What a great video!. You took your time and explained everything. I noticed that you were also missing the dust cap on the top end of the cable. I am a 68 year old woman and I just finished putting on my blade today. Thank you so much.
Glad I found this video. Blade was given to me by my neighbor for the D130. Missing the 2 frame brackets, I am. And a couple of pins. Now I know what I need and have to visit the nearest Deere dealer.
Thank you for the video, after watching your video, I figured out how the blade goes up and down. I could not figure it out. Thanks again it was a very useful video.
Great step-by-step video. I just ordered my blade from Home Depot it should be here in a couple of weeks and I will look forward to watching this video again as I install it. Thank you for taking the time to make it and sharing.
Yea Good Job Putting Video Together! The Manual Looks Hard To Follow Along! I Started Putting Mine Together with Manual But Gave up & Followed Your Video! Extremely Helpful Dam Good Job!👍
Great Video! I wish I had found this one earlier today. I had to put mine together with no instructions and the video I found was not the greatest quality. Excellent job!
Awesome job, my friend! I've been struggling with mounting a 46" on my S240, and you helped me with the last piece of the puzzle (mounting the pivot piece). I have my moments where I'm mechanically inclined and can do things like this, and then there's times I feel like a monkey sitting at a chessboard!
I have a plow attached to a completely different brand tractor that is likely out of commission for good. The side brackets are attached upside down and backwards on our other tractor to make it work lol. Now i know how it actually mounts so i can transfer it to my john deere hopefully. My side plates look slightly different but fairly close.
Thanks for the great video...well done. How do I get the manual for this assembly of everything and the bolt and bracket parts? John Deere site has been useless. Any help would be helpful since I picked up a NOS, never installed snow blade and all the metal parts but no assembly parts or L brackets for the cables. The guy lied about this sale and I figured no big deal to get the parts or even the manual...well, I was wrong. Any help would be great.
how high off the ground should the blade be when pulled up?...mine will only raise 3 inches at the most!...and i know thats not correct...any ideas on fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated..thanks
@@britishinvader Maybe check to ensure your lift arm brackets on the deck are at the correct heights/proper, check the lift arms connected to the tractor lift lever are clear of debris or not bent
Thanks for the great video, instructions were rough. I noticed that towards the end when I tried to attach the pivot arm into the pivot support bracket I think I was missing a part. That loose pin you mentioned needing a helper for? Not listed as a part but my bracket didn’t come with it. Do you know what it’s called? Not even listed on the John deere parts website. And even in your video the parts just “appear” from your rough assemble to the finished part. Any thoughts?
Great instructional video (I watched it first before I bought the blade and referred to it during the build - excellent!). One question: The instructions say that I must remove the mower deck, but it looks like you left yours on. Did you encounter any problems with that? Thank you!
When you remove the mower deck to use this thing, there is a spring mechanism you unhook off of the mower deck that comes from the front of the tractor - do you hook that somewhere so it doesn't get caught on something? You obviously can't remove it completely
@brandonwebb9428 - I've gone from mowing to plowing for 10 years now with this set up and I just run the deck engagement cable from the front down along the frame towards the deck height linkage just in front of the rear wheels then make a "U" turn with it and run it parallel back along the rail towards the front attaching the spring end to the deck guide linkage post with the clip secure pin to take up all of the cable length slack, use a couple cable zip ties around the looped cable and secure it all along to the side frame rail, when you are ready to install the deck in the spring just cut off the cable zip ties to remove the deck cable, I also secure the deck height adjustment linkage to the frame rails on both sides using cable ties too. Starting this year I don't have to do this anymore because I designated this a winter plowing tractor only & bought a new summer mowing tractor! 😊
The cable and spring that applies tension to the idler pully and actuates the blades. I ended up coiling it and securing with zip ties inside the engine compartment, disconnecting it from underneath the dashboard tested my patience
Sales woman at my JD shop dissuaded from buying a blade saying a 160 is not powerful enough to do the job and I would be dissatisfied. What say ye, ye who have the experience?
Our S180 works just fine. We have rear tire chains and I’ll probably get a couple of weights for it. You just can’t let the snow get packed down by vehicles. Just clear the snow before too many people drive on it.

I echo that. It was a rough go using just the manual. You brought it to life. Ta very much!!
Great news. I made the video just because of that, the build instructions were not the greatest.

Do you have the part number for this kit, and also did the plow kit come with the front hitch mount or was that was that assembly separate?

The channel pivot pin ?
It’s shown on page 15 of the H5 issue manual.
@MiamiPolarbear
Is this the original person requesting? Brian?
can you leave the plow on year round?
Yes. You can use it for light duty stuff too. Mulch, topsoil etc you just have to work it within its limit and the machine.

That’s good to hear. Our mower deck
Is wider than the blade so we have to take it off or it starts catching on all the snow beyond the blade path.
Good point that I hadn't considered. I'll have to see whether that applies to my mower deck (two blades, not three).
Thank you!

Ours doesn’t have a spring on the front. It has a shaped bolt with a nut used for levelling the deck

I'm putting my blade on today, opted to remove mower and wondering what to do with the drive cable?
Are you referring to the belt that runs the mower blades or the cable that operates the plow right/Centre/left positions ?
The cable and spring that applies tension to the idler pully and actuates the blades. I ended up coiling it and securing with zip ties inside the engine compartment, disconnecting it from underneath the dashboard tested my patience

Would This work on a L111
I’m not sure.
Best to call JD and get their recommendations.
@@AllaroundNbackagain thanks
Does it work on gravel driveways?
Possibly once you get a packed/frozen layer down but not too sure to be honest.
Why do these things cost so much? Like it's cheaper to buy a new snow blower.
A 46” wide snowblower would easily be 3-4 times more expensive than this blade.
@@AllaroundNbackagain yeah my bad, at first I thought this video was about the snowblower attachment. Now THOSE are insanely expensive.

@@AllaroundNbackagain thanks. What’s the deepest you’ve plowed? How about wet snow?
@AllaroundNbackagain did you outfit your 160? If so, how is it?
I did and used it 3? times last winter. Works fine with up to 8” of fairly light snow. Beyond those parameters not so great.
I haven't decided on the weight kit, it seems pricey and I do have chains.
