Looking back 6 yrs, the Mustang has had an amazing metamorphosis. A complete restyling and gone is the live rear axle. The Boss 302 has been replaced with the GT350R, two cars that couldn't be more different. The Camaro has evolved a lot, but the Mustang has improved dramatically.
@@blackeye3336 Hey your back, you never responded to me previous message... guess you couldn't. Camaro dead maybe but still better than what frod mustnag offers and for a better price. Although I will give you the win on the number of grocery bags that fit in mustnag trunk... congrats!
@@StockGT350 The GT350 can't embarrass the Z28. You need a GT350r to slightly beat a z28. And you'd need to shell out 70-80k for a R. At which point you could just get a Zl1 1le for 65k and completely destroy the R. Or you could get a SS 1le for 40k and put Michelin Cup 2's on it like the R has and beat it that way too lol
Are you stupid ? This is the top of the line mustang for fords track car . Idiot the fucking gt500 is not a track car . It will loose for it having too much power and not the suspension to support it .
Consider the zl1's power, active magnetic suspension, huge breaks VS the modest n/a 5.0 with factory suspension and brake setup being only 2 seconds behind is outstanding! That tells me with some suspension and brake tweaks it'd be neck and neck even with the power handicap...
Dats rite...chebby use bailout money 2 buy all car magazines an pay them 2 make Ford lose on perpose. Then chebby send pressringers to all car magazines so they look like they more faster than Ford but if U buy a REAL crapmaro from dealer, its' slow. pussy chebby get 100bllion from Obama, then close American factries an fire Americans an buy factories in China an giv our jobs 2 China. I want my 100billion back.
Personally I think the comparison was a little strange... super charged vs naturally aspirated. But I takes a close minded person to not appreciate both Ford and Chevy. Yes, mustang usually is on top (not always) but they're both amazing cars for the price, and the muscle community has become a bit spoiled with today's standards
Not really because in 2017 they did the same thing with the 7.0L Camaro against the 5.2L supercharged mustang and they both had similar power output but the newer model 2016 mustang with updated technology gave it the crown over the 2015 Camaro z28. So they do this all the time. It really doesn't matter. It actually is fair.
They try to compare every other generation to each other. If they compared generation to generation, the Camaro would win every time, and they wouldn't get any more views because there wouldn't be any controversy.
@ As we all know the Camaro came back in 2016 with a new generation after they said it was so called "going out of production" to claim it's current status as a pony killer.
@ That's my point. It's an old video now, and since this video, they did more of these so called "unfair comparisons" with different results every time.
I'm a GM fan myself, but I think I'd rather the Boss302 LS between these two... The ZL1 is incredible, but just too heavy. I love the raw lightweight approach to performance...
I think if you slapped a Whipple supercharger on the Mustang, upgraded the brakes to Brembo or some other name aftermarket big brake kit, with six or eight piston calipers, I think the Mustang would whoop the Chevy's ass. Just from what I see from the video. A two second lap time difference? With smaller brakes and a 100+ hp difference? This comparison is actually doing more for the Ford than the Chev....
With the reveal of the 2015 Mustang we completely forgot to do our monthly post about Mustang sales. I know this is not the most exciting read on the planet so I will make it brief. Mustang sales dropped just over 1,500 units from the previous month of October but they somehow managed to beat out Chevrolet’s Camaro and the Dodge Challenger. As more and more folks catch a glimpse of the 2015 Mustang my guess is most will hold off on purchasing unless they have to have a Mustang. Expect Mustang sales to dip lower and flatten out until the all-new Mustang makes its way to dealers late in the Summer of 2014. Keep reading to see the complete breakdown of November Mustang sales. Sales of the Ford Mustang for November of 2013 were 5,376 compared to 5,309 from November of 2012 showing a 1.3% increase in sales from the previous year. Year to date Mustang sales are 71,459 compared to 77,458 for 2013, which is a 7.7% decrease over the previous year. Month to Month sales were off considerably as October 2013 sales were 6,918 compared to November 2013 sales of 5,376 which is a 22% decrease. Taking a look at the competition, the Chevrolet Camaro sold 5,068 units and the Dodge Challenger sold 2,757 units for November.
Carl Stallins you're closed minded this year was great for muscle cars the gt 350 z28 and z06 whooped some over priced import ass and dodge well dodge took a really big motor and supercharged it and got 4 digit hp
I really don't know shit about cars, but I like the look and size of the Ford Fusion or the Chevy Malibu, so could I put mustang engine in a Fusion and a posi rear end? because I want the Fusion to have more power and to also sound like it has a real engine.
cody patron The Fusion and Malibu are FWD-based cars, they're midsize sedans not made for performance. You can modify them but they won't be in a class with the Mustang and Camaro. If you want a performance sedan, get a Charger SRT8 or Chevy SS, or Taurus SHO if you don't mind a FWD-based car.
I've owned a Boss 302 and now have the ZL1 (coupe w/manual). Both are fantastic cars with different strengths and weaknesses. However, the ZL1 is the better car (and I was a DIE HARD Boss 302 owner). The Boss has some significant weak links (primarily brakes and transmission) whereas the ZL1 is very stout all the way around. However, toss an add'l $8k into the Boss and the gap would close significantly. Lastly, I'd venture to say that 99% of the people commenting negatively about either one would change their tune in a nano second if either car appeared in their driveway. Cheers!
