People are calling Olivia’s ending a happy one, but I’m honestly not so sure. She only ever gained her confidence and will by massacring 11 innocent people and 2 guilty ones. She gained power from that, but I can’t help but wonder if the therapy that helped her come to terms with it all of it made her just accept that the best way to get something is to take it, regardless of who’s in your way. I guess just the way it’s phrased makes it seem a little menacing, kind of maniacal. “I did this, it was all me, and I’m proud,” Isn’t exactly the healthiest outlook when it comes to committing mass murder. Her whole life she’s been in the shadow of her sister, then was relegated to a wheelchair, and it was all people saw when they looked at her. Now, she’s more than who her family is and more than the chair she’s confined to, and I can’t help but wonder if she regrets anything she did during the festival in more than an instinctual way. I guess what I’m saying is, I wonder if she’ll ever kill again to her way, or to rise above expectations. It’s such a contrast to how sweet she normally is that even she can be warped by the moon and circumstance to be proud of murder. Maybe I’m overthinking things though.
It's a bittersweet ending, really. Yes, she had to kill, claw, fight, and destroy every step of the way. She went above and beyond even in a wheelchair. And she'd find peace, freedom, and knowledge beyond her human limitations. She is truly free, when she has always felt so trapped. Trapped by her inability to walk, trapped by the pity of others, trapped by a world not designed to aid her. Olivia won her freedom with the control over nature itself. She finally has a world that cares and nurtures for her, never truly relying on others to get by.
