Your videos reassure my purchase as I'm using this as a fulltime commuter till I get my license back. This e-bike was the best bang for the buck,, and I knew I could and would upgrade it down the road,, Just didn't know how till your videos... Ik most ppl aren't interested in this, but would LOVE to see a speed upgrade done to this bike, cuz like i said this is my fulltime commuter n sometimes the mornings don't go as planned, n I'm not tryna be late lol. There’s a guy that has some videos on his upgraded q20 with a 3000w motor, the thing hits 60mph apparently. You can find his channel if you search for q20 3000w motor
Hmm so on the new dual battery, dual motor ridstar are there 2 of those yellow aderson connectors? One to each battery because i know one battery is only for the front motor and the other for the back? Are there 2 controllers?
Is the on/off switch optional or do you need it? And if it is optional does the switch make battery life for efficient or laste longer? Im still a little lost on what the switch is for. Sick video btw
On / off switch is optional, but nice to have. That way you ride out on factory battery and when it gets low switch on the extra battery so you know you’ll make it home
Hello thanks for the video. I just had 2 questions. 1.Does adding the extra give any more speed? 2. When you plug the battery in will it combine the percentage with the stock battery and the new battery you showed in this video on the display where it shows the battery level? Thank you
No max speed increase but you do maintain top speed longer as stock battery speed speed slows after 18 miles the extra battery can go 28 miles before you feel the impact The battery meter on the screen shows for both batteries. What i typically do is keep the back up battery off and ride out on the factory battery until 1-2 bars are left then turn on 2nd battery so I can ensure I will make it back home
The battery comes with cargo bag and keeps in protected and provides attachment velcro straps to secure to the frame. A 2nd hardshell battery will not fit in the frame they are too big.
Ridstar Q20 is priced wrong! For $1750 you can buy a dual battery dual motor Yolin which is faster, lighters and better range. See video for detials on why Q20 pro is not a good value ua-cam.com/video/KPf2C8uzaVo/v-deo.html
36V battery is too low and will not do anything if connected in parallel. In series you could be at 84V but you would ruin the bms in both batteries and or fry the controller
can i buy another full size battery just like the stock battery and keep an extra battery in a basket or just mounted somewhere else and switch the batteries out continuously when needed
There is no room on the frame to mount a 2nd stock hard shell battery, hence this solution. Q20 pro has two batteries but the frame has been changed to accommodate space for two hardshell batteries. Besides hard shell battery will cost over $300 and this solution is cheaper at $200

What do you think of the ridstar dual motor version. I read somewhere said it was limited to only 30mph even after adjusting the settings. I was thinking about still getting one and maybe changing out the controllers. Would it be difficult to find a controller to fit?

how much more range do you get from it in PAS 4 and can you only use the 48v 10amp as I see there are other options for it 52v 20ah and it also says its only usable up to 800W when mine has 1500 I see 50v 15ah upgrade but its only rated up to 1000w
In PAS 4 with 10Ah battery on flat pavement you should gain about 15-20 miles if range and with 15ah battery 22-28 miles of extra range. I would stick with 48V and mixing 52v with factory 48V battery could be an issue

Anyway to remove the throttle? Throttles are illegal here in Ireland and I’m hoping to just use PAS mode on maximum and hopefully it would be easy to peddle? I don’t mind low speed. Just want to stay legal and hopefully no sweat 😂

