When a man becomes successful he is more admired. When a woman becomes more successful she is no longer "relatable". (There are scientific studies about this phenomenon.) It is just misogyny!!!! It is time for men and women to reflect that! I am very happy for you. I hope you and your channel keep evolving and growing.👍
I wouldn’t worry too much about the recent hate you’re getting, because there’s always going to be people wanting to hate on others. I’m still a student who doesn’t even have plans on getting a home in the near future and I enjoy your blogs so much because they’re peaceful and show what renovating and achieving your dream home it’s like: it takes time, patience and love.
i definitely agree! just keep doing what youre sharing and don't worry so much aobut what those who are unhappy with what youre sharing. it's their choice to be following and subscribing and i'm very thankful and happy for following and learning from your experience. you are so caring and loving and i hope that those of us who love and care so deeply for you and your fam are giving you enough support to feel as though the ones that are leaving terrible comments are only for their own benefit to hurt someone and not actually directed at you my dear. always, much love, Rory
I agree, don't worry about hate. You are doing a wonderful job with all your videos and i would love to move to england into a lovely little cottage,i enjoy watching your videos, you two are a lovely couple and so funny, you cheer up my days alot😘🥰🌻 It is always enjoyable watching you and Alex doing something in your garden and house. There is always something to be done. My rasberries in my garden disapeared🤷♀️somehow. You are doing a great job❤
UA-cam is a pretty narcissistic place and you, my dear, are the loveliest, most humble and socially aware person on this platform. You are a breath of fresh air. Don't let the trolls get you down.
I’m an architectural historian working on making old buildings more energy efficient. Environmentally, it’ll be worth getting double glazed timber windows (definitely get multiple quotes for this because there’s a whole spectrum of good quality timber windows and how much that costs; atm the cost of timber is extremely high so it might be a bit more affordable to do this in a few years, or to do it in phases, ie replace the most damaged windows now and sort the others later on). Or think of putting in secondary glazing. Secondary glazing can look very good, but it has to be done properly so you don’t end up causing condensation in between the windows and damage the timber. I know PVC will be more affordable but I think you’ll regret it; it really takes away character so if you can afford to save and restore/get new timber windows, it’ll be worth it. Also, check with your local planning authority - I can’t remember if you said the house is listed but if it is you’ll need planning permission for any changes to the windows. In the meantime, get some thick lined curtains to help with warmth (you can get lots on ebay so you don’t have to buy new ones). On a different note as a passionate gardener, I recommend looking at Charles Dowding’s UA-cam videos and books for no-dig veg gardening and how to make compost, he’s the best. One thing I can tell you already is NOT to line your compost bin with plastic sheets: your compost needs to be able to breath and get wet in order to break down, so you don’t want any plastic on any sides of your big compost bins. Also, your roses won’t need feeding except once a year actual rose feed in spring. But great progress with the garden and house, looking forward to seeing it all progress!
As another Charles Dowding fan, I hope Maddie sees your comment! Quite a few of us have recommended she check Charles' channel out. Truly the father of no dig gardening.
Gosh, this is almost exactly what I was going to say re windows, curtains, roses etc. So glad I read it before writing. I would add that I just noticed a suggestion, given by David Austin Roses, that you give an extra feed to roses now of special rose food (as opposed to general fertiliser). With respect to the windows, do it once do it right, even if it means doing a few at a time. Thermal lining on windows looks lovely quite apart from the thermal benefit
Oh I didn't know people thought that you weren't relatable anymore. I couldn't agree less! I think you radiate gratitude, and your vlogs always make me happy.
So sorry to hear that people have left nasty comments, what a waste of their energy! Just to counteract the negativity, I have found your videos so helpful this year! I suffer from anxiety quite frequently, and I find your channel's content really relaxing and therapeutic, so I just want to say a big thank you! 💕 P.S. this is off topic, but try looking into neem oil for repelling the aphids. It's a natural pesticide that doesn't repel pollinators or damage the plants
The most wonderful thing about being human is the opportunity to grow and change. As a 57 year old woman who’s watched you for several years, I appreciate and get excited that you have grown and reaped the benefits of that growth. I’ve learned from your efforts at being sustainable and mindful of your consumption. I love your home and food videos. I appreciate your work. Thank you
It's interesting to hear that some people coming to watch a youtuber's journey and struggle, but want for that person to continue to struggle and never achieve anything they have set out to do... Like, what? I don't want to add to the negativity so I'm just going to say, it doesn't hurt to watch aspirational content, even if it feels out of reach at the moment. It also doesn't hurt to have ambition, or even lack of ambition but a simple appreciation for other people and their achievements.