Ya I didn't really pay attention to this match up very much but the mustang is completely outgunned here. It's cheaper, By nearly 10k and really shows it in performance. This should be a GT500 fight but even the camaro would most likely win. Just not as blatantly.
Mustang is simply better from the drag race of the Camaro ss vs mustang gt, bu this one is total bs, chevy boys are happy that they heavy ass car finally get a W
Bro its a zl1 vs a gt its not fair in any way u obv don't know shit if you think this is fair. A gt500 will blow a zl1 out a the water, look up mustang gt vs camaro as vs challenged srt8 and see which one wins before you comment back.
Jaleel Lewis its not a gt its a boss and its what ford CHOSE to put up against the 2012 zl1 so essentially it is kinda fair. They chose to add whatever and take away whatever to directly compete with Chevy. Also i'm assuming ur talking about a drag when you tell people to look uo that matvh up which I did and they were all drags and this is having to do with control on a track in which case your suggestion doesn't really matter.
I Why do all u kids care about weather the car is traxck worthy? As a kids we don't track race we drag race! And on top of that Chevy put up the best camaro so they should have got the gt500
The Plymouth Barracuda was actually the first pony car, it beat the mustang by 2 weeks; obviously it wasn't as popular. I have never been a Mustang fan, it looks like recently Ford finally got sick enough of losing to do something about it. I still prefer the camaro even over the GT500.
Regardless me being a Camaro fan, the only thing I noticed about this comparison was the brakes, and if the Mustang had had better brakes I would have like the Mustang, but not having confidence in what you are driving is a MAJOR flaw!
JAYMAG Brownstone The brakes they chose are junk. "Drive channel" were flabbergasted how their brembo brakes lasted 15min and then melted. MT super snake's disk brakes exploded. Motor trend's gt-500 brakes melted in 3min.
I don't understand why people are saying this is unfair. MT took the best pony car each maker had to offer at the time (that part is important, given that the new Shelby wasn't out yet) and put them against each other. The Ford is cheaper because it's not as good as the ZL1. Pretty simple if you ask me. Even if they had put the GT500 up against it as other magazines have done, the ZL1 would have still won because it's the better all-round car.
Shelby still had the Super Snake out at the time (which was the same price range as the ZL1), but, I agree it was fair, I mean the power to weight ratios are very similar, if the mustang had better more up to date suspension and brakes, it would have been either neck and neck with the ZL1 or ahead of the ZL1. They are both great cars though...
I don't know where you got your stats from but the ones from a Road and Track issue I read a while back say 314hp/ton and 303hp/ton (Which was calculated by R/T during thier comparison.) I might add they had the LS edition of the Boss not the base Boss
It's a $60k car, dude. Anyone putting down that kind of money very likely has the money to fix anything that goes wrong with it, up to and including the advanced technology that makes the ZL1 far superior to any current production Mustang. That, or they'll be leasing the car and have something else to drive before anything goes wrong. Stuff breaks on old cars too. Hopefully you're not some sort of Luddite.
Borderline5440 i wouldn't say far superior...the camaros are the ones being recalled...not the mustangs. i will admit that the camaro has a very nice technological advance set up on it...but it is not easy to fix. and while most people who have the money to buy will have the money to fix it...that still doesn't mean its easy to afford. and then there is the down time. but i buy a car as a daily driver. not just for the track. and when it breaks...i can fix it. i don't have to take my car to a dealership...good luck having that kind of equipment in your garage to fix the camaro. the mustang follows a heritage. one the camaro doesn't have. its a raw pony car and thats how i like it...
Its in an article i read awhile ago, and even if i had made that up, a z28 on a dry surface would do way better than on the wet one it was on when it had set that time. And cmon, ford isnt known for having track cars, they built the Ford gt 10 years ago and the c6 z06 annihilated it by 30 seconds. All of these statements are facts.. if you were wondering lol.
i like this comparo. Although the ZL1 is the GT500 of the Camaros - so it is an unfair comparison (I'm sure motortrend got an ear full). But the ZL1 will still out perform the GT500 on the track because of it's modern magnetic suspension and better rear brakes. Still boggled as to why Ford put brembos only on the front of the car.
The unfairness is not just the engine power, but the price, the carbon fiber materials and the magnetic suspension. The boss is well tuned but still not done to be better. Ford is placing the price control and market selling over the track performance, and that`s actually why mustang sells better than camaro but camaro is usually perform better on track.
+ONE THIRD MAYO The Camaro outsold the Mustang in 2010, 2011, was dead even in 2012, outsold it in 2013, but gave the mantle back to the Mustang in 2014 because of the new 2015 model year Stang. In the 90's and early 2000's the Mustang destroyed the Camaro in sales which is why the Camaro was killed for a while.
Actually I didn`t get the key reason of Camaro outsold Mustang. What I think is because camaro has a better number (horsepower, lap time. etc). Moreover, Camaro is more rare than stang after stop production for a decade, and people who don`t know car that much can`t see much difference between a 2005 stang and a 2012 stang and this makes Mustang tend to be considered being cheaper (actually they are) and crappier are than the Camaro most of the time.