Hey Rich, awesome video! I just ordered my upgrade items and want to know if you recommend using both batteries in the on position simultaneously or one off and one on at a time? If simultaneous, do you notice that it uses one battery before the other?
I typically start on factory battery and when I get to 1-2 bars I shut the bike off and power up with 2nd battery until 1 bar. Gives time for factory battery chemistry to settle out. Then ride home on both batteries
Hey, I’m new to the ebike industry and just wondering, when you change the main battery does the second battery get charged as well? Or do you have to charge that separately?
@@BRichSolution "NOTE: Product is No. 2 communication protocol" The one i got is exactly the same as this one but has UART communication protocol. So this one works for sure?
Probably the replace the controller with a 25A output. I need to do some research on which one will work. You won’t be able to go much faster maybe 1-3 mph but your range will be shorter. With 48V your maxed out on speed. Even $5000 Super73 only gets top speed of 32 mph and the ridstar Q20 does 31 mph. If you want to go 40-45 mph you’ll need a 60V ebike which expensive and heavy
So on the Amazon links, I believe I need the 2 cable connectors like in ur video, there's a 3rd set of cables, but that's for charging or something like that? And what voltage and amp battery is that u got? There are several choices, id really like to upgrade my mileage, instead of just buying an extra battery, thanks again for all u information.
on/off switch allow you to isolate the 2nd battery and that way you know how much is left. I ride out on factory battery and when I get to 1-2 bars on battery life I turn on 2nd battery and head home
@@BRichSolution Ah so you are switching batteries, it's not like they are 'combined'. Any mods you recommend? I was thinking switching to kendra street tires. Any way to get around the speed limiter? Would be cool to have some kind of basket too. And was the only reason you ended up moving the battery was so you could flip that on/off while riding? That first location seems so prime.
Just ordered mines today cnt wait to starting modding. After you added the extra battery did the MPH increase or not is the max speed still the same? Also how do you charge the extra battery?
If you can buy the Q20 with 20Ah (don’t buy 15Ah version) for less than $999 then go for it. Some of the cheaper bikes don’t have hydraulic brakes which is not good to have mechanical brakes for speed over 22 mph
Doesn’t make it faster, but you can maintain higher speeds longer as with stock single battery top speed slows down after 15-18 miles, with 2nd battery you can maintain top speed longer and go further
same performance but top speed and acceleration do not degrade after 18 miles with single battery. Extra battery you do not feel impact until 25-30 miles
So I have this bike as well and thinking about doing this to my bike as well for a little bit of more range. My question is since you added this second battery, have you seen a increase in speed with the bike or no?
Is the set that’s all in the link all plug and play? Will I have a problem with XT60 connector being different on my bike or will I need adapter? Seeing a previous comment someone having a issue
All plug and play as long as the xt60 connectors. If you have a different connector on the controller the you can always buy a adapter for $4 on amazon from T to Xt60
I just got my ridstar q20 it goes up to 30 mph but i can't get the speedometer to read it only goes to like 8.9 mph even when not riding it is there a setting for this
check P06 setting for tire size as it should be 23 for 23 inch diameter tire. Smaller number will read slower on display. see full manual drive.google.com/file/d/11lAw9iM5LSeClU6BIZ9uhWouXFD8nR_3/view
How do you increase the speed of the bike? I am only going 10 mph. I set the bike to 20 ah, and I set the mph to mode 100 on p8. What else do I do to increase the speed of the bike?
What PAS level are you in? Use the + button to put bike in PAS 5 for 30 mph speed. Make sure amps set to 30 and p14 to 100. See settings video ua-cam.com/video/pnaEkvOyHwE/v-deo.html
It’s not the regular pro but it’s a ridstar dual battery 52v and dual 1000 watt motors. I found it for 1700. According to a post of Reddit it only goes 30mph even after adjusting settings. I’m going to purchase it and probably change out the controllers if possible? I just don’t know where I can find controllers to fit.
For $1700 you can buy a 52V dual battery, dual 1000w motors Yolin ebike that is faster and lighter (aluminum frame) then Ridstar Q20 pro that has 52V batteries has steel frame and controller chokes performance. Im just saying
My concern is that it is shipped from China, I do believe it’s a better bike. I’ve had bad experiences from shipping from China. I wish they had them in the us.
No gain in top speed but with 2nd battery you can maintain the higher speeds longer than with single battery after 18 miles speed slow, with two you can go 28 miles. Not much more speed you can get out of bike with 48v; 31 mph top speed is respectable. $5000 super 83 top speed is 32 mph
I received my Ridstar to day and the voltage indicator on the display doesn’t work the battery is fully charged do you have any idea of what it could be? Thank you
Does the bike work on the battery? If so might be communication error if not then return it. My amp display does not show anything but volts do see settings video ua-cam.com/video/pnaEkvOyHwE/v-deo.html
It was in the settings been riding it for 2 days now it’s my first e-bike I’m really enjoying it Thanks for your videos they are the reason I bought the Ridstar
Hey I have the same bike, but my throttle stopped working and I checked all connections and I'm not sure what to do. Does your light staying running on the back? I think maybe my brake is somehow activated at all times engaging that light in the rear and not letting me throttle, any other ideas or fixes? thanks
I had this happen and i flicked the brake levers to get the brake switch to disengage. If that doesn’t work then unplug the brake lever motor cut off wires from the controller to determine which brake is the issue. If the throttle is bad as seller for replacement or buy one in amazon for $15 amzn.to/45vJInP
Thank you for your advice. Ridstar contacted me and directed me to adjust a screw on my brake levers as you mentioned and it solved the problem, this upgrade it next!@@BRichSolution

