@BradleyHallGuitar I have a theory, and I want to know your thoughts on it. Here goes.... On Metallica's Ride The Lightning song, Mustaine is given writing credit and Hammet is given none. I know that Dave has talked about writing the spider chord for that song but I think that Mustaine also wrote the solo. I know that Mustaine was out of the band long before the album was recorded so Kirk would have played the album version but there are some other signs that it was written by Mustaine. Metallica, never plays Ride The Lightning live. This is true for songs written by Mustaine. You can see it in the 88 concert footage from Live Shit Binge and Purge where Kirk starts to play Jump in The Fire and James won't join in. Kirk gets on the mic and says: "James is just pissed off because he didn't write that song.' But it's not always the case. The Four Horsemen gets played live and that's a song written by Mustaine. If you listen to The Mechanix it's almost the same song with different lyrics. Supposedly, Mustaine only wrote the spider chord on Ride The Lightning. Here's the real kicker. I saw a UA-cam video of Kirk trying to play the solo for Ride The Lightning during a practice session and he couldn't play it. He was fucking it up badly. Now.....listen to the actual solo. No other solo that Kirk plays on any Metallica album sounds like that solo. I truly believe that Mustaine wrote it, Kirk laid it down once for the album recording, and probably never played it again.
I was at the first show they did on their 20th Anniversary RIP Tour, where they played the album in its entirety. So, I was part of the group of people the first heard 5M and PwtC Live. It was in Spokane, WA. in 2010.
At least it’s a cool song. I get corny songs I don’t like stuck in my head. Like go to a store with music we’ve heard 10,000 times and then goes through my head for hours to days. Today I heard Africa by Toto, and I like the song enough, but get out of my head!!!! Hours! Hold the Line did that to me a few months ago too. I like those songs but it drives me nuts. Especially if it is a song I don’t like just hearing it everywhere 1,000,000 times it just sticks in my head.
@@neilbeaton9498 Because the rest of their discography, except for maybe countdown and youthanasia, are mediocre or outright bad albums that *might* have a few standout songs.
Same, I think Peace Sells is awesome and KIMB is actually pretty good after the Final Kill remaster, but the rest of their discography I don't really care much about. However, Rust in Peace is my favorite metal album of all time and peak metal IMO.
It's a great album. Good solos, riffs, and decent lyrics a, but definitely not what I would choose for best Metal album. In my book it's gotta be Nocturnal by The Black Dahlia Murder
You might be right! I was lucky enough to do a 90 minute live interview Dave, Dave, Nick & Marty at WSOU in NJ on the Rust tour, it was one of the coolest moments of my life. They introduced 7 of the 9 tracks along with 2 songs each from Peace Sells and So Far So Good So What. I have a copy of it it on an old 1/4” tape, need to get it digitized one day.
@@deforajidos lol In my late teens I sounded like a chipmunk on speed back then, even worse than I do now! Plus, it’s on 1/4” reel to reel tape! One day I’ll have to somehow store it digitally.
The video suddenly turned into 144p, I'm so used to Bradley's ridiculous (funny and in a good way of course) editing that at first, I thought it was one of his editing shenanigans 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hanger 18 is my favourite on tbat album, i just love how it tunrs in to an instrumental solo battle. It seemed almost risky to make a track with so little vocals but the guitar playing is so strong that IT JUST WORKS
@@BradleyHallGuitar really though, RIP has some really good guitarwork. As a guitarist myself, listening to the album itself makes my hands hurt haha, it's truly a revolutionary album and honestly I respect it! Calling it the BEST METAL ALBUM of all time is a hard decision as there are so many other greats tho! It's a solid album
They're all great but my fav is probably the title track. It's the brutal metal annihilation of all life on Earth following a nuclear exchange between the superpowers. It’s terrifying, it’s sardonic, and it STILL TO THIS DAY raises the hairs on the back of my neck decades after my first listen.
I love the song, but the chorus is godawful. I mean, there *had* to have been a way to write a better chorus than "I spread disease like a dog Discharge my payload a mile high Rotten egg air of death wrestles your nostrils"
Every time I listen to any song from this album it blows my fucking mind that someone can write like 35 minutes of riffs and 10 minutes of solos that sound like this
I think the key tempo change thing in hanger 18 is awesome. Every time I listen to that song I’m head banging then it switches to the groove part and I’m vibin. Great song
Rust in Peace was like a gateway drug to melodeath for me, great album. The rhythm section between Ellefson and Menza is groovy af too. And whether you play guitar, bass or drums every song is a lot of fun to play.
The first song that introduced me to Megadeth was Lucretia. So, it'll always be special to me. Tornado of Souls is a certified banger, as is the rest of the Rust in Peace album.
thanks for the great video! at 9:36 your all over the high and low strings doing sweep picking, i dont think that part has any sweep picking at all unless I'm missing something. I dont think there are any sweeps in that tornado solo.

