Get yourself a cup of tea because today is a long one! Hope you liked this weekly vlog, they will be here every Tuesday for you to enjoy! The carpenter is coming this Friday and work will begin on the kitchen shortly so renovation vlogs will be back! Who is excited?
The house is just beautiful! Excited for you guys! Any chance you have a code for the weDo products? I'll give them a try if available in the US and of course would love for you to get credit. ;o)
If you are getting rid of the bamboo, you should cut and save at least some of it for trellises and cages for tomatoes/beans/cucumbers/. ...! I've been using bamboo picked up in an abandonded area for ages, they're super easy to make with just a bit of twine, and it works perfectly for that, plus it's zero waste, local, and free :)
What a lovely video. I fixed a cup of coffee to have while watching it, and felt so content the entire time. There were so many different subject matters covered that it was like having a cup of coffee over at a friend's house while they told you all their plans for the place. Very fun to watch. I think the colors you chose will compliment each other nicely. I personally like the idea of the darker green for both the dresser and the island. I think that if those two things were both painted a darker green, it would be a nice contrast to the lighter colors...and also offer a nice focal point when you entered the room. Just a thought.☺
36:58 I also really like them. Those wafer biscuits by Manner are Austrian. I'm from Germany and they are very popular here. I love that they are accidentally vegan!
I like the idea of the dresser being a darker green than the rest of the kitchen, that'd look lovely, but have you considered something like a rose or blush pink? That could be wonderful in a sage green kitchen. Or, if you do go for the bright white on the walls, you can paint the dresser the same cream as the aga.
@@MadeleineOlivia I was concerned about having a freezer between the stove and the fireplace, won't that make it have to work much harder to maintain temperature? It's a visually neat spot and it really doesn't impact me obviously, but I was curious if this would have an impact and be worth considering? Your kitchen is going to be stunning, I'm so excited for you!!
I love the length of this video! It was a nice video for the end of the day. Regarding the paint, I really like the "brilliant white" for the walls and "lighter, brighter green" for the cupboard. I think going for the lighter and brighter colors will really refresh the space and make it brighter for the videos like you were saying! ❤
Hi Have you thought about knocking the wall out (or part of it) under the stairs to add to kitchen space. Great place to fit in a fridge or freeze and it wouldn’t stick out as much. Could also fit shelving in as well.Best wishes Yvonne from Australia
The yard is absolutely beautiful. I really appreciate the architectural items such as the arbor and gate. The willow fence and the tall privet hedge. I especially like the wood fence that has open squares. The green vinyl fence I have but it is a temporary solution. I planted 36 willow trees and used the fence to protect from rabbits. The fence starts sagging no matter how many zip ties I used.
"As I was going to St. Ives..." How fun to hear you reference the actual place! The wonders of Cornwall are often told. It's marvelous to actually see it (that huge beach) & experience the lives of people who actually live there. You are greatly to be admired for tackling so many projects, house & yard, or garden as you say. Greetings from SW Idaho, USA😃
I always watch your videos to cheer me up when I'm feeling a bit homesick - this one delivered beautifully!! Love love love how your new home is coming together
Brighter white on walls, lighter green on the kitchen cabinets, darker green on island & Welsh cabinet. I would paint the cupboards on either side of the south facing window the same color (bright white) as the walls.
An idea to make the kitchen look brighter is to get a large LED panel and recess it in to the ceiling so it look like a faux skylight. Get one which has a very white light to simulate daylight. It would make a world of difference to the space.
I love that darker green for the dresser, and with the bright white walls I think it’ll look especially lovely. Then the middle green for the kitchen. It’s going to look gorgeous whatever combo you go for!
The lighter color for the kitchen cabinets imo looks best. The lightest color for the walls also is my choice. Your beach that you visited looks beautiful.
My dad lives in Carbis bay where you were circling your finger. I love the beaches round there. Thank you for the shots of home I’ve so missed in the last year
cabinets I like the top paint swatch. walls I like the middle paint swatch. and I think the paint swatch that darker green (you considered for the living room) would be cool for the island!
Oh wow, really enjoyed the talk through the kitchen. It already looks lovely and will look amazing after renovations. The colour will matter not at all the whole room will look stunning. Looking forward to watching it take shape.
If you're open to introducing something a little dark into the space, I think painting the freestanding cabinet/hutch a deeper sage or forest green color could be really beautiful. Preserving the wood top in a light ashy wood color with the dark green and brass handles would be really lovely. Something like F&B Duck Green? I love your plans so far. Good luck with renovation!
Thank you for showing Cornwall. My family as well as my husband’s family came to the U. S. from Cornwall. I finally was able to see a bit of it in 2018 and had intended to go back in 2020. Hopefully I will return soon. Your kitchen will be beautiful whatever you choose in the colors selected. Looking forward to seeing paint on the walls.
I think asparagus takes like three years to get established before you can pick them? I'm not sure I've not grown them, but that's what I've heard, but it's good to get them in soon if you want them! Just make sure ya like where you place em
I feel like creamy white will look amazing on the walls! It will tie all the colors and textures nicely, all the woods, stone, greenish colors, they’re all kind of natural and natural colors look richer on the creamy background. I feel like greyish or stark white will look very off in such surroundings and will make everything stand out rather than tie everything together. Maybe you can get a bit brighter creamy color, so it will be in between of those 2 shades that you like the most.
I don’t know if you’ll see this but I just want to say that I’ve always loved your videos but the last few are such a treat for my heart and soul! Soo calming, relaxing and these cottage vibes are just it! Btw the longer the better haha so don’t worry! 💕
