Fun fact. This song in particular is part of the Sydney Conservatorium for Music's composition course study. Professor Hindson commented on the event, saying: "I will be presenting “And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope” to the composition students at the Conservatorium next semester as an exemplar in structure, mixing timbres, meters, modes, how to approach virtuosity, sound and noise, extended performance and techniques. The students will need to study 2 technical aspects of what NE OBLIVISCARIS have done in their music, and then use these techniques in their own classical music compositions.
Wow, I'm glad they caught on to it, nice to have some Australian representation in the circulium
wow! it's about time some contemporary prog musicians were recognized in an academic setting!
That's absolutely amazing.
@X E what about it?
@X E within the school system? Complete thoughts man. Im not a mind reader
One of the best bands I’ve ever heard. So criminally underrated. Tight af live.
I have never encountered someone rating them lower than deserved.
Pretty sure they meant underrated as in not enough people are aware of their presence. Two years later, I still agree with this sentiment though they've definitely been popping off lately. Can't wait to hear more regarding their new album 🤩
YESSSS! Your face lit up! Now Baard Kolstad of Leprous, please. 😁
Holy Cremola I was just about to recommend the same! Great minds think alike.
Mirage
Rewind !
You spoke my mind!
Illuminate playthrough
MGŁA@Mgła-Exercises in Futility V -Darkside-Brutal Assault 2019 (Drum Cam).
You will love it, that's where Darkside beats the sh'it out of not only
chinas but all the set. The ending is especially spectacular.
YES! I am really curious about drummers' perspective on him. As a guitarist, I am amazed by what he does, can't even imagine how he does the cymbal magic at the end.
ua-cam.com/video/wcsTJ1n2jkE/v-deo.html
I recommended it in the last video I'm glad someone else agrees, that cymbal work is insane
Darkside is insane. I wish he'd put up a playthrough of some of the Kriegsmaschine material
@@taperry96 there is some playthrough of kriegsmaschine. I'll look I have it saved somewhere and I'll repost here.
100% AGREED. That video is just mezmerizing to watch. Love Mgla.
Dan's kicks are unfuckingreal. His consistancy is amazing
Should check out his video where he does that for 10 minutes
He's so damn relaxed, and makes it look super easy. I haven't been this impressed in a very long time.
Something I haven't seen before is in the "12/8 blasts!" section, he's playing two distinct snare parts on the same snare simultaneously. I'm not a pro drummer but being able to pull of dynamics like that on the one drum head seems really impressive.
5:45 "He's just got pillows jammed in there"
That is because of the pedals he is using. They are very light and easy to move, but that means sacrificing power for speed. So in order to make everything sound nice, he throws triggers on the bass drums. Adding pillows in and keeping the heads super tight will make sure the triggers catch the slightest hit. It allows for him to maintain those fast feet for longer without having to put the extra effort in.
@@theterriblepuddle1830 pad doesn't bounce back as much as a real drum head. At that speed every bit of rebound matters, not that I can play anywhere near that fast lmao
NeO is literally one of my favorite metal bands. I played the viola for over 10 years so the violin really gets me every time. But honestly everything they do is simply amazing they incorporate so many techniques into their style of music.
Hello! I saw a lot of comments answering that consistent bass drum rolls under slower hand patterns aren't considered blast beats, but I didn't see many giving a very good explanation of what the term does encompass, so I thought I'd give it a go. Blast beats are a family of drum beats derivative of the "skank beat" that revolve around a rapid, consistent pulse on both the snare and the bass drum. The traditional blast beat is phrased as consistent 16ths, with bass drum and cymbal on the 8ths and snare on the off-16ths, played at 160-300+bpm. There are many variants, however, and some of the prominent ones don't follow this alternation. The "hammer blast" (the terms were largely coined by metal drummers ;) ) is phrased as straight 8ths with cymbal, snare, and bass drum synced, and the "bomb blast" is the same but with bass drum on every 16th note in the measure. Triplet variants are also common and drummers often ornament blasts with added snare/bass drum notes and modified cymbal patterns, but as long as the beat is still felt as that fast pulse on snare and bass drum, it can still qualify as a blast beat.
Oh yeah Ne Obliviscarus are awesome !
Should try Mgla Exercices in Futility V live (drum cam of course)
Dat cymbal work
Yeah darkside is insaneeeeeeeeee. There newest drum cam from drummerfromhell I think it is.
HELL YEAH!
@@Fvckedwithaknife Exactly this one !
