- What do you do when you have Ford's new 650 horsepower Shelby GT500 but can't reveal driving impressions until next week? On this episode of The Downshift, we take to the streets of Detroit to stage an impromptu car chase between the GT500 and the 2013 Ford Police Interceptor and 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit police cars.
The Downshift appears every Tuesday on the new Motor Trend channel.

Rule #1 - hire pro drivers and stop going slow for cinematic effect .......... RULE #2 it has power USE IT and your doing burnouts in gravel so not only is it easier but it chips the paint what are you thinking .......... RULE #3 when in a pursuit you never go the same way twice ..... they will be there and waiting for you along with familiar territory ...... so careful ........ THAT IS ALL FOR NOW the 3 rules on how to race a mustang in this situation for filming ....... Thank You ............. :P

It would be stupid to take 660+hp and RWD in a car like that on short, sharp, zigzag areas like that. Stands no chance. Taurus cop car is AWD, 350+hp twin turbo V6. Mustang wouldn't have stood a chance unless it caught a straight away with pavement lol

Cool way to change the typical car review! Although, I wish the hi-speed chase was higher speed and not on gravel. (I'm sure theres a ton of red tape for that). Keep it up.
The opening music/credits made me not want to see this anymore after 53 seconds.
Ok, so obviously these guys aren't actors, but this isn't freaking hollywood. Its a fricking car review site. This is just simply there way of trying to incorporate three different NEW cars, in a form of a get away scene. Although it wasn't a really good way of demonstrating the real performance of the Ford Police Interceptor, Dodge Charger Pursuit, and The Shelby GT500, it still displays them trying to show you that the new GT500 is a great achievement for ford!

A feel the same way, I had a '97 Ram 1500 and about 300 miles after the warranty went up, bits and pieces started falling apart. I eventually scraped it when the transmission blew to pieces. Now, I have an '81 Chevy C/K 1500 and a 2007 GMC Sierra 3500.
Many police officers are not a big fan of the Dodge Charger interceptors.
We just got them here in Canada, and replaced them quickly with the Taurus'. The ride is apparently less comfortable, there are many blind spots on the Charger, and Ford had a better warranty.
It is a shame that the new Impalas won't be sporting the flashing lights over here anytime soon.
Reminds me of the movie Gone in 60 Seconds. Its missing the part where the Shelby fly's overs the bridge.

The Corvette plays an entirely different ball game than the Camaros and Mustangs do. The Vette is too busy beating up Supercars like the Nissan GTR, Lamborghinis and Ferraris.