Its a rarity when Camaro outsells Mustang, only "winning" sales 9 times since Mustang's existence.. It does not occur often. The sales in 2010 were huge mainly due to the government and your tax dollars allowing GM to avoid bankruptcy. That and the marketing that was done on them was really great(Transformers). They are nice cars, and some of the F-bodies were great.. I just cant bring myself to support GM anymore.
lol, just remember that the mustang was $8,000 less and only lost by 2 sec, anyone could put an extra $8,000 in that mustang and make it beat that camaro.
For real. You could invest those $8k into a supercharger set up that would over power the mustang with only a little weight gain but that wouldn't matter because power to weight ratio is what you need to win.
Kael Ruland For now. 2015 will be different. What the hell is this (*) bullshit? BTW , nice picture. lol It's a balancing game, too much power and weight or just enough power high revs and light weight. That's why the stang bounces. The Camaro's brakes are better because of the weight. 2015 Mustang finally has an independent rear suspension. We'll see.
amurican35 They just made a proper car. Sorry that We bowtie lovers prefer a better built, more stylish, faster car. Yes. a 302 vs ZL1 isn't fair, but the GT500 was available at this time ( 662 hp version) The camaro brakes are much better and stronger and a lighter car should stop faster. Hell, the camaro z28 when braking would smoke tires better than a mustang could. That's how powerful the brakes were.
True to all that, I like 'em both but I am a Blue Oval fan. I like Chevy before 1998, when they still used the 350 sb. They should have had a better version of the mustang presented.
Id put my 2016 SS vs your F-150 all day lol... are you serious right now? Unless you have some ridiculously modded F-150 or your brother has a V6, I'm calling BS.
Jacob Kean Lol your story gets more and more complex as time rolls by. I'll give you another 24 hours to make up what mods the Camaro had in it. In any case, a STOCK F-150 would get SMOKED by a STOCK Camaro. Your argument is retarded anyway you put it. That's like some idiot saying they vote out a Bugatti because their 2000 hp modified drag car beat it in a drag. I guess asking for video of your so called super F-150 racing anything isn't and will never be available.
look at so many differences price engine size power output yeah if the Camaro didn't smoke it, then something is seriously wrong id rather see a test of 2 cars closer matched :)
In 2006, Ford used the rights to the iconic logo as well as other assets as collateral for financing a turnaround. The gamble paid off and the company regained use of the blue oval last year. Ford is also now enjoying good financial ratings and reviews. It was also the only U.S. automaker to make it through the financial crisis without filing for bankruptcy and taking a government bailout. This year the company’s stock is up 32 percent.
It's also the only U.S. Automaker to still owe U.S. taxpayers money, yet some how (according to their PR department, but not the facts) didn't take bailout money. Weird, they took taxpayer money (and still owe taxpayers) but they didn't take taxpayer money? Which is?
TheBulldawg4life Lies. GM lied when they said they paid back thier loans. Congress butsed them for using TARP money to pay back the loans. GM borrowed 8billion from the Government, the Treasury GM an 8billion escrow from TARP, then GM used the TARP escrow to pay back the 8 billion. The truth is the Government gave GM 16billion, 8 billion as a loan, 8billion more so GM can lie and use the Escrow to pay the loan. Lets not forget that the Government gave 35billion to GM for FREE. They did this by buying 35billion of GM's failing stocks.
TheBulldawg4life This is because Ford took a loan while GM went bankrupt and exchanged equity in the newly restructured GM for funds to hold onto their assets and continue on. Ford has the cash flow to pay these loans back on time, no problem. GM is still 26% (IIRC) government owned and there is not a chance in hell share prices are going to get high enough to recover the cash poured into GM. Price per share of GM common stock would have to nearly triple and hold that high while the government sells to recover the total.
TheBulldawg4life Actually, they've paid back everything they were required to pay back. The rest was either grants or taken as stock options. Admittedly, the money they didn't have to pay back was quite considerable.
EscapeforMankind GM only declared bankrupt, they still had money though...a LOT of money. Ford hasn't paid their loans back, while GM has. No doubt Ford has the cash in hand to pay the measly 5 billion they owe the taxpayers, the question is why haven't they and why are they only on pace to pay it of by 2022 or thereabouts? The government owns GM stock, but never has bothered to control GM except maybe to push the Volt when GM probably didn't want to. The government took risk when it spent many 10's of billions of dollar to buy GM stock, there was an overwhelming sense that it was going to be a losing bet in terms of monetary return...but when compared to having no GM it was a winner. 2.2%. That is the government stake in General Motors. They plan to sell that last 2.2% off before 2013 ends. The government offered the deal for the stocks, instead of doing a straight cash infusion which would have been reckless and useless at the end. GM didn't need cash, they still don't, they needed to dump their Buick and Oldsmobile and Saturn and Pontiac pensions. GM was paying WAY too much money to WAY too many people for products that aren't even available anymore and therefore were not making money.
Todd Rich considering that the boss 302 had(as it's out of production) an MSRP of $40k, and the Z28 has an MSRP of $72k - IT SURE AS FUCK BETTER 'ANNIHILATE' A CAR THAT'S COSTS NEARLY HALF AS MUCH!!!
Great video! I like the Mustang more, though not this one. More so the 2015 to 2018. But the 2018 Camero is great too! I just prefer the lower waistline of the Mustang, the more angular front end, and the lower front hood.