I would actually suggest Kriegsmaschine over Mgla. Darkside shows off way more on that project. Something like "Residual Blight" or "Asceticism and Passion."
I wish you could find a drum can of gojira's art of dying. It's wonderful
There is one. Some Brazilian dude.
@@mattthompson1876 I meant of Mario playing. Not someone doing a cover
The best one is that one that starts with a drum solo. Fantastic intro to a gojira song
how about my last creation live lol
Never really listened to this group but damn they are awesome. I was reminded of Rivers of Nihil. They are death metal, but they have jazz sections with a legitimate Saxophone player.
React to Obscura | Ten Sepiroth - Drum Playthrough by Sebastian Lanser !! you're going to enjoy it for sure!!
Yo I said the same thing on another video!! It has to happen eventually
Yes Sebastian Lanser needs to be reacted on !!
Sebastian Lanser is a beast!!!
God I love Sebastian Lanser.
Please, get obsessed. Don't apologize for truly enjoying the music, especially when you instinctively rock out to it. it's such an amazing feeling
Somebody said Bobby Jarzombek in another vid and I just wanna echo that sentiment. Bobby Jarzombek is almost certainly my number one drummer. That dude's discography is insane
second to that. bobby is like insane multiplied by inhuman and raised to the power of openhanded style. but it's metal so garrett might not be 100% interested.
check:
watch?v=TXpFrexDJ4A
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BOBBY JARZOMBEK
I was about to write Garrett an Email and include this from *Fates Warning* (gotta' find some people to give this band MUCH more love): ua-cam.com/video/dwtknUNsCx0/v-deo.html
@@susrev88 - Yup! That shows Bobby is just as NUTS as his brother Ron :D Super versatile drummer.
Agreed. I was looking for a video of him while he was in Riot, but no luck.
Sol Niger Within By Fredrik Thordendal’s with Morgan Ågren on drums pleasaeeeeeeee
Morgan has been in some Jazz groups. That might be a name he is familiar with.
I 2nd that, but Garrett . . . . can you sit through the entire album? WE can \m/.
Also checkout "Mats/Morgan"!
This because you are a jazz drummer!!
The famous medley, of course! From the Swedish TV show Trum: ua-cam.com/video/_UlFI2Byzv8/v-deo.html

Check... Blake Richardson, he plays in "Between the buried and me"... AMAZING DRUMMER!
Thank you for reviewing my request!!!! 🤘😊😊. Mr. Presland is amazing!!
Probably my favorite Metal song of the decade.
Please react to Lyle Cooper's drum cam from "The Faceless - Planetary Duality"!
While I love me some Faceless Lyle, it's all about his work with Abhorrent
ua-cam.com/video/u6rlEmike5U/v-deo.html

The same video is also been used as 'proof' of demon possession.
YES YES YES OMG YES! He is a beast!
@@realeyesrealizereallies1176 That video is hilarious
Check please
Man should gotta check out Gene Hoglan playing Skeksis, it's a Strapping Young Lad track. Gene's nickname is The Atomic Clock, and I love that.
Dan has a video on his channel of him doing 16th notes on the bass drum at 210 bpm for like 10 minutes. Dude’s stamina control is something I’ve never seen before.
Hell yeah, Dan Presland is one of my favorite drummers, please react to more of his videos.
Check out MGŁA@Mgła-Exercises in Futility V -Darkside-Brutal Assault 2019 (Drum Cam) that's some nasty cymbals work
Blake Ricardson from BTBAM. Saw him last nght. Great drummer!
Such a good song. I heard it years ago and then couldnt find it again for many years not remembering the bands name. And when I finally did find it, it was as good as I remember.
That violin/fiddle really adds something else to mix. And the sorts violin lead part that is after the super fast double bass is such a referencing melody.
I don’t know any other song by the band, but this one is a masterpiece.
A guy that has a symmetrical kit is Gene Hoglan. He is actually known for being ambidextrous! Great drummer! He played for so many bands but is probably most famous for Death and Testament. Check him out!
Now *this* is an interesting offshoot of black metal. Y'all drummers amaze me. I can't even do three things at once, let alone four.
@MorbidManMusic yikes!
Check alcest for similar shoegaze/black metal crossovers
@@givemeajackson Alcest is great, found them from Peste Noire (Neige was their drummer and did some of the vocals on Dueil Angoisseus).
