I can't seem to achieve the 31mph top speed, even though my p08 setting was already preset to 100. Just noticed the part in the video regarding p14, and mine was default set at 15, so I moved it to 20 as you recommended.

P10 setting is also handy if you want pedal assist to start quicker. I found out that it takes very long for pedal assist to start working in setting 0 (only pedal assist). With setting 2 (the combined pedal assist and throttle) the pedal assist starts with half a pedal rotation, while setting 0 starts at 3 pedal rotations

I just commented about the wheel size setting in another video on this bike. Seeing you have it set to max power it seems like setting the wheel size to 12 in could get it to 33-35 mph. Also it looks like the seat could be modified easily enough to make room for a gas tank battery. Good for distance but top-heavy for off road.
I tried to change wheel sizento smaller like i did in my sondors to increase speed but no luck. Top speed stayed the same at 31 mph. Most likely can’t get much more from battery and controller maxed out at 20 anps
I just ordered a Q20, should be receiving it in about 1½-2 weeks time.

Happy I found your site. I just bought 2 of these. The shut down when the brakes are used. One the rear break light stays on, we cannot make this one work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
I had this happen on another ebike and I flicked the brake lever to get the brake light to turn off and to work. If the issue persists unplug the motor cut off cable for that brake lever from controller under the seat until seller can send you replacement lever
Dude! An outstanding Video!! Thank you so much!!! Going through the advanced settings to the controller was just a huge help. Exactly what I needed. Especially to achieve the bikes fastest possible setting. I really thought I was going to get more power out of it, since I own a Bagi Bike, that only has a Bfang 500 Watt motor, 48V 13 AH battery and it does 31 MPH no problem. I thought for sure this bike would smoke it, because of the 1,000 watt, much bigger, and more wattage motor, yet it did not yield what I expected.

The Q20s 1000W motor is should be torquer or faster acceleration then 500w bike. I heard from other comments that the 13Ah version may have different controller and might be slower. As for top speed the physics won’t allow much faster speed. $5000 super73 with 48V only have top speed of 32-33mph. To go faster you’ll need 52V or 60V but then the bike weights 120 lbs
This works for the Ridstar H20 folding bike too. Was able to increase the current limit to max out the power.

@@kennyandrade267 the AMPs is the current limit. You can pretty much max out most of the settings that limit performance. You just don’t want to change things like tire size. The performance limits are to allow the bike to qualify as a Class 3 bike for “legal” road use.
It appears that an ebike would be a worthwhile investment for me. Riding one appears to be an enjoyable experience, and I believe it would be beneficial for personal reflection and relaxation.

i have a ridstart and everything is perfect besides the battery life. how do i get the full 20 minles throttle only. bc when i throttle and loot at the voltage, it’s taking so much power out temporarily dropping to 46.3 and lower for lower initial battery percentage
What is the voltage fully charged with no throttle? Should be at least 54.5V or more and then under throttle drop to 51V
Man this is nice to figure out I was sent the Q20 Lite instead of the regular Q20 I purchased. Cheers for helping me find that out at least. Wild they actually sent me the wrong bike.

Hey B Rich! Just got this bike and was working like a charm yesterday and today. As I was leaving to go somewhere, the power shut off when I was at a light and the screen for the M5 display will not turn on. The battery is fully charged and I also have the 20 Amp model. Any suggestions? All of the connectors are firm and I cant find any wiring issues as I did take the seat off and everything is connected. Now none of the electronic components are working at all.Any help is appreciated, Thank you! (Also was running at 12A/48V before this happened)
check the voltage on the back of the battery with voltmeter? are you getting at least 40V? full charger=d the battery should measure around 54.5V. if good voltage re-install; turn key and then press and hold power button to turn on
Ok will do, and yes the switch was on, key turned, and when maxed I could see that on the display it was 54.5 at full when I was riding earlier before it shut off. I appreciate the quick response and will let you know if that works