Please don't get upset, Olivia! You and Alex are so obviously truely lovely people . You both work so hard and it's natural to be proud of what you've achieved and to want to share your happiness.
I am saving most of this video for later but I am just loving these longer house and garden vlogs. It's a treat to watch every time, and it's great getting to see your home transform slowly over time! Also not to be superficial, but I've been watching you a long time now (since the Brighton days) and you just seem to be getting more and more stunningly beautiful as time goes on. Those shots in the kitchen early on, you are just radiant.
Something that might be fun to do in that space along the fence could be to look into local native flowering plants, which will draw native pollinators to your yard and support local fauna. They will also require no maintenance other than pruning because they'll be native to the area.
Personally I love seeing how well you’re doing. Anyone who can see how many followers and subscribers you have must know you’re career is going well. It’s so refreshing to see a UA-camr spending their cash on sustainable companies and local crafts people
So sorry you felt the need to explain your successes, it made me feel a little emotional. If people don’t feel happy for you it is a reflection on them not you. Good luck to you and your sweet little family! X
You've just hit the nail on the head. You can't be relatable to everyone but you shouldn't have to change yourself just to appease those with insecurities or jealousy.
Just wanted to say about the hate comments that for me your videos are amazing. You have a beautiful way of seeing life and I love being able to get a glimpse of it from your videos. You sharing about your renovation plans, deco and so on is so nice and relaxing (Also, looking forward to seeing the garage 😊). Love from Berlin!
Saying that Madeleine shouldn't be spending money on something because someone else can't afford it, is like saying to a student that he shouldn't be striving for an A because someone else is getting D's. You earned your money and you are free to spend it anyway you please. I'm 36 and I've been renting my whole life without ever wanting to have my own place, and only a couple of years ago (because my boyfriend insisted) we started looking to buy/build a house and that's how I discovered this channel. Love your DIYs and would love you to share the prices of stuff even though I live in a different country and earn a totally different salary. I've never been envious of people earning more, because I also acknowledge that they are either smarter than me or work harder than me, and I'm just too lazy to try and earn more :D
I was not privileged. I was the oldest of eight. We were poor but happy. I feel privileged based on the love and safety I received from my family. What I have attained in life came from my hard work. Just as you have done. Hard work and a vision. We are not all blessed to do what you do. Sooo we watch gifted people like you to learn, create and if nothing else at least dream❤ You are a sweetheart ❤🌻
I am a trauma therapist in the US and I use these videos to help unwind at the end of the day. I watch these videos to relax on my weekends. These videos help me also dream for my own life and my own future. I am proud of you, and all you have achieved, and how you share your life with all of us. Please continue to make these videos, and if you ever need support or someone to talk to, I am a DM away to send postcards to. I have followed you from the very beginning, and I am deeply proud of who you are and it has been a joy to watch you bloom into your current self. -Mary
I think these people forget that you have worked so hard to get where you are and that’s obvious. You are privileged because of your hard work and determination not because it fell in your lap. Be proud Maddie. There is nothing smug about you. You are so genuine and a lovely person. 💜
Restoration all the way. We had stained glass windows- small ones that opened - we had them repaired and then set between 2 panes of glass. Looked really good. We're no longer living there and I miss them.
Just found your channel and going back through all these home renovation vids. Obsessed! Currently looking for our forever home in Ireland & we are both very drawn to old houses 😍💚
@@MadeleineOlivia NO. WAY! Gahhh why am I smiling so much haha!? (You know when you find a new creator and you binge watch them for hours? That's me with your channel this morning lol!) ohhh how happy this makes me! xxx
Awwww this makes me so happy! I totally know that feeling haha. Hope you enjoy watching more of my videos! Maybe one day we will cross paths in person! ❤️
I was saddened by the news that you got negative comments. When people say, you’ve changed, well new to them, you’re suppose too! We mature, we grow, and work towards our dreams and values. Sending you good vibes! Be you, and let them be who they are with no comment! 💕
Myka meyer on youtube speaks about people saying you have changed in some way to insult. She says to say something like, " yes I've been working really hard to improve in that area. Thanks for noticing" I love the idea of responding like that.
