This person is extremely talented. This could be horrible in the hands of most, but she has done an outstanding job with such a small space. Completely cozy, functional, and livable. The TV completely disappears, she is a magical design witch!
For 21sq.metres, this studio apartment has all needs covered. Kudos to the young lady for making the space work for her and full of story. Her home is comfortable with touches of eclecticism.
Would love more videos like this where the designer is working within the existing space. The redesigns and remodels are cool but as a lay person, it likely isn't a route I would ever go. Awesome to see ideas and design choices (especially affordable ones like Ikea!) for someone like me who just moves into a space and try to find ways to make it nicer and more livable.
Obviously none of the incredible interior architecture that we often see on this channel but what an incredible example of how the right design philosophy can turn even the smallest of spaces into a beautiful home. These are the kind of spaces we should be filling our cities with so that young professionals can have affordable, functional places of their own while they get established in life.
Always happy to see a rented space here. With expertise (and money), you can do a lot with an empty canvas that you own, but renting is a different story (and a story that I live in as well 😉)
It looks really good - the only thing I would change is the kitchen fronts (seems too messy, and anything else then white) and maybe bathroom tiles (something lighter?). As she's renting she probably can't change it - but it still works. She can live there full time and even invite guests. For 20m² that's really great.
@jenl2530 not necessarily. I work in nyc, lived in nyc myself and have friends that live in studios in nyc. I wouldn't call them priviledged in the least.
Wow!!! That’s amazing! One of the best studios I have ever seen. 21m2 and there is a feeling of spaciousness yet you got all you need for a person livining in apartment. Such a gem!!!
I think you did an amazing job in every way. It’s extremely well styled, it’s calming, you maximized the space and storage without compromising it. I’m sure it’s wonderful to open the front door every time you come home.
Love how she gives attention to the smallest detail. With the space constraining the number of components, the character and placement of each one becomes so conspicuous. I am struck that, yes, surprisingly!, the bed/couch aisle is really important to make the place feel good.
Brilliant use of space, colors and furniture. Everything looks tidy, cohesive and comfortable. All her needs are covered within the available space and the apartment does neither feel cluttered nor inadequate or disorganised. All various areas mingle harmoniously and the flow, vibe and style of this small space is just lovely. She has done a great job there - the wall colors and art works are perfectly chosen! Congratulations for making such a comfy and warm space!
I particularly liked how she chose to hang the art near the TV and brought some of the warmth of the floor to match without overwhelming that space. Nice departure from the maximalist gallery walls which can be a bit overhelming to the eye. I love color but always chose softer tones in my home, this space reminds me why.
For me, I’d want to have the seating area by the windows so I could see outside. It would also give a bit of distance from the air conditioner for sleeping. She’s made great decisions on furniture with a calming limited colour. Well done.
Brava. Your studio is 21 sq/m, mine is 35. You have the advantage of an even higher “stud” (ceiling height) although mine is a generous 2.5m. I have e bed similar to yours and I believe ALL beds should be designed this way for the sake of a huge, hidden storage space. The wall tone is perfect. Love the chess board idea…the entire space works wonderfully. Wishing you much happiness in your studio. Regards from Dubrovnik. Zoltán
Wonderful use of one room. Love the drapes and Roman blinds to showcase the room height. Soft airy colours. ❤ Oval coffee table so hard to find, so much better than rectangular. ❤️ closed IVAR cabinets!
Awesome source of inspiration. The choices she made in designing her house look almost "invisible", which is always the best kind of design. Great job!
I love that NTS has gone back to its roots, well, in this video anyway. For many years, NTS was my go-to channel for micro and small space solutions. But so many of the last couple years' videos showing properties that er, weren't that small.
Kudos to her. This studio is beautifully styled. Thanks for sharing it. I liked how she used inexpensive furnishings and paint to create such a chic, modern look.
I love what she’s done with her space, the paint color is a fine choice , too! She has a good eye for what she’s put into her apartment. Great neighborhood by the looks of it!
