    In case anybody doesn't know how Catastor interacts with Grand Mole, Catastor is forced to activate first because it is a mandatory effect, while Grand Mole is optional, becoming chain link 2. Grand Mole, being chain link 2, resolves first, bouncing both monsters, causing Catastor to fizzle because Grand Mole changes zones and Catastor no longer has a monster to affect

    Please note that *shuffling to the deck* and *returning to hand* does the same thing for Extra Deck monsters.

      Was going to note this, in case people are super new, because extra deck cards cannot exist in the hand or main deck if they are bounced or spun (put back into deck) they will return to extra deck. Compulse was an iffy form of removal back in goat format but as soon as synchros came out and fusions became more playable, it vecame a much better card.

    Another honorable mention I want to bring up is being sent to the spell and trap zone since it’s one of the weirdest forms of removal in the game. A lot of effects like mirrorjade’s nuke effect don’t trigger since the card technically never leaves the field, and it essentially turns your opponent’s monsters into a spell and trap zone lock. So things like equipping a monster to another monster like relinquish or tainted treasure snake eye would count as this type of removal.

    You missed a few like being tributed and being tributed as cost, being sent to the grave as cost, attached to an xyz monster, being used as fusion material, being used as synchro material, being used for a ritual summon, getting used as link material for a link summon, being equipped to a monster, becoming a continuous spell, getting destroyed and banished, having the summon get negated and destroyed, all the your opponent does the removal effects, being destroyed by battle, and i think that is about it i might have missed a few very niche removal effects.
    Also Primal Seed and Necro Face can recover face down banished cards.

  • @extrashoddy

    Oh boy, I get to be pedantic!
    Banishing face-down is a mechanic that's become more popular in recent card design, which means it leads to a lot of headaches (see any video about Kashtira rulings). This mechanic actually debuted back in the mid-2000s set Pharaonic Guardian with Different Dimension Capsule (which kept it face down to make sure it was a secret to your opponent.) Cards that are banished face-down have _"no identity"_ which means that *the game still treats them as a card, but one without any text* (no information to treat it as a monster, spell, or trap, or having any effects). This means that stuff that interacts with banished monsters, spells, or traps can't do anything with them, but something that interacts with _"banished cards"_ can interact with them, such as Psy-Framelord Omega or Primal Seed. The weird thing is that some cards can end up banished face-down temporarily, such as targeting a face-down monster with Farfa, who will *banish it face-down, but return it in the same position after a set amount of time.*
    Another thing you sort've missed is _sending back to the top of the deck _(also known as getting Raiza'ed). This behaves the same as sending back to the deck and shuffling (also known as spinning) but also *forces your opponent to draw that card again, denying them their next draw.* I've been hit by this three times in a row, by my opponent hitting me with 3 Raizas on 3 consecutive turns.
    It's not fun.
    Edit: fixed some grammar and emphasized a few points.

  • @Ev1lLion
    @Ev1lLion Рік тому +1

    In Duel Links specifically, there is a skill called "mind of the plana", that sends all the opponent's banished cards back to the binder.

  • @AnhTuanNguyen-jf8ld
    @AnhTuanNguyen-jf8ld Рік тому

    Bouncing or shuffling back (sometimes called 'Spinning') Extra Deck monsters used to trigger 'leave the field' effects like Absolute Zero, which is one of the few instances a card that isn't public knowledge (anymore) could activate its effect. The caveat is that cards that were spun back into the Main Deck were exempt from that rule and didn't activate.
    Then the infamous Master Rule April 1st 2020 Revisions happened. It specified that face-down cards, unless referenced by text (like Amaterasu I presume), could not use effects, which included Extra Deck monsters . That actually broke some cards that had specifically made use of that quirk like Mind Meld, which after that stopped triggering the Link Krawlers.

  • @resir9807
    @resir9807 Рік тому +2

    What confused me as a new player was whether flipping monsters face down negated their effects or not.
    So for anyone new: flipping face down does NOT negate. There's a difference between activating and resolving an effect, which is necessary to understand and I'll quickly explain.
    Effect Activation is when you press a button, and the card you activated appears as part of a chain. Now if multiple effects activate in response to each other, that builds a chain. When the chain is done, it resolves backwards, meaning the effect that was activated last resolves first. That's Effect Resolution, and each time it happens, the card in the chain disappears.
    Now, flipped down monsters can't activate their effects, because there's no button. But if your monster activates its effect, and your opponent responds by flipping it face down - it's already part of the chain, and that effect will resolve.

    • @extrashoddy
      @extrashoddy Рік тому

      The worst part about your first point is that there were a set of cards whose effects you could _"negate"_ by flipping them face down. Cards like Zombie Master and Horus LV8 were eventually _errata'ed_ (changing card text to clarify or even modify how the card functioned) to specify that they *had to be face up to activate and resolve their effects.* Cards that would remove them from the field or make them _unknown_ before their effect resolved (i.e. trap hole for the former and book of moon for the latter) would cause the effects to _"Fizzle"_ or be *unable to resolve, even if they weren't negated.*

    More Advanced Removing Methods:
    *Xyz cards like Cyber Dragon Infinity can attach your opponent's cards to themselves as material to remove them, or as players would like to call it, sucking your opponent's cards.
    *You can tribute your opponent's cards for cost to summon your own monsters; like Kaiju monsters, Lava Golem, Soul Exchange or Monarchs Stormforth.
    *You can use your opponent's card as material to summon your own monsters from the Extra Deck; Underworld Goddess of the Closed World or Unchained Soul of Anguish for example.
    *Some card can tribute your opponent's cards for effect or cost; like Lair of Darkness or Teardrop the Rikka Queen.
    *You can force your opponent to perform an action to get rid of them, with cards like Evenly Matched or Share the Pain. These cards effects bypass almost any protection since techically you're not the one who's interacting with your opponent's cards.
    *Cards like Crackdown, Mind Control or Change of Heart should also count since you're removing them from your opponent's field.
    (I don't know how many of these are available in Duel Links but I wanted to write them since video talks about Yu-Gi-Oh! generally)
