    I have two Rockshox entry level air forks. Those "discoloration" you mentioned was because of the shock oil residue. (Dark is wet) after a ride, wipe the stanchions with isopropyl alcohol, and the discoloration will be gone.

    Boostinator conversion kits exist to convert both front and rear non-boost to boosted width. Make sure you also get the boost brake adaptor kit for the rotor as well, so it's spaced out to the right caliper location.
    When changing brakes, take a shifter cable and run it fully inside the hose of your existing brake caliper before you pull the caliper out the port. The cable will fish through - then just simply fish the new brake through using the cable.
    The Recon rebound lever thing can sometimes fall off, and the damper goes wonky after a couple months hard riding. But a great budget fork nonetheless.

    Such a rad bike, had my eye on it when availability was non existent so I bought my friends Giant. I like what you said about mtb not having to be risking your life every ride. My favorite ride is flat and shady but I still love to shred a bike park. Which we will do together at Snow Summit one day, or skypark.

      Nice to see you guys amongst the community. I bought the 2021 siskiu d5 as my first full suspension bike. Its now fully upgraded into a torque sensing E-MTB with custom 2x12 32/44t 11-50t cassette drive train that can go any where. I have a slow (960fps) motion suspension travel video and will be doing a long term review and full bang for Buck build video soon. Nice review, and nice to see a review of the bike in the context of "general use" xc trails. I've been eyeballing one of these for next year and similar to you, 90% of my riding is on pretty mellow xc trails. I got a Polygon Premier 4 earlier this year just to kind of get my feet wet and I've overall been impressed with the build quality and value for the price.

    Good review on the D7. One thing that bothers me is the whole qr vs thru-axle debate. Now, I'm sure a thru stiffens the rear, that I will not contest. As well, there should never be an issue with the wheel falling out of the dropouts. However, I have an 18 Roscoe 8 with boost qr. I've ridden it at Snowshoe, Bryce and on numerous local black singletrack without any issues. The only real dilemma I've found is seeking to upgrade wheels. With that said, despite wishing I had a better engagement hub; hence looking at wheel upgrades, the SunRingle Duroc wheels have held up well over the past three years of thrashing. Sure they're dinged and will never be run tubeless again; but hey, I'm still getting smiles for miles out of them! So, my thought is if someone is interested in a particular rig and find it has a qr rear, that shouldn't necessarily turn them away. Obviously, I am in no way trying to hold on to the qr standard, but for the foreseeable future some bikes will still have them. And I believe if a person really likes that bike and they are knowledgeable as to what they are getting into then I say go for it. However, if the option to get a rig with thru exists, then by all means they should go ahead and pick that one up. As it will make certain things easier down the road.

    • @EvansMTBSaga
      @EvansMTBSaga  2 роки тому

      Good comment! I haven't had a QR come loose on a ride and if someone is real worried, they can change the skewer to a bolt on. Definitely not the end of the world like you mentioned. Thanks man!!

    It seems that your looking at the "actual seat tube angle" instead of the "effective seat tube angle" when comparing the seat angles. The effective angle is much more useful than the actual because effective is measured from the center of the bottom bracket to the middle of the seat, meaning the effective angle is what actually determines how steep the seat angle feels when your pedaling.

I guess there is a quicker way to replace the cables/hoses if they are already on the outside....

    There's no question that this is a sick bike for the price, but IMO its hard to call it a "downcountry" bike rather than "short travel trail bike". The reason is the weight. Downcountry really implies cross-country level efficiency and speed in rolling terrain, mildly techy climbs, and long days out, while achieving a good level of downhill capability. That being said, I know everyone else is calling it downcountry too.

    Down Country bikes were first made from Cross Country race bikes that weigh in around 21 pounds, 120mm forks were added, along with wider rims, bigger lightweight XC tries, and wider handlebars, the bikes were still well under 25 pounds, a bike like you just took out of the box came in our shop the other day, it was a least 10 pounds heavier, thats a trail bike, not even close to a Down Country Bike. XC race tracks have now become more challenging, the bike are now beefier with 120/110 or 120/120, with wider rims/tires, slacker geometry, weighing in around 20/22 pounds, they are Down Country bikes. Take a look at Nino Schurters Spark..

    Hey Evan, I don't know if u remember me. I coincidentally bought your koozer front hub from u on eBay and received one of ur first stickers on the channel ever made. That hub has now made its way across many project builds landing on my siskiu d5 fully upgraded to E-MTB. What a coincidence and small world, lol. Do you know if they have they made any changes to how far the seat post can go down into the seat tube for 2022? I love my 2021 model but the 1 criticism I have with the bikes is more a fit issue. I'm a smaller rider(~29 inseam) riding the small I wasn't able to get seat post past the pivot on the seat tube. Keep the quality videos coming brother

    Why are so many yutube reviewrs talking about replacing the shimano mt200 or mt401 brakes that have 160mm rotors on the rear. Here's a pro tip for you all, dont replace the brake set, replace the rotors to 180mm or bigger, and use pads other than resin only, braking will improve dramatically, I promise you.

    Polygon makes killer bikes for the money. Amazing the current price of this bike at $1499! The D7 is a great value and the price of the bike has actually gone DOWN over the last couple of years! Minimal cost upgrades of going tubeless, changing out the pedals and grips, larger disc rotors, and the rider is ready to rock for many miles!

Front wheel can use boost adapter so need need to purchase new wheel and boost spacing for front really is geared for enduro and beyond. I never noticed running boost up front from standard spacing. Unless on my DH bike. But that Recon is a solid fork regardless. And I believe it comes with internal spacers that you could take out to increase travel to 130-140mm. Super easy to do.