You only come across as Happy, Hard working, and joyous. Any other perception is down to individuals and their own insecurities. I wouldn’t even address this as it highlights hate. Thank you for the escapism that you provide
Lots of lovely herbal teas, yum yum in my teas. Im thinking, chamomile, marigold, lemon balm (the most lovely lemony scent and mood lifting too!) Maybe a book on herbal remedies would be helpful? I'm studying it at the moment and I'm sure you would enjoy :)xx
Why do people feel the need to write hate on peoples videos?? If they don’t like the content or ‘can’t relate’ then bugger off and don’t watch it no one is forcing them! Please don’t apologise for what you have, you have a beautiful home through working hard keep making these videos and doing and saying what you want xx
You are a wonderful human and I wish you even more success and more accomplishments because you deserve it and you worked hard for it. As a normal human we always want to grow and make our lives more comfortable by buying a bigger house or a bigger car, bed or whatever we want!I can’t stand people judging and not appreciating other people’s success. Come on people- let’s be more kind and more supportive!! believe me it feels hundred million times better when you do. Much love to you 🥰 love the renovations videos, merci! 🤩
Wild flowers would look nice in your flower bed. Kirsty Allsop suggests hardwood double glazed windows for older properties and you can get them with the sash like the old ones 😉
I don't understand why people feel the need to be mean to others especially online, you should be proud of how far you've come and not let other people make you feel like you need to explain. Keep doing what you do, there are always going to be haters. Love you!
Dear Maddie, I hardly ever write UA-cam comments but like all the other lovely people here in the comment section I just wanted to say that to me you don‘t come off as boasting at all. I‘ve been following your channel since the Bristol days and am so happy to see how far you and Alex have come since then! You get to be proud of your achievements and share the progress you‘re making. I enjoy watching your videos a great deal and feel like you‘re one of the most humble, real and kind people on this platform. Your videos always inspire me and even helped me to get through lockdown. Keep on going and don‘t let the haters get you down! Lots of love from Germany ♥️
Maddie, I never comment but I've been watching your vlogs since you were living in your parents' vacation rental. I just wanted to say that I love you and Alex and you are one of the few youtubers I still follow after so many years. And that's because I always thought you two are very real and very honest with your audience. No false pretense and no trying to come across as something you're not. Please don't worry about negative comments too much, although I know that's easier said than done. I am very happy you guys were able to buy this house. It's a dream and I am enjoying it vicariously through you. Stay healthy and have a great summer! ❤️ PS: Alex is great, I just love him! He's one of the good guys.
The roses need structure to upright them at house wall so maybe bamboo or trellis, you just tie them on for support, the lavender helps them and deters mice from entering the house
you have never come across smug or unappreciative! Anyone who believes that needs to examine their own ability to celebrate others success, and why it bothers them. Let's as a world lift each other up. We are grateful that you are sharing the house renovation, I love it! Please do not apologize for being authentic, and ignore the hate moving forward, it doesn't deserve your energy. There a pause and skip button folks, if you don't like someone or something on UA-cam, it's one tap.... rather then typing out a line of hate, move on, and spread love, not hate. Peace to you from Holland Michigan, Erin
I mean, not everything can be a DIY project. Sometimes, especially in a historical home, you need a professional. I have always found you inspiring and one of the most down to earth people on this platform.
For the windows, I would definitely go for double-glazed! From what I understand laminate glass has no extra insulation benefit compared to single-pane. It only provides noise reduction and safety in terms of it being less likely to break. Having lived in a house with single-pane windows over the winter, I would not recommend it. I was always freezing and you have to be super careful of the condensation, which leads to mould. With double-glazed, you would also need to heat less to keep the house warm in the winter because the heat will not escape through the windows as much. Which is not only good for the environment but you also end up saving money on electricity. Also just want to say that I have really been loving these renovation videos! I always get so excited to see a new one.