Try pedaling the bike does the bike accelerate and motor turn on independent of throttle use? If so then most likely throttle issue. I had throttle issue on another ebike last year and new throttle fixed the issue
I bought ridstar FM-001, and the voltage shows 54V, no matter I changed the voltage level at the setting P03. Do you have any idea for it? Thank you
Measure battery voltage with voltmeter on + and - contacts to verify 54v
What are the default settings because I changed mine and some of my only go to 6 miles an hour and then I’m going fast but the speed only shows but I’m going faster than six

Is there a way to set the trottle to work only as the walk mode ie 3 miles 5 km/h. In the netherlands it is only allowed to have a trottle as walk assist or and I am not sure as a small boost till 25 km/h.
If not if have to remove the trottle.
I don’t think you can set the throttle to walk only mode. What you can do is turn off the throttle completely in the settings or consider buying 3 pin SM connectors and wire in on/off switch under the seat so you can turn the throttle on and off quickly
you dont need to, just hold the minus button on the selector switch for a few seconds and it the bike will go on its own 5mph. when you want to stop it, just pull any brake
If you change the gear settings in p5 to 9 gears, your first gear will be slow walking speed. Safe travels
I really appreciate your content with budget ebikes. Got my Cruz V8 in Cambodia, it's actually more like this Ridstar with the M5, 1000W motor, but with a hard tail, passenger seat and higher handlebar. Unfortunately i can't change many of the custom settings on the M5; the top speed is hard set at 50kph, but thankfully it's already at 20amps. A motor controller upgrade will surely be complicated as well, I'm rethinking that mod.
So, what do you think about the throttle on your bike? Mine is very touchy with a limited range of variability, like a half inch of rotation. I need to be careful as the bike wants to do a wheelie with my partner on board!

@BRichSolution it's the same throttle I assume by the looks. My explanation is not clear then. The motor power is either full off or full on except for a small amount of throttle rotation in the middle that modulates the power. It's hard to only give part throttle, and I'm considering replacing the stock throttle with something else that's easier to modulate the motor power.

When riding with someone, the front end gets very light, because the person sitting behind you, is sitting behind the rear wheel. I don't have a throttle though, as its illegal here.
@Reiger1984 my controller hits hard, and unfortunately, I can't adjust that. This situation has gotten worse as I did the shunt mode on the controller, so now the motor runs at 30A or more. I've even turned off PAS as that sometimes comes on unexpectedly and created one small accident. After that, I rotated the handlebars forward so that I could comfortably sit a lot closer to the front of the bike. It looks a tad bit silly, but I'd rather be safe.

Hey there, thanks for the video! I'm from the netherlands where we have a lot of restrictions to what is allowed on a fatbike. Faster than 25km/h is not allowed, a throttle is also not allowed if it goes faster than 6km/h. Is there any shortcut to reset the speed settings for when i am pulled over by the cops? I can switch off the throttle in the menu, because i will not be using that. But I need a quick reset option to maximize the speed to 25km/h. Thanks in advance!
No quick short buttons to change settings quickly. I have been thinking of a way to put a switch on ebike to change settings quickly. For the throttle you could put an inline on/off switch

Hi, I've been following you for a few days but I already love all the videos for Ridstar!! I think you know that in Europe (Spain-Fuerteventura-Canary Island) to be able to travel on asphalt roads we have to limit the power, and here you explained how to do it (for us max 250w) but can you disconnect the accelerator cable? this too is essential to be legal. You can turn throttle off in the settings. And limit amps to 6 amps will limit motor to 250W

Are you able to actually get 31mph out of this bike? My limit is set to 100k and current is set to 20 amps. But the bike refuses to go over 28mph. Tire pressure is good, I'm about the same size as you, 5'8 185 lbs.
Did you check the speed with GPS app? The display might show 28-29 mph but you could be going faster. Motor needs to warm up long straightaway to get 30+. See speed test video confirm with GoPro telemetry data

@@BRichSolution I just got done checking it with a MPH app on my phone and it's actually worse than I originally thought. According to the app top speed is 26 mph well though display on the bike shows 28 miles per hour max.