Brighter white on the walls and the darker green as I think it’ll look warmer and if you eventually strip back your beams it’ll be a lovely contrast. It looks beautiful where you live. x
Go for the bright white. Then go with the darker green closer to what the cabinets already are. It will add a fresh crisp look and the cabinets will really pop!
Hi Madeleine, great vlog, love seeing your cottage and what ideas you have. Really good that you are giving local businesses a mention, I live in Cornwall so always looking for new places to visit/eat and shop! Country grey Annie Sloane would be a nice colour for the dresser and would go with the greens! Thank you for an inspiring vlog. 🦋
Oh I love the darker of the two greens you put on the cabinet! I think the grayer tones would be really lovely, especially if you go with the grayer of the white choices (which would all be lovely with the slate floors and brick around the aga & furnace)!
I would go with the dark paint on the back wall of the cabinet, and paint the outside pieces the same color as the kitchen. The bright white will be a goof choice I think, I lean toward the lighter color for the cabinets. But whatever you choose, I'm exited to see the transformation!
Omg sand your ceiling beams and have them a nice lights oak that would look lush 😍 Paint the Welsh dress either a deeper green ( but that will make the room darker) or go with an off white/grey to break it up and definitely new handles 👌🏻 XXX And I give my vote on a wine rack 🙌🏼...🤣 Xx
So glad you're leaving areas of your lawn uncut. The insects/birds will love you for it. You'll even see bats at dusk. Check out Huw Edward's UA-cam channel. I heard that from small samples it’s always better to take the lighter one because on the whole surface it will appear darker in the end ☀️ like the lightest green of the three best 🙂
Yes I love seeing more of Cornwall!! My ancestors are there on both my mother and dad's side from the 1850's going back hundreds of years so even though I've never been there I always feel a connection to Cornwall :)
Couple of things, wine storage shouldn’t be near a heat source (fireplace and heat from freezer motor) & freezer shouldn’t be near a fireplace. Perhaps cupboard near fridge could be a corner cupboard (triangular shape). Grab some of that seaweed from the beach, rinse the salt off and add it to your compost- great minerals. With your brassicas (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts) net them with insect netting to prevent cabbage moth laying their eggs and their caterpillars eating them. Use thin stakes/bamboo and bend irrigation piping over the bed (at least a metre high)and hang net over❤️✨
I think the bright white is the best, maybe depending on schedule you can choose the cabinet paint after you paint the walls? I prefer the more green one on first look. Also LOVE the dark colour and I put one vote into painting the dresser and the island the darker colour
You might put the fridge in the spot where you have the microwave now. It is a bit further, but it might be less cramped next to the island. I loooove the colour of the dresser. I'd pick that colour for the whole kitchen. :)
I vote for the upper green and the middle white 😍🍈 Also good luck to you getting all of that big Bamboo out. The bamboo at my parents house had undergrown nearly the entire yard so they had to open it all up to get rid of it completely (before that it kept on regrowing in different parts of the garden even though they thought it was gone) the soil there never truly recovered sooo I’d think well about taking out the bamboo. So excited to see this whole process I am in love with your house! 💛🧡
I vote for the lighter green and the whitest white! I had very similar colours in my old kitchen but the other way around and i really miss the green walls, it's a beautiful colour and fits so perfectly in a kitchen. i'd also paint the shelves the same as the wall and the dresser the same green :) it's going to look so lovely once it's all finished!
The lighter white for the walls , dark green for cubes , and the island n side board the darkest green. Would sand floors n keep lighter to . Sand beams n leave them. Love ❤️ the flog
I say white 02 on the wall (the lightest one) and I agree the green on the right Also I think the darkest green would look lush on that Welsh dresser....stunning 😍 xx
Darkest green for the island. Pick same / similar color as part of your tile pattern. Paint just back of cupboard shelf area with the darker green maybe? You need some contrast even if it’s slight or the room could look flat. Microwave area excellent. Continue counter for toaster and other appliances, frees up your sink counter a bit. Keep going with counter on other side of the window maybe? Big cupboards above on both sides, open shelves above microwave AND wine storage. 💙
I love the bottom swatch! Honestly I adore the color that the cabinet already is. It’s exactly what I would pick for a cottage look. I love that warm sage comfy look. The top swatch appears blue-green ( at least online anyhow lol ). Whatever you choose it will be amazing no doubt.
I think the brighter white for the walls, the green 02 on the kitchen cabinets and the darker green on island and welsh cabinet are really good options. (but if was me i'll problably paint everything white and the island/welsh cabinet with a blush pink tone 🤣)
I don’t know if you ordered already, but I prefer COAT paint a lot more. It’s so much easier to paint, it covers better etc. - and yes I tried both brands. Especially on our kitchen cupboards I loved coat and was so annoyed by the lick coverage. Just thought I’d share this tip in case you can still order some more samples!
What a fun video! Such exciting changes! Your hair looks lovely. A video of your hair routine would be neat. Taking off the upper shelf part of the cupboard by the table and moving it to the left of the sink would pair well with the open shelving you already have to the right of the sink. And the cupboards by your table that you'll paint would look nice in a slate blue color (would work well with the greens).
I like the lighter green color for the cabinets and darker green one for the island. It would look so lovely with the lighter counter tops. Can’t wait to see what you choose😀
Lovely video Madeleine! Your kitchen plans sound amazing! Thank you for the tips on hayle etc. I'm actually trying to get to cornwall in mid september for 3 weeks by train. Can you recommend any places as a base? I thought of having 2 or 3 bases
I love that video from the very beginning to the end,it is so lovely❤Your glasses are cute,by the way,i love that blue dress too.Alex and you are so lovely together,i wish you all the best for your future 🥰❤ I love the way Roxie sits on the grass, as if she wants to say:are you talking about me?🙃I am the cutest girl ever...and i don't chew anything😁🐶😘 For the paint,i'd prefer warm colours,i wouldn't use grey or white.