Watched this yesterday but thought I’d come back and comment because I was so shocked to hear you’re getting any hate from your content. You’re at such an exciting time in your life, you have a beautiful home and you’ve both worked so hard for it. Hearing you plan for the future and seeing your hard work only makes me excited for the possibilities in my own future so I’m astonished anyone thinks you’re no longer ‘relatable’. It’s actually really exciting to see people working on a period property and doing things ‘right’ with skilled craftsmen and really caring for the history of a building. Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t let negative people get in the way of your own happiness which you’ve worked so hard for
Can't believe some people say you're smug?!?! You're so sweet ,and for example I haven't forgotten your reply to my comment about my food struggles, which made me feel so much better and alleviated the guilt. Your vlogs just make me so happy, a cup of tea and your video and I'm just sooooo relaxed. Also I 100% agree about your comment on women bringing down other women. We should have each other's back! I used to be like that but now (yeah feminism!) seeing other women doing their own things and being happy just warms my heart.
I can’t imagine why anyone would show you hate. Please don’t stop sharing your whole journey with us. I have a question… do you plan on canning your garden harvest?
Oh my goodness, you are not smug AT ALL. I’ve been watching your vids for awhile and you just seem really happy and confident right now, which is so great! Thanks for always being YOU and sharing what you love. From a fellow new homeowner, I relate.
I absolutely love your content! I hit like before even watching your videos. Post what makes you happy and what you like. The right crowd will follow. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. 💜
I'm sorry you're receiving hate, you're one of the most authentic people on UA-cam. I love your videos and what you share of your life. I'm so excited to see your renovation! Please don't change to suit the haters, just be yourself. 😊💜
I think you need to practical over romantic with regards to the windows. Single glazed and even laminated glass windows make condensation which leads to black mould which is so not healthy! Love the ideas you have for the whole space, loving it so far xx
I will never understand people's need to bring others down. If you're not enjoying watching the videos anymore, you can just leave? Love watching your videos Maddie, still renting but aspire to have a lovely house to renovate one day so love watching and learning, and am also here for all the Roxie content 🥰
I love seeing all your updates! Yes you're privileged but you know that and you're project such a kind and happy demeanor, I fully believe you're just so excited to be where you are and I love seeing that. I definitely don't have a house like yours, but I have a house and not everyone can afford that privilege that I have. It's all layers. Sending hugs!
Yeah I saw that "1 glass a day" comment. Such an odd tone and way of putting it! You're being healthy, attuning to what's good for you - and the vast majority of people don't have anything to say about one evening relaxing with some red wine, like really
There are always going to be people who try to bring you down, try not to let them get to you. Keep being you, keep enjoying your lovely home that you have both worked hard for, don’t let them damp your joy down. I love seeing the progress you make and there is nothing wrong with being happy about it! 💗
I'm a homesteading mama of three that lives in rural mountains of West Virginia. Our lives could not more different in some ways but you are so genuine and relatable! We believe in a lot of the same causes. I'm really enjoying watching you renovate and accomplish your goals. And slightly living vicariously through it since with children, we would barely be able to get half of what you can accomplish in a day finished! :) Don't listen to the haters!
The fact that you spend your money on the beginning of the rest of your life I am so happy too watch you do what we did so long ago I hope you enjoy your journey as we have ignore the haters that no love in there lives
Restore the windows, you can have wooden frames with double glazed window panes. These thick stones walled cottages do need to breath though. We live in one and found it’s lovely and cool in the summer and once you have warmed the place through it retains the heat. You cottage and garden is adorable. An old style greenhouse would go well with the cottage. Another great vlog thank you!🦋
I agree. We had double glazed timber sashes in our old house and they were still very cold and draughty. We currently have single glazed sashes, and we installed magnetic secondary glazing which was very effective at keeping the house warm in winter (it looks nicer than fixed secondary glazing, and can be easily removed in summer). Definitely don't go with uvpc. I don't think that will ever look good.