Yesssss!!!!!! This is what I have been waiting for !!!! Thank you
Dan Presland played drums on the Irreversible Mechanism album Immersion, which was my favourite album of 2018
Landed on your channel somehow through the infamous youtube rabbit hole checking out Wintersun and Messhuggah reactions and I sat here, in my NeO shirt thinking man, if this guy hasn't heard them yet I'm going to smash a comment asking for one. But you (and youtube) were a step ahead, recommending this video as the next! So glad to see the respect of someone within the field being given with such joy to these guys. You saying it's like a whole new genre of music is pretty much hitting the nail on the head! I'm also glad to see them flourish and expand as the years go by; I remember seeing them live for the first time in a crowd no larger than 30 people, and that's a stretch. At the time it was a selfish listen, standing before these amazing musicians and only a handful of people can enjoy it. Never would I have thought they'd become a world wide sensation, that's some shit out of a movie. Keep up the great reactions!
Dude, started watching your vids a few days ago and can't stop. Your reactions are some of the best. Your honest, funny and got a great persona. Also always very curious on your opinions. Keep it up man!!
On the Slipknot video you mentioned "I couldn't play with a mask on". Have you seen Nyango Star, yet ? :-)
For example: Nyango Star X JAPAN ~紅-KURENAI-~ DrumCover
This band is amazing. Glad you checked em out.
"Is it still considered a blast or is it a half-blast?" iconic
I’d suggest checking out Opeths “Leper affinity” or Fallujahs “Abandon”
They are both impressive tunes.
I hope Baard Kolstad - Moon playthrough is next. This was amazing too tho!
Anything from Baard! He’s SO fun to watch.
It's like death with an awesome jazz hand to it
I think there's something about 'non-metal' musicians reacting/discovering metal that brings us metal heads so much joy (even though you used to play metal as a kid). We always pride ourselves on being in this "exclusive, inaccessible genre of music" but at the same time want/love for outsiders to experience what we experience and show the same amount of passion. So this awesome! and even more so that this video is a reaction to one of my favourite bands from my home town of Melbourne, Australia. Keep doing what you do \m/
Big ups to Melbourne!!!
Would love to a see reaction to Archspire live playthrough called “New Archspire Song (drums only) 350BPM”
Would love that one too, I feel he's playing very different than most "classical" metal Drummers !!
Canadian tech death FTW
It's such a great video.
YES THIS PLEASE !!!!
DUDE YES
I love how you actually explain the intricate details. Down to the equipment they use. It’s really cool dude. I strongly recommend you react Luke Holland - Jason Richardson - “tendinitis” Drum Playthrough. Now that’s some dope shit.
These are fun to watch. It's like I get to ride your metal journey and I get to relive my own. You and I have the same smile the whole time we watch this shit.
i love this band
Check out Blake from Between the Buried and Me Hyper Sleep Dialogs, he drums the whole album, cheers.
You should react to the drummer chris turner of oceans ate Alaska
Exactly who I was gonna suggest
I LOVE watching your reacts, honest and fun, keep doing what you do mate!
God yes I love NeO. Dan’s foot technique is so clean
Great video dude! Please do Baard from Leprous or Blake Richardson from Between The Buried And Me. They're both amazing dudes
Strapping Young Lad...LOVE
...Gene Hoglan....it's a goodie :)
Just so clean! It's super heavy yet totally relaxing ha ha
never heard of dan presland before this, guys a beast.
Involuntary Doppelganger by Archspire anyone? Or has he done them already?
I was thinking the same
I mentioned it in another video. He needs to see it haha
I would love to see that
Boring
@@PeX218 yup, it isn't even their best song either.
Please react to dream theater's dance of eternity or thank you scientist's my famed disappearing act, all about that prog
BOTH OF THESE! or Dream Theater- the Mirror. Thank You Scientist - Feed Your Horses would be good alternatives
Yes! was waiting for this. Great as always. Love it. Thanks!
I'm embarrassed to admit this guy was new to me. Definitely need to check out more of his playing. Thanks, Garrett. Cheers.
React to Nils 'The Dominator' Fjellström - Hail Murder - Dark Funeral drumcam. and ull see the master of all blast beat players
MrMejh or vobicum satanas (drumcam)
THIS!
Seen it mentioned in other comments before, but I think you would dig Fredrik Thordendal and Morgan Agren - Sol niger Within ... ! Good content
Ok, I'm "subscribed" for the whole new great music, thanks for the recommendations people!
you NEED to check out Nils 'dominator' Fjellstrom. His band is called Dark Funeral and there's a drum cam for their song Vobiscum Satanas. Hands down the cleanest metal drummer you'll find a video for!