@@BRichSolution like optimally i would just slap some replacement surron mudguards on but i know it’ll take atleast a little more than that so i’m trying to figure it out before i buy the ridstar, thank you😁
You can’t go much faster with 48V battery. $5000 super 73 only have top speed of 32 mph and Q20 goes 31mph. To go faster you’ll need a bike with 52V or 60V battery
@@BRichSolution I mean in the video you ended up placing it where the cargo bag was. I was wondering what made you change your mind. I thought your first placement choice was great.
No, controller limits output. I did however have higher speeds longer as the higher voltage last longer. With one battery after about 20 miles voltage dropped and I couldn’t go above 30 mph. Now i can go over 30 miles before top speed drops. BTW this bike is pretty fast for $999 with top speed of 31 mph. $5000 super73 only go 32 mph. You cannot get much faster with 48v
yes, the controllers in the Ridstar is the same so the battery combiner and extra battery will work. The tricky part might be where to place the extra battery and packaging the battery combiner in a folding frame
so.. i was wondering.. if you are almost 1.9m tall, is it possible for a guy like me, to sit on the back end of the seat so my legs wouldn`t be so crumbled up with usin the pedals? or is it just not possible because of the build of the bike? cheers
The issue with going to 3000W motor you'll also need at least 60V preferably 72V battery. That will cost you over $2000 and the frame might not be able to handle the torque. Best bet is to sell the Q20 and buy a Stealth Bomber Clone with 3000w. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDjbsn9 The 48V 3000W bikes has front and rear 1500W motor which is great for hill climb but range short and top speed is only 34 mph
13 miles throttle only in extra battery that is only 10Ah and 27 miles on stock battery so total of 40 miles. You can go further if you get larger 15Ah battery or ride in PAS 4
Just Bought Ridstar. but i just wanted to ask, does the base battery (48V 20AH) Dies withing a year or so? I read a comment about the batterry being faulty and dies out after a year of use. Is this true?
All ebike batteries (even expensive LG or Samsung) have a cycle life. If you cycle (charge and discharge) battery constantly below 20% will shorten it's life. Typically ebike batteries get 500-2000 cycles
I got my Ridstar Q20 (1500w) and I want to get a 2500w-3000w battery and also keep my 1500w so 4500w will that be over 40 miles of range?, and does anyone have a good product for a 2500w-3000w e-bike battery?
Buy 48V / 15ah version of the extra battery and connect up everything shown in this video. You will get at least 40-55 miles of throttle only range. See link to battery and combiner amzn.to/3KyZC8Y
I noticed you must have painted the side panels from white to black. It looks good, I'm considering doing the same thing, I also want to paint my battery matte black to match. I think it will clean up the looks if it's all black throughout.
@@BRichSolutionHI BRich. You lost me as to the reason for the battery isolation switch. Are you using it to select which battery will power the Bike?..or r u using it as a safety cut-off switch? Thanks.
Love this setup I did similar for my VIVI folding electric mountain bike. Bought an $80 battery and cables got a few more miles to the ride. I just ordered this bike tonight with the brown leather and mag wheels 1500 . I wanted the q20 pro but was way too expensive. Shipping is 300. I’m gonna do what you did here and get that battery setup. I’m just wondering if there’s a possibility that you could have three batteries on the bike. You are thinking about mounting it under the seat is there a possibility of getting a splitter that would go to three batteries? If anything that area under the seat could be used to storage anyways, so kind of takes away the worry of putting the battery in the factory cargo pouch, but if you were really needing to carry so much stuff, you could just upgrade the cargo pouch to a bigger one I’ve seen on Amazon it’s bigger and kind of makes an illusion like it’s a gas tank. Can’t wait to get mine. Great video. 👍
Awesome upgrade video on what appears to be one of the best budget friendly ebikes, thank you. Would love to see this thing with some cheap street style motorcycle tires nudge nudge 😁But I know how you love your offroad.

I'm looking into getting a second battery that I could carry in my backpack and swap when it gets low, but I can't find the ridstar q20 battery anywhere that is fairly priced or seems legit and i don't want to buy a different brand of battery that doesn't fit into my bike. Do you know any alternative battery's that would work with this bike?
There in lies the problem why i made this solution. The stock battery hard shell is uncomfortable riding around bouncing around on your back. The battery is fairly common shape you just have to match the connector pins & location on the battery pack. I believe a battery like this will work see link amzn.to/3AFUa1Q