Ozzy ozbourne no more tears track where its starts chugging; theres 1 extra beat that zack does that makes it all sound wrong?

Yeah LOL.
I think you'll find it's the first time I've covered this album on this channel
@@BradleyHallGuitarpick up the pace slacker!! We need more MEGADETH!
Fact: Five Magics is an absolute master piece and rarely played live or talked about.
There is an amazing live sound check of five magics floating around on UA-cam with the Rust lineup 🔥
Five Magics is massively underrated
AGREED
Dave won't play it or the Conjuring ever since he became a born again Christian.

Hangar 18 is a song that every now and then randomly pops into my head, and then it just gets stuck in there for an entire week.
That intro loop in playing in my head now

I am not a Megadeth fan, but this album is INCREDIBLE!
Kinda same, in my playlist i got like the whole album in and then its just 7-8 more songs

I agree, Youth in Asia is ok (RIP females)
Just cause Marty is so amazing, this is his reason he's one of the best metal lead guitarists of all time!
I'm always reminded of a headline from The Onion: "Humanity Still Producing New Art As Though Megadeth’s ‘Rust In Peace’ Doesn’t Already Exist"
I can’t believe I’ve never seen this as both a fan of megadeth and the onion. This is beautiful. Thank you.
Fact: it was the only non-satirical article The Onion ever published
Dave wrote that Call of Ctulu riff. Max Norman mixed this album. He was so instrumental in Megadeth refining their sound.
While Mike Clink was busy with Guns and Roses making Use Your Illusion
yes, theres four songs with that riff when, the sleep, beneath the remains and call of kutulu
Instrumental? But there's vocals
What are YOUR thoughts on Rust In Peace??
Well.... To be honest, it's not even the best Megadeth album
funy
Honestly, not a bad album! I love the guitarwork and it's a fine album. There are many other great albums in metal too tho
City of evil is better

Same! I still sing those lyrics to 'pull harder' because I've never looked them up in 16 years
I had the cassette cover autographed by the band at tower records around the time this was released. Great album.
Same here, but with the CD at Tower Records in NYC. I have some pics too. Same when Pantera released Far Beyond Driven.
Five magics, take no prisoners, and poison was the cure are the best.

Lucretia has that almost like a GnR groove to it
Dave- play like you from outer space
Marty- fucking aye. 🤟

Does anyone know how to watch the full stream?

Lucretia is my favorite because of the first part of the solo
Lucretia has the most underrated solo and it is perfect
We need this for a Mastodon record!!
Holy shit he knows how Rust in Peace was written.
really fan to watch how Marty Friedman itself rates his own album omg xdxd
Because it is. Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.
Perfect metal album. Along with Painkiller and And…Justice for All
And justice for all sounds like shit.
Preferred Ram it down, but And Justice was good despite the mix.
Rust in Peace is metal Illmatic
I think the key tempo change thing in hanger 18 is awesome. Every time I listen to that song I’m head banging then it switches to the groove part and I’m vibin. Great song
How's about Ride the lightning?
Rest in power Nick menza. Gone, but not forgotten. At least he went out on his shield, and he died happy!
Five magics is my fave too! Especially the section before the pre solo riffing
I'm Seeing megadeth in Nashville on 28th of September

Five Magics and Polaris are so underrated
One of the five magics is dermatology

My favorite song on this album depends on the day and my mood. Sometimes it’s 5 magics, Lucretia, Hangar, Tornado, or Holy Wars.
I'll take your 'Rust In Peace' riff and raise you one 'Liar'...Now that's a banger.
This is the very first album when I discovered the band. Lucretia is my favorite ! I just looooooove that palm muting 😊
I see Bradley doing some Rust in Peace related video, I click.
Holy Wars is I think maybe the best Thrash Metal song, period

I got goosebumps the whole video, I can't chose a favorite song, I am to insignificant to give an opinion about this masterpiece album.
In my mind, Take no Prisoners is pretty much the essence of thrash metal.
I don't understand how guitarists in the 80's and 90's just sat down and came up with the things they did with what they had back then.
The first song that introduced me to Megadeth was Lucretia. So, it'll always be special to me.
Tornado of Souls is a certified banger, as is the rest of the Rust in Peace album.

The whole album is so good. My personal favorite is 'Hanger 18' (very hard to even choose a personal favorite)
Now I'm picturing Dave wandering around his house high and talking to ghosts.
Not only is Lucretia my favourite song on the album, it is my favourite Megadeth song period. "They all say, Dave, you're mental anyway yeah..."
Hangar 18 is a masterpiece of a song especially that sudden transition!!!
I mean it's alright
I tried to play 5 magics, I only got 4 and a half