Checkout KRIMH of Septicflesh or Blake Richardson of Between the buried and me.
Voice of Trespass is great!
Krimh!!!!! 🖤 God yes please do a reaction to him!
Czarcie Kopyto are his kick pedals. I pronounce it Crazy Krypto.... lol
good way of pronouncing it ;) "czarcie kopyto" translates to "devils' hoof" ("czart" is an old school Polish term for "devil" - no longer in popular use so not very obvious)
@@grzegorzbalcerak576 that’s cool. I always thought that it was just the name of the person that made them.
its really nice how well the drums are put
That was awesome!!!
Hey, what's up man? As always good shit.🤘🤘
Yo Dave
Check out Mayhem's drummer Hellhammer, Darkside (Mgla; highly underrated drummer) or Marco Minnemann!!
I've listened to this song a million times but never saw a drum playthrough for it. Dudes insane.
Sebastian Lanser- anticosmic overload, he’s a Jazz drummer and a tech death drummer super insane!
Septicflesh, drummer Krimh, The vampire from Nazareth
Any chance you take a look at fairly unknown russian drummer Evgeny Novikov from Katalepsy? The song is 'Blinded Sultan'.
Love the videos btw, keep it up!
Leprous - Illuminate!
You'll certainly love it 🖤
Blast beat is only when Kick and Snare alter super quick like on 8:30 . Fast double kick can be considered as carpet roll or just double kick - part :)
It's not even about their playing! Ne obliviscaris is made out if great composers!
( Btw check out Mgla for full shuffle experience xD )
Dude you need to react to Blake Richardson's Famine Wolf. I'm sure you'll love it
the whole hypersleep dialogues would be nice haha
my fav band!
Loving this! 🤘
Try doing 66Samus playing Devin Townsend's "Hear Me." There's a great closeup video on UA-cam, he's a UA-camr with a lot of subs, and the blast beat stuff in it is nuts. Devin Townsend reaction videos will draw traffic in general.
It's filmed, actually. In editing and have a supplemental lesson video to film to go with it but yes, that's a really great bit of work by Sam.
@@garrettmillerdrums Awesome! Devin's drummers are all nuts; there's another similar video from Anup Sastry playing part of a song called Singularity which is less heavy and really great too. Love the channel, keep it up!
Please React to Mike mangini Drum solo at Luna Park
Love the content man, keep em coming! Hope the channel keeps growing
Now go check it out live in Colorado, where you can get a good feel for what the rest of the band are doing. Particularly, the bassist, lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist, vocalists and violinist.
"That's like a whole new genre of music" Ne Obliviscaris is kinda avant-garde so you're pretty close
Luke Holland ft. Jason Richardson - any song. GO!
This band is awesome! Great Live! Australian and I am proud of them!
You neeeed to do Nostrum by Meshuggah. The handwork is out of this world and the music itself is so atmospheric and impressive.
You should react to Matt halpern playing "the way the news goes" at the meinl drum festival.
Love how ALL comments are reaction suggestions.. if you have a day job, better quit to stay ahead haha
Well, thanks for introducing me to a band!
Awesome!! Thanks for checkin it out
afaik, fast doublebass with no fast "alternating" snare hit is not a blast beat. a "proper" blast beat is essentially a polka beat played at least at 180bpm or thereabouts (i think Cannibal Corpse is at the slowest end of the spectrum)
You're both wrong.
Wrong :D
A blast beat is a single stroke roll on the snare and kick, not simply double bass. Just an fyi, not trying to be that guy.
Some of the most atmospheric drumming I've ever heard, thanks to everyone who recommended it! :D
You are shown to me by the youtube algorithm and it sure does know what I like to watch! Loved the reaction, will be checking out more vids!
Oh man i can't believe you did this video this is one of my all time favourite videos from one of my all time favourite bands. Their musicianship is something to be appreciated, from all members.
DUDE IS A BEAST 🤘🤘
This dude was so good
Wow! I love this channel! 🤘🏽
Cool to see you appreciate the technique that goes in to play extreme metal
I'm so hooked on this channel I'm watching him react to songs I don't even know. Congrats on growing so fast my man
"Blast beats" are normally just 16th notes on hands in some way or another, it can be alternating (traditional) or hitting at same time (hammer blast), when it's just feet it's just "double bass".
It's really great seeing a jazz drummer being amazed by some metal stuff, keep it on, it's really cool to see :)
