The aerial view of your property is beautiful. The pride really shows out on your property. We are expecting 8 inches of snow, come Monday. Watching this and knowing spring is around corner makes it all worth the wait.
Hey, Pete! Awesome video. I agree 100%. Just started a Lawn Care Service (down in Lexington, NC) so right down the street from you. Huge fan. And, going to be purchasing your Fescue seed for clients. Been a fan for about one year. Keep the videos coming. Always watch. Love your home. The yard is tops!
I cannot wait to save up for bag of you TTTF!! Been watching your videos forever and maintaining Scott’s tall fescue really only so much you can do for what cultivar in Scott’s.
I'm so glad that Pete said it, because I was certainly thinking it. Now, he knows how we feel when we watch him mow and show his yard... PUMPED. Granted, I'm in RI, with 10° temperatures and a potential huge snow event coming Monday and Tuesday... but I'm certainly itching to go!!!
Expecting our first snow in NoVA (3 to 5 in). I've actually got some dormant seeded Midnight KBG that has germinated. Seeded November and Fertilized December 30th (don't ask me why) and now this in January. Ground temp at the time of germination mid 40s. It's about 3/8 in tall. Pretty crazy.
I agree 100% Pete. I installed my KBG sod in 2008 and I have never had crabgrass in my lawn. Even with the neighbors surrounding me with it. I only started using Pre Em the last few years watching UA-cam but before that didn't use any pre emergent. The lawn was always kept at 3 - 3.5 HOC and for the last two seasons reel mowing 1" and below. Thick grass crowds out crabgrass as long as there aren't any bare spot for it to attack first :)
Thank you for this, it is one of the best lessons I learned when I got in to this a few years ago. So many people look for chemicals to solve everything without first establishing a thick, strong foundation. For the pain in the ass that crabgrass can be, it doesn't stand a chance against a thick TTTF yard at 4". It is funny though to see 4.5" clover creep up from time to time.
thanks pete...as I sit here watching your video....its blowing 40 outside and the dirt in the air has it looking grey and brown to make it a cool wintery day. Be gone with the grey and brown...im ready for some green grass and flowering plants!
Here in Texas, soil Temps getting to that magic number to start tossing down pre-emergent and early start to my Bermuda domination lol. Love ur videos sir! God bless!
Now would be a good time to go over sprayer maintenance and when product application rates aren't the only important factor. Sometimes water gal/acre need to be used in conjunction with herbicide application rates. Went through my pull behind sprayer today cleaning screens, checking orings, etc. Just a thought you would be very good with the detail you are so good at explaining.
I missed my application window Jan / early-Feb here in CA, now I have to get on top of weeds that have begun to sprout up 😥 🧐 Thanks for the video Pete
If you did the renovation in the fall, you’re good to throw down when your soil temps are ready. I renovated twice with the cool blue in fall and used pre emergent in the spring no problem.
I have a little tiny Wright stander 32” that I mow my yard and about 10 other of my neighbors with gated backyards. When I do my renovation with your seed this fall, will that heavy stand on mower damage that turf? I see your using a wright walk behind instead of a stander. Is that to minimize damage when turning? Or should I just mow my yard with a push mower with my striping kit? Thanks!
Thanks Pete. I too am itching to get out there and start cutting grass. One thing you didn't mention with regards to pre emergent is... once you put it down, it needs to be watered in or put down before rain, right?
I feel the same way you do i cannot wait to be on that mower again and making sweet stripes 😎 thanks for the great and helpful video pete I certainly enjoyed it 😊
I gotta know, whats your mileage on your step counter when mowing your property. I have nearly a 1/4 acre and clock almost 5 miles after all my passes. Great channel by the way, keep up the great work
Pete that’s a beautiful yard, I’d love to have a yard like that. What grass seed do you use for all season. I’m moving to a new location and will definitely be working at getting a yard similar to yours. I’ve got a question what works best to stripe a lawn .
I live in Indiana, 20 minutes south of Indianapolis. I have Kentucky bluegrass and rye, how can I keep my turf thick all year with out an irrigation system, only relying on Mother Nature? 15,000sf.