Really! As stated before this match is apples to oranges. A much larger 6.2 SUPERCHARGED engine is pitted against a NA 5.0 and they actually think that's even? All the Chevy fans seem to love this matchup but when it's a Supercharged 5.0 that whoops the ass of a naturally aspirated(but much larger) 6.2 Chevy, all the GM wimps cry foul! Typical GM fan nonsense.
Supercharged GT500 still can't compete with a ZL1. And guess what, Z/28 has a N/A 427 under the hood churning out 500 HP. It still destroys a Supercharged GT500 with 662 HP. Who's crying now.
Ironsights51 I'd have to say that it's probably your parents crying still to this day over that fact that their child was born braindead. Once again you come at me with an apples to oranges comparison when that was my point to begin with. Chevy biased magazines and fans like to compare naturally aspirtated 5.0L Ford engines against supercharged 6.2L Chevy engines and cheer when the larger, supercharged engine barely eeks out a win. As for your GT500 vs. ZL1 comparison, that is absurd. The larger, supercharged 6.2L ZL1 is a turd in a straight line against the smaller 5.8L supercharged Mustang GT500 and the Camaro is only slightly better in the turns due to more expensive brakes which I might add do not make the car. As for the Z/28 destroying the GT500, you are on crack. Once again GM has to offer a larger engine to even play on the same field as Ford. They needed to stuff a 7.0L Corvette engine in a ponycar just to attempt to hold a candle to the much smaller 5.8L GT500 engine. The 2014 GT500 is faster in a drag race against the 2014 Z/28 and the only reason why the Z/28 is slightly better in the turns is because it has ridiculously wide tires that grip like racing slicks on the rear. Imagine if Ford put the same rear tires on the GT500? You Chevy boys would really be crying in you daddy's arms then.
You are a fucking moron! The Z/28 is naturally aspirated with 500 HP. The GT500 may have lower displacement, but it's fucking supercharged. Not to mention it has 662 HP. Yet it would lose to the Z/28 on a track by a good 3-5 secs at the very least. Also, nobody cares about straight line performance. You could put a big ass supercharged engine in a pickup and turn it into a 10 sec truck. Stupid ass, one thing I hate about Americans is that all anybody cares about is who would win in a fucking drag race. That is like bragging about who is stronger as opposed who could kick who's ass in a fight.
You do realize Ford has absolutely NOTHING to do with the GT40, right? The chassis was designed by the Brits and Carol Shelby did the engine. The only thing on the car that is Ford is the logo on the front. And at least Chevy doesn't go crying to Pratt and Miller or Lingenfelter every time they want a fast car . They are capable of building one on their own.
THE LS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM IS ALL FORD IN DESIGN. From the block to the firing order to the heads it is completely ford. Nothing remains from the old small block Chevy. what chevy did is the biggest crime in automotive history.
Frank289100 If it's all Ford design, how come Ford hasn't built an engine to compete since the LS's inception? I'll agree that SBFs were some of the best engines built to date, byt anything mod and newer is just junk.
***** THE MODULAR ENGINES ARE FAR MORE SUPERIOR THEN THE LS CONVENTIONAL DESIGN. BECAUSE AN ENGINE GOES FAST DOWN THE QUARTER MILE IS THE STANDARD OF JUDGING AN ENGINE. THIS MY MAN IS A BIG MISCONCEPTION. THE TRUE TEST OF AN ENGINE IS HOW IT PERFORMS IN THE REAL WORLD DAY AFTER DAY. MODULAR ENGINES IN TAXI CABS HAVE REACHED 1,000,000 MILES AND ON AVERAGE GO 500-700,000 MILES. AT 150.000 IN PASSENGER CAR USE THE LS IS ON ITS WAY OUT. SHOW ME WHERE ANY SMALL BLOCK FORD HAS FAILED TO COMPETE AGAINST THE LS? ONE GUY I RECENTLY MET HAS A STREET CAR WITH A TURBO SMALL BLOCK FORD MUSTANG THAT IS DRIVEN DAILY AND GOES TO EVENT STATE TO STATE. THE CAR DOES 7.88'S AND MAULS DOWN EVERYTHING THAT CROSSES ITS PATH. FEW YEARS BACK I WOULD ATTEND STREET RACING WHERE THEY BACK HIGHWAYS UP FOR MILES. THE FASTEST CARS WERE ALWAYS THE MUSTANG WITH A SMALL BLOCK FORD AND ITS BEEN THAT WAY FOR THE PAST 25+ YEARS. THE BIG BLOCK CHEVY'S GET MOWED DOWN. THE SMALL BLOCK CHEVY'S CAN'T COMPETE AND THE LS GUYS JUST WON'T RACE THESE FORDS. You Tube -AV boys mustang vs izzy performance vette. The mustang is a 331 naturally aspirated SBF. THE SMALL BLOCK FORD WILL ALWAYS BE KING.
Frank289100 My point exactly. I'll be the first to agree that SBFs were among the best going. Mod engines have proven to be reliable, but they are dogs unless you spend a ton of money replacing everything other than the block (blocks are pretty damn strong). Ford hasn't built a good V8 since they started building mod engines. They are completely useless unless introduced to boost. From the way I see it, Ford had the small block but not so stellar big blocks, Dodge had great big blocks, but less than stellar small blocks (neither were reliable just powerful), and GM was on the heels of both at both ends if the spectrum. The GM 350 is the definition of a good V8, cheap as hell, reliable, easy and cheap to mod, and capable of making big numbers. This is why they LS is such a such a success, it follows the same formula.