Don't listen to those hate comments, they are most likely people who had a bad day and taking it out on you, or just feeling very depressed and let their jealousy get the best of them. I'm one of those that can't relate to your life at all anymore, my life fell apart this year literally going from paying deposit for my dream house in England and planning everything in details to having to move back to Sweden and start from scratch again. I'm also not vegan. On the days that are extra tough for me right now I decide to not watch the kind of content that could make me feel sad and save it for another day instead of spouting hate, more people should learn to control themselves.
I think it’s so boring that people decide to hate on people as soon as they become successful 😴 have been watching your channel for years and you and Alex deserve everything you have worked so hard for. Your house is beautiful
Hi Maddie. I've been watching your videos for a loooong time and I have always loved your content. You are always humble and honest and very real, not like many other youtubers. You are so brave for sharing your life with us. Thank you :D
Hello from USA. Just started following you you. Love what you are doing. Your garden is beautiful. You asked about what to put along the back fence. A beautiful row of Hydrangeas would look lovely.
I can't believe people are saying things. U both are very humble. I don't believe u are materialistic, ur getting older and want to settle down and think of the future. Don't listen to the negative people. I love u both and I am proud of u both.
Wisteria Vine is great for weaving into bracelets :) Soak it in water to make it more malleable then use it like any other string. Good for weaving plant pot hangers too. Perhaps a future DIY when you have a lull in home Reno :)
I’m American. I drink once or twice a week and don’t stick to the “American recommendation”. Come on people, watch these great videos, enjoy them and stop trying to critique people. I mean, really… Madeline, you said it perfectly (though I really don’t think you need to explain). For those people who cannot watch or share in someone else’s happiness, hard work or success, then they should stop viewing UA-cam videos and watch something else that they can relate to that’s not so pleasant, like the evening news.
You do NOT come across as smug! You are inspirational, have followed your dream and are sharing your positive outlook and us all. You will get people who are jealous and will make comments like that. just keep doing what you are doing it is great!
On the contrary I find you more relatable now than even a few years ago! Plus the content you’re putting out at the moment is so so high quality. I would take a guess and say these commenters are jealous …
Most definitely so if they’re saying you’re boastful when you’re the opposite, they’re projecting because they want what you have you they’re mad about it.
Honestly people are so sensitive! You're a lovely person please don't let jealous people bring you down or put a dampener on doing the things that make you happy! Also that dress looked lovely on you and you're hair looks nice up 😊
As I write this comment , you should feel so good about yourselves you and Alex have worked so hard for everything you have , and how amazing you have a new beautiful home a new marriage , and I am old enough to be your mother and I just love seeing your home come together!, I started looking for vegetarian recipes and you popped up and I have been watching all your videos. I love you sharing your daily life and you cooking ! Your amazing !!, your not boasting your happy and proud. Just love you and Alex and your fur babies ❤❤❤❤
Ignore the hate…… I love your channel…. I’ve followed you on your & Alex’s journey since your Brighton days and have loved every vlog. Your recipes have become family favourites. You are a beautiful, kind hearted authentic person which is very refreshing…. You deserve everything you’ve achieved and to be happy X
You should be proud of yourself Madeleine, you've done so well for yourself. Yes, perhaps you had an easier start than others in life and a lot of help, but at the end of the day you and Alex are putting the work in and making this project flourish. I've always really liked how open you are in your videos about your struggles and your flaws, your relapses in and out of veganism, always saying that you're not perfect but you're trying at your own scale and to the best of your abilities. That's not smug, that's leaving room for honesty and vulnerability. I love what this channel has become, I usually watch these vlogs when I'm doing yoga (actually typing this from the comfort of my ocean-blue yoga mat) because they are so relaxing, and your house renovation just makes me travel to a peaceful place so by all means, please continue exactly the same way!
Don’t worry about what a few self-righteous and misguided people say! You’re living your life, and we’re just all grateful to have a window into it! Your content is amazing and inspiring and, above all, REAL. Keep it up!