For once I can relate as I have a very similar floorplan (window: bathroom: wardrobe: entry ratio) . I like that it's real furniture and not all built-in
The most talented American I have ever seen to take a small place and transform it into a piece of art little apt! Girl hope you become huge bc you are huge in your talent and skills ❤ impressive ❤
I presently live in the smallest space I have ever lived in and I am totally overwhelmed. Most of my treasures are packed away too and just a few are out. I took live in a historical building but not allowed to use nails or molly bolts so most of the walls are a blank canvas. I love her bed. I have 2 very tiny closets. I have a foyer first one I have ever had which is strange for such a small place but I have a antique desk, an extra dining room chair and a milk can in the foyer which my parents had on their back porch when I was born. I have many collections but have to limit my display. This woman's apt is beautiful. My nephew lives in NYC in an old building and they have a kitchen that is just on one side of the room such as in this video. I have never seen videos on this site before. It's pretty cool!
i am about to move into a teenie tiny condo myself and i know i could never do this. i am worried about how i will manage clutter. i am obsessed with this channel lol i am also obsessed with the idea of a loft bed now. that could really help
You can use double-sided hanging strips to put up pictures/posters on your wall. They are quite sturdy and will carry a average-size framed picture easily.
What a beautiful space. There's clearly time, thought, and intention behind every item, and yet it doesn't feel overdone. Rather, it's very liveable ❤ I generally go for more saturated colours, but this apartment really speaks to me with it's cool, calm palette.
I love the wall colour. I actually have this colour in half of my home. You can never get tired of it, because it is soothing, but not depressing, and you can really add a lot of colour through furniture, art and accessories. Great at job!
This reminds me of the Small Cool Contest entries on Apartment Therapy back in the 2010s. I loved scrolling through the 5 photos and seeing what could be done with such a small footprint (most of those were NY renters too). Love how she has zoned the space, and the choice of wall colour is so calming 🩵
I was surprised to see that of 185 comments only 7 (yes, I have counted them) suggested a Murphy bed to free more space. Is it customary for New Yorkers or indeed Americans to have, in small apartments, full-sized beds in the same room as the kitchen? Here in London such rooms would not be called "studios" but "bedsitters". Otherwise I quite like the style, including art arrangement (normally I do not like such arrangements).
She did marvellous job with all the limitations (size, the place being a rental). And it is so nice to see a desk that allows for an actually functional setup! Not all of us can make do with a small table and a single laptop. I could definitely live in a place like this, light yet cozy. My favorite so far.
As a New Yorker, I know these spaces very well. Small, tiny, ugly kitchens. Hideous pot lights in the ceiling. It's a rental and you're not allowed to make changes. Given your circumstances, I'm blown away. If I can describe your space with one word, it would be, "calming." Quite a feat for such a small space in the middle of this urban cacophony. Your kitchen is clean, organized, charming, and inviting. The Farrow & Ball Skylight color is soft and cozy and expansive too. The greyish blue color's soft contrast from the white ceiling adds a layer of interest and depth in what would otherwise be an ordinary white box. My favorite feature is how you created a hallway between the bed and the sofa where there wasn't one. Every object is intentional and artfully arranged. Clutter is the enemy of any space and, if you have any, you have it hidden behind doors, in drawers, and under your bed. It's refreshing to see a beautiful space created with ordinary means. Nothing in this apartment is fancy or expensive. It's simply an example of thoughtful and judicious excellence. Thank you for sharing.
The color palette really helps to achieve a seamless, spacious look. The wall of Ikea storage is great, as is the slender oval coffee table. But her decision to leave a walkway between the bed and sofa is genius. Without that the place would look very cramped. Instead, it's airy!
The space doesn't feel small at all. I like that it actually looks lived in and not sterile like some. And also, versatile furniture, thrifts make the difference, add character 👍. Now I'm inspired 😂
I love what she did with the place. She optimized use of the vertical space with the curtains and wall shelving beautifully. I've found with smaller spaces it helps to let your furniture breathe and have tiny walkways when you can. I totally agree with her design philosophy!
I love it! The decor is perfect - she has great taste. I love all the vintage touches she has incorporated into the apartment, whilst still keeping the feel of a bright modern space.
I’m impressed/jealous that she can sleep with the bed closest to the windows/street noise. When I lived in my $1800 a mth NYC studio in 2005 I had my bed as far away from the street as possible
Despite being such a small space, she has done so much with it! It looks and feels calm and luxurious. The cool tones give it such a relaxing and chill vibe. The color palette works so well instead of using all white like most people do. I love the storage bed, and it's a great way to store a lot of stuff and hide it all away. The way she has curated what to display and the layout has so much personality without being overwhelming. Her home is very well balanced.