Leticia Fuentes How crapmaro cheaper? ZLowl1 gots markup...aint' no 56 K... ZLowl1 is 62 K with markup. GT500 only 56 K with markup an GT500 cost only 54 K.
The newer Mustangs are ok, but I'd rather have a Camaro or a Camaro's cousin. The classic Mustangs, for all the love, were shitty compared to the classic Camaros. If you want a sportscar that shares chassis and suspension with Ford Falcolns, and later with Pintos and Mavericks, knock yourself out but don't go fast around turns and buy plenty of door handles. Camaros outclassed Mustangs from day 1. They looked better and were made better, and noone confused them for a dressed up unweighted cheap compact. I was there. I drove both, a close friend had a 69 Mustang growing up, I had the Camaro. His car constantly fell apart and looked like a Fred Flinstone hodgepodge when parked next to my well fitted Camaro, that was well made with parts that didn't break every time you opened a door, rolled down a window, or drove thru a dirt lot. Lots of respect for the GT'S and Shelby's, but I can't understand the blind worship of Fords great idea that Chevy did better in the late 60's early 70's. The Mustangs were lighter, that's about it. Take the body panels off a Ford Falcoln and you got a Mustang. Databyter
The camaro has more than 100hp more than the mustang?! Why even compare the two. They are in different classes. Or, at least they should be. I'm not being bias towards the mustang, I absolutely hate camaros, but both of these cars are crap, for what they should have been. I'll stick with a viper and a lucra.
This is a retarded comparison. Obviously the GT500 is the one to compare to the ZL1. The Boss and the Camaro SS 1LE are rivals. I won't argue that the higher-end Camaros don't put down impressive numbers, because they do. However- you can't see out of them, they're heavy, they look like shit, and they aren't as nice to drive day to day as a current gen Mustang. The Camaro is an ergonomic and visual disaster that rides on a chassis too big for this type of car. Some clever engineering and nice engines make it a respectable performer. However, if you want a real top-end modern muscle car, the GT500 is the king. It has the most powerful mass production V8 in the world, is about 300lbs lighter than the Camaro, and it has a live axle. Yes, I did just list the live axle as an advantage. The reason? Because it's stronger, and this is a muscle car we're talking about here. A good IRS setup is of course better for handling and bumps, but that's not the most important thing about these cars. It's about going fast, looking great, and sounding like Satan. The GT500 is better at those things. It just happens to handle pretty well, and the gas mileage ain't that bad either.
Typical Ford guy! Always losing and always reacting to defeat in the same manner, which is to pulls and not existent stings to try and convince people that his absurd absolutism in life is not always on the side of defeat. If you don't want to come across as a sore looser then my god; choose the winning team or at least admit defeat.
WarEagle33x Your probably right about that, but it just don't seem right with the HP difference here. i'm Mustang guy, so i guess i'd just like to see it!
Yea, but honestly the 302 is a consistently better track car than the GT500. I've only seen one video of the GT500 putting down a better lap time than the ZL1, yet countless of the opposite.
Chevy always is trailing Ford. Zl-1 is z piece of heavy garbage.. Needs the supercharger just to get going.. It'd like riding s super fat pig with a much needed rocket strapped to its back. Sorry Chevy, keep trying.
Chevy is always trailing Ford. Gt350r kicked the shit out of the top of the line super charged Camaro. Camaro is going out of production again and mustang isn't. End of discussion.
All we need to know... not first on race day here. Especially when you consider the 2013 SS 1LE was marginally (~0.9) slower than frod GT and GT500. 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, 2:57.5 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, 3:00.6 2006 Ford GT, 3:00.7 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, 3:01.5 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca, 3:02.8 2011 Ford Shelby GT500, 3:04.0 2015 Ford Mustang GT, 3:05.2 2007 Ford Shelby GT500, 3:05.9
Man i love muscle cars... just, after riding with my bro in his Evo X from 2009... its a big difference between safe car you buy for family and yourself and fast car that you buy for tuning and drag racing. Still... both classes have my respect, just im Muscle cars fan. :)
I am a mustang guy (2004 gt)... things is I am not blinded by people biased crap. The thing is mustangs camaros and challagers and all good fast sold cars and each one of these cars are a blast to driver all of them are worthy of respect
The best thing about the Mustang and the Camaro? They both feed off of each other and constantly make Chevy and Ford to push the envelope through competition.
More room for improvement with mustnags so easy to do.
And now the camaro is dead basically

ZL1 vs GT500
Z/28 vs Boss 302
Michael Ortiz ok then. Let the gt350 embarrass the z28 then 😂
@Michael Ortiz No, the ZL1 is the car with supercharger, the z28 is the one with 427, and 507 hp
@@StockGT350 The GT350 can't embarrass the Z28. You need a GT350r to slightly beat a z28. And you'd need to shell out 70-80k for a R. The zl1 is the top line for the camaro. the boss 302 is not for the mustang, the Shelby gt500 would be a better comparison.
Are you stupid ? This is the top of the line mustang for fords track car . Idiot the fucking gt500 is not a track car . It will loose for it having too much power and not the suspension to support it .
Btw the z28 is the top of line camaro for the track . Which is number one right now
Greggory Oakley If you are going to compare the ZL1 ($60000) to the super snake ($100000) That ZL1 better be modified lol.