I have an old house, well for America, built in 1718. I wanted to keep our old windows but they were SO expensive to repair, we finally went with having 'modern' windows made that 'look' old. Also the windows without pulleys, we had as well, and these were, I believe, just expected to be held up with things, such as a block of wood or something, that is what we used to do :) We also USED to buy these half screens (again an American thing we love screens in windows) and these held UP the windows in Summer. I was nervous about the new windows but now really love them. They are SO easy to clean and move up and down and we also have built in screens that are easy to slide up and down. Oh that is called a Fruit Cage and it's a lovely one. I made a smaller one and I grow my apples (kept short) in there as well. We have deer and rabbit that eat everything where I live (coastal New England Cape Cod) Such a lovely spot you have.
I found your channel recently, and am so grateful I did! Your content and your personality are so warm and SOOOO relatable!! You share ups and downs and in-betweens. You seem incredibly conscious, and I LOVE your content. Based on the other comments, everyone else does too!! We'll drown out the trolls, no prob :)
You are absolutely not boastful, unkind or unrelatable…you are so gracious, kind, considerate, and aware of the environment. i adore your relationship because you both are so goofy and adorable together. You have fun with your life but you strive for your betterment and its lovely watching. People can be unkind, judging, envious and jealous-that is their problem and not yours. Keep doing what you are . It is a reflection of themselves and not you. I love seeing your renovations, life updates and your perspective on life. You have shown me and taught me so many things.I have been watching you for a while now and actually you seem so happy and I am rooting for you and your success-from one woman to another. It’s awesome.😄 You are a bright light of hope✨ and happiness ✨during times when so many things are filled with darkness.
You don't ever need to explain yourself. Haters will hate no mater what. I love watching your reno videos. And you are certainly not smug! You have what you have through hard work and so you should be aloud to enjoy it without question. Love you guys
I would just ignore the hate. I love your videos. You inspire me to do so much better in my personal, work and home life. I have made so many changes in my life just because of who you are and the advice you give. Let the haters hate and just be yourself. Please to not stop the reno videos it is fun to watch.
Please, please don't take any notice of those few idiots. I know it's hurtful but you have worked for what you have. I love your content and always look forward to the next one. You are relateable, more so than other channels. I'm renovating a Victorian 1860s cottage, I'm doing what I can such as prepping woodwork and painting, mainly to keep costs down but because it's really satisfying. 😘👍 Roxy is a real sweetheart, she may be eating grass to help her digestion.
Hi Madeleine I love your house and that you want to keep it true to it's charm. Don't pay attention to those haters they're probably just jealous. Continue to keep true to who you are and keep putting up videos to us people who care and and enjoy you and wish you nothing but good sentiments.
Dear Olivia, please, please, please, always do only the things that you love. Only the things that makes you happy. I am also one of the many followers since the Brighton days, and I feel you like one of a dearest friend of mine, even if we never talk, or saw, or even if we will never do thise things in this life. Never forget that you are loved, from all over the word!
You and Alex have worked hard for what you have achieved, don’t ever take any notice of the hate. It’s easy for those jealous keyboard warriors to sit at home and fire off nasty comments online. I’ve always admired your work ethic and I really enjoy all of your videos, there will always be people who have something negative to say. No one can judge anyone unless they’ve walked a mile in their shoes and Maddie my Nan has a saying which always stuck with me. If they don’t buy your knickers they’re not worth your thought ❤️
I don't understand hate comments, my momma always taught me if you don't have anything nice to say - don't say anything at all! I definitely agree with sharing the budget, etc. You're making videos about home reno - that's part of it!!! If someone thinks you're bragging.... that's a them problem. You've worked really hard to get where you are, or do books and all the content you work so hard on just appear from thin air? You should get to enjoy your hard work and not have to apologize because you got to where you are. (Although honestly I watch more for Rozzy content than home reno - I miss clips from your walks! I think Cornwall is just so magical, I got to visit it for a VERY short time and I love seeing all around, perhaps to plan another trip!)
I’m so happy for you and Alex. You seem so much more at peace in your new home. Whatever you’re doing keep it up! Negativity is always projection. It has nothing to do with you. Keep your head up and know that you bring so much to your audience 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing! Renovating is always nice to watch, I love seeing before and after transformations. And your house and garden are so beautiful! I come here exactly for that - just to relax. My style and lifestyle are completely different, but that's what's so lovely about your content, it's a form of escapism and an insight into someone else's world.