Hey B Rich! I just got my ridstar and followed your assembly video, and I have the bike turned on but for some reason the throttle is not doing anything. I am not sure why this is the case and I have all the settings the same as this video, but for some reason the throttle is just not working. I know it has nothing to do with the battery as the display and the lights all work, but like I said I just don't know about the throttle. Please, if you can help me at all let me know!
If motor works when pedaling then most like the throttle is bad. I had this happen with a another ebike. Ask seller for replacement throttle
I'm not sure if it works because I do not have the right cadence setting on, or if the motor just does not work. I was not aware that the motor would engage with peddling, I thought it only engaged with the throttle. How can I test if this is a problem with the throttle or the motor?@@BRichSolution
Hey, sorry to keep pestering you, but out of no where the bike started to work like normal, and then after some time it stopped working again. Pedal assist system on ebikes most have 1-5 modes some have up to 10.
I changed my tire settings to 40 inches when I was messing with the settings and I put it back to 32 and now it says my max speed it says my max speed is 7 mph I don’t know how to fix it
Tire size should be 20 or 23. Try that

I am only not happy with the paddle assist, from a zero start its ok but If i want to paddle again after a corner Or something it takes About 9 sec before the engine is kicking in again. I have Watch your settings clip but its still the same🥲. Do you know something else i van do? Thx

Not much faster you can go with 48V… its physics. $5000 super 73 only go 32mph. 52V battery might get you faster

Since the controller can be 60v max, can i change to 60v batter? Would it get me more speed?
display settings says 60V but controller box specs say 48V so I doubt it can handle 48V but you can always try. 52V might be less risker option

Change p08 the speed limit in km to 100 (wont go 100km/h but will not limit speed) and p14 to 20 or 22 the highest it will go. All other setting use the same as show in video. Not seeing how to perform factory reset

Macfox x1 is not a good value compared to Ridstar Q20. The X1 has small 500w motor (top speed maybe 25 mph). Mechanical brakes vs Q20 hydraulic. X1 has no rear suspension. Don’t buy x1 you will be disappointed

Error 10 means the controller can't communicate with the LCD, so you must gave damaged one of the wires inside the cable, or you wiped out the controller or LCD when some wires shorted. Check that no pins in the connector got bent

Will the motor power the bike if you pedal? If the motor works when you pedal then check connector on the throttle to main harness, unplug and re connect firmly. If still an issue then replace throttle
Cool, thanks! My q20 is not kicking in the motor when it i pedal, abruptly enough. In PAS5 I have to turn the crank about 8 whole turns before any assist is present. Is this changeable to be more sensitive and maybe kick in faster?
See video and p11 setting for changing pedal sensitivity settings. You might have to change it a few times to find what you like

Its maxed out due to physics. $5000 super73 only go 32mph stock. You need to increase volts to 52V or 60V but that cost a lot of money

No, has bot happened. Try charging battery for 3-4 hours outside and the measure voltage of battery (+ and -) with voltmeter and it should measure 54.5V if not then battery cell or cells went bad

Is the charger bad or battery? Charge the battery for 4-6 hours. If it does not charger then buy this charger from amazon amzn.to/47WemI4 to prove that that charge or battery is bad. If you determine battery or charger is bad reach out to seller for replacement battery or charger

That is strange. When you charge it for 6 hours is the red light on the charger or green?
The charger went from red to green after about 30mns at 1st, then it stayed on green. Every time i plug in the charger, before the battery it stays green the whole time.
@@ikennachimezie2134 ive actually been dealing with the same issue, i did around 10 miles today and it was blinking the whole time. When i first got the bike it had all the bars but it suddenly just showed one bar. If anyone finds a solution please be sure to send an answer our way please.

I figured it out when you press the plus and minus click the off button and get to p3 and set that number to 48 my bike was on 60 im guessing that’s the volts and the battery is a max of 48. When set back to 48 all my bars are back, Hope I helped have a great day

Having Problems with RIDSTAR Q20 front wheel brakes rubbing with tire disk
Ah yes very common issue with bikes. Loosen bolt that retain the brake caliper and its allowed to slide a little for adjustment. Squeeze the brake level to center the caliper on the rotor and then tighten bolts. See various youtube videos for adjusting brakes on bikes

I just got mine in, but when I’m peddling, I don’t feel the pedal assist kick in. Would there be a reason for that?

