This is good. I've been that punching bag, blocking on one spot. It sounds like common sense to block while moving. Funny it takes someone to explain it at length to realize how easy of target I have been.
    Thanks.

Thank you so much for this video, JT! The best thing about this approach is it gives you the time and space to analyze your opponent's patterns. You'll learn his timing, and he is less expecting your counters. It gives him false confidence when you are catching 10 of his punches, constantly walking with those. Then you strike. Like a sea snake. Great technique!

Hey J.T. Another perfect example of this style of defensive boxing is from a boxer named Glen Johnson who was responsible in knocking out Roy Jones Jr. He used the Peekaboo style to walk Jones down into a corner to measure him up and catch him.

This could not be any more applicable and useful to me right now. I'm 41 and after training for the last 4 months I just started sparring the last couple of weeks. I'm loving it, but at the end of every round I'm totally spent and can't wait to spit the gum shield out, cos Ive been trying to dance around like Leonard (unsuccessfully) in the No Mas fight in an attempt (unsuccessfully) to not get hit. Sparring is triple hard compared to bag work, and this is extremely useful for an old geezer like me, so like so much of your other advice I'm taking this and working on it. Cheers !

Thank you sooooooo Very Much for this one. Its as if you were speaking directly to me (maybe you were!)! Really needed this, you are helping me to refine my technique and realizations both my mistakes and why I'm unconsciously doing the things I'm doing. Today is my Boxing day I'm gonna drill this consistently. Is there any otherway to work this maybe with heavy bag or speedbag. Its harder because you have to work the footwork too, but I'm thinking catch block in rhythm with the speed back or bean bag. My mind is on fire. Getting antsy to try it in the ring too (but got to develope this first!).
    Thank you again!

A person can move and jab off the same hand multiple times, which is pretty common, but at least it's only coming from one angle. That's my comment to the remark made about an aggressor alternating punches while moving.

Great video. I have a unrelated question though. I'm 22 years old and I have never taken any boxing lessons from anyone other then my dad and he doesn't know much. I want to choose a local boxing school. What do you think I should look for in a boxing gym that will tell me that it is a good gym? And how much is a fair price? Would love a response thanks. Shout outs from Salem Oregon.

i think even the welterweight version of pacquiao use this kind of tactics in some fights to rest sometimes, catch some air and continue with the pounding. this can be drilled with the pads? i try with my brother charge a little bit the counters with them, so we are aware of throw and receive the blows

Jason , , I block or slip the jab or even sometimes get tagged with it , I wait to see if the guy throws the right , then I bob when the right comes and step inside . I find guys will then begin to step backwards as he goes I step with him . waiting to see if I can throw a left hook , followed by a right as he steps back ... ? seems to work for me . what do you think .

    • @PrecisionBoxing

Emmett Dolan yeah, that's smart. Mayweather does that a lot, moves back and then bobs back into his opponent to close the distance and make it tight.

The more you make yourself hurt in training by pushing yourself to your limits and more, the uglier your competitive attitude becomes. Like a dog suffering in a kennel just dying to get out and bite! Dont hold back, think to kill.

The Wolverine we had a guy like that at my gym, lots of talent but lost a lot of fights, he always thought of himself as a 'counterpuncher', but if you look at the best counterpunchers, Floyd for example, they actually initiate the attacks more often. I would say to start to look at pressure fighters, Hatton, Tyson, Juan Diaz, GGG and start to emulate their style and mindset more in training. And ofcourse as mentioned, you have to push yourself in training like a suffering dog. seriously.