Luxury feel floor rug is perfect. And the bathroom to bed rug is clever. The narrow work desk with the bed behind to spread out work documents is genius. Window lighting on the bed and the lamp for right handed shadows. Visitors can dump their coats and hand bags on the bed, ezi pezi. Bathroom away from the kitchen 😊😊 The more I think the better it gets. Skill wins 🏆 👌 👏 😎 😊😊😊😊
A Murphy/Wall bed would give her a large space during the day - though it would reduce storage. I think she has done a lovely job but I’d miss a dining table and prefer to sit by a window rather than away from window with back to it.
I would personally dump the bed that is the elephant in the room and go Japanese, with a rolled up futon or even a quality sofa bed and loose the other sofa. Then you have some flexible space to walk across and play with - dining table on castors etc?
@thewaythingsare8158 Indeed - I would also ditch the bed, and either have a Murphy bed (thus reducing the space to very little, horizontally), or a daybed (with all the bedding stored in a blanket box). Murphy beds can be built reasonably cheaply - shop-bought ones are expensive. Also, it is never a good idea, in my opinion, to have a bed in the same room as the kitchen. Finally, I'm sure you meant "LOSE the other sofa", not "loose". The latter would give the phrase an entirely different meaning! :-) No offence!
Love these more traditional spaces with all of the soul and character still intact. The architects on this channel usually strip away these details and replace them with plywood boxes and surfaces. Brava!
They did a good job with the flow of that space. The little gap between the couch and bed creates distinct sleeping and living zones and makes the apartment feel bigger. It feels like a calm, cozy, comfortable space.
This is what we in the UK call a 'Bedsit' I had one very similar to this lady in my early 20's, with the little kitchenette, I had a double sofabed instead of a bed, however, we shared a bathroom with 2 others in their bedsits. She is fortunate to have her own bathroom and her apartment looks beautiful
I think it’s clever how she hung the art over the ikea cabinets. Instead of being cantered right over the cabinets, they angle towards the kitchen and it feels much more organic. Taking notes!
This studio looks like it came straight out of from "Friends" scenography. Beautifully furnished and spacious despite its small size, I think this is due to the choice of low furniture and subdued colors.
Amazing job! The only thing I don't like very much is the kitchen kabinets, I think it would make a big difference if you painted them another colour, even though it is a rental.
Very nicely done. I'd love some trellis or a voile curtain hanging from the ceiling (at the end of the Ivar tv unit) to slightly delineate the entrance way. My preference is to not have my bed on show (I understand that in many situations one doesn't have a choice) but my 'fix-it' mind started thinking how one could make a padded bedhead that would be on sturdy casters with locks so the bedhead could be rolled down towards the end of the bed (I would include large padded armrests constructed atop slim openable units, which at night time could house my book etc... think slimmest rollout kitchen insert). I'd envisage the whole bedhead unit allowing one to use the end of the bed as the sofa during the daytime and roll back to being a bedhead at night. Thank you for the opportunity to muse.... G Ire 😊
this is great. cool colors are not my jam but this pale blue has sold me on this cool color. especially for a bed room which is better cool. Well done ! i live small on purpose and usually paint everything bright white but this has inspired me to think out of my box
NTS, you know when a space is under 500 sq ft, you don't have to include the adjective "small" in the title. It's a given that a 235 sq ft apartment is small. In this case it actually might be "too small." That said, as a New Yorker I can appreciate that she's making great use of the limited space she has- love the paint color and the Ikea cabinet.
This is a beautiful and well designed/organized space. I absolutely love it. I am stealing the shelfing idea above the computer. I don't keep much but that is just an awesome idea for housing my diplomas.
This person is extremely talented. This could be horrible in the hands of most, but she has done an outstanding job with such a small space. Completely cozy, functional, and livable. The TV completely disappears, she is a magical design witch!

I love that she is not staring at her kitchen but has a proper living room area. Brilliant layout.
I hope not. 235 square feet is not a place to aspire to. We can do much better.
Always happy to see a rented space here. With expertise (and money), you can do a lot with an empty canvas that you own, but renting is a different story (and a story that I live in as well 😉)

For 20m² that's really great.
She is a true interior designer, her design vibe is visually so serene and peaceful, yet quite creative and beautiful--what a talent!
true that
So happy to see an American, a rented unit, and uninspiring architecture. Love her choices, love her mindset!
She has to be quite privileged to afford that space; not a typical American.