Been done look around on youtube.
The boss is faster on the track on than the gt500. And that's all ford has
Consider the zl1's power, active magnetic suspension, huge breaks VS the modest n/a 5.0 with factory suspension and brake setup being only 2 seconds behind is outstanding! That tells me with some suspension and brake tweaks it'd be neck and neck even with the power handicap...
2019 anyone?
Mahin Khandker me towards the end of 2019 😭
Hahaha, btw how much does it coast todays in USA (BOSS mod 2013)
@@tonymouawad5207 around $30,000-$40,000 for a nice one

how do you compare a naturally aspirated 5.0 to a supercharged 6.2? lmao
They should have compared the GT 350 with the ZL1 there’s a bit of a gap in price between the boss and the ZL1
Psychic Pie the gt350 didn’t exist in 2012
Lazy Doge Productions oh my bad
@@s1mplistic999 the gt350 been around longer than that
Zl1 isn’t even a track car for Chevy and we still destroyed u guys
THIS HAS BEEN A PAID ADVERTISEMENT BY CHEVY, Thank you for your co-operation.
Onegoal2006 your grammar gave me cancer.
Mustang lost by 2 seconds, because is slower. That's the bottom line.
+Xample: CSGO Not even usually....lol
+mfnbigdaddy73 nope, almost always prick
dakota croasdale Mustangs aren't "usually " on top, you dumb fuck !
Price difference? I'm sure the Chevy was more.
Sorry I have to agree with these people mustang is not usually in top bro wth?
To this day, I look back and think, wow! This match up was so unfair.
@ gt500 & z28
I love the raw lightweight approach to performance...
a supercharged 6.2 vs a naturally aspirated 5.0 how the hell is this fair wtf!
i know right
It's about track performance not a drag race. The shelby isn't as fast around a track as this mustang,
That's irrelevant bro... It's all about price and yes these 2 cars are in the same price class
+MrTxblksteel the 2016 Camaro beats the GT350...
yeah...supercharged...and still only a second faster
Hmmmm the chevy only has like 40% more power than the boss 302, so why was this a comparison?
If this guy was my driver, I'd never make it to work late again
How can Motor Trend make this comparison Super charged and Non Super charged and the driver is biased anyway .
From a Boss owner
I think if you slapped a Whipple supercharger on the Mustang, upgraded the brakes to Brembo or some other name aftermarket big brake kit, with six or eight piston calipers, I think the Mustang would whoop the Chevy's ass. Just from what I see from the video. A two second lap time difference? With smaller brakes and a 100+ hp difference? This comparison is actually doing more for the Ford than the Chev....
This video is also over 4 years old
It also has the live axle suspension against independent, magnetic shocks.
You're butthurt arent you
With the reveal of the 2015 Mustang we completely forgot to do our monthly post about Mustang sales.
$8,000 worth of mods will make the mustang faster
You don't even need $8000 worth of mods. Give me only $4000 and I can have the Boss handle as good if not better than a ZL1.
still cheaper than the camaro, and better looking
You don't even need mods just get a GT500.
yea but those don't corner as well
They don't need to corner its a 10 sec car. Its built really for a strip.
I thought that was one of the most straight forward and honest comparisons of these two cars that I have seen. No bias at all!!
Guys were muscle cars we need to unite and love ford and Chevy for god sakes there much more to hate like hondas....
i luv u.
Someone who gets me!!!! Thank you
Carl Stallins the gt 350?
Carl Stallins you're closed minded this year was great for muscle cars the gt 350 z28 and z06 whooped some over priced import ass and dodge well dodge took a really big motor and supercharged it and got 4 digit hp

Wait, so back in 2012.. before the GT350 came out.. you would have chosen a Boss 302 over a ZL1?
This vid was 11 years ago and y’all saying it should of raced A gt350 😂
I like both, just tend to lean toward the Camaro. There's just something about it. Now for me, power doesn't mean much if you can't control it.
i chose the mustang cuz of visibility, my cousin got an ss and you can't see shit through the rear window. I gotta look out for them popos!
tomnguyen717 the Mustang does have that. I wish Chevy would make the back window wider and it'll be perfect.
If you want a performance sedan, get a Charger SRT8 or Chevy SS, or Taurus SHO if you don't mind a FWD-based car.
snakesonaplane2 I like the Dodge Challenger body style but not the Charger, I will check out the SS and the SHO, thanks for the info
As a mustang owner (2014 GT Track Pack) and lover, I have no qualms with this test. The ZL1 is amazing and Chevy should be proud.
I love Camaros. They're my favorite car

Take me back to those days
Everyone constantly argues about what is faster, But hands down I'd rather pull up in a Camaro just to take yo B*%#@.
Mustang is simply better from the drag race of the Camaro ss vs mustang gt, bu this one is total bs, chevy boys are happy that they heavy ass car finally get a W
because its only bs if you lose I see XD
I
Why do all u kids care about weather the car is traxck worthy? As a kids we don't track race we drag race! And on top of that Chevy put up the best camaro so they should have got the gt500
Jaleel Lewis It's always funny to see people telling others they "don't know shit" when you're actually the one sitting alone in the toilet bowl.
It's all about the tires. The Trofeo R's are the fastest street tire you can buy.
??? Either of these cars had Trofeo R tires? Also I never have seen a test where the Trofeo R has been compared to the Viper ACR's Kumho tires.