Hey Pete. Just curious if putting down mesotrione as a second app instead of another round of prodiamine is a smart option to control some broadleaf weeds? Or is it better to do the second hit with prodiamine again? Thanks!
Prodiamine does help with reducing weeds but to me just isnt my pic. I would rather spray post emergents. It stains the tank yellow and with a breeze gets it all over your boots or pants if you walk behind tank spray it. Any idea on getting it out of clothes other than trash them?
great video Pete. Can I put the Prodiamine WDG into the tank sprayer with N-Ext Compaction Cure Combo? I have a very heavy clay soil here in the DFW area. Want to put down the Prodiamine in the next few weeks.
Hey Pete, I just ordered. So will 1 app of the Prodiamine applied correctly work.. or 2? I can't wait to hit the yard with that 18-0-1 once temps get right ...
Pete or anyone. I seeded with GCI TTTF in fall of 2019 and your Cool Blue in fall of 2020. Will these hold up to heavy foot traffic around my pool? Or should I go with a summer turf in my backyard. ?? I don’t want the grass to die or turn brown in the heavy foot traffic areas. Any suggestions?
great question and that's very hard to answer because there are so many different definitions to "heavy foot traffic" . your weather, watering habits, and lawn care program, in general, will all dictate how well the turf handles traffic
Sounds like you are on a good plan. As long as you water well so the turf is at its best all year then it will tolerate the traffic to the turfs actual limit. Meaning turf has a limit regardless of how well you care for it. If you ride a bike to much you’ll eventual wear out the bike. That make sense?
Hey Pete! Question regarding split apps of prodiamine. This label states that at a low rate that you should wait 4 months till overseeing. If I were to do split apps (like in your guides and videos recommend) wouldn’t this affect my seeding project for the fall. Say I put down an app now in late March. Then another in late may. I would be nervous to seed in September. Any advise on this? Thanks!
Hey Pete, long story short I got hit with dallisgrass bad last year. I bit the bullet and went after it with pylex. Then last fall reseeded ( just about started over!). I'm sure I've got dallisgrass seed hiding in the soil. I tried to bag and discard mowing as often as I could to minimize this pre pylex.. So here's the question prodiamine or dithyaper? I ask because I don't see dallisgrass seed/seedlings listed on prodiamine's label...only dithyaper. What would you recommend...Ken in knoxville tttf. God bless and have a good one!
Pete! love these videos and very happy with how my fall reno went with your Cool Blue grass seed! I'm out here in Southern California in the transition zone. My question is with the cool blue seed being a mix of TTTF and KGB, what rate of Prodiamine do I put down? I see the label specifically calls out different rates for TTTF vs KBG. Just assuming the lesser of the 2, however the majority of the seed is TTTF..... perhaps a hybrid?
Hey man, great stuff and awesome video footage. If I may, do you have you Centipede seed for order, and what are your recommendations on a good sprayer for your pre-emergent? Keep up the great work, thanks again and Godbless.
Pete, unless I'm missing it in the description, how many sq feet will the 5lb bottle of WDG prodiamine cover? I think you mentioned in a video several years ago that the wdg version is more cost effective over the granular. I have approximately 26K sq ft of turf to cover. Thanks!
Man, all this talk about pre-emergent and nobody comments on how effortless it is to run that big hydro walk-behind mower. Should do a pass with a belt drive and show the pain (in the rear) that they can be!
I would not like to be your neighbor. Take that as a compliment. I would be envious and would want my yard to look just as good as yours but I wouldn’t put that much effort into it.
Can this be applied at time of seeding?
Here is my opinion on that eepurl.com/hpgRgv

Ordered my biostimulants today! I'm itching to go even went with each in the 2.5 gallons over the 1 gallon this year. Cant wait!
I started using them last year! They are fantastic!
Prodiamine is king. I’m doing a split app of granular and liquid this year. I was crabgrass free last few years. 💥

Two more months here in NY but I’m ready. Maybe I’ll fire up the mower when I fire up the snowblower this Monday lol.
Is it ok to go ahead and squirt & fert if the weather is nice this week, but then temperatures drop to 11 degrees one day next week?
Those drone shots are fire 🔥! Pete, what do you think is causing the discoloring in the back half of your neighbors yard?