A quick ginger hack: buy a big piece, peel with teaspoon, cut into thumb size pieces and freeze in a little plastic tub. It defrosts quickly and it's easy to throw into smoothies
I don’t even know why people hate so much. You’re doing things on your own even if you already have the money and still people think you’re being materialistic and out of reach. We have to find excitement in life or else what’s the point. And I think renovating house is on both exciting and productive area. Please don’t mind hate comments, you’re doing great 💙
Madeleine, there will always be jealous people in your life, which will be amplified due to the fact that you’re a UA-camr. It’s the most horrible and destructive of emotions, but in the end it destroys them, and not you. You handled the way that you addressed them admirably, and of course they can switch off if they don’t like the fact that you’ve worked hard for what you’ve got. Personally I get lots of enjoyment from your vlogs. I’ve renovated a Victorian cottage in England, and now live in a Georgian house in Italy. Nothing has been given to me either, so anyone that’s jealous of what I’ve achieved in life can let it eat away at them. I find that having a few genuine people in my life helps enormously, and the two faced ones can bog off! Wishing you only happiness in your life dear girl. 🥰 xx
Hi Maddie don't worry about the negativity out there we love you and your channel. We know that Alex and you have worked hard to get where you are. Sending hugs ❤
I don't think your content is unrelatable at all! Your house is beautiful and I love seeing your garden and reno projects, there's no shame in being proud of what you've achieved 😊
Totally agree with other comments that people are portraing their jealousy in hate comments. To me it seems like a different view on money and budget that is maybe a bit age related. You both work hard, make a certain amount of money, save consciously a certain amount of money so you can buy a comfortable house for yourself. Nothing wrong with that! To me this is inspirational and also what I am doing in my life. And a lot of people are doing with their life. Also the type of job is a bit unrelated to this, but just because you create content online for us all to consume, you suddenly are a target for hate... Feel for you, but also don't let them get to you. Most of us are here to support you! ❤️
Absolutely no need to explain your situation to anyone, do what your doing ,if people don’t like it they don’t need to watch ! Don’t let any negative comments get you down! You both come across as really nice grounded people. You could try some hardy geraniums in the bed below the window, or some salvias, or heleniums for late summer colour.
THIS! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I agree with your comment. It’s like your expected to stay the same and no grow as an individual.
Agree with this Claudia, however a lot of women don’t support their gender, and can be the worst critics. 😕
Exactly this!
Wrong, there many women who are highly respected for their ability to get ahead. Not all men misogynists.
I agree,don't worry about hate.
Wow thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
That’s so lovely to say xx
A really good advice!
I am so happy to hear that my vlogs make you happy ❤️❤️❤️
So sorry to hear that people have left nasty comments, what a waste of their energy!
Just to counteract the negativity, I have found your videos so helpful this year! I suffer from anxiety quite frequently, and I find your channel's content really relaxing and therapeutic, so I just want to say a big thank you! 💕
P.S. this is off topic, but try looking into neem oil for repelling the aphids. It's a natural pesticide that doesn't repel pollinators or damage the plants
fairy liquid in your water is also a good alternative for the aphids as they slip off
Just let the ladybird larvae eat them!
Save the old windows and make a greenhouse out of them. That way you still get to keep them and make something beautiful out of them.
What a lovely idea!
I so badly want to do that 😭🤩🥰❤🥺
Ooooo I like this idea!
Aww wow thank you so much this is so unbelievably kind of you! 🤩
@@MadeleineOlivia Just speaking truth!
Thank you xxxx
You've just hit the nail on the head. You can't be relatable to everyone but you shouldn't have to change yourself just to appease those with insecurities or jealousy.
Go to a nursery and buy a lot of ladybugs. They will eat all the bugs and when there gone they will fly away.
Thank you so much! This kind of support keeps me going and helps so much to drown out the hateful comments! ❤️❤️❤️
You are never smug, you are adorable, & it's so lovely of you to share your projects, the goods you purchase, & your fantastic recipes. Carry on ❣
Thank you so much ❤️
I was not privileged.
Please do share your renovation journey. Love DIY. :-)
Of course! Love sharing it all!