??? This is an international show?
Who cares where they are from!😂😂😂
thought she said it was the first time she lived without roommates, and she's clearly talented; I don't mind assuming she worked hard for it
@jenl2530 not necessarily. I work in nyc, lived in nyc myself and have friends that live in studios in nyc. I wouldn't call them priviledged in the least.
This really illustrates how proportions can help or hinder a small apartment. My place is technically bigger, but feels smaller and less flexible.
Yep. She stayed with a full size bed and just a side table instead of larger bedroom furniture.
That is a tiny space. You've done a great job with it and your style is light and sophisticated.
Wow!!! That’s amazing! One of the best studios I have ever seen. 21m2 and there is a feeling of spaciousness yet you got all you need for a person livining in apartment. Such a gem!!!

I thought the same thing but then you are looking at the kitchen in bed?
Sometimes (especially if the building isn’t quiet) it can feel creepy lying in bed with the hallway right behind you.
Not much room to manoeuvre in that tight space unless you want the bed by the kitchen.
Brava. Your studio is 21 sq/m, mine is 35. You have the advantage of an even higher “stud” (ceiling height) although mine is a generous 2.5m. Great style. Love what she did with the space. I'm always a bit envious of people that know how to put things together. I could easily live there.
Wow she's good at her job, so subtle but incredibly well done :-)
Gorgeous little apartment
Kudos to her. This studio is beautifully styled. Thanks for sharing it. I liked how she used inexpensive furnishings and paint to create such a chic, modern look.
I love what she’s done with her space, the paint color is a fine choice , too! She has a good eye for what she’s put into her apartment. Great neighborhood by the looks of it!
For once I can relate as I have a very similar floorplan (window: bathroom: wardrobe: entry ratio) . I like that it's real furniture and not all built-in
The wall color is EVERYTHING
I’d love be to see it in person. Computers, cell phones, tv’s don’t show the real colours.more and more people use Fall and Barrow (spelling?) paint.
The most talented American I have ever seen to take a small place and transform it into a piece of art little apt! Girl hope you become huge bc you are huge in your talent and skills ❤ impressive ❤
A little too much flattery to be real…
love the mix of vintage pieces tucked in around the studio. It is a gorgeous space.
I had a studio in Gramercy park directly across the street from her building! Love this neighborhood so much.
@ yea but if u pull them off 1 degree off, it gets dicey lol
Go back and look at the older videos. There are some incredible designs and practical ideas in them.
I live in a larger studio, but it feels less spacious than this one. She has a beautiful eye for design!
What a beautiful space. There's clearly time, thought, and intention behind every item, and yet it doesn't feel overdone. Rather, it's very liveable ❤ I generally go for more saturated colours, but this apartment really speaks to me with it's cool, calm palette.
I really, really, really like this space, colors, items, arrangements. There is not one single thing to which I said " no way" WOW!
I love the wall colour. I actually have this colour in half of my home. You can never get tired of it, because it is soothing, but not depressing, and you can really add a lot of colour through furniture, art and accessories. Great at job!

I love everything about this space!! ❤
Me too! I want to copy-paste it into my house.
I love the color, such a nice place
Noticed that she has Ukrainian neighbours on 2:40 ))
Very cool apartment, it looks much bigger than 21 sq.m! She has a good taste.
Gramercy is pretty close to a neighborhood called "Little Ukraine" with lots of good restaurants.
She did marvellous job with all the limitations (size, the place being a rental). And it is so nice to see a desk that allows for an actually functional setup! Not all of us can make do with a small table and a single laptop.
I could definitely live in a place like this, light yet cozy. My favorite so far.

Really nice apartment and cohesive space

An amazing use of space and great design. She is also so well spoken.
The space doesn't feel small at all. I like that it actually looks lived in and not sterile like some. And also, versatile furniture, thrifts make the difference, add character 👍. Now I'm inspired 😂

She is great at narrating her space!
I love it! The decor is perfect - she has great taste. I love all the vintage touches she has incorporated into the apartment, whilst still keeping the feel of a bright modern space.
I fell in love with her style from the first frames of the video, including her personal style for clothes.
Very thoughtful and clever use of space. It’s a beautiful apartment! Small but perfect 🥰
This woman seems to know what she is doing. Incredible job and great attitude
A Japanese futon would fit this place great instead of a bulky bed. You can store it when awake and prepare it when you go to sleep.