The brighter white will look stunning with the darker green you like! Maybe do the island the darker green or 2-3 shades darker than your cupboards?
Yeah this might be what we go for!
Brighter white a good choice and and out of the 2 greens, the darker one for a bit of contrast with the white😊
I agree!

Yes definitely want to do this down the line!

Definitely a darkersage green for that gorgeous dresser, love the sound of your ideas!
Careful putting a wine rack above the freezer, the heat from appliances running can ruin your wine...I found out the hard way : (
Oooh good point did not think of that! Maybe just another cupboard!
Yes, I was about to comment on that as well. Too much heat up there. Store it lower to the ground if possible and not near a window or appliances
@@MadeleineOlivia I was concerned about having a freezer between the stove and the fireplace, won't that make it have to work much harder to maintain temperature?

agree with you on the brighter white and darker green xx it might also be worth checking how they match with the countertops

the dresser should be a different colour, it will look nice and refreshing, maybe a light green (with a yellowish and neutral warmish undertone)
The lighter white for the walls , dark green for cubes , and the island n side board the darkest green. Would sand floors n keep lighter to . Sand beams n leave them. Love ❤️ the flog
That Cornwall beach tour totally gave me holiday vibes. I wanna go overseas so bad!!
I like the lightest cream and the darker green.
I think a warm creme/beige for the cabinets like really pale biscuits could look great
Pale biscuit would be a lovely name for a paint colour!! 😆
I say white 02 on the wall (the lightest one)
and I agree the green on the right