I agree. I would've much more preferred seeing a GT500 vs. ZL1 battle. I'll be looking for that next
the ZL1 is a beast love my ZL1 5 Gen manual transmission Recaro seats!
you dont put a zl1 on a boss you put it on a gt 500
The Plymouth Barracuda was actually the first pony car, it beat the mustang by 2 weeks; obviously it wasn't as popular. I have never been a Mustang fan, it looks like recently Ford finally got sick enough of losing to do something about it. I still prefer the camaro even over the GT500.
Pretty cool seeing the exact same boss mustang today. Saw it fly by and heard it for the next few blocks! Damn it sounded loud and mean!
Regardless me being a Camaro fan, the only thing I noticed about this comparison was the brakes, and if the Mustang had had better brakes I would have like the Mustang, but not having confidence in what you are driving is a MAJOR flaw!
Jager1988 Drive channel melted the gt-500's brakes in 15min.
Those Mustange brembo brakes are junk.
Brenbo brakes are not a major flaw!!!WTF
JAYMAG Brownstone
The brakes they chose are junk.
"Drive channel" were flabbergasted how their brembo brakes lasted 15min and then melted.
MT super snake's disk brakes exploded.
Motor trend's gt-500 brakes melted in 3min.
Stephen Bagnell yea they say that there are brembo brakes on the mustang but i dont believe it.. brembo wouldnt make pos brakes like that
marc ginsberg
Ford has outsourced everything.
it doesn't surprise me that they chose shitty brakes to keep costs down.
Let's see how the camaro does against the Dodge Challenger Hellcat!
challenger hellcat on that racetrack?? Thats a "straigt forward car"
That's still sad tho 2 sec difference between a n/a motor and a supercharged engine is pathetic
Love all American muscle cars old and new... glad what the big three are doing and it's about time! Let the pony car rivalry continue!
Sup3r6f0ur Power to weight ratios are very similar?..... don't think so mate, ZL1 has 315hp/tonne vs the Mustang's 268hp/tonne.
R.I.P headphone users!!!

Im reading the comments first next time
the new gt350 should even things up
GT500supersnake 2009 it did a 7.32 around the nurburgring ?? how is it not any faster???
They claim 7:32 but where is the video? The z28 did a retest in dry conditions and got on average, 6-7 second better overall times.
wheres the evidence for your claim then??
Its in an article i read awhile ago, and even if i had made that up, a z28 on a dry surface would do way better than on the wet one it was on when it had set that time.
And cmon, ford isnt known for having track cars, they built the Ford gt 10 years ago and the c6 z06 annihilated it by 30 seconds. All of these statements are facts.. if you were wondering lol.
The gt350 might not beat it but the gt350r will destroy the z28 and the new z06
The Camaro's engine sound. Wow. What a beauty. Chevrolet have really done a good job on this one.
i like this comparo. Although the ZL1 is the GT500 of the Camaros - so it is an unfair comparison (I'm sure motortrend got an ear full). But the ZL1 will still out perform the GT500 on the track because of it's modern magnetic suspension and better rear brakes. Still boggled as to why Ford put brembos only on the front of the car.
its called camaro
A boss 302 vs a zl1 wtf?
Now that i remember, there is a race at Laguna Seca in Forza 4 that is all Mustangs and Camaros.
love that game
same in Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6
lol, just remember that the mustang was $8,000 less and only lost by 2 sec, anyone could put an extra $8,000 in that mustang and make it beat that camaro.
For real. You could invest those $8k into a supercharger set up that would over power the mustang with only a little weight gain but that wouldn't matter because power to weight ratio is what you need to win.
no, just no. GM motors are killing the game right now. They stepped up with the new corvette & camaro
@@headon434 gm been killing it
Bowtie lovers, just remember what Chevro-kill-ya had to do to that Camaro , to get it just 2 seconds faster than the true pony car.
Exactly.
That was the BEST mustang that was available.other than the 5.0 track pack.
my vote for Chevy went out the window when my f-150 beat my brothers camaro.
Id put my 2016 SS vs your F-150 all day lol... are you serious right now? Unless you have some ridiculously modded F-150 or your brother has a V6, I'm calling BS.
+Torian Richardson 460 big block we cammed and bored with twin turbos.
So your reasoning for voting out a stock Camaro is because your HIGHLY modified truck happened to beat one? Yea makes sense to me....
+Torian Richardson it wasn't stock but you tried 😂😂
Jacob Kean Lol your story gets more and more complex as time rolls by. I'll give you another 24 hours to make up what mods the Camaro had in it. In any case, a STOCK F-150 would get SMOKED by a STOCK Camaro. Your argument is retarded anyway you put it. That's like some idiot saying they vote out a Bugatti because their 2000 hp modified drag car beat it in a drag. I guess asking for video of your so called super F-150 racing anything isn't and will never be available.
look at so many differences
price
engine size
power output

The zl1 isnt even chevy's track camaro. They should have compared the boss 302 with the z28, because the z28 would have annihilated the mustang.
Todd Rich This video was uploaded in 2012. Z/28 was released in 2014.
Moron the z28 didn't exist during this video.. and it would be faster? For almost 80k I'd fricken hope so
matthew von actually you are the moron the z28 has been a type of Camaro for ever I own a 1999 z28
SilverArrowplaysmc Look it up dumbass the Z- 28 just came back out!The Z-28 was not available in the new Camaros until now.