@@BRichSolution I have it set on number two and you could fill it kind of kick in but barely at all unless you give it throttle and pedal but my other E bikes I have you just need to pedal on it automatically kicks in without holding in the throttle
@@BRichSolution basically what is happening is when I’m riding and I have the throttle on and I let off the throttle and I’m still peddling. It doesn’t keep up with the speed it goes down to like I’m just peddling a regular bike.

It just doesn’t have as much torque as my other bike, so I’m not used to that but if you’re in Petis three or four it takes a few seconds but it starts going but I do have another question what is the on and off switch on the battery for and is the circle mean the battery is on or is the dash mean the battery is on can you explain this to me?
I was messing around with my settings on mine and now the speedometer isn't working right how do I reset my bike to factory settings
It feels like it goes even faster than 31 now but how do I reset the screen to where I can tell how fast I'm going

How do you enable cruise control? Mine only goes to p16.

Hello sir. I just got the q20 and i was messing around in the settings trying to increase the speed and now it only cycles through 3 speed modes instead of 5 how do I reset it to get it back to 5 modes again. Thx

So if you set it to a max speed of 20mph would this qualify to be a class 2 bike?

It’ll be nice if the written list of all M5 settings are listed, instead of vocally only mentioning? Since most of the e-bikes in U.S. come from China, usually with very poor after-sale customer support, manuals practically not usable and helpful, somebody with enough knowledge about the M5 settings to be able to provide online with written list and what alternative values means for each of the settings, thanks. In the last 6 mo since I’m operating my foldable step-through e-bike I have experiencing burning the integrated front light and LCD M5 display, not allowing me to start the el. System. In both cases Aipas mailed me the replacement parts for A2 Elite e-bike and now keep working.
My friends have US brand ebikes and I had Sondors and all ebike support is not good so mind as well buy a bike with common parts.

does it have any advance settings that allows you to go faster im thinking about buying one but if it goes faster it’ll be 10x way cooler.
Your not going to get much faster on any ebike with 48V battery the physics won’t allow you to. This bike does 31mph and is probably the fastest bike out there for $1000. Like many ebikes controller limits output to 20A to protect the motor. If you swap controllers to 25A you might to 33 mph

Legal … depends on where you live. PAS 4 is 25 mph and pas 3 is 19 mph. If you lower amps on p14 setting then PAS levels will change lower

E0007 appears to be motor error code. See user manual linked below. Try disconnecting the motor and reconnecting the cable coming from the motor to controller

Mrjason i do the same in my in my new bike 5 months ago i messed with the setting nothing fix it i talk and with my electrician and said the problem is in the hub motor and i can pay about 100 euro to fix it but said to me dont do it just have a gps on the phone now i buy the ridstar q20 and i am waiting it from the next 7 days will come i will remember it to do not do the same with the settings in my new one
Yeah well my friend went to go change the brakes and he had a special order of them from the Chinese red star site we cannot find them anywhere else
The brakes are nothing special and can be easily upgraded unless you must have brake lever cut off wires?
I just got the ridstar from Amazon and it was a nightmare the screen came broken the battery rail was broken the front breaks didn’t work and the front tire was popped I had to fix all that myself
Yikes sorry to hear that. I had another ebike lucky it was only tire and throttle. I think Amazon delivery people struggle with the boxes and rol them off the trucks

when i ride the front wheel sounds like knives sharpening i’m not sure what’s wrong with it
Align brakes calipers. Loosen bolts on brake caliper so it can move freely then squeeze brake lever and center on rotor and tighten brake rotor. Clean rotor with dawn and water then alcohol swab
If i change the speed settings to 25km it doesnt change do you know why?

my bike only works after being in walk mode and then i have to press the throttle then it works normal if i stop i have to repeat

@@BRichSolution do you mean the local seller or the factory? Has the seller in my town put its own code in the bike? Instead of the factory Standard code? I am thinking of changing my display model to another one because I cannot change any settings for personal preference it's all locked. Is there a way to set the factory settings without the secret code?

Hi ,doesn't the fact that it is 23 inches give an error in the speed?
23” is the outside diameter of tire on 20” wheel. 23” setting yields more accurate speed on display too