Perfect that’s what I needed to know thank you
Hey Rich, awesome video!
@@BRichSolution Cool. One more question.... does the M5 have display limitations with the Hailong battery?
I do not get 20-27 miles of range with my Ridstar Q20!!? I have the 40v 20ah battery version. I try to stay in PAS 2
I get 20-27 miles range on pavement, flat ground in PAS 5 with little throttle action with 20ah version without issue as long as temperature is 60-90F
@@BRichSolution how? Did I possibly get a faulty battery ??
Hey, I’m new to the ebike industry and just wondering, when you change the main battery does the second battery get charged as well? Or do you have to charge that separately?
Charger it separately
how much extra range would i get if I get the 52v 15ah variant
You don’t want to mix 52V battery with the stock 48V battery. Both should be the same voltage
Anyone know what style communication the display needs to be for this bike?
M5 display see video for settings ua-cam.com/video/pnaEkvOyHwE/v-deo.html and link on Amazon for replacement screen amzn.to/3MxhD80
@@BRichSolution "NOTE:
Product is No. 2 communication protocol"
The one i got is exactly the same as this one but has UART communication protocol. So this one works for sure?
Guess not. Does not power up at all. Second in a row. Am i doing something wrong? Seems fairly simple.
What’s the best upgrade I can get so I can go faster ?
The 3rd set of cables is optional if you want mount battery lower and the switch cable is now long enough extension
@BRichSolution got it thank you, that battery? 48 v 10 amp? Could I do the 48 v 15 amp?
@BRichSolution 48 v 10 amp , easier to install, and thats 30 amp total, good enuff!
can we turn both batteries at the same time?
Yes
What is the point of the on/off switch, and does this affect your speeds at all?
on/off switch allow you to isolate the 2nd battery and that way you know how much is left.
Extra battery comes with a new charger. Extra battery does not increase speed but allows you to maintain top speed longer
@@BRichSolution so if you upgrade to a 52v battery it doesn’t increase the speed?
I was thinking abt getting a q20 soon and I was wondering if it is really worth it and if it is a big difference
If you can buy the Q20 with 20Ah (don’t buy 15Ah version) for less than $999 then go for it. Some of the cheaper bikes don’t have hydraulic brakes which is not good to have mechanical brakes for speed over 22 mph
Great video! Does having the additional battery change the voltage and battery percentage on the display? Cheers!
No change in % but just drains slower
Does the battery make it faster or just increase the range
Doesn’t make it faster, but you can maintain higher speeds longer as with stock single battery top speed slows down after 15-18 miles, with 2nd battery you can maintain top speed longer and go further
How do you charge the 2nd battery & what is the name of the 2nd battery and what is that extension wire called ?????
Battery comes with charger. A link to all the parts are in the description below the video
Do I get the same battery for the ridstar q20 1500w 🤔
Link to all products used in video: amzn.to/3KyZC8Y
Is uphill performance or acceleration improved?
same performance but top speed and acceleration do not degrade after 18 miles with single battery. Extra battery you do not feel impact until 25-30 miles
How does the extra battery charge
The extra Battery comes with a charger which is same one as the factory battery
Will the extra 10ah battery make it go faster? if it does about how much?
Not faster but you can maintain top speed longer. Stock battery top speed drops after 20 miles with extra battery you can 32 miles before speed drops
@@BRichSolution To make it go faster do you have to change the motor or can you do something else? if so what?
For Yolin triple battery have inside 2 equalizer small wrote 48V/30AH ....
But Is Broked and have fire smell and black color cables 😢 before one month
replace it with 40 amp battery combiner to be safe. amzn.to/3qnua6L
I noticed all the Dual Battery Management System Modules are 500 w, but my e-bike is a 2000 W? do you know if it needs to be a 500 W controller?
No the 30A battery combiner is sufficient for this bike
Also which battery is that in the video you are using? Is it the 48v 10ah?
Yes 48v 10Ah battery see link amzn.to/3KyZC8Y
So I have this bike as well and thinking about doing this to my bike as well for a little bit of more range. My question is since you added this second battery, have you seen a increase in speed with the bike or no?
No increase in top speed, but top speed is maintained longer and does not fall off after 20 miles like a single battery.
For the battery combiner did u get 30a ,20a or 10
Or 40 instead of 10
30A
Does anyone have a link to a faster charger for the Q20?
Here is a link to 4Amp charger which charges in half the tome of the stock charger amzn.to/43Yr08M

would you be able to do this with a 48v 20ah bettery?
Not sure the 20ah would fit, 15ah will fit
@@BRichSolution would it be possible to add 2 15ah batteries to the bike?

