet 100% curbside delivery but I carried a lot of shit routes in the beginning. As far as my cell phone? When they issue me a phone I'll answer a call from them.
I'm an active carrier. Even if they provided me with a cell phone AND paid for it, I STILL wouldn't answer the phone. Reason? It's a time-wasting practice. I have a route to deliver and don't have time to waste talking to them. They can't force me to talk; they can't force me to sign papers; they can't force me to go into the office... That's what's great about having a union job.

Dude. I submitted a voluntary resignation. Had no issues of any kind with being late or anything like that. Did not submit a resignation because I would have been terminated. But, rather than accept my resignation, two days later I was terminated. My offense? I submitted a resignation. Why did they do that? Not because it was right or necessary. Because they could. So now as a disabled veteran, I couldn't even get back with the USPS in a more suitable capacity.

@@DragonFairie Are you telling me. The VA put 12 screws in my right shoulder. I can't do curbside delivery, which is why I can't do CCA. But could I just switch to another more suitable position? No. I have to submit a resignation to then re-apply for a new position. Because the Postal Service would rather train a whole new person from scratch than give somebody the opportunity to try a more suitable position, since saving money is not the Postal Service's top priority except when it comes managing personnel efficiently. Objective, a complete outsider who has never worked for the Postal Service has more standing than does somebody who has already been hired. And if you submit the resignation, the USPS will terminate you instead so that the USPS has to hire a whole new person.

Everything you said in this video is so spot on! I’ve been a PSE for 3.5 years & it is literally the worst job I’ve ever had! I’m a PTF now & it’s still just as bad but with a few extra “perks”! The most toxic environment, management is a joke! The postmasters & supervisors/managers only care about their bonuses. They couldn’t care less about your wellbeing.. It has literally taken a toll on me mentally & I’m so ready to quit!

It takes me three days to recover from one day of delivering mail. I've been working for 11 months but I'm still within my 90 day probation period. It takes me 10 to 11 hours to run my route, but i only get paid for 8 hours. I wanted to quit but i bought a van just for this job and until I get it paid off, im stuck here. If you have any other choice, do not work for the post office!!!!

I agree 100% with everything you've said in this video. I've been working there now for 12 years. 9 years as a sub!
They have 1,001 rules so they can say, "well we told ya so. So now it's your fault, not ours" It's all about clearing themselves of liability for having piss poor equipment, piss poor work environment, and piss poor long hours in usually piss poor weather.
The post office isn't run like any other business in the country. They will yell at us if we come in early to our jobs even if it's like 15 minutes, you're not allowed on the work room floor. Then when the clock hits 8am (which is the fastest the plant can manage to get the mail out to us and is usually late), like cattle being ushered from we scatter to our cases and everyone is climbing over each other to get their mail and packages since management yells at us to get out of the office and on the street by our leave time which for most is only like an hour or two from the time we're allowed to start work! Go Go Go, Get the hell out of our office!!! Then Go Go Go!!! we want you back and done! It's like they don't even want you to exist there. You have a 8 to 9 hour route and they want you out and back in like 5 hours. And they want everything done perfectly with scans and no missdeliveries but they won't let you take your time to case and sort your mail and packages.
Upper management are big brother bullies. The only thing they know how to do is to yell at their carriers as a solution to why the whole institution is one big embarrassing failure year after year for the last 20 years.
But you know what? For us hard working wage slaves that keep working there it's either this, the military or McDonalds. (most of us are too old for the military) and McDonalds wont get you off the streets. So the post office has no shortage of labor that they can abuse. And they love nothing more than to fire regulars because it's cheaper to keep substitutes to do the routes instead while dangling that carrot of hope in front of them that they too one day might make regular. And being a regular isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Like this guy said, you'll likely be working 6 days a week, have no life or energy at the end of the day and the check barely pays the bills for an apartment lifestyle as a single person.
Did I mention that every second of your work day will be very uncomfortable, very stressfull, very time pushed, and you'll hardly have a second to stop moving any one part of your body? It's not like most jobs where you have water cooler time and chit chat breaks. Nope, it's just a grind from start to finish. Often times you'll get dizzy and need to close your eyes because you're looking down at the mail, looking to your flats, looking to your parcels, looking to your mirrors, looking to the mail box, rinse repeat for 5 hours. You just want to close your eyes and stop the world spinning in your head for 10 minutes but nope! You have to get your job done! No time for that. Go Go Go.
and everyone will be up your ass btw. Management and customers. Half the appeal to this job for me was being out by myself on the road. But every second your out there someone is watching you like a hawk. Wether it be video cameras, old dudes on their porch, nerotic homebodies peek through their curtains because they HAVE to run to the box the second you get there and have been waiting all day for or management, spying on you with road inspections, Postal Inspectors or Upper Management watching you on their computers through GPS tracking how long you stop, how fast you drive and if you ever back up, this job will make you extremely paranoid, anxious and fearful while you carry through your work day.
Watch out for frostbite, Pee before you leave because it's your last chance for the next 5 hours, watch out for dogs that will run you down, watch out for bee's and spiders which love to get in your truck and mailboxes, watch out for that step down of your truck that can likely cause a twisted ankle and bad leg problems over time. Watch out for heat exhaustion when it's 140 inside the truck. Watch out for crazy people who will park/cut you off like a cop pulling you over in some high speed chase right in the middle of a busy road because they want directions or have a letter for you. Play leap frog with the trashmen, recycling guys and other delivery drivers who are in your way cause they follow the same route you do at the same time and love to park and place cans in front of the mail boxes.
I mean god damn, the list goes on and on. There's such an incredible amount of pain in the assitites to this job it's not even funny. Then you get to do it all over again tomorrow!

So cynical. Sure, and who else is going to pay me 50k a year with benefits when I never went to college. I'm 42. Mentality of a millennial....(just quit) because they can't hold a job to save their life. It's work. I don't like it but I do it. Everyone has to make a buck.
Novaximus I see but still u can get a certificate or something related to ur interest but u probably will have a different salary. I think u have a mission in that job just do ur best try to love what u do every single day with passion and respect. Week by week u gonna be happy in ur work environment. 👍

I never worked for the USPS, but it seems like how I felt when I worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts. I am so happy I'm not there anymore.

I just started working for the USPS on February 26th 2022 , three weeks into it and I'm ready to quit. USPS isn't worth it.