Ironsights51 GT 40, GT....end of story.
They are capable of building one on their own.
tears fall from ford guys
At last, the americans have been figured out that cars have to face corners sometimes, great!
The Corvette's been doing that for a looong time, dude.
Yeah, the Vette's cornered better than its international competitors for about 51 years now.
It's at least as good, if not better now.
maybe in your dreams...maybe
Have any proof or are you just going to leave it at that?
I still love Fords, I think they sound and look way better. My favorite Ford is the 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1.
Chevy would need a supercharger to even come close to a mustangs power.
The Mustang is much cooler car than the camaro. Mustangs Rule!
5.0 all motor vs 6.2 super charged Chevys trying really hard lol
Look back at this video, though it was not an even comparison, it was a great time for muscle cars
THE LS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM IS ALL FORD IN DESIGN. From the block to the firing order to the heads it is completely ford. Nothing remains from the old small block Chevy. what chevy did is the biggest crime in automotive history.
WOW!!! This has to be one of the dumbest comments I've ever seen.
Cotil3Boy47 THE CHEVY SMALL BLOCK WENT RIGHT INTO THE GARBAGE CAN IN 1997.
140 hp dissadvantage!
ford make smalls motors but good power in the others... ford best;;;;;;
I'd like to see the Zl1 against the Shelby. Oh wait I already did, and the Zl1 died a sorrow death.
Camaro are the best
Camaro is like 7 Grand more obviously it's gonna have Better brakes
camaros are way cheaper than mustangs
Leticia Fuentes How crapmaro cheaper? ZLowl1 gots markup...aint' no 56 K... ZLowl1 is 62 K with markup. GT500 only 56 K with markup an GT500 cost only 54 K.
and the zl1 is the only one every other camaro is under 25 besides the ss
actually its a Corvette. it has a Corvette Chassis. GM cheated by using Independent suspension instead of perfecting the straight axle
how did they cheat when they made the corvette regardless camaro is better than the mustang i had the 5.0 my zl1 is wayyy better
If you don't like the U.S.A then leave
?
Databyter
Why have a supercharged against a regular V8?
The camaro has more than 100hp more than the mustang?! Why even compare the two. They are in different classes. Or, at least they should be. I'm not being bias towards the mustang, I absolutely hate camaros, but both of these cars are crap, for what they should have been. I'll stick with a viper and a lucra.
.
omg, pony cars vs super cars.. such a fair comparison. Get your budget straight, first.
kiraanimerawr1 I wouldn't even call the Viper a supercar. xD It's more of a glorified sports car.
They should of used the Roush mustang
"look like shit"
HAHA
I miss these days of Motortrend most....
You can't put a 302 up against a ZL1, let's see the GT500.
ZL1 is the far superior track car to the GT500.
Ford, Built without your tax dollars
I'd rather push a Ford then drive a Chevy.
That's good. Because that's what you'll be doing. 🤣 I kid!
The pure nostalgia from this video
chevy...a REAL american revolution!
(made in mexico..)
well isn't Mexico in America?
+Omar Tarek basically
One word: Shelby
i knew it the camaro was faster
I would say the Mustang did very well considering the position mororntrend put it in
Step behind the mustang in handling? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
*cornering
Chevy always is trailing Ford. Zl-1 is z piece of heavy garbage.. Needs the supercharger just to get going.. It'd like riding s super fat pig with a much needed rocket strapped to its back. Sorry Chevy, keep trying.
You should learn how to spell. Keep trying!
Awww looks like a mad Ford fanboy, sorry about the horrible defeat of your fav company 😂😂😂. Keep trying.
+salvador lopez be real
Chevy is always trailing Ford. Gt350r kicked the shit out of the top of the line super charged Camaro. Camaro is going out of production again and mustang isn't. End of discussion.
CAMARO was better than shelby and always will be better . SHELBY fans - you just do not want to deal with it ;)
they actually shoud compare the zl1 with the gt500 because the difference is too big, between the zl1 and the boss.
All we need to know... not first on race day here. Especially when you consider the 2013 SS 1LE was marginally (~0.9) slower than frod GT and GT500.
2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, 2:57.5
2013 Ford Shelby GT500, 3:00.6
2006 Ford GT, 3:00.7
2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, 3:01.5
2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca, 3:02.8
2011 Ford Shelby GT500, 3:04.0
2015 Ford Mustang GT, 3:05.2
2007 Ford Shelby GT500, 3:05.9
Man i love muscle cars... just, after riding with my bro in his Evo X from 2009... its a big difference between safe car you buy for family and yourself and fast car that you buy for tuning and drag racing. Still... both classes have my respect, just im Muscle cars fan. :)
They should do a drag race with this two legendary muscle cars
let's make it a little more interesting and compare the two with a 5.0l cap like in the original trans am series race
I understand camaro vs mustang is a big debate, but both are unbelievable cars
I am a mustang guy (2004 gt)... things is I am not blinded by people biased crap. The thing is mustangs camaros and challagers and all good fast sold cars and each one of these cars are a blast to driver all of them are worthy of respect
The best thing about the Mustang and the Camaro? They both feed off of each other and constantly make Chevy and Ford to push the envelope through competition.
The Boss just looks so much better