Just found your channel and going back through all these home renovation vids. Obsessed! Currently looking for our forever home in Ireland & we are both very drawn to old houses 😍💚
Omg hi Melanie! Have watched you for years! ❤️
You could plant chamomile for tea/skincare :) they're pretty too!
Love this idea!
Echinacea as well!
@@jofarrell4488 I'm studying too! I'm using Rosemary Gladstars' The Science and Art of Herbalism course
@@sarahclutter7649 oh I love her so much, I've been studying with Heartwood ❤️x
Why do people feel the need to write hate on peoples videos?? If they don’t like the content or ‘can’t relate’ then bugger off and don’t watch it no one is forcing them! Please don’t apologise for what you have, you have a beautiful home through working hard keep making these videos and doing and saying what you want xx
I dont think you are smug at all .. I find you so down to earth and such a warm, gentle and wholesome person ! Keep being you
DON'T let jealousy get to you!! You are a blessing!!!
Love you!
Dear Maddie,
I hardly ever write UA-cam comments but like all the other lovely people here in the comment section I just wanted to say that to me you don‘t come off as boasting at all.
PS: Alex is great, I just love him!
“They’ve seen the garage?” I love how you both include us as real people, not just random people behind screens ❤️
You are doing nothing wrong. Your content is honest and transparent. Well done for what you have achieved so far
Oh my goodness, you are not smug AT ALL. I’ve been watching your vids for awhile and you just seem really happy and confident right now, which is so great! Thanks for always being YOU and sharing what you love. From a fellow new homeowner, I relate.
Roxie is SO cute!!! Also, clean grass is actually good for dogs. It helps their stomachs and intestines. I think cats are the same.
Please do not stop being YOU, please! Your humble heart is refreshing! ✌🏽
I absolutely love your content! I hit like before even watching your videos. Post what makes you happy and what you like. The right crowd will follow. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. 💜
Thank you so much this means so much to me!
Love the ideas you have for the whole space, loving it so far xx
you'll never please them all, that's for sure. Love your content and I think you should be very proud of what you've both built together. Bravo!!
You drink as much red wine as you like, nobody business.
I agree Yvonne, I know I do!!! x
Exactly haha it’s hardly extreme! I love a good glass of wine! 🍷
Don't listen to the haters!
I love this idea as hydrangeas are so stunning!
Hydrangas...yes, yes, yes🤗
I can't believe people are saying things. U both are very humble. I don't believe u are materialistic, ur getting older and want to settle down and think of the future. Don't listen to the negative people. I love u both and I am proud of u both.
I got so happy when she said "when we have kids" I can't wait for that video to come🥰
Wisteria Vine is great for weaving into bracelets :) Soak it in water to make it more malleable then use it like any other string. Good for weaving plant pot hangers too. Perhaps a future DIY when you have a lull in home Reno :)
I’m American. I drink once or twice a week and don’t stick to the “American recommendation”. Come on people, watch these great videos, enjoy them and stop trying to critique people. I mean, really…
Madeline, you said it perfectly (though I really don’t think you need to explain). For those people who cannot watch or share in someone else’s happiness, hard work or success, then they should stop viewing UA-cam videos and watch something else that they can relate to that’s not so pleasant, like the evening news.
💕People Living around the Middelterainial see , lives longer and Healthier....and they drink Wine all the time🤗
You do NOT come across as smug!
Thank you so so much xxx
I clean bugs off my plants by washing them with watered down dish soap instead of pruning... it works really well 🤗
You don't ever need to explain yourself.
So happy to see your progress through the years 🥰 and that's such a beautiful period home with the garden ❤️ giving me serious inspo!

Loving these longer uploads!! Keep it going!!
Thanks so much! Loving making them for you all!
I think your one of the most down to earth UA-camrs I've come across. I love casual vlogs and home / garden content. Just be you. Ignore the haters.
I'm thoroughly enjoying your home transformation!!!!! Don't worry about the haters! Your working hard and deserve the rewards!!!!!
I’m a 19year old uni student and I LOVE your channel because it inspires me to work hard and progress towards my goals just like you have!
Can't get enough of the RoxCon! (Roxie Content)😂❤ really enjoying the gardening, especially the part about roses. I need all the help I can get!
Hehe roxiecon! Love that!