Yes
Is the set that’s all in the link all plug and play? Will I have a problem with XT60 connector being different on my bike or will I need adapter? Seeing a previous comment someone having a issue
All plug and play as long as the xt60 connectors. If you have a different connector on the controller the you can always buy a adapter for $4 on amazon from T to Xt60
All connections are plug and play

I just got my ridstar q20 it goes up to 30 mph but i can't get the speedometer to read it only goes to like 8.9 mph even when not riding it is there a setting for this
check P06 setting for tire size as it should be 23 for 23 inch diameter tire. Smaller number will read slower on display. see full manual drive.google.com/file/d/11lAw9iM5LSeClU6BIZ9uhWouXFD8nR_3/view
@BRichSolution I'll check thank you so much, it's the 1000 watt 48 volt it works great it's just the speedometer it's registering my speed
Will that change the max speed or not
@BRichSolution thanks so much it actually worked, I had it set I think the highest, but works great now
How you charge up that battery
You can run both batteries or toggle back and forth with the battery combiner; see parts list in description below video
Is there a difference between 20A/30A/40A? Or is only size of converter?
Buy the 30A version. 20A will make bike slower
I wish they had them in the us.
i do like the idea of more range but how about speed? and if so how much faster would it go?
No gain in top speed but with 2nd battery you can maintain the higher speeds longer than with single battery after 18 miles speed slow, with two you can go 28 miles. Not much more speed you can get out of bike with 48v; 31 mph top speed is respectable. $5000 super 83 top speed is 32 mph
@BRichSolution ok my last question with the installed battery you put on would that also need to be charged?
you sly dog :) congrats on the build

Does this help speed or only range? How can we make this bike faster?
Also what parts can we buy to amp this thing up? I appreciate any help in advance. Love this bike as it helps me go to work
Longer range but does help maintain higher speeds longer as after 18 miles top speed slows down with one battery
You can’t go much faster with 48V battery. $5000 super 73 only have top speed of 32 mph and Q20 goes 31mph. To go faster you’ll need a bike with 52V or 60V battery
So I’ll pretty much need to invest a newer bike if I want a faster speed?
Thanks for replying by the way
Why did you change the location of the battery?
To make room for the extra or 2nd batch
@@BRichSolution I mean in the video you ended up placing it where the cargo bag was. I was wondering what made you change your mind. I thought your first placement choice was great.
Did u pick up any speed with 2 batteries?
No, controller limits output. I did however have higher speeds longer as the higher voltage last longer. With one battery after about 20 miles voltage dropped and I couldn’t go above 30 mph. Now i can go over 30 miles before top speed drops. BTW this bike is pretty fast for $999 with top speed of 31 mph. $5000 super73 only go 32 mph. You cannot get much faster with 48v
can you add an extra battery to the other ridstar bike?
yes, the controllers in the Ridstar is the same so the battery combiner and extra battery will work. The tricky part might be where to place the extra battery and packaging the battery combiner in a folding frame
so.. i was wondering.. if you are almost 1.9m tall, is it possible for a guy like me, to sit on the back end of the seat so my legs wouldn`t be so crumbled up with usin the pedals? or is it just not possible because of the build of the bike? cheers
Yes, at 1.9M you can slide to back of the seat and you will not be crammed or crumpled up
@@BRichSolution thanks for the reply..
How do you charge the extra battery?
The extra battery comes with a separate charger and there is charge wires on the extra battery. You can see the black cable coming from the battery
Hey I have Q battery can I add 52.30ah and thank you
The 52V battery fully charged to 58V no issues with controller?
can you upgrade the motor next? maybe 3000watts?
The issue with going to 3000W motor you'll also need at least 60V preferably 72V battery. That will cost you over $2000 and the frame might not be able to handle the torque. Best bet is to sell the Q20 and buy a Stealth Bomber Clone with 3000w. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDjbsn9 The 48V 3000W bikes has front and rear 1500W motor which is great for hill climb but range short and top speed is only 34 mph
@@BRichSolution would you recommend a stealth bomber or like a surron/talaria?
how much range do you get throttle only with the upgrade?
13 miles throttle only in extra battery that is only 10Ah and 27 miles on stock battery so total of 40 miles. You can go further if you get larger 15Ah battery or ride in PAS 4
thanks!

Typically ebike batteries get 500-2000 cycles
just brag about your 10mm socket why dont you

Buy 48V / 15ah version of the extra battery and connect up everything shown in this video. You will get at least 40-55 miles of throttle only range. See link to battery and combiner amzn.to/3KyZC8Y
I noticed you must have painted the side panels from white to black. It looks good, I'm considering doing the same thing, I also want to paint my battery matte black to match. I think it will clean up the looks if it's all black throughout.

@@PaulPaidit’s an on off switch to the battery. One of the plugs was a converter so you can use both at the same time.