I’m impressed/jealous that she can sleep with the bed closest to the windows/street noise. When I lived in my $1800 a mth NYC studio in 2005 I had my bed as far away from the street as possible
I like the cabinets that are the same color as the wall, looks like a built-in
Very smart the layout, also I love the vibe of the owner, I think that the apartment is very comfortable for living, congratulations 🎉🎉
Despite being such a small space, she has done so much with it! It looks and feels calm and luxurious. The cool tones give it such a relaxing and chill vibe.
Bathroom away from the kitchen 😊😊
The more I think the better it gets.
Skill wins 🏆 👌 👏 😎 😊😊😊😊
Putting any clothing on the bed that has been worn outside is not a good idea. Pollen, dust, dirt, bed bugs, roach eggs, etc. will transfer
A Murphy/Wall bed would give her a large space during the day - though it would reduce storage.
I think she has done a lovely job but I’d miss a dining table and prefer to sit by a window rather than away from window with back to it.
Like the desk, I bought the dining table version off craigslist years ago and use it as a conference table in our office!
Eclectic, yet very clean and organized.
I hope those shelves above her desk doesn't sag in the middle after a long time.
I would personally dump the bed that is the elephant in the room and go Japanese, with a rolled up futon or even a quality sofa bed and loose the other sofa. Then you have some flexible space to walk across and play with - dining table on castors etc?
@thewaythingsare8158
Indeed - I would also ditch the bed, and either have a Murphy bed (thus reducing the space to very little, horizontally), or a daybed (with all the bedding stored in a blanket box).
Genius. This woman is destined for great things. The pathway between bed and sofa is inspired.
I usually think that I could never live in a studio apartment but this one is actually lovely. Compact but stunning.
Wow. The layout is perfect! I am building my own small apartment e it's thanks to these video. The one i am creating is 16,5sqm + 3,5mq balcony
Very ruthless with the colour scheme and it works. Well done.
Restraint wins the day!
She did a good job.....
shes doing soooo well for this space im so impressed! probs my most fav episode I love her studio sm!!
I think painting the Ivars the same as the wall color helps a lot. Pretty place!
Very beautiful interiors. The paint really made a big difference. ♥
Her confidence, little bob, and cardigan are perfection. Oh, and the apartment is great too -- especially the wall color, bed linens, and that desk.
Well done - loved everything about it 😊- perfectly balanced & the color is so soothing!
Beautiful 💕
This is what we in the UK call a 'Bedsit' I had one very similar to this lady in my early 20's, with the little kitchenette, I had a double sofabed instead of a bed, however, we shared a bathroom with 2 others in their bedsits. Just stunning, what a stylish young lady.
It's really quite nice. Light and airy. I like it.
Wow, great job! Trying out 20 paints sure paid off - it is the perfect colour.
That's amazing, you did a terrific job, if flows easily and is light and bright, just what you wanted. 👍
This studio looks like it came straight out of from "Friends" scenography. Beautifully furnished and spacious despite its small size, I think this is due to the choice of low furniture and subdued colors.
Such a great job! Although the shelves feel a little to be busy for me its not overwhelming the space. The layout is excellent!
G Ire 😊
A great exercise in working with what you got! Love this space
Great use of space. She was a pleasure to listen to. Thankfully didn’t say like, like, like every other word.
EXACTLY!! She sounds intelligent.
Her vocal fry is so extreme, frankly speaking, it was really hard for me to listen....
@@essielewis1070Is that all it takes?
@@makanimike ??? vocal fry?
@@makanimike really, eh, irritating.
Seen many designs so far and fell in love with this one.
A beautiful, harmonious collection of vintage pieces.
Super cute & cozy 😊
this is great. cool colors are not my jam but this pale blue has sold me on this cool color. especially for a bed room which is better cool. Well done ! i live small on purpose and usually paint everything bright white but this has inspired me to think out of my box
would definitely invest in a murphy bed with so little space
Perfect home!❤
Charming. Love the wall colour
Thoughtful and strategic. Well done!
This is a beautiful and well designed/organized space. I absolutely love it. I am stealing the shelfing idea above the computer. I don't keep much but that is just an awesome idea for housing my diplomas.
Beautifully decorated.🙏😊
It’s beautiful. You’ve done a great job.
what a beautiful space you created!!!!
Excellent job!!! Just a beautiful and relaxing space ❤
