If you pay close attention to the detail in every instrument and vocal part of their latest work, you can clearly tell a difference, especially Tim that really got his vocals to a new level.
You can clearly tell a difference, there's a straight line of improvement and an increase in complexity of their songs since Portal of I. It's very obvious when you compare Portal of I and Citadel, and I think that mostly had to do with Benji joining in on the writing process, because Portal of I was mostly written before he joined the band. Comparing the two is like comparing black metal to tech death. The two songs from Urn that we've heard so far are even more complex than those on Citadel, but also have a similar vibe that Portal had.
portal of i is unbeatable. thus there can be no progress if they don't change the formula. that's kind of the btbam problem too now. coma ecliptic was a failure, and now they got one last chance to come up with something to rival parallax but in a different way

Couldnt agree more. Loved portal,citadel not at all actually. This is more what i liked about portal imo.
Agree too. Much of the problem with Citadel is that the violin was completely overkill. Only 3 real songs, while there was twice as many on Portal, and the rest was basically violin wanking. If Tim has this urge to play an instrument a lot I recommend him starting to practice some piano/Keyboards and alternate with the violin, he he.
Add me those that didn't like Citadel as much as Portal. This sounds very promising. Dan is my favorite drummer and doesn't get enough recognition. IMHO he's as good as anyone you can name in extreme metal Duplantier, Kollias, Frost, Hellhammer, etc.
What are u guys talking about citadel is a complete masterpiece, i havent heard portal of i yet but i like urn. Its not nearly as good as citadel tho
Portal of I is dripping with this intangible sense of atmosphere. Citadel is where their production became a lot more clean. Exul is tied for favorite album with Portal of I

I am very Honored to say I was apart of seeing their very first show in The United States, they where touring with Cradle Of Filth. They are the only band to fully blow me away with their music at a live show!
I'll be honest, when I heard Intra Venus, I was a little bit concerned that we might be getting something we've heard already (not that I didn't like it). Well, I'm glad I was wrong. Urn is very much its own thing. Can't wait to hear the entire album!

YEAH!!!!!!! New Ne Obliviscaris! HYPE!!! Although, since this album only has 6 songs (4 actually, since tracks 1, 2 and 5, 6 are each one longer track split into two parts,) I don't think that there should be another single released after this one. We just have to wait impatiently and rock back and forth in the corner while hugging our "Citidel," "Portal Of I," and probably "The Aurora Veil," "Sarabande to Nihil," and "Hiraeth" records

The 3rd song from Hiraeth has to be my fav song of all time
The EP's don't get nearly as much love as their albums, but they're great! "Upon The Tongue of Eloquence", the first song from Sarabande to Nihil gives Forget Not a run for its money, in my opinion.
